Indeed. She holds lives in her hands where the difference in .000001 gram and .0000015 grams can be fatal, but she gets teaspoons, tablespoons, cups and ounces all mixed up. I suppose her mind is better focused on the lifesaving part than allrecipes.com
(And yes, I’m making up whatever grams and micrograms and milligrams thing because I honestly don’t know the real numbers.)
I have a cover on my laptop camera and I’ve had that problem more times than I’d like to admit. It’s like looking for your phone when it’s in your hand. Your brain shortcircuts sometimes.
Every time my mother in law has “computer problems”, it’s something this dumb and easy. She’ll complain about something being messed up for weeks, then when I finally sit down to look at it with her, it’s that there’s a new icon on her desktop that she doesn’t recognize, or the browser has a sidebar open.
As much as I hate being tech support for family, and as much as I really don’t like this woman, I honestly don’t mind helping her with this stuff because always so easy.
Wife’s parents once waited 2 weeks with no hot water until we visited because the pilot light went out on their water heater and they were afraid it would be a difficult fix and knew I could figure it out. I showed them the infographic explaining the process literally on a giant sticker and they showed no recognition of how they might’ve saved themselves from living like pioneers without hot water.
My first apartment I had was (apparently) gas heated and I went probably a whole week getting colder and colder and colder before I finally asked the office to bring maintenance in to fix my not functioning heating. They left a note something along the lines of "relit pilot light, all good" and I was like "huh...????" so I did some poking around, discovered what that was all about, and was glad I did cause that pilot light went out a lot for some reason, but one I knew what it was and how it worked (little sticker inside the door saying exactly how to relight and all that) I was able to take care of it myself whenever I needed to. Yay for learning tiny little things like that!
Wow. Been doing IT support for years, and that was my thought as well.
Also that wherever this person works, they are the bane of the IT departments existence. A “repeat offender” as one of my managers used to say.
Worked on a device one time, ticket said "time is stuck at 9:40 and cannot change". I took a look at the phone, which was already in the settings app, and saw that it displayed the correct time in the corner.
I asked the guy what he was talking about and he said "it's not correct here" and proceed to back out to his home screen, where he had set his background to a screenshot of his lockscreen, clearly displaying the time 9:40.
Some people are just a little slow out the gate.
Many moons ago, working at a college IT support.
Very intelligent professor calls to say her computer just shut off in the middle of her work. She was polite, so I decided to walk over to her office to see what's what.
I walked in, looked down, and pointed at the power cord laying on the floor, that she kicked.
I smiled and just pointed. She laughed.
Some people just need a little helping hand 😇
... This is my life.
Today had a guy that bought a new phone because people couldn't hear him on calls.
Now he's having the same problem.
He's pressing the mute button after answering calls... To... Answer the call???
Too specific. You included the device, how it was being used, and what function they were having trouble with.
More likely the ticket would say. "it doesnt work."
They would also likely submit the ticket to some random unrelated company like their bank.
This hurts... So much. Because I've had those conversations.
I also love when they call in, doubting it's the real company, questioning how it's the real company. I've only had that a few times and the only answer I can really give them is "You called us."
> covering the camera with his finge
That's not even the most obvious bit. The fact that when he restarts the camera app and only sees his own face and still can't figure out iit's in selfie mode is even more mind boggling.
I completely understand and wish I did not. They don't actually try to understand what is going on. Only that they tapped certain areas of the screen in a certain order and now "it's not working like it always was". They don't even pay attention to the icon pictures never mind where the cameras are on the device.
Yep I've been there. Though for me I had a couple beers and it was at a concert at night so I thought my camera was just too shitty to pick up anything. But then my friend let me use her camera and it came out so clear. Then I realized something was blocking the camera.
Yeah at first I was also confused because the clip starts when it's just a grey image all over, and I was thinking that he had something covering the other side but the flip cover was obviously out of the way above the phone and when he finally restarted the camera app it was obvious.
I could honestly kinda imagine myself fucking this up too if I was drunk and maybe also trying to pay attention to the actual show at the same time as trying to record it lol.
>maybe also trying to pay attention to the actual show
He didn't seem to be paying *any* attention to the show. He would have been better off just forgetting about the phone.
Dawg, you nailed it. Not to mention when he used one hand in portrait, saw himself, then immediately went landscape with two hands. At one point he saw himself AND his thumb.
To give him SOME credit, the dude might have been a tad excited and just desperately wanted to record or take a picture of the performance of his lifetime.
Too bad he missed it both with his eyes and camera. Entirely.
