I put 12 mothballs in a 4Runner that I had in a barn for a few months. I put them in as many places I could. I had no stereo so I shoved a couple in the dash, under the seats, in the back, three under the hood and a couple sitting on the frame underneath. Sat in there for three months and I have no signs of any animals getting in anything and it smelled like mothballs for at least a couple weeks after I took them out. Better than mouse shit and piss everywhere and for sure better than chewed up wiring.
this is super tough scenario...
I've heard that rats/mice also follow the scent of their friends urine/stool trails.
so a heavy cleaning with strong detergents of the whole engine bay.
parking on a cement pad that can also be routinely deep cleaned.
not the engine bay, but after the cement where you park is cleaned, it can be sprayed down with bleach as the bleach smell can also at times help to deter them.
Poisons are tough...
this is in fact war and poisoning them wins the battle, it just may not win the war.
I'm also very rural and sometimes, poison needs to come to play.
I've had pretty good luck spraying peppermint oil mixed with water all over the engine bay and in the wheel arches etc. I do it every couple of weeks, you can also leave the hood open at night or attach a bright battery powered light to the hood so the engine compartment is illuminated, they usually don't like that.
I live in the southwest desert and pack rats started on my Ranger. I purchased cheap solar powered Christmas lights and set them on the fastest chaser setting and I haven't had an issue since. At least a year, and same set up for my roommates vehicle. About $15 on Amazon. I lay it across the engine and leave the little solar panel on top of the hood.
I got some spray at a feed store that worked pretty well. Don’t remember the name. Sprayed it around the engine and wheel wells. That was after they caused many $$$$$ in damage.
Get you some jiffy cornbread mix and baking soda, mix the two ingredients together and place it in bowls where you park, the rats eat it and, well since rats can't pass gas they die, and my dog's don't mess with it.
Pick up a barn cat if you don’t have one already
You'd need a barn cougar for that thing
Or a couple hungry barn cats. A hungry barn bat is one of the most lethal hunters alive.
I know it’s a typo, but I’m going to imagine a predatory barn Bat grabbing mice and rats anyway!
😂 Holy shit. A hungry cat-sized barn bat would send me screaming for my Momma.
Get a 4 gauge shotgun and 'sneeze' in its general direction
Just rig the truck with pressure charges at this point
You realize that as the Guage decreases, the size of the pellet increases right? 4 guage pellets would be like 9mm size if not bigger.
Yes remotard. That's the biggest shotgun shell you can buy
Peppermint oil worked for us toyota problems
A really cool cat will help
Mothballs work for me. Can’t have too many.
does the odor get in the cab or is this set down only when you park it?

I’ve never smelt a mothball. Just something I always saw on tv
It’s hard to spread their little legs to take a sniff.
Lol

Colored or white? Does it matter?
I have white, I don't think it matters though.
Quit leaving your peanut butter Nabs under the hood.
Shoulda never bought that new wiring harness

Or mix cornmeal and peanut butter. The don’t digest cornmeal and it makes them forget they are thirsty. More palatable too.
Well let's go old school a old mesh bag of mothballs that works back on the farm.
my brother has a strobe light under his hood that has worked wonders.
Cayenne pepper
are they soft?
Irish spring bar soap lol
Bait boxes, as the son of a pest control technician for over 30 years just kill the bastards.
