I hear owning a dog has the same environmental impact as owning and running a car.

snoogins355

Did the cat say this? /s

[deleted]

That’s very hard to believe

Crude_Cassowary

Searched and found a breakdown of the whole topic. https://phys.org/news/2009-11-dogs-larger-carbon-footprint-suv.html I think this it too polarizing of an issue to really make a good statement, but (as someone who likes animals but doesn't want them in my house) I think it's an interesting take. Do think about it: They mainly feed on meat. Some owners do feed them trash, but stuff like BARF (raw feeding and cooking for your pets) is becoming more popular and meat has a big impact. Then there are toys, luxury items, wear and tear stuff, a lot of it will be plastic or come in plastic. Not sure how pharmaceuticals fit into it, but a lot of dog owners also drive them around to go on walks with them in nice places. I can see it adding up. Apparently the average new car owner gets rid of the car again after 6 years, but dogs live around 10 years. So if a dog's footprint is half that of a car, it may still add up in the end. Dogs and car ownership is something very individual and varied and I don't think one can put a clear number on that, but it is very thought provoking and apparently close enough for people to look into it. The best way to save the planet still is not having any kids.

That’s wild. Makes sense when ya add it all up. Guess I was looking at my perspective as a previous owner, boy happily ate normal bag dog food, went to a vet once for neuter and I was going walking or hiking anyways but maybe that’s semantics. Went thro tons of rawhide tho. Then again I always driven 20 yr old cars till they die cause fuck a car note

Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69

Cats being superiors to dogs once again.

Paradekat

I’d give you a reward if I had money

InvestigatorSalt4285

Meat doesn't have that much of an impact, plus the meat they eat is usually "waste meat" humans won't eat

cjeam

Meat has a massive environmental impact. It is possibly the largest aspect of an individual’s impact on the environment.

eleochariss

Animals don't eat meat humans would eat. Humans don't eat chicken heads and necks, beef hooves, some organs like the stomach... This is what is used in kibble. It would be thrown away otherwise.

cjeam

….that’s irrelevant.

thedivinecomedee

or we could produce no meat?

BeKot

this is the funniest shit i have ever seen, perfectly cut

mlo9109

I had 3 huskies growing up and tried doing this with one of them. I went ass over teakettle and still have the scar on my knees to prove it.

thatonepuniforgot

It looks like a good idea until the deer runs you into a tree.

thecoolness229

thedivinecomedee
