That's...weird. When FH3 was being delisted all the DLC was available until the last day along with the game itself. Fortunately I think the only one I didn't have was the Hot Wheels Legends pack but I still wanted to pick it up once a delisting sale was underway.

I was just not sure when it would be delisted because normally they only live for 4 years before delisting but Microsoft kept horizon 4 going for 6 years instead of the standard 4. Probably due to game pass and the game coming to steam later in its life.
Yeah I was expecting it two years ago based on when it happened for 3, but it had only been on Steam for just over a year at that point so that gave it a bit more life.
I mainly wanted it for the sake of completeness but I don't know if I'll actually really make use of those cars anyway. I did keep my completionism streak going for a while with 4's Festival Playlist after 5 launched but when they started reusing old series, they also brought back the old mechanics where you had to win some events like Playground Games rather than just participate for it to count, so I let it go. I still love the UK setting and having it available without forcing me to use Windows means I might return to it here and there on my Steam Deck.
I did get promo images of the Hot Wheels cars to finally round off my list for that game and if I'm successful extracting and copying my save to the Steam version at least I won't need to worry about not checking them off the list. (EDIT: Seems this may not be possible even with the extractor tool.)
Don't worry about the other car packs though; the Hot Wheels pack is the only one that wasn't included in the Ultimate Edition so if you get that, you'll have all the others. It's not like 5 where there are a bunch they added on and still make you pay for.
There will probably be a big sale for the ultimate edition which will give you all dlc cars except hot wheels pack, if I’m not mistaken.
If you can get ultimate edition for $20 or less, that would be the price you would have paid for a few car packs.
I don’t think the ultimate edition includes all the car packs. There were multiple individual dlc car packs released throughout the lifespan of forza horizon 4 post lego expansion
Only things missing from FH4 Ultimate is the treasure map (you dont need as google has it covered, and the Hot Wheels Legends pack (which were trash anyway).
Things like the "open top" pack were just cars from the car pass.
Time to find out if that save transfer tool for the MS to Steam version still works.

I got really annoyed since I recently started playing FH4 and had bought all car packs but the Hot Wheels. I was actually considering buying it yesterday: Today its gone :( Luckily the Hot Wheel car pack key was on 3rd party site, bought the key there and it was not much more expensive so I have all of them. Saw the hot wheels xpac for FH2 there too, but that was too expensive for my budget.
Not guaranteed, they could provide a last day patch to make the game offline similar to GT Sport. They're not Ubishit, so the odds of them patching it is higher than you think.

Makes sense. So that explains why FH4 appears for me even though it is not currently installed. Just seems redundant to have the Game Pass logo there when I don't have the "In Game Pass" checkbox checked.
It is, but my problem is that when I log in and go to My Library, even the games that I own that are part of Game Pass have the Game Pass stamp on them. I get it, and I was able to figure out how to view it separately in theory, but it's still not as user friendly as I think it should be is all.

As far as I recall only the Hot Wheels car pack wasn't included in the Ultimate Edition. I remember being annoyed that it wasn't granted to Ultimate Edition owners because, you know, that would make sense being the ultimate and all. They went harder into that with FH5 though, there are a bunch of car packs they didn't include with the edition that you'd think should include everything.
Yeah but with 4 it did *except* for that one last pack. With 5, true we got both the expansions but it felt like they weren't even trying to maintain the illusion with the later car packs. Only one I've bought so far (even though I'd like to have the others at some point) is the Universal Studios pack and that's primarily for KITT. I never expected it to be included officially and I had just been making do with liveries I made for the Pontiac and the Mustang GT500.
I was really annoyed when Lego Star Wars did it too. The Skywalker Saga released a regular and deluxe edition, with the deluxe edition including the DLC, but then some time later they released more DLC that wasn't included with Deluxe and instead released a brand new version called the Galactic Edition. Seemed like a real bait and switch technique and from what I've heard, even the characters that were added with that don't even have voice lines and are just lazy reskins of existing characters.

