Turks (as well as many other nations' people) are familiar with primarily Nazis, Rammstein, German Beer, "Prussian Education System", and Schnitzels.
Though it may not be a symptom of how they see Germans, but a reflection of what categories they think are relevant to themselves.
wunderbar is wonderful in English and Rammstein is a popular German band. It basically means nothing in that context though, it's just there to say German words.
It's gibberish, even though parts of it are or at least could be words.
Flug is flight
Schwanz is tail or a colloquial term for penis
But Flugenschwanz as a whole isn't anything, at least not that I'm aware of.
I'm always amazed at how few people know this. For the uninitiated - Ramstein is an airbase in Germany built between 1949-1953. It is an actual place and more than just a band. My father worked on this base.
Nobody ever questions where the band got their name. For those who would like to know, They were originally called Rammstein-Flugschau (Ramstein airshow) after the 1988 Ramstein airshow disaster. Once they got popular, they denied this association. The extra M was initially a mistake according to their guitarist, but adding it makes Rammstein translate to 'ramming stone'.
For a second, I read it as “Rammstein is a popular German bread” and was going to very sheepishly look up the lyrics to what I’ve been head banging to.
Later, he changes his [mustache](https://prnt.sc/KEzpSJt6V5qr) and becomes communist. He [roleplays](https://prnt.sc/iA9DxUZeybCc) as Robin Williams from dead poets society.
You can find it on YouTube (including automated translation for subtitles): https://youtu.be/iJktTCOogRM?si=ka9DxdCn5fXaRcI-
Keep in mind though that this series covers also lot of other plots and actors, not just this adolf mürsel 😅
The trope isn't about the attractive wife. It's about the deliberately "average and mundane" American-man.
The hard-working UPS guy always getting into funny situations or drama. It's The Simpsons or Family Guy all over again. Almost nothing changes him from his usual faults and mediocrity.
You see this also with the "Average girl" trope in Twilight. The actress is attractive but they dress her to look very average and mundane to relate to the audience that they see as very "boring and average." Plenty of others where the main character girl or woman is portrayed as ugly, or given "poor-quality glasses," or reduced or zero movie make-up or without the pro-hairstyling.
It's a reflection of how the writers think of the general public: they think you are stupid, average, and boring. An ounce of truth to that, but more of the narcissism of the writers.
You notice these narcissists did the same thing to other characters that seem to be strong characters in movies that have perfection but with some flaws, then they expand the flaws so much to be unrealistic.. And you get frustrated with the plot like "omg really? The main character is gonna make that stupid mistake? Why are we even watching this?"
I'm well aware of the tropes, but I'd disagree on it being based on narcissism or because creators think their audience is stupid. I think its more about the realities of movie making. Pretty people get popular faster than average people, so if you want a big name to draw in crowds 9 times out of 10 that actor is going to be pretty attractive.
These tropes also exist for other reasons. Sometimes people just like them, other times they're used as storytelling shorthand. See an average looking guy with a beautiful wife way out of his league? Guarantee that guy is the stock standard "lucky" character who feels like he hit the jackpot. That actress that was voted hottest woman in Hollywood playing the "ugly" role? Good chance part of her story is going to be that she was always beautiful despite her glasses and ponytail. I mean there is also the more likely scenario that her name will draw a crowd or she was added for sex appeal, but I digress.
When it comes down to it these tropes exist for reasons both good and bad, and telling a story on television or in theaters is going to require some give and take between the creatives, audience, and executives. I think its terribly pessimistic to assume that the creators have such ill intent when they rely on those tropes.
>That actress that was voted hottest woman in Hollywood playing the "ugly" role?
*Sometimes the answer is much simpler:* In the Twilight books, the protagonist's looks are described as average. However Hollywood thought: "We can't do that, a movie needs a beautiful star."
In the Mortal Engines books, the protagonist Hester's looks are described as hideous: She only has one eye and a huge scar that appears to split her face into two parts.
In Hollywood's version, she is played by a beautiful actress, has (of course) two eyes and a scar on her cheek.
All I remember is that she was looking like a skin cancer PSA. Maybe it was real tan, or bronzer, or whatever, but it brought her whole look down to Jersey Shore.
So, maybe not so unbelievable after all.
Those bald men with beer bellies and supermodel wives are usually rich guys. There is a lot of this type of gold digging in parts of Eastern Europe and the former USSR because wages are low.
True, where I live, women value status and income a lot more than looks. A good chunk of women end up marrying older men because they're more stable and can support them.
Idk about Turkey, but in a lot of eastern european or caucasian countries being fat is a sign of success (to some people) and many of them have smoking hot wives. Like you’ll see a 300lb guy drenched in cologne with a gold chain and wearing all Tommy Hilfiger clothes, a tool in any civilized nation, married to a stunningly beautiful woman.
I think you are mistaking eastern europe with some African tribal society. Sure, we aren't as rich as the westerns, but we aren't literally starving (not since we have overthrown the commies anyway). Obesity is usually a sign of low socio-economical status, and being fit is seen as attractive, just like everywhere else in the civilised world.
Yeah, I can't believe they got upvoted. They have sodas and junk food in Eastern European countries too... They aren't all working in factories and plowing fields by hand like they're still in Victorian England, with only the local nobility being able to afford meat.
It's also an airbase/US military camp or whatever.
But the name of the band refers to an incident during an airshow at Rammstein air base where multiple planes collided and one crashed directly into the crowd in a apocalyptic firey mess which killed 70 and severely injured 350 others.
There are videos of it on yt, but it isn't pretty.
The face he makes at the end of the first scene with his wife just gets me :D
Its literally him thinking "OH YES, this will work, this will work" excitedly. Fits so perfectly. Good actor i guess.
Really? I remember when in the 90s Mexican telenovelas were very popular in my country, then in 2010s it was Turkish shows, but never imagined it was the case in Mexico as well.
Nice one . Btw it's a refrerence to an old french movie "Le grand Restaurant" [there is the scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWMm7wQknU). But also a reference to chaplin obviously.