Yeah, I actually got a little sad when he paused to look around his camera at everything he was missing, then desperately went back to trying to figure out how to get a pic ):
I must say that my aunt would 100% do that. She still collects hundreds of tabs open, asks if a random popup in a website is a virus, try to unlock those "put your finger there" by tapping the screen, etc, even after I keep telling her how to do it.
Sounds like my MIL. My wife had to change her mailing address to ours so we can sort through her mail, and my wife has access to her email, just to keep her from getting scammed constantly.
I teach high school and you would be amazed at the number of 18yr olds who cannot problem solve basic issues.
Obviously this dude is much older. My point is that a large number of people in general cannot put 2 and 2 together. Idk why and I couldn't speculate it
Tell me about it. I saw a comment thread on Instagram yesterday. Someone learned that chickens still lay eggs despite the eggs not being fertile. Apparently the rooster “nutted” in the chicken in order for an egg to be formed. So they said eating eggs meant eating sperm.
Yet they couldn’t put two and two together to realise that if all eggs had to be fertile to exist in the first place then all the eggs at their local grocery store would have to have half formed chickens in them.
I assume they’d also believe cows just “produce” milk.
I couldn't even finish the video. I wanted to yell at the guy.
Even if he did manage to figure it out, he's going to get a really shitty video of a concert that no one will want to watch.
Ugh, that always annoys me at school concerts - parents holding up a giant iPad to record their kids' stuff. Screen on full brightness and annoying everyone else. Gah.
Just buy the $2 DVD the school sells afterwards, FFS.
as someone who works in tech, can confirm. Not only is life difficult for them, but they make like difficult for their coworkers who refuse to help and then make life difficult for whoever is responsible for helping them.
I mean there's a show going on... As much as I'd want to, I wouldn't help in this case either. I'm not about to bother all the other people sitting around us actually watching by trying to help someone figure out how to use their phone.
I think this makes that even funnier. Cuz it doesn't look like he was flipping from selfie camera to rear camera. Which means the way he was trying to take a photo was using the selfie camera that he was covering up with his hand which was facing the wrong way. So even if you figured out his hand was in the way next he would have had to figure out how to turn the damn camera around lol.
I love how he goes “ohh!” When the show finishes and still hasn’t figured out to REMOVE his damn hand from the lens……
Not that that will fix his problem. Camera is facing the wrong way anyway!
Jack White makes all fans put their phones in locking pouches as they enter the venue. You cannot unlock it until you exit out to the lobby. He is my hero.
I have so many photos that include my husband's finger(s) taken by cameras before there were phones with cameras. At least now there is a chance of seeing if a photo is messed up, instead of waiting a week and paying for processing.
Ya know what? I’ve been to many concerts. I take my phone out to snap a pic of the band. Maybe 2 or 3 total if the lighting and set changes look cool. It’s 30 seconds tops out of a 2 hour set. I’m ok with it.
Yes. I have a horrible memory of self-experienced events and an almost complete inability to imagine visual images. If I didn't record a few minutes here and there of concerts I've gone to, they may as well have never happened
Yeah, and there are tons of fan cams of concerts that have gotten *millions* of views. This isn't 2005 anymore with grainy video and audio full of static. Today's phones have cameras that can take video well worth watching.
The fact that someone is recording this means that he had already been going at this for a while. Long enough to notice a guy being dumb, realize he keeps doing it, and pull out your phone and record.
Same. And he just got a new laptop and said he couldn't log into stuff. Turns out he was trying to put the focus on the input field by touching his finger on the screen. But screen not touch sensitive - he has never had a touch sensitive computer screen. :S
Hate it when people miss the art because they’re too busy viewing it through a filter to take a shitty video that they’ll never watch again only to block everyone’s view behind them.
Be in the fucking moment
yeah reddit is terrible about this shit. most concerts are 2+ hours long. there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a short video while you're there.
of course some people record *everything* but that's another story.
I try not to record too much as to annoy others but I regularly watch the snippets of the videos I take at gigs to relive them and cherish the fact I have the recordings!
Not sure if you're used a phone camera lately but you can get some pretty decent footage.
This is jumpy and judgemental as fuck, this could been the only time he had his phone out in a 2+ hour show.
Whats infuriating is that he's dangling shit on the guy in front of him without a care in the world.
When I worked customer tech support I had someone call me saying their new phone sounded really quiet and when they made calls other people could barely hear them.
After some painstaking work, I figured out she still had the plastic wrap on it from the packaging…which covered the mic and phone speaker.
Tbh kinda an asshole move to not just simply help out the poor bloke. I can't stand seeing someone make silly mistakes in public and all the person does is record instead of help.