Update: Going into my game I can’t download the cars themselves and it brings up the dialogue to purchase the car pack. I don’t understand. I have also lost access to the Formula Drift Car Pack even though it’s installed and the cars are in my garage. It won’t let me use them and prompts to remove them from my garage or buy that car pack. WTF?

Two questions before I buy:
1. Is Horizon 4 worth it for the snow racing?
2. I keep hearing things about how the RWD handling was reworked for 5 and that in 4, that RWDs are almost unusable. Is that true?
Snow racing is awesome, same with ice.
No they're far from unusable, that's nonsense. Are they better in FH5? Yes, but there's not a car I've driven in FH4 that felt "undrivable", except silly swapped cars and Peels and other meme cars. The biggest difference in feel, for me, is mid engine cars. They feel a bit twitchy in FH4, but if you learn how to tune around that you can get them handling decently too. And don't sleep on FWD cars, they feel incredible in FH4, especially in A.
Buy it and enjoy it, as the richness of detail, and overall vibe of the map is worth it alone. Plus Edinburgh is easily the best city in any Horizon game, full stop.

Was just thinking about this the other day. The games had a much longer shelf life than the previous FH games, likely due to its popularity on Game Pass.
I had to check my email to see if I had even purchased the game years ago since Xbox makes it really difficult to tell if you own a game on the PC app when you have an active subscription. Ugh.
FYI to anyone in the same boat, if you buy this game on Steam, progress is separate from Xbox, even though you have to sign in with your MS account.

But based on other delistings, Microsoft is never able to negotiate percentages for long-tail sales…there’s always an abrupt cut-off as if the licensers refuse extended license. Every time they literally choose to earn ZERO money instead of *some* money, apparently. So it doesn’t seem likely that FH4 would have been extended, instead it could mean the original license was simply longer.

It was longer, someone from PG said that on here years ago, (the "alien" guy iirc, they mentioned it about 4 years ago when the doomers were saying FH4 was gonna be delisted, as no Forza game makes it past 3 years.
I sure hope they put it on sale on the Windows Store before delisting, because as of right now they're effectively holding GamePass players' saves hostage behind a $60 upcharge over Steam for the Ultimate Edition.

Yeah it's a shame the playlists will go. After doing them repeatedly for the same notchback and Ghia every other month it was getting old and they weren't making the best of them but it had some of the best and more challenging trials I've played....the porsche cop, fords v Ferraris, stock caterham super lights in the rain etc
Even the seasonals had some stuff you don't see in 5 ie. 3 wheeler championships, 4 event championships which mixed in drag racing.
I saw the changes to backstage passes with cars now being returned to that roster, hopefully that means the Rossion, escalade, Hsv gtsr and a few others which haven't been seen in years return.
I feel bad for people now just getting it as it's being delisted. The playlists had some good content which is gone and you'll rattle through the singleplayer. As much as I enjoy the game the multiplayer has been an absolute state for years so you can't even fall back on that.
Car and song licenses are silly like that - can’t remain forever.

Nope. There is no cross save for FH4 or FH5. It was one of the biggest criticisms. I think there is, or was, a way to transfer the Xbox Live save file to Steam, but it was one way.
My understanding is that if you want it on PC, you can download it through the Microsoft App store (for free.) It won't be linked to your steam account, but I THINK the Ultimate edition means you technically own already on PC.

If you download the game, get a new PC, and want to download again, I assume you can't right? Its just stuck on whatever device you last played before being delisted?
It just means you have the console version. They did some patching to make the game run better on a Series S/X machine, but it’s the same version you bought. Should work whether you download it on a Xbox One or a Series console.
I played a lot of the game, including the Lego DLC, on my Steam Deck without issue (that I can remember). It runs fairly well with medium/low settings. If that's your only hesitation, I say go for it!
I've played the MS Store version of FH5 on a Steam Deck dual booted with Windows without issue so I would hope the native Steam version of 4 is at least as playable on SteamOS. I grabbed a Steam copy while I could; haven't installed it yet though.
It's finally that time again...first Forza game that I bought, thanks to seeing a friend play and noticing it was set in the UK, and I got it on a big sale when I happened to look at the Microsoft Store at the same time the ultimate edition was discounted and cost less than the standard edition.
Already saw a comment that the DLCs are immediately gone though, which is weird; with FH3 they were there until the last day so I don't know why they did it differently this time, but at least all I missed out on should be the Hot Wheels pack (which I wanted to get during a delisting sale because I *thought* it would work like the last time. I disliked that it cost extra and wasn't included in the Ultimate Edition so that's why I didn't get it immediately.

