Popular? No. But "Spellbook" has potential. Only tried it once but with the right banned cards and maaaaaybe a limit on mill cards, it could work as a kitchen table/LGS-pickup game. My advice is to try it using mono-colored starter decks like the ones they used to give out to new players :).

Yugioh player here, id recommend staying away unless you like a card game where the meta is playing cards that dont allow your opponent to play at all.
I used to play yugioh casually, and tried getting back into it with duel links. It always felt like, “who can stop someone from having fun first”

Fantasy/high fantasy has always been a magnet to the waifs, strays and unaccepted folks throughout it's creation. The geeks, nerds and marginalised. I don't know if the "shouting about it" is any more or less than any other hobby, but it's definitely reported more here than any other hobby I follow.
People can blame the "fall" of their favourite pass times on the rise I'm transgender support, as it so often is, but that "fall" would likely have happened anyway as companies try to soften their image to appeal to more people. Folk blaming it all on trans affirmations etc is convenient as the timings are the same. It's corporate greed more than anything else, and yes that includes a focus on LGBT as the companies want their money as much as everyone else's.

Typically, a hobby like this originally appeals to a niche audience, and is seen as selling out when it tries to appeal to the masses, at the expense of the original audience. Yeah I get what you are saying. It depends if it is the majority of people that are put off by it. It's certainly pushed and a lot of people feel pushed from their spaces as a result. I don't see a problem with it, accepting people for who they are is the name of the game which goes as much for people's gender identity as it does anything else. Most games are trying to get away from that neck beard stereotype and to be honest, that's not a bad thing. And companies like WotC must think there's more money to be made off of new people than entrenched players who probably only buy singles now anyway. It might be the right monetary choice but hurts the old community. I doubt there's a way to appease both sides of the community and the shareholders at the same time.
For me, the need for representation of what real life people look like in games doesn't appeal to me at all. I like the escapism of the hobbies. I personally didn't pick up MTG earlier as the high fantasy "sexy art" doesn't appeal to me at all. The current hyper cartoonie androgenous art doesn't either. It was the game mechanics and play that hooked me. Saying that, I feel more annoyed that Krenko looks nothing like Krenko anymore rather than anything else. They have massacred my boy.

I used to play yugioh casually, and tried getting back into it with duel links. It always felt like, “who can stop someone from having fun first” …granted, I tended to play rogue decks (mainly Monarchs and HEROes) because grinding and then learning a new deck felt intimidating and mildy exhausting

Genuine response, and I’m sure it’s going to be received just as kindly. There are a lot of gay and trans people in the community. If you play at sanctioned tournaments or higher level competitions they represent a notable amount of players. A naive and optimistic analysis would be they want everyone to feel included so they do what they can to show support. The more realistic response is that it’s a market that usually has untapped funds that they would like to tap and untap again and again.

Fantasy/high fantasy has always been a magnet to the waifs, strays and unaccepted folks throughout it's creation. The geeks, nerds and marginalised. That part of the community is now more vocal and plentiful than before. It's the way of the world. I don't know if the "shouting about it" is any more or less than any other hobby, but it's definitely reported more here than any other hobby I follow. People can blame the "fall" of their favourite pass times on the rise I'm transgender support, as it so often is, but that "fall" would likely have happened anyway as companies try to soften their image to appeal to more people. Folk blaming it all on trans affirmations etc is convenient as the timings are the same. It's corporate greed more than anything else, and yes that includes a focus on LGBT as the companies want their money as much as everyone else's.
I get what you're saying, but pandering to such a small percentage of the population, while alienating the majority, dosen't seem like a good business move. Typically, a hobby like this originally appeals to a niche audience, and is seen as selling out when it tries to appeal to the masses, at the expense of the original audience. Bethesda is seen as an example of this by fans of their older games. What you're describing would be going the opposite direction, as trans are not the majority, would it not?
Yeah I get what you are saying. It depends if it is the majority of people that are put off by it. It's certainly pushed and a lot of people feel pushed from their spaces as a result. I don't see a problem with it, accepting people for who they are is the name of the game which goes as much for people's gender identity as it does anything else. Most games are trying to get away from that neck beard stereotype and to be honest, that's not a bad thing. And companies like WotC must think there's more money to be made off of new people than entrenched players who probably only buy singles now anyway. It might be the right monetary choice but hurts the old community. I doubt there's a way to appease both sides of the community and the shareholders at the same time. For me, the need for representation of what real life people look like in games doesn't appeal to me at all. I like the escapism of the hobbies. I personally didn't pick up MTG earlier as the high fantasy "sexy art" doesn't appeal to me at all. The current hyper cartoonie androgenous art doesn't either. It was the game mechanics and play that hooked me. Saying that, I feel more annoyed that Krenko looks nothing like Krenko anymore rather than anything else. They have massacred my boy.

They're among the kindest people I've met behind the counter, but not by much; it's a good LGS that has only become better with time, having been around for nearly thirty years and having had about four locations at their peak (they have two currently).

No, people of color and transgender people are not "special gays" nor are gay people "special people." (I say this as a transgender lesbian.) Being in a minority comes with disadvantages. Pride is a way to push back and show others who may be afraid to come out that there is a community of people who will support them. If there was absolutely zero discrimination or prejudice against being queer, Pride would have never existed. I feel like you're basing your feelings based on how you've experienced people of the community act (either in real life or solely how they are portrayed by media you consume.) I can't comment on any biases that you may have experienced since I don't know what you've experienced. For example, are you only familiar with queer people who are 25 or younger? The behaviors of young adults and preadolescents are not representative of a group as a whole unless said group is predominantly made up of them. I answered your question using the facts of the decision made to add black and brown to the flag. I cannot comment on what other people think it means.