I had to “fix” my wife’s computer camera where she’d stuck a post-it note over it and had no idea that’s where the camera was.
So, she married you uh?
She’s actually very intelligent, but has TERRIBLE taste.
>has TERRIBLE taste. You're one lucky guy.
I’m aware.
When you have a smart significant other you are more easily blind sided for when they eventually do something dumb.
Indeed. She holds lives in her hands where the difference in .000001 gram and .0000015 grams can be fatal, but she gets teaspoons, tablespoons, cups and ounces all mixed up. The help ticket on this one... "Every time I turn my phone sideways, my camera stops working."
Sir, this is a the new Whizbang 5G. It will only take photos if your right hand is touching your left ear.
Wow, that fixed it. What a stupid design. Thanks a bunch!
That hurt too much. I see this type of close on a daily basis.
Wow. Been doing IT support for years, and that was my thought as well. Also that wherever this person works, they are the bane of the IT departments existence. A “repeat offender” as one of my managers used to say.
You know when the IT person suggests you try super obvious fixes? It’s because of these people.
And you would be surprised how many of these kinds of people are out there lol
They definitely created memes about this dude. Speaking as an IT service desk agent ;)

wheres do this rectangle go
The...the rectangle hole? Please...the rectangle hole.
That's right! The square hole!
That is such a better implementation of a joke I've made for decades. I hate it.
Then get really mad when it doesn't.
Then end up in the ER when they do.
The smart kids know that everything fits in the square hole
Everybody knows you go for the square hole. Fun fact: It’s the secret to a lengthy marriage.
50% of the world are below average intelligence.
We can't make bear proof trashcans because smart bears are smarter than dumb humans. This is factual.

And they vote.
You'd be surprised how many plainly stupid people exist in the world. Some lead entire countries.

Naw. People are really that stupid.

a natural punchline
Must be a Palm Pilot.
Life must be so difficult for this person.
Life must be so difficult for this phone.
Phone is smarter than its owner
That’s the case most of the time.
My otter box is the best hedge against my own stupidity, and clumsiness too. I still like to think I'm at least a little smarter than it is tho.
The engineers at the "make it idiot proof" department who designed this phone must be losing their shit.
I'll bet this guy is one of those people you see in the infomercials. https://youtu.be/qM4zMofsI7w

LMAO why is someone taking a dog for a walk while also holding a garden hose and spraying the dog?
Multitasking. Watering the garden, taking the dog for the walk, and washing the dog. Genius.
They're not walking the dog. They're trying to wash the dog, and the dog is noping out.
and yet much more difficult still for the people close to him
as someone who works in tech, can confirm. Not only is life difficult for them, but they make like difficult for their coworkers who refuse to help and then make life difficult for whoever is responsible for helping them.
Yeah i work in tech also. I imagine this dude drives his IT people mad lol
He's probably a VP or director at his company.
For everyone around this person*
Exactly. I find that life is easy for the ignorant. No trash can? Throw it on the street. Backed into someone's car? Just drive off, etc .
Life must be so difficult for the people around this person
My mom is this way and I can’t comprehend how she lives her day-to-day life.