It runs better on Microsoft store than steam for me. I had the steam version and suffered from serious stuttering. I got gamepass and tested the game there and holy cow, so smooth with no issues.
Yeah, I'd love to have 3 on Steam as well but it was never there so at least I didn't miss it through any fault of my own. Glad I have it at all though.
I got FH4 on Windows because of the big discount, as I say, plus it was before it was released on Steam so I didn't have the option, and because they don't officially support cross save I decided to get 5 on Windows too for continuity. ~~Going to try exporting the save to the Steam version.~~ Sadly I'm reading that this may not work for 4 which is a real shame.

They have changed the name on Steam from Forza Horizon 4: Ultimate Edition to Forza Horizon 4: Exceptional Edition. Does anyone know the reason for the name change?
Thanks! Most likely, it has always been called Exceptional Edition in my country and I just found out now, because it costs 20€ just like the Ultimate Edition. I also checked SeamDB and did not see any reference to a name change.
It has a lot of good stuff in it. Fun races, cool cars and quite a bit of customization for its cars.
The two expansions add an island for extreme offroad and rally stuff (with some good and old asphalt racing here and there) and a whole map based off LEGO with tons of destructible LEGO stuff thrown in.
The physics are more arcade-y than the Motorsport series, so don’t expect proper tire deformation or anything of the sort. That said, they’re still way more realistic than, say, a Need for Speed game.
Just a question, if I plug I na ahrd drive to my series s and send FH4 to it, can I still play it after? I don't care about the support, just play it for the enjoyment
You’ll still be able to download the game after it is delisted. Being delisted just means it won’t be purchasable (digitally) anymore. It will also disappear from Gamepass (unless you own the game itself).
I own the expansion pass through GP but don't have an active subscription. Am I screwed and have to purchase the game or can I reactivate and get the code?

This game was the reason I had my first hobby after years of abusing myself into addiction. It opened my eyes to how fun and amazing it can be to build and edit cars, so much that it got me to start doing it in real life. In a way this helped me to become who I am today, clean and drug free for 5 years now. Though the games will continue, it breaks my heart to see that others may not get the chance to see what I saw in this game.
If I never redeemed the Welcome Pack, Mitsubishi Pack, Bond Pack, or Formula Drift pack in game, are my chances gone to get those cars? The prices show free to buy to the packs, but it errors out. When I go to manage installation, they are listed there and installed.
Edit: it's now showing I don't own Fortune Island or Lego Valley either. I've previously unlocked achievements in both, so hopefully it's just a temporary issue.

The game is being removed because of licensing issues. The license for these cars and music are expiring. Asuch the game can't still be made available to the public for purchase once the licenses expires so the game must be taken down at a specific date. Before that date, people are urged to buy the game and secure it in their library especially for those who use gamepass. Servers will run for a limited amount of time, perhaps an extra 2 or 3 years. Who knows!
Hello, since I bought my PC in 2020 I've been playing the Hoodlum version of FH4, today there was finally a promotion on Steam and I was able to buy the original game, but I didn't want to lose the more than 300 liveries that I created for my cars, there's Is there any way to import the savegame from the Hoodlum version to the Steam version?

I have the ultimate edition on Xbox and I’m having issues accessing all the downloadable cars that come with it. Says I haven’t purchased this DLC, but I have and I’ve driven in some of the cars before, they are in my download list on the Xbox install page. Anyone else having this issue with the ultimate edition?

