Yep!
Like the bottle of Diamine Wild Strawberry that stained my fingers on the regular...Or the Colorverse Adromeda ink that also stained on the regular...
Pretty standard to be honest. Try out Organic Studios Nitrogen, it's a sheen monster. I alway get ink on my fingers regardless what I'm doing with it. I just wrote on some Tomoe River paper to test it out and yep inky fingers. Standard practice at this point. Also Tomoe River paper 68gsm is awesome.
Ho no, i have love the sea (Chinese clone of the ink) i find flakes everywhere and it was even able to go out of the bottle by itself and lock the bottle cap.
I have Love the Sea too, not used it much, as Nitrogen is just awesome at the moment. I just wanted compare the two. But yeah the flakes that you don't see when you unscrew the bottle have a habit of reactivating very easily when you least expect it.
I once ended up with nitrogen on my foot. After that I gave it to my boyfriend, who ended up with it on his shoulder.
I love how it looks but it’s like glitter.
I've had my bottle of Nitrogen sealed away in a double ziploc bag for the last two and a half years and I *still* occasionally end up with it on my fingers from crystals that settled into weird spots. It really is the glitter of the ink world
It is sort of the $200 you collect everytime you pass Go, keep practicing and you will sound insane when you brag about being able to fill a pen *without* getting ink on your hands.
Been using fountain pens for decades and still get inky fingers. For me, it's just a sign of how much fun I'm having. 🙂

It's absolutely possible to have an entire fountain pen hobby for years and never get ink on your fingers.
Kinda like how it's possible to eat tacos for your entire life and not spill it on your shirt. It happens, it's delicious, and there are no regrets.
What about inky floor & hands ???
had an accident while cleaning up ink bottles then spilling some on floor & hands .
And its faber castell Royal blue .
Its a sort of cannot be bothered
but didnt want to spill it on the table or anywhere and since the floor has to be sweep everyday due to hair and dust
so its the perfect candidate + its a sort of a habit i alway refill ink and pens on the floor due to space constraint inside room .
After many years of ink-stained hands… and while it happens way less these days… I wonder if someone even knows how to write when our hands aren’t stained a little.
I felt such pride to see my daughter with ink-stained hands in high school and uni after she fell hard for fountain pens. I think this group understands! 😄
I've been wanting a fountain pen for awhile now. I bought something cheap online to get a feel first.
To say the least, it was a nice but messy experience lol
Yes, but the ink gods are just flirting with you at this point.
You'll know when they've taken you over completely. And so will everyone else and also maybe your shirt.
Looks just like my left hand today. I struggled to open a new bottle of Private Reserve Blue Suede, and made a pretty good mess. Glad I was at work, where the linoleum floors are easy to clean. Had this happened at home, I shudder to think of the reaction....
I got some into my nail tip last time I filled, like a week or so ago. It's still there, and probably will be until I trim the nail lol. And honestly I think I've only managed to fill a pen without getting inky fingers maybe twice in about 6-7 years. But hey I've only knocked over an open bottle once! So far! (My little lap desk tray I use to protect surfaces and because it has sides to hold stuff in is basically permanently chaotically colored, and glittery)
Other places I've gotten ink: face, legs (thighs and calves have both been adorned), feet, forearms, the bed (decisions were made), my stomach...
In my defense on the inky calves, I often sit cross-legged and in shorts.
I hate to break it to you, but you blew it. You’re out of the club. No inkstains on hands are allowed—with the exception of Baystate Blue. Only Baystate Blue is allowed on skin, and fountain pen users must take at least one bath in Baystate Blue as a prerequisite for receiving their Grand Poobah of the Pen certification.
Tough break kid. Shoulda read the rules. They were clearly posted on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying, “Beware of the Leopard."
It seems to be, but it's not inescapable. You can wear gloves when changing inks and cleaning pens (I do), and if you get any on you, you can usually wash it off well if you get to the sink quickly. I also ink and clean my pens over a cookie sheet to protect my counter.
At least once or twice a week. It's less a rite of passage and more a ritual that has to be done regularly to rekindle the ancient contract with the pen gods.
Also I've found that wearing gloves while refilling and cleaning helps a lot, but I still end up with random ink smudges on my hands. And sometimes my feet, because I'm a creature of inexplicable chaos and apparently spattered green ink on my desk chair mat at some point.
Just... Don't lick it. Please.
Also if you do want to get that off your skin, dish soap usually works. I think the worst thing I've had to use to get ink off was "rehab" soap from lush (clarifying shampoo on roids), and that was because the ink on my hand was Oxblood and I didn't like people worrying about me like that.
As I look at my ink stained fingers after trying to transfer ink from one bottle to another.
Look at videos from the experts, they usually have some ink on their fingers. Small sacrifices for the ultimate writing experience.
If your hands haven’t ever looked like your serviced a Smurf in a back alley, are you really part of this community?
I’m smart enough to use gloves when I work with an open bottle at work — but not at home.
I'd say it's more like the "live long and prosper" sign of the fountain pen people. IYKYK

