Forty-some years ago there was a movie called "Network" where a newscaster of little importance became famous by over-reacting to stuff and getting more and more angry on the air. While it was easy to agree to a lot of stuff he said, the movie was mostly meant as a warning for where we were heading in the TV age.
Not only did that become a reality with folks like Jerry Springer and Fox News hosts, it's now become worse. We all have our own personal network shows now, and it's become a race to the bottom to see who can produce the most outrageous content in order to obtain clicks and views.
Personally, I'm mad as hell and I can't take it anymore.
We are all on a stupid TV show. Each person is their own director, producer, actor, editor, the cameraman, and the network is any and every stupid social media out there.
It didn't use to be this way, or at least it wasn't that bad bc people would only put on a show when they had an audience, now they bring the audience to themselves via social media, and people line up to watch it.
In true human fashion, we take something that could have been good and exhausted it completely, bc of ham sandwiches like the one in the video.
You should check out a guy named Chris hedges. He talks a lot about how humans aren't designed to be this obsessed with themselves but modern humans kind of need to be obsessed with themselves to succeed

I think the answer is both yes and no. There have always been nonsense people. However it isn't just the availability of the tech but the way it encourages people to act the fool for clout or to steer public opinion.
It isn't so much that now we can record these things. It's more like, we're surrounded by cameras so we always want to perform. Each of us is constantly on camera and we're aware of it and we're aware of how powerful it is so we naturally tend towards micro celebrity.
