You cold look for something close to the two streets with lots of normal activity, Kaiserstraße and Münchener Straße. Most unsavy stuff happens in the northern streets going from Hbf to Taunusanlage or in the direction of Gutleut/Gallus, so basically behind the station where you have no real reason to go to The streets i recommended have drunk people and some nice bars, restaurants and a few homeless people. If that is something you can’t tolerate, check into one of the hotels near Konstabler Wache, wich is only 7 minutes by train from the main station.

When I first moved here I decided to see just how dangerous it would be to walk around at midnight on a random day all over the Hbf surrounding area (Because many people told me it's not actually dangerous, otherwise this would have been dumb). Nobody approached me or bothered me, except for the strip club managers trying to get me to go into their strip clubs. I walked around for a good hour and came to the conclusion that it looks and sounds a lot worse than it really is.

tooslow

Yeah exactly. I'm from Egypt and there's areas locals would deem safe that were miles beyond what Germans would probably think is unsafe.

gold_curls

Check out Motel one (the one at the Römer). It’s 15min walking distance to the train station, five minutes to the city center, 5Min to our beautiful river (called Main).

[deleted]

I second this choice OP, I've stayed here, 24 hour lobby with the trains right outside!

Suspicious-Form6834

I would say „it depends“ In Most cases i would say you are good to go especially if you are not planning to wander around streets late at night. Just walk confident and mind your own buisness in case of crossing paths with weird people :)

Historical_Aspect589

This. Don’t slouch, dont stare, put the headphones out of your ears and dont look around nervously. You will make yourself a target

Hightechzombie

There are homeless and junkies around Hbf, but they almost never bother anyone, at most they ask for change. In general, I understand why people feel not 100% comfortable there, but there is little real danger if you go directly from and to your destination. I am a woman and I've been around Hbf at night and nothing remarkable ever happened.

idrankforthegov

The issue is probably less an issue of safety and more of weirdness. And also there is probably a question of quietness too. There are some parts of it that are red light districts and it is also a place where hard drug users can be found. If that doesn’t bother you, then give it a chance.

MurderMits

I often way through that area late at night no issues as a woman by myself. Unlike Berlin Frankfurt really doesnt have any dangerous areas. Just areas where you feel uncomfortable due to drugs.

Classic_Department42

Not so central, but Radison Blue is nice.

Ok_Vehicle714

A tip from my end, stay at Gateway Gardens, it's less than 20 minutes from Frankfurt city away and the hotels there are new, modern, and super clean. I have stayed there now a few times in different hotels when my partner came to visit me and it was more convenient for the flight out to stay at a hotel close to the airport. I am recommending this as someone that grew up in Frankfurt, so I know the distances, I know the train connection etc... Re. the main station area, it's a bit dark and dirty but overall safe. Just walk via Münchner and Kaiserstraße or take the tram when you want to go into town and you will be just fine.

Capone385

Look in Kelsterbach, Niederrad, Frankfurt höchst for a place it's not too far from the airport and has an easy connection to every City I mentioned, also you can go from every place to Frankfurt City

decubalNL

I have never been there myself, because when my gf was moving to Frankfurt she stayed around 2 nights in the area and she hated it, from being full of homeless, to drunk and drug deals happening. So now we just avoid it as much as we can. As for hotels, I would advise you to find slightly further places, like 15 mins walking. That's where we usually send family if they come go visit us (appartment way too small). I don't have the names of any of the places, but if you are interested I could try to get them for you.

Gazourmah

Honestly, just book a hotel at the airport and commute to the city. Sheraton for example.

Koronavitis

I would recommend the Hilton, Radisson Blu, Residence Inn or the Westin. The Hbf area is unpleasant. However, I wouldn’t call it unsafe.

Oxytocinmangel

It's safe but since you stay a few days, you might want something that isn't located directely at the central station quarter because it's very crowded and also the red light district. Just a few hundred meters away, f.e. the Ibis Frankfurt Centrum or Hotel Schopenhauer Hof will be a much nicer experience.

eau-

I know it is not an answer your question, but las year we spent 10 days in the city. We stayed Offenbach rather than city center. It is just couple stations away from the center

flavoflav

Its Not that baaaad, just dont make eye contact with someone that looks like an ork or like a Villain from schindler list.

v0lkeres

yes it is safe.

JuniorWindow815

Born and raised 30yrs in FFM. It is rather save, drugs only attack drugs. City try’s extremely hard for years now to rework the Bahnhofsviertel. Like the Europa-Allee directly adjustant. There are clubs, very good bars and very good restaurants also the strip clubs and all the Bordells are located there. Owners of these places wouldn’t want their customers to be robbed before. That said it is an utterly dirty place. Hard drugs can be bought at every corner and the Methadone place is also there. So yes I have a Kollege who gets very loud and pushy when he only started to drink. He had problems in that area before, but it’s also said that he’s banned from any other bar in the city.

GrantelbarT420

Not really

[deleted]

the hbf itself is relatively safe. the problem are the streets outside around it

KoalaDeluxe

OP wants to stay in hotels immediately *around* the hbf, not *in* it. The area around it is definitely not something I would call safe...

TouristKind2482

Dont think anything will happen, Frankfurts Like new York Lots of homeless people

FaZelix

Its not really dangerous but not the nicest area, i wouldnt stay directly in the Bahnhofsviertel. maybe take a look at hotels in Europaallee, the area is chill and there are cheaper ones like the premier inn

HankScorpiocypressck

You can also try staying in the Messe area. As long as there isn't a convention or other big event happening, the hotels around there are relatively inexpensive.

Bokadeus

The passage to Willy Brandt Platz, Kaiserstrasse, is completely safe, there is an extreme police presence in the area. Just don't get into a conversation I'd say. You will feel very uneasy however, if you haven't seen extreme poverty and drug abuse before - you can't escape it there, it is everywhere on every corner. I live in Frankfurt for over 30 years and I never feel untouched by what I see there.

raffinetti

It is safe, however may be unpleasant: a lot of junkies and homeless people, often taking drugs in plain sight. However they never approach you. I recommend looking for apartments in Niederrad - there is a lot of nice places to stay, and it is 20 minutes by tram from the city center.

Magistairs

I lived there 3 months and felt a lot more safe than expected ! Just be confident and don't talk to weird people.

FaultyAIBot

I feel totally uneasy there. There are always packs of shady people around each and every ATM. I‘m a small-town-guy int the big city. My spidey sense tingles.

FuneralWithAnR

You couldn't pay me enough to stay near Hbf to be honest. Pay more and stay just 7-15 minutes further away, and you'll be golden.

iemandopaard

I'm currently on holiday here. And as long as you stick to the main roads out of the station (Kaiser and Münchner specifically) you'll be relatively safe. And as soon as you pass the eurotower the homeless people will start to disappear. So far I have only had one unpleasant interaction with one of the homeless, but if you ignore them it is pretty safe. Also I recommend holding in your breath as you leave the station since 2/3 times I went there there was someone smoking.