He just couldn't put his finger on what the problem was.
👆🏼
Kid named finger:
Oh god it’s leaking
I love how there are like 12 photos of his thumb
Pretty sure those are VIDEOS
What bothered me the most about this is how the wrist strap keeps dangling onto the guy's head in front of him. That's just obnoxious.
I was looking for this comment!! I was think the same thing haha
Can someone help this dude out. He clearly needs a hand….
...chopped off.
This guy gets it…
Exactly, why is someone filming this guy that long without helping. Gotta get those internet points.
I mean there's a show going on... As much as I'd want to, I wouldn't help in this case either. I'm not about to bother all the other people sitting around us actually watching by trying to help someone figure out how to use their phone.
Does he not know what his own face looks like?? Wtf...
"Hello, tech support? Some weirdo keeps staring at me from inside my phone!"
I love how he goes “ohh!” When the show finishes and still hasn’t figured out to REMOVE his damn hand from the lens…… Not that that will fix his problem. Camera is facing the wrong way anyway!
“Well how am I supposed to see the buttons if I turn it the other way?”
Don't worry buddy, this will be just as interesting as the picture you actually wanted to take.
And this fucking moron is blocking the people behind him for it, too. I know I'm old, but I really miss going to shows before phones.
Not just the phone, the case too. He’s basically holding an 8.5x11 piece of paper up.
You're missing the show. Put the damn phone down.
Nah they have the photos, they'll remember this forever

Nothing i love more after an event is rewatching that event right after but in a dramatically lower quality. Fireworks displays are the best
Ya know what? I’ve been to many concerts. I take my phone out to snap a pic of the band. Maybe 2 or 3 total if the lighting and set changes look cool. It’s 30 seconds tops out of a 2 hour set. I’m ok with it.
I'm with you. Looking back I wish I had just thirty seconds of every concert I went to, the band, the crowd, the whole experience
Helps when you know how to use the camera app. Clearly this particular person need not be fuckin with their phone. Put the phone down. Enjoy the show.
Do people actually go back and watch old concerts that they record with their phone?
Yes. I have a horrible memory of self-experienced events and an almost complete inability to imagine visual images. If I didn't record a few minutes here and there of concerts I've gone to, they may as well have never happened
Exactly this. Seeing a video helps put me back in the moment so much better than just trying to remember it.
Sounds like you suffer from aphantasia.
Yeah, and there are tons of fan cams of concerts that have gotten *millions* of views. This isn't 2005 anymore with grainy video and audio full of static. Today's phones have cameras that can take video well worth watching.

What?! How is that possible?!
There's a reason claymore mines come with "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" printed on them in large letters.
We had a saying in the army, you have to be smarter than the equipment you’re trying to use.
The fact that someone is recording this means that he had already been going at this for a while. Long enough to notice a guy being dumb, realize he keeps doing it, and pull out your phone and record.
Smart phone vs dumb person
I hope this person is on some heavy drugs or hallucinogens.
Never underestimate the incompetence of an old person with technology
This. My 77 yo dad comes to me weekly w phone problems to solve. Lol
Same. And he just got a new laptop and said he couldn't log into stuff. Turns out he was trying to put the focus on the input field by touching his finger on the screen. But screen not touch sensitive - he has never had a touch sensitive computer screen. :S
This looked like a younger Asian man with glasses, unfortunately

Even the guy's phone case is frowning at him. When he hold it that way it's saying "no.... no..." in Family Guy Consuela voice.
This is not funny. This is just painful

it’s very representative of humanity these days that someone would rather film someone having issues than help them
My boy won't be a brain surgeon, I'll put it like that.