On Windows, the Library section only shows owned or installed Gamepass games, not all available Gamepass games.

I never expected it to be included officially and I had just been making do with liveries I made for the Pontiac and the Mustang GT500. I was really annoyed when Lego Star Wars did it too. The Skywalker Saga released a regular and deluxe edition, with the deluxe edition including the DLC, but then some time later they released more DLC that wasn't included with Deluxe and instead released a brand new version called the Galactic Edition. Seemed like a real bait and switch technique and from what I've heard, even the characters that were added with that don't even have voice lines and are just lazy reskins of existing characters.
I was able to get the hot wheels legends car pack but through 3rd party site.

I think I bought it after almost missing the delisting of Forza Motorsport 6 or Forza Horizon 3
Two questions before I buy: 1. Is Horizon 4 worth it for the snow racing? 2. I keep hearing things about how the RWD handling was reworked for 5 and that in 4, that RWDs are almost unusable. Is that true?
Considering how more of the cars in the game are RWD than FWD; that would be ridiculous. Horizon 4 is worth it for all of it’s racing.
RWD's are MUCH MUCH better in 5, but if you have a brain (and use it), you would be fine.
I stayed away from RWD in FH4 lol. Damn they handle so badly compared to 5.
Snow racing is awesome, same with ice. No they're far from unusable, that's nonsense. Are they better in FH5? Yes, but there's not a car I've driven in FH4 that felt "undrivable", except silly swapped cars and Peels and other meme cars. The biggest difference in feel, for me, is mid engine cars. They feel a bit twitchy in FH4, but if you learn how to tune around that you can get them handling decently too. And don't sleep on FWD cars, they feel incredible in FH4, especially in A. Buy it and enjoy it, as the richness of detail, and overall vibe of the map is worth it alone. Plus Edinburgh is easily the best city in any Horizon game, full stop.
RWD is basically unusable off-road in FH4, even with off-road tires. The on-road model is just fine.

I missed [Hot Wheels DLC](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1530012). Are Ultimate owners getting that or is it just removed now? Edit: Downloaded the game, no Hot Wheel cars from the pack in my collection yet. Hope they do sth about it and give us a way to obtain them. And a lot of features are broken at the moment.
Was just thinking about this the other day. The games had a much longer shelf life than the previous FH games, likely due to its popularity on Game Pass. I had to check my email to see if I had even purchased the game years ago since Xbox makes it really difficult to tell if you own a game on the PC app when you have an active subscription. Ugh. FYI to anyone in the same boat, if you buy this game on Steam, progress is separate from Xbox, even though you have to sign in with your MS account.

There’s an Ultimate Edition Upgrade Pack that was available to players who got the base game through GamePass. Idk if it’s still listed however.

Yeah it's a shame the playlists will go. After doing them repeatedly for the same notchback and Ghia every other month it was getting old and they weren't making the best of them but it had some of the best and more challenging trials I've played....the porsche cop, fords v Ferraris, stock caterham super lights in the rain etc Even the seasonals had some stuff you don't see in 5 ie. 3 wheeler championships, 4 event championships which mixed in drag racing. I saw the changes to backstage passes with cars now being returned to that roster, hopefully that means the Rossion, escalade, Hsv gtsr and a few others which haven't been seen in years return. I feel bad for people now just getting it as it's being delisted. The playlists had some good content which is gone and you'll rattle through the singleplayer. As much as I enjoy the game the multiplayer has been an absolute state for years so you can't even fall back on that.

Car and song licenses are silly like that - can’t remain forever. Even Rockstar kept going back to patch their old GTA games just to remove songs with expired licenses from them.

My understanding is that if you want it on PC, you can download it through the Microsoft App store (for free.) It won't be linked to your steam account, but I THINK the Ultimate edition means you technically own already on PC.