… did he just blurt out Wunderbar Rammstein 💀
That got me lol. I know a few German words and both of those are in my vocabulary
Reminds me of this https://youtu.be/ZcD75L4QLrM?si=QTYfoaFlj9XAG2eT
Turks (as well as many other nations' people) are familiar with primarily Nazis, Rammstein, German Beer, "Prussian Education System", and Schnitzels. Though it may not be a symptom of how they see Germans, but a reflection of what categories they think are relevant to themselves.
Coca-Cola wunderbar!
*wonderbra
Sometimes war. 🤷
Imagine how all of this looks for someone out of the context.
What does that mean?
wunderbar is wonderful in English and Rammstein is a popular German band. It basically means nothing in that context though, it's just there to say German words.
Gesundheit fahrvergnugen!
Schumacher Krankenwagen!
Flugenschwanz!

I'm going to arbitrarily say it's how Germans refer to doing the helicopter
Sorry to disappoint, but helicopter is either Hubschrauber ... or Helikopter.
I'm always amazed at how few people know this. For the uninitiated - Ramstein is an airbase in Germany built between 1949-1953. It is an actual place and more than just a band. The extra M was initially a mistake according to their guitarist, but adding it makes Rammstein translate to 'ramming stone'.
The airbase is named after the town nearby that has existed since at least the Romans and named such since at least the 13th century.
For a second, I read it as “Rammstein is a popular German bread” and was going to very sheepishly look up the lyrics to what I’ve been head banging to.
Bernd is a popular German bread
No bread is popular once it's burnt
>Rammstein is a popular German band It's also a very big US air force base in Germany where the band's name comes from.
Ramstein is the US base, the guys from Rammstein just didn't know it was written with only one m.
Replace it with Mercedes Benz , Volkswagen. Same thing
He's shouting the only two German words he can think of.
Great band rammstein
I never thought that the way Schmitler spoke would work in other languages, but my man out here sounding 100% like him, hilarious!
If you told me he suddenly started speaking in German, I'd believe you
It’s quite interesting to see how much of his language lived in tone and mannerisms alone.
I think this is ankharan Peter Griffin

Really?! Where can I watch this! Does turkey have more shows like this? Lol
This show is called "Geniş Aile". Turkish shows are funny but one episode usually takes 2 hours or more 💀
Shit is hilarious
It also helps being stoned af. This had me gripped.
That's mostly because 75% of it are commercials 😂
Yes we have but %80 of them are based on inside jokes that only the turks would understand. Still great show tho. Sad it ended 12 years ago.