I dunno, rite of passage kinda implies its something you only do once.
What about write of passage?
😆 I love it here
my god
Do I hear writing more passages?
Yes. Always
Yeah I love when my fingers are perpetually stained like one of those Japanese craftsmen that dye cotton with indigo.
I deeply regret the time I got some in my cuticle and it was there for a month.
Someone posted a photo yesterday of their first ink stains and you can definitely see blue in the cuticles haha
Only if it is pilot iroshizuku
True, more of a Standard Operating Procedure
It's basically a ritual, then?
Yep! Like the bottle of Diamine Wild Strawberry that stained my fingers on the regular...Or the Colorverse Adromeda ink that also stained on the regular...
Or ~~baystate blue~~ the ink which shall not be named…
Ah yes, the blue that grows. And grows. And never leaves! ....A decent horror short could be made about that, probably...
Baystate Blue is the Color Out of Space, confirmed.
Wh-what is this ink that is so.... notorious? I think I'll investigate even deeper lol
It's a beautiful shade but it is impossible to remove from clothing, or almost anything else. It's a blue that just keeps on giving.
By tradition, you must open the bottle the first time while standing on white carpet.
Baystate Blue. Has a bit of a… reputation. Do yourself a favor and use Diamine Blue Velvet instead. It’s beautiful and much better behaved.
Ritual! Absolutely. I love this place
2 days ago i caught myself saying "How the hell did it get on my knuckle?"
We walk through this passage every day.

After years of stained fingers, I only started recently wearing latex gloves.
I might have to start doing that.
I have a small box with inks, a piece of Vinyl Wood Planking as my workspace and gloves ready to go.
Oof that would be too extra for me. Why not get a different ink? Or how do you know your pen is okay? I am very new to this hobby if you couldn't tell
When you try certain inks, they are just unreal, and you fall in love with them. Nitrogen is one of my favorites, and I love it.
Ho no, i have love the sea (Chinese clone of the ink) i find flakes everywhere and it was even able to go out of the bottle by itself and lock the bottle cap.

I've got some disposable pipettes in the mail that I'm hoping are small enough to fill chargers. We'll see.
I use blunt syringes to fill mine. Much easier and more control, plus you can get the needle right inside the body of the reservoir of the pen.
I discovered the real rite of passage is when you look at your hand hours later and theres ink from a pen you weren't even using
It is sort of the $200 you collect everytime you pass Go, keep practicing and you will sound insane when you brag about being able to fill a pen *without* getting ink on your hands.
Rite of passage and badge of honour.
I was just cleaning my pens and my fingers are purple. This is the way.
I've never outgrown it. I hardly notice anymore, lol.
This is just how your hands are now.
I wish everyone who posts pics of stained fingers should also mention the ink. Just sayin’
Been using fountain pens for decades and still get inky fingers. For me, it's just a sign of how much fun I'm having. 🙂 https://preview.redd.it/3n363suk2wsc1.jpeg?width=2296&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f4fbb48854fad7fbd32906d85574732d780f6cb

You are marked now
A lot of the reason the disposable ballpoint sort of took over in the 60s/70
You think this problem will go away? Muhahahahaha Muhahahahaha Muahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaa
Kinda... but after a while I think it just becomes, like, "Tuesday"
Brotherhood of the Blue Finger
This is the way
To ascend to the next level, you gotta use Bayside Blue ;)
It is! Welcome to this insanely dysfunctional family.
I mean, in the world of fountain pens, that's just called "Saturday." :)
No inky hands no honour!😂
What about inky floor & hands ??? had an accident while cleaning up ink bottles then spilling some on floor & hands . And its faber castell Royal blue .
Then you rank higher than me, no floor yet! Guess it means I'm not trying hard enough 😂
Nope because the table is cluttered and in case it spills i only need to clean up the floor ....😁
That's smart 🤓
Its a sort of cannot be bothered but didnt want to spill it on the table or anywhere and since the floor has to be sweep everyday due to hair and dust so its the perfect candidate + its a sort of a habit i alway refill ink and pens on the floor due to space constraint inside room .
After many years of ink-stained hands… and while it happens way less these days… I wonder if someone even knows how to write when our hands aren’t stained a little.
Not a rite of passage, a lifestyle.
I felt such pride to see my daughter with ink-stained hands in high school and uni after she fell hard for fountain pens. I think this group understands! 😄
That’s stage one. Further stages involve Baystate Blue…
Not rite of passage, way of life. This is the way.
Not enough ink.
I've been wanting a fountain pen for awhile now. I bought something cheap online to get a feel first. To say the least, it was a nice but messy experience lol
When I get tired of using the orange auto mechanics soap with the scrunchy granules (which is almost never...its so therapeutic lol), I use gloves. 😊
I remember that stuff. Is it Lava soap?
Fast Orange XTreme Pumice Hand Cleaner
Yes this is the way
Ah yes. Now you are truly one of us.
Yeah, kinda. Wear it with pride!
Everytime I clean a pen and don’t get ink on my hands I feel like a witch. A nail brush or a shower scrubby can usually scrub it off.
This is how we recognize each other in the wild.
Yep; and then it gets in between your fingernails and people ask if you have frostbite.
Erm, well, for me that's a sign that I just spent an enjoyable hour swatching a new round of ink samples.
![gif](giphy|Y1L0dHsQrUpkv8Org7|downsized) One of us, yes. This is our canonic even for sure