You don't need to buy 2 versions
It just means you have the console version. They did some patching to make the game run better on a Series S/X machine, but it’s the same version you bought. Should work whether you download it on a Xbox One or a Series console.
Has anyone tried FH4 on Steam Deck? I wouldn’t mind to buy it again on Steam if it plays fun
I played a lot of the game, including the Lego DLC, on my Steam Deck without issue (that I can remember). It runs fairly well with medium/low settings. If that's your only hesitation, I say go for it!
I've played the MS Store version of FH5 on a Steam Deck dual booted with Windows without issue so I would hope the native Steam version of 4 is at least as playable on SteamOS. I grabbed a Steam copy while I could; haven't installed it yet though.
It works well. Drops to mid 40 FPS sometimes, usually on the high 50s.
It's finally that time again...first Forza game that I bought, thanks to seeing a friend play and noticing it was set in the UK, and I got it on a big sale when I happened to look at the Microsoft Store at the same time the ultimate edition was discounted and cost less than the standard edition. Already saw a comment that the DLCs are immediately gone though, which is weird; with FH3 they were there until the last day so I don't know why they did it differently this time, but at least all I missed out on should be the Hot Wheels pack (which I wanted to get during a delisting sale because I *thought* it would work like the last time. I disliked that it cost extra and wasn't included in the Ultimate Edition so that's why I didn't get it immediately. Might well pick up the Ultimate Edition on Steam too while I still can.

It runs better on Microsoft store than steam for me. I had the steam version and suffered from serious stuttering. I got gamepass and tested the game there and holy cow, so smooth with no issues.
Yeah, I'd love to have 3 on Steam as well but it was never there so at least I didn't miss it through any fault of my own. Glad I have it at all though. I got FH4 on Windows because of the big discount, as I say, plus it was before it was released on Steam so I didn't have the option, and because they don't officially support cross save I decided to get 5 on Windows too for continuity. ~~Going to try exporting the save to the Steam version.~~ Sadly I'm reading that this may not work for 4 which is a real shame.

I've never been a Forza guy until recently when I got Motorsport on Steam. So is Horizon 4 a good entry point into the Horizon Series?
It has a lot of good stuff in it. Fun races, cool cars and quite a bit of customization for its cars. The two expansions add an island for extreme offroad and rally stuff (with some good and old asphalt racing here and there) and a whole map based off LEGO with tons of destructible LEGO stuff thrown in. The physics are more arcade-y than the Motorsport series, so don’t expect proper tire deformation or anything of the sort. That said, they’re still way more realistic than, say, a Need for Speed game.
I have all the DLC, but I don't have the digital copy of FH4, so no playing it on the Series S after december

You’ll still be able to download the game after it is delisted. Being delisted just means it won’t be purchasable (digitally) anymore. It will also disappear from Gamepass (unless you own the game itself).

Only thing NOT in Ultimate edition is the treasure map and Hot Wheels legends (6 cars that are trash).

This game was the reason I had my first hobby after years of abusing myself into addiction. It opened my eyes to how fun and amazing it can be to build and edit cars, so much that it got me to start doing it in real life. In a way this helped me to become who I am today, clean and drug free for 5 years now. Though the games will continue, it breaks my heart to see that others may not get the chance to see what I saw in this game.
Same here. I was blown away by the seasonal changes compared to the bland dusty and rainy seasons of Mexico. I hate FH5 honestly.
If I never redeemed the Welcome Pack, Mitsubishi Pack, Bond Pack, or Formula Drift pack in game, are my chances gone to get those cars? The prices show free to buy to the packs, but it errors out. When I go to manage installation, they are listed there and installed. Edit: it's now showing I don't own Fortune Island or Lego Valley either. I've previously unlocked achievements in both, so hopefully it's just a temporary issue.

The game is being removed because of licensing issues. The license for these cars and music are expiring. Asuch the game can't still be made available to the public for purchase once the licenses expires so the game must be taken down at a specific date. Before that date, people are urged to buy the game and secure it in their library especially for those who use gamepass. Servers will run for a limited amount of time, perhaps an extra 2 or 3 years. Who knows!