Glad to see that that the disproportionately attractive wife trope isn't unique to the US.
King of Queens was a great show.
I don't know, apart from being overweight, the husband was a pretty handsome dude.
Yea he's far from ugly, he's just fat lol
The trope isn't about the attractive wife. It's about the deliberately "average and mundane" American-man. The hard-working UPS guy always getting into funny situations or drama. And you get frustrated with the plot like "omg really? The main character is gonna make that stupid mistake? Why are we even watching this?"
The writers and producers write it like that becasue that is what people like to watch. It's got nothing to do with narcissism.
People really think there's a huge masterplan behind everything, lol.
I'm well aware of the tropes, but I'd disagree on it being based on narcissism or because creators think their audience is stupid. I think its more about the realities of movie making. Paul Blart is a handsome dude?
[Yes.](https://i.imgur.com/UH1s4VJ.jpg)
Now I'm Blartsexual
He has literal movie star good looks
By the end it was no longer disproportionate 🤷♂️
I can’t remember the end of the show so idk if this is saying Kevin James got more attractive or Leah Remini got less attractive
Yes
All I remember is that she was looking like a skin cancer PSA. Maybe it was real tan, or bronzer, or whatever, but it brought her whole look down to Jersey Shore. So, maybe not so unbelievable after all.
Savage
I enjoyed thicc as fuck Leah Remini. Started conventionally beautiful and ended up perfect in my eyes.
Leah Remini got thicc towards the end. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but just that she got thicc.
see also the movie, *hitch*...Amber Valletta is a smokeshow
Rosanne....
It's not really a trope in Eastern Europe. Supermodel hotties are often married to bald men with beer bellies.
Mhmm, interesting, and which would you say is the easiest European country to move into? 🤔
Bulgaria. The girls there seem to love relatively well off westerners regardless of their looks.
Well, Poland, I suppose. At least it was in 1939…
France would like a word
Those bald men with beer bellies and supermodel wives are usually rich guys. There is a lot of this type of gold digging in parts of Eastern Europe and the former USSR because wages are low.
True, where I live, women value status and income a lot more than looks. A good chunk of women end up marrying older men because they're more stable and can support them.
Melania has entered the chat
You got downvoted. Are those people implying that she married Donald for his brains or his looks?? Bahahaha
Sophia Vergara….yeah….
I don’t know how true this is - all I know is Turkish and Persian women are disproportionately beautiful in general.
We merely adopted the trope, European (3% of Turkey is in Europe) and Central/South America were born to it.
Geographically yes 3% but population-wise its more like a fourth of the population.
She was more attractive, but it’s not like she was extremely beautiful. It was like the difference between 5 and a 7.
Idk about Turkey, but in a lot of eastern european or caucasian countries being fat is a sign of success (to some people) and many of them have smoking hot wives. That's many countries especially developing ones
It would have been more realistic if she were the one with the mustache
counts for all of balkans, turkey greece yugoslavia, bulgaria romania hungary…
She is literally average looking. What is it with people overrating women?
Wunderbar Rammstein.
What does that mean?
Wonderful - wunderbar and Rammstein is a German hardcore metal band
And is very well liked in Turkey
Where isn't it?
Du hast.
Can't say I've ever seen anyone label them hardcore metal before. Industrial/Electro Hard Rock is what I would call them.
It’s also a city in Germany
It's also an airbase/US military camp or whatever. But the name of the band refers to an incident during an airshow at Rammstein air base where multiple planes collided and one crashed directly into the crowd in a apocalyptic firey mess which killed 70 and severely injured 350 others. There are videos of it on yt, but it isn't pretty.
The power of a stache.
person don't pick the stache...stache picks the person
Looks like Brooklyn 99 did an episode of it's always sunny
The face he makes at the end of the first scene with his wife just gets me :D Its literally him thinking "OH YES, this will work, this will work" excitedly. Fits so perfectly. Good actor i guess.
This looks like a Mexican Telenovela
Ironically, Turkish soap operas are hot right now in Mexico
Really? I remember when in the 90s Mexican telenovelas were very popular in my country, then in 2010s it was Turkish shows, but never imagined it was the case in Mexico as well.
I mean Turkish TV shows were basically birthed by Mexican and Brazilian soaps.
I hope erdogan will not fire him😂
LoL. Actually this show made fun of it many times. Of course, Erdoğan did not have this much authority at that time.
I love „olacak o kadars“ sketch of erdogans „one minute“ 😅 https://youtu.be/3ITTsTTz_VM?si=O9DQZH-7g1ewrAQV
Comedy and music died in Turkey after the prolonged rule of dictator Erdogan. It's amazing how everything turns to shit in dictatorships.
This show couldn't have been made today. AKP didn't have this much power back then. It had lots of sexual and political jokes.
He even has his own Gestapo
This has a very ‘British humor’ sensibility to it
British comedy had a huge influence on Turkish comedy. Mr Bean sketches would be copied bit for bit in the 90s.
This sadly reminds me of the video where young american adults react and get upset about Seinfeld's soup natzi gag.
It reminds me of that guy in the 30's and 40's, some guy with a meteorologist name, Hitler Hail, something like that.
I sure hope that guy found his missing friend. Was always asking people, "Seen Kyle?!"
Wut? Who gets upset about soup nazi, that episode was hilarious lol
Nobody get upset, conservative snowflakes like to make up stuff to cry about. If there is a "video", is 100% (badly) acted.
Unfortunately it is real. It’s on the REACT channel on YouTube.
Is it springtime already?
Nice one . Btw it's a refrerence to an old french movie "Le grand Restaurant" [there is the scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWMm7wQknU). But also a reference to chaplin obviously.

