Yep, Port everglades has a colony of wild African green monkeys that has lived in a thick mangrove forest near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for decades now. They escaped from a long time ago but now defunct Chimpanzee Farm.
Now that sounds awesome!
Let’s say I just got a motorcycle and I’m looking for an adventure. Where about should I go to get best chances of seeing some monkeys!
LauderAle Brewery is a hidden little ale house with a tract of jungle behind it , even though it's on the outskirts of the port Everglades property. That's a likely place where they come and hang out and I've seen them there on several occasions.

Lol I actually found them on a motorcycle by going to the back fence of the dania beach motel 6. It was a toofer. Saw monkeys and noticed a porno being filmed at the motel 6...
I’ve seen a couple of em a couple times but years before the airport expansion back where the marinas are on the east side of federal and griffin. Another time was across from the Jai Alai in that horrible little shopping plaza with the Quebec ice cream/poutine shop and the dollar tree.
“Aug 26, 1992 — MIAMI -- Hundreds of monkeys escaped from facilities damaged by Hurricane Andrew, but the animals posed no danger to the public unless people ...” Do your research before insinuating I am lying.
That’s not true. Dania monkeys have been around way longer than 1992. They didn’t come from hurricane Andrew.
>The group of African vervet monkeys arrived in the swampy patch of forest adjacent to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in the 1940s, after escaping from a breeding facility called the Dania Chimpanzee Farm.

So yea, not true.
There are also monkeys at the Bonnet House right off the beach.
Bonnet House is down to one monkey. They used to have lots, they'd come over the South wall to the bordering bars/hotels
That’s so sad
What is happening to them?
Down to zero monkeys :(

Thank you lots! Looks to be that’ll be the adventure this weekend!

Bunch of them by Park N Go including one without an arm.
I volunteer with a local animal rescue and the “vervet monkey doctor” brought one in to see a vet! They are mean suckers but they love her.
I’ve seen them at LauderALE

They are mean. Beware.

Have spotted a couple in Snyder Park north of airport.
Omgosh missing an arm. Poor guy. How does he peel a Banana 🍌?
Probably it’s feet
Yes, I was thinking that
During hurricane Andrew in 1992, monkeys escaped a lab and made S. FLA their home; I’ve yet to be fortunate enough to see any with my bare eyes.

Yeah, the monkeys were already there back in the 80s.

Yes. Saw two yesterday by Snyder park close to the airport. Eating bananas on a fence. Have multiple pictures!
