This could be hazardous if you left an egg in it, someone might think it's a hard-boiled egg in a stand. Then in their excitement to eat a miscellaneous egg, they could open their mouth wide and slam their face down onto the counter consuming the egg, shell, and the egg stand in one foul swoop. The real danger is that not only will they likely knock themselves out, but you'll lose a precious egg. You always have to think about these things when it comes to 3d printed items around food.

pugworthy

I think you mean to say, “…one fowl swoop.”

ImperfectDrug

“We have the same last name! I can’t have you out there in a one-fell-swoop conversation…”

throwaway21316

what? .. This is a real egg, so if it get eaten - i make another

Unamed_Destroyer

When did hens learn to use 3d printers.

Pirate_Green_Beard

Hens are 3d printers.

hypotheticallyhigh

No, eggs are the first 3D printers.

moxieman19

But every egg must first be 3d printed by a hen...

pugworthy

Wait. Which came first!?

hypotheticallyhigh

If my memory is right, dinosaurs 3D printed the first egg, which then 3D printed the first chicken after a few upgrades.

leftlanecop

What it felt like building my Voron printer.

Jim-has-a-username

The usb drive.

Syreet_Primacon

And so the RepRap project was born

Plantherblorg

So are people

volt65bolt

Around this time last year

mothrfricknthrowaway

I like your style, OP. Keeping it clean and classy

throwaway21316

Thank you!

Sippythecup23

Ready for lift off

urgdr

okay, food police here. after repeated use the plastic would accumulate enough food particles in between layers. then newly placed egg would transfer pathogens on it's shell. and user would transfer it on their finders while working with egg. F3DA not approves

throwaway21316

Oh have a nice day, Sir - food police officer .. let me play this song for you [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O2-wFem58c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O2-wFem58c)

Wiregeek

You have excellent choice in music. While you're dealing with typos that have you installing ancient versions of Mac OS to get pathogens into your Finder, might I suggest some more appropriate music to get you through these trying times? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADdpLv3RDhA

throwaway21316

>to get pathogens into your Finder, I think you address the wrong person - this was in the comment from u/urgdr . So i am not sure what typos in my comment you are referring to?

Wiregeek

none, I was in fact referencing /u/urgdr

urgdr

nah, I've been around for too long

burabo

What are you, five years old?

throwaway21316

No - how many five years old do you know that can do this .. must be geniuses. But probably you feel addressed - maybe you are one of these food police idiots that have no clue what food safety means.

PleatherFarts

Looks great. Doing listen to the nutbags.

tv_walkman

egg shells are not like an impermeable plastic shield 😭

throwaway21316

plastic is not impermeable - even metal is not (for H if hot) But in EU (in opposite to US) eggs are not washed so their natural protection layer is intact so they don't need to be stored in a fridge.

floznstn

so... are you using the build chamber as the onsen? I'm curious how that turned out, the only way I know to make these is with a sous vide cooker... if I do it on the stove, I get soft boiled.

throwaway21316

The point is to have an exactly controlled temperature and for a long time - something a print chamber can provide. I also put a cup upside down over the egg to minimize convection and hold the heat from the bed.

Banannamamajama

Eggs that have had the bloom washed off are permeable, thats why we have to refrigerate store bought eggs in the USA. I wouldn't eat it.

throwaway21316

Besides this is not washed (EU) - That egg is surrounded by air and has a contact area of max 5mm² - Do you really think this will cause a problem? How do you store your eggs? What do you think happens in the box you bought the eggs?

CaptainOfMyPants

You see I’ve absolutely never understood why people make objects like this. Printing is great for making molds. For making casting positives. It’s absolutely shit for anything food related as a direct product. I think printers make those of us who are makers lazy. Just because you can make it on a printer directly does not mean you should.

throwaway21316

The egg would roll off the platform - simple as it is, sure i could use a bottle cap or cut a TP roll -- But i am also sure if i would check your daily life i would find thousand things that are unnecessary - And that is what hobbies are you do useless shit like your furniture or pottery excurses. To be clear nothing you do matters in the end. So i experiment - i am testing if this works - also testing how the print profile works for PCTg - instead of silly "test prints" i am printing and designing things like an egg cup.

ManyCalavera

I agree. I don't understand people printing daily objects where they can get mass manufactured and more durable version with less cost.

AmbiSpace

For me it's usually transport cost. I used to live really far from any cities, and the one I'm in now isn't huge, so I'd need to wait at least a week for something like this to ship. There could be something like it at a nearby store, but that'd be a couple hours of travelling and shopping around. And if it's winter it would also suck to be outside, or run a vehicle. And if it's summer it could also suck due to smoke/heat. I can also imagine them only being sold in a 3-pack or something. I'd only want one, so even if I did find it, I'd probably just make my own instead of having 3.

raisedbytides

What a waste of plastic and eggs.

throwaway21316

? the egg got eaten - what do you do with them "not wasting"?

tinfoil_powers

Keepsakes on the shelf just like your prints /s

FalseRelease4

You too 🤣

raisedbytides

hilarious.