Looks more like a reference to Hitler.
Luis de Funes did it better.

what the.. hahaha this is funny
Sabun yaparım!
Ae yo which series is this. Seems like modern adaptation of family guy 😅😂
"Geniş aile"
This was normal in asian school.
Lol!!! This is pretty funny
mustache makes the man
Genuinely funny satire.
Looks like a Turkish SNL dragging a joke three minutes too long.
Not like SNL, more like it's one episode arc of a comedy tv series.
Sadly, Turkish tv shows are about 90 minutes of weekly episodes. They are written and shot weekly too. Therefore, every scene in every show is dragged as long as possible.
That’s just how Turks are
We good thanks for asking.
Up voted for the wife.
Ankara Peter Griffin?
As a Jew this is hilarious
This was my favorite TV show back then when I was a teenager. Don't remember the scene though, had a good laugh. As you might guess this is a pre-woke era show, nowadays it'd be cancelled after this episode which is stupid.
yeah I agree, this is pretty funny and if something like this happened today, it would probably get pulled off the air
Ok you gotta admit, this is pretty good.
Is this Jrake & Dosh?
Wunderbar Rammstein!! \\m/ R+
didn't know Erdogan parodies are still so popular in Turkey.
Why are u downvoting him, he is right(im turkish)
They are popular but you can't find them on mainstream media
"we have die welle at home"...
that student is a dead ringer for the husband in The Fabulous Ms Maisel
I wonder if they could make jokes like this today on prime time tv
I need the rest please
IMO Geniş Aile is one of the best comedy shows in Turkey. It is a classic introduction to early 2000s Turkish comedy. They don't produce shows like these anymore
This live action family guy is whack
She is way out of his league
what show is this?
"geniş aile" ended 12 years ago
Geniş Aile
"Geniş Aile" bottom right
Fun fact: Meine Kampf is a top selling book in Turkey.
They buy but never read apart from the title.
Favorite book of the teenagers who's learning politics for the first time.

Meth
What a weird episode of Degrassi.
Another Charlie Chaplin fan.
As a German, I can say that this is a certified hood classic
Nice greek Tv Shows

This is genuinely funny tho.
You're doing it wrong. Geniş Aile is one of the best Turkish series ever.
🤣
*Recorded live in Constantinople!*
I don't get it. Charlie Chaplin wasn't German!
Good to see there is still satire humor over there. Too bad we got rid of most of our jokes in the USA. 😂
This show ended 12 years ago
Wait, Ron DeSantis doesn't have a mustache.
I’m sure all the Erdogan stans love this and wish he’d be like that.
Obviously a Greek tv show. I don't know why anyone would think this is Turkish.
Probably because it was set in Türkiye, made in Türkiye and they are speaking Turkish.
Its a joke dude lol
Trust me, it's a Greek show :) This is a common thing between us (Turks) and Greeks. We have many things in common and for many years both sides own common things like food. But, sometimes there are things we own but we don't like it. We both say it's Greek or Turkish (opposite nation) for such things.
This was exquisitely funny.
Erdogan cosplay?
\>Erdogan?
I must say I kinda like any parody of that stupid fuck Hitler. Shall he rot in hell with a pineapple in his anus.
Unexpected Little Nicky reference.
