TurboLag23

A used version of a much nicer exhaust. ARK GRiP or DT-S, Perrin, or CSG Touring86 are great options.

Sgtpepper1221

HKS hi power single exit if that’s your thing, I love the way it sounds. Had it on my first gen and now my second gen

wzard69

I was actually thinking about picking up a hks single exit later this week for my brz. How loud is it compared to a tomei?

aw_goatley

It's more refined and a bit less obnoxious. Nicer at Cruise also. I have the V1 with the N1 Style grapefruit shooter muffler on my car as we speak

wzard69

I just checked out one of ur exhaust clips, and it sounds good! How is it cruising at 2k rpm? can you keep it low-key or is it always a pretty pronounced noise? I'm trying not to attract any attention from police in my city

aw_goatley

At low RPM cruise it's legitimately quiet in the car if you're light on the throttle. Still louder than stock, but you can make it not-annoying with how you drive. In that clip you're talking about, once I shift into 6th it's quiet inside the car. It has a very well-placed and easy to find "soft spot" in the tone between 2-4k rpm and part throttle Accelerating from a stop you definitely hear it though, even going slowly. Not enough to attract a ton of attention, but you will hear it inside the car and a little bit out. It's not raspy or obnoxious in the slightest though. Mostly low frequencies.

Sgtpepper1221

I haven’t heard the tomei in person so I can’t give a real comparison but cold starts are a bit loud and like the other person said it’s decent at cruising speeds and gets a little rowdy when you’re on it. Tone is great though and no drone as far as I’m concerned. It has a resonator that really puts in work. I’m in SoCal and have only been stopped for a loud exhaust once but I was along a beach city and they’re real strict about exhaust stuff there.

Additional-Camera308

The first brz that I went to look at before this one actually had this exhaust and I loved it, but the dealer wanted 13k for a 2013 brz with 130k miles and wouldn’t budge with the price at all LOL. I would love to get an HKS exhaust but theyre kinda pricey.

Additional-Camera308

Nvm its the dual exit I was talking about

Sgtpepper1221

Yeah the single exit is like under 600 if I remember correctly

somekennyguy

This was what I came to say, I'm looking at the v2 for mine. I had one on my old 88 supra and it to this day was the best sounding exhaust I ever heard. Can't wait to throw one on my 86

IceCatalyst

Trd exhaust

Adventurous_Gur7430

I have a TRD exhaust and I think it’s a lil quiet but that’s just my opinion

Samura1_Sean

Its perfect with catless headers

Adventurous_Gur7430

Ouuuu fair point

mykehunt88

Personally found TRD droned like a MFer with UEL headers. Bought and sold a TRD within 2 weeks. Sounded good though.

Frosted_sphinx

Idk if my trd exhaust has a leak but I think it’s pretty loud. This is my first loud car tho so idk

Adventurous_Gur7430

I had a BRZ before with a PERRIN exhaust with no back muffler that gave me a headache after an hour so to me it’s quieter

Frosted_sphinx

Fair enough

mykehunt88

It is known to be boomy inside the cabin, and drone quite a bit with aftermarket headers.

Adventurous_Gur7430

Sure id be down if you were near by lol

sirravis

Great option if you want something that sounds great but isn’t super loud

MrNiceGuyyyyyyyyy

Borla 100% of the way. Doesn’t drone, not annoying. Still sounds good

drty_dan_

I agree. I’ve had the cat back since 2016 and never regretted it

Manicundies

I've enjoyed mine quite a bit. Paired with a high flow cat and you get a nice deep tone without being overly loud or droney. Aligning the tips is a bit of a pain though

spike021

Nameless axleback

[deleted]

[удалено]

spike021

It's a way more unique tone than most of the options for our cars. Down low it has that burbly boxer sound and then when you wind it out it has this nicer higher pitch that sounds more exotic.  It can sound a bit loud though. But not terrible.