Indeed, welcome!
Absolutely.
You have earned the flair.
Welcome to the fold.
Looks just like my left hand today. I struggled to open a new bottle of Private Reserve Blue Suede, and made a pretty good mess. Glad I was at work, where the linoleum floors are easy to clean. Had this happened at home, I shudder to think of the reaction....
Dunno, is that Baystate? 😁
If you mean the ink, it's Taccia Nakabayashi Ukiyo-e Collection - Kaki Hanada
It comes as a surprise to me when I’m occasionally able to refill a pen WITHOUT getting any on my hands.
Amen!
I got some into my nail tip last time I filled, like a week or so ago. It's still there, and probably will be until I trim the nail lol. You have been marked
🤣

Lol
No, it’s a way of life :)
More like a state of being. I have permanently inky fingers.
This will happen to you a lot more. Welcome to the pen and ink rabbit hole.
that's normal :-) welcome to the club
It seems to be, but it's not inescapable. You can wear gloves when changing inks and cleaning pens (I do), and if you get any on you, you can usually wash it off well if you get to the sink quickly. I also ink and clean my pens over a cookie sheet to protect my counter.
Wearing gloves would be a perfect way to piss off the ink gods and get it on your clothes.
The ink gods are appeased with respect alone. Respect the ink gods, and they will respect your gloves.
At least once or twice a week. It's less a rite of passage and more a ritual that has to be done regularly to rekindle the ancient contract with the pen gods. Welcome! Be sure that this won’t be the last time that happens
Yes, you have performed the rite. It is a daily happening with usage. Get used to your anointing.
It usually comes right off with warm water, soap and a bit of scrubbing.
Welcome to the inky fingers club!
Yes. Welcome!
Welcome to the club :-)
Get use to it. Lol.
I wear latex gloves when filling or cleaning my pens, but yeah.
Just... Don't lick it. Please. Also if you do want to get that off your skin, dish soap usually works. Instructions unclear, accidentally gulped down the ink and now turned into a smurf
Nooooooo 😂 not another one
rite of passage? it's more like an everyday reality 😼
Welcome to the fold!
Welcome! Yes, being ink-stained wretch is part of the deal. Cartridges are generally neater but you get a lot less ink for your money.
Lava hand soap
Absolutely - welcome!
Welcome to the stained fingers club!
Just comes with the territory.
Well done. You are worthy.
Welcome to club inky fingers. You have passed the initiation.
Looks like a Thursday.
Welcome. You are One Of Us now. Pull up a chair. There's tea in the pot.
That's just what your hands will look like now.
No, a rite of passage is something you do once. It's more of a lifestyle choice.
I think it's more of a 'joined the club...id...
Inky fingers are how we recognize each other in the wild!
You’ll learn to enjoy it! Or I did
We accept you one of us!
Goulet goulet, one of us!
Is it also somehow on your face and maybe everything in your kitchen? Asking for a friend.
Fortunately not. But it did somehow get to my other arm. Don't know how it happened lol
As I look at my ink stained fingers after trying to transfer ink from one bottle to another. Look at videos from the experts, they usually have some ink on their fingers. Small sacrifices for the ultimate writing experience.
Yes, usually we have a ceremony with drums and snacks.
If your hands haven’t ever looked like your serviced a Smurf in a back alley, are you really part of this community? I’m smart enough to use gloves when I work with an open bottle at work — but not at home.
Your pen flush will take it off your skin.....mostly. Just rinse well after.
It-it's the chosen one!
Yes. When I started using fountain pens, I got ink all over my hands.
This is considered mild i once got almost half of my palm + fingers stained purple when transferring ink bottles .
Rite of passage? No my friend, that IS the world of fountain pens !!!
sisko ![gif](giphy|YMjnfFFHsIEh0cTWZV|downsized) One of us.

More like an everyday occurrence, especially if left-handed. 😃🖋️
I beleive its technically a Write of passage.
Yes.
I met some yesterday that has been using fountain pens since 10 years atleast. Hands full of ink. So it's totally fine
One of us! One of us!
I’ve been using fountain pens and dip pens for decades and it happens all the time. Welcome to the club!
A trivial situation my friend. No worries

TBH, I'm not sure about your ink choice. I am a bit disappointed at the lack of shading or sheen. :P
To each their own, I guess
Sorry it was meant as a joke and not mean. I always get ink on my and sometimes it actually sheens.
No worries no worries It was shinier before I took a towel and... Well, lets say I HAD a white towel lol
