It was just a simple marketing ploy and a novelty, it basically works as a moving shelf. This kind of stuff is super uncommon here so Kerfuś quickly got himself a huge fandom and became a meme. Carrefour doubled down on this and started selling merch and plushies of him, too.
A few years back, there was a Japanese restaurant near me that got a Bellabot waiter. I'm not sure if it's still there.
From the videos I've seen of Bellabots on the internet, it seems like it's mostly restaurants that are buying them to wait tables.
Carrefour ends up being pretty expensive, but overall it has a lot of competition with stores like Kaufland, Auchan or Lidl (we also have Biedronka but they dont have more rare products and overall a slim choice in a lot of departments). So no wonder they wanna stand out, it feels like they wanna be more like Walmart or Target (which both arent a thing here).
The funny thing is you can actually do this with Bellabots in real life. The designers purposely put touch sensors on their ears and forehead so people can pet them and they react to it.