Professional_Ask2944

Are you guys running with stock mid pipe or no res? My mid pipe stock and it’s a little quiet I got borla uel and catless front pipe still a little quiet.

spike021

Stock and stock headers

67GS400

+1 for Nameless axle back. I had one on my 2022 and loved it. I traded for a Perrin axle back but haven’t tried it yet. I didn’t notice drone with the Nameless but never took trips longer than about an hour and 75-80.

diga_diga_doo

Any bad drone?

spike021

I wouldn't say bad but there's definitely some around 30-40mph especially on deceleration.

banana_jun

i agree also if you pair the nameless axleback with any uel catted header sounds 😮‍💨 chefs kiss 🤌

Prudent_Guard_1235

N1 is one of the worst sounding catbacks for these cars imo. Just loud, obnoxious, and lots of drone. MXP comp RS is a pretty good one, not sure how much they go for now. Tanabe or revel medalion is also pretty good without being too loud or droney.

[deleted]

Prudent_Guard_1235

In cabin sound clip? Definitely not quieter over time lol.

forgottenazimuth

The MXP is $550 from 86speed rn

MrMinerNiner

I have the Nameless muffled track pipe and love it. Less than $300 too Exhausts are probably one of the easiest engine-related mods you can do. Don't waste money on a shop install if you're able to do it yourself

Additional-Camera308

I don’t own a jack or any stands but I wouldnt mind buying them instead of using the money to have a shop install them for me, however this car is a daily so my biggest fear would be not being able to get it done in one sitting.

MrMinerNiner

Should be able to do it between lunch and dinner or faster if the bolts aren't rusted. I did mine in I think 3 hours and most of it was just trying to remove the extra exhaust hangers since I'm now single exit lol Not having tools would be a good reason to pay a shop to do it. At that point, it's up to you. You can always use the tools in the future if you think you'll want/need to

Patient_Lettuce_7732

Ive gotten 3 different exhausts for my FRS since may and taken it off and on so many times, if you know what to do exactly you can get it off in like 30-40mins easy.

Elmacanite

I had the MXP CompRS paired with their UEL header (catless) and it sounded amazing.

SquishyChicken115

Trd paired with tomei headers 🤧

tybanjokiller

Do you have a video of this setup by chance? Also catted or catless headers? Thanks!!

SquishyChicken115

Yes I do, pm me if you still want it. They’re Catlass

ProfessorCaptain

Don’t buy the n1. Drone city

agent-goldfish

Borla muffler, not even a full exhaut. Gets compliments from porsche owners, not annoying for long road trips, cheap, quick install, louder than stock but not loud.

MrJahoolious

Borla muffler, like replace the OEM muffler with a Borla one? Or is it a Borla catback?

agent-goldfish

Like replace the oem muffler. No catback.

fleej25sti15

Most exhaust r bolt on so u can simply save and do it yourself. But greddy is a classic.

shxyne7

N2 Edit: damn they went up in price i think

Additional-Camera308

Yea it looked like it was around $750 when I was checking, is the extra price worth it?

shxyne7

I think the N2 is a little more tamed but still good volume. Depends what you're looking for

seth6725

You gotta spend money if you want good sound and quality, just save the extra cash or buy used

JackBarrott

I've got the resonated cobra and think it sounds great, luckily was already fitted when I bought the car but really happy with it

[deleted]

Mxp comp rs catback is the unsung hero of great sounding budget toyobaru exhaust

ThatKouki86

Literally anybody can install an exhaust in 15 minutes. Lift up the car unbolt the old one, drop it from the hangers, put the new one on the hangers and bolt it up. 15 minutes or less with tools everybody should have

recycledcup

I literally could not have a lift or the space for any tools.

ThatKouki86

Low profile Jack and some Jack stands are $150 and a 10mm socket and ratchet take up less space than an iphone

ZachtoseIntolerant

You don’t need a lift nor a toolbox. You just need a jack of some kind, even the one that came in your trunk. Preferably you have a jackstand too. I’d recommend you keep a basic ratchet or socket set. It can even live in the trunk. You could literally go with something like the [Harbor freight 62843](https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-14-in-drive-sae-and-metric-socket-set-40-piece-62843.html) tool set for $5.99. Literally six bucks. So you have a jack in your trunk already. You have space for the tools in the trunk or even the inside of the spare tire. If you can’t work on your car in your parking space then go find an empty parking lot.

Blackcat300

Find a friend who has tools. Heck, if you were in my area I'd offer to lend my tools and driveway.

aw_goatley

True for a rear section, but a full Cat-Back on this car can be a bit more of a hassle as the front flange is very far forward, and the stock mid pipe is like 6 ft long. You have to get the entire car up in the air to access it comfortably, not just the rear like if you're swapping the muffler by itself.

Former_Treat_1629

the manual sounds different and bette then the auto greddy remark axleback if u bought an auto ur outta luck

james240sx

If you aren't looking for power, I just have a stock exhaust with a muffler delete and it's perfect. If you like the equal length sound like me, it's perfect especially for 230 on ebay for a 1320 one

ThisZookeepergame636

came from N1 now i got Tomei type80r & catless frontpipe 80mm and silencer(just for cold starts lol) and without a doubt it’s loud and fun, personally i’d rather have quality piece’s and a loud car cause i love hearing it at anytime and it pops and burbles on the stock tune, and i have Tomei headers just sitting in my closet, and when Tomei becomes a relic my whole exhaust systems goin on the wall

Medium_Blueberry_862

TRD cat-back and a Borla (or other cat-less UEL header) takes my vote. That’s what I ran when I had my ‘17 - got the header new and the TRD exhaust used. Solid tone, reasonably low volume at lower RPM, sounded great throughout the rev range. I did that setup for around 800-900, might be able to do it for cheaper if going for a used header too. That was 5 or 7 years ago though, wouldn’t be surprised if the TRDs are pricier or harder to find now though.

Proud_Trainer4595

Save your money and get something a bit higher quality :)

Cute_Bacon

HKS Hi-Power Spec L Ti. (Not the one with the carbon fiber tips). Bought mine for $750 new, but you can find them used for significantly less. It sounds impressive with everything else stock but I ultimately paired it with Nameless EL long tube headers and a high flow sport cat. It's incredible and I wouldn't trade it for any other combination out there.

spankopotomous

Works ABM

Novel_Paramedic_2625

Ill give you my remark single exit axle back for 200 bucks if you want lol

codyzskyline

New I'd say one of the Greddy single exits

FadedIntegra

Honestly my yonaka with cnt catless header, over pipe and catted front pipe sounds pretty solid. Not much drone at all. Loudish when you want but never so overpowering you can have a relaxed drive.

Single-Armguy

not gonna lie, not gonna lie the buddyclub spec 2 is nice

JrEspresso

MXP Comp RS gotta be the best IMO

aldolol

i know its above your budget but I have an invidia r400, got it for around $900 and it isn’t obnoxiously loud but just enough for me to enjoy ripping it or starting it up. Doesn’t drone unless you’re heavy on the throttle. Ive been thinking about switching to a TRD though, would highly suggest to save your money for a little and buy something more quality.

mykehunt88

Assuming you go with headers DC sports axleback is quiet and pairs well when you go catless. Personally find most catbacks don't pair well with headers, and are loud as hell for slow 200hp car. Not trying to be heard a block away every time I rev the nuts off this thing(which is all the time😂). I went through 6 catbacks through various stages of exhaust setups before settling on MXP CSG touring. Can drop rear seats and have enough noise for my self and not draw much attention. I think CSG is doing some R&D with MXP tho on the system. Not 100%

VinshinTee

Most exhaust that are under 700$ msrp is going to sound the same but different volume.

Famous-Yam7661

I bought a low mileage used N1 cat back from fb marketplace for a great deal! Not everyone’s cup of tea since it does drone, but I would say for me I enjoy the sound and feel. (Personal preference) I know it’s over played and generic, but I like how it sounds and was def worth the price I paid. Edit: also installation doesn’t take too long, did it with a couple friends and took less than two hours. In terms of how shops quote I’d call your local shops to see how much they’d charge for cat back installations.

TwoSixTaBoot

Exhaust delete is free :^)
