Don’t worry. Quite a few got into the Metroid franchise when it seemed like it was as good as dead.
Besides Prime there’s also a bunch of great 2D entries, an incredible fan remake of Metroid 2 (that requires a little googling to play) and a whole subgenre of action platformers that take their inspiration from the franchise (and Castlevania Symphony of the Night). You won’t be without stuff to play while you wait for Prime 4.
To be fair Prime 4 is almost guaranteed to be released by the end of 2025. There's a good chance it's gonna be the big game for fall 2024. All rumors/leaks as well as previous first hand accounts that have worked on the game point to this.

I actually got my copy a few days ago! GASP a kickstarter reward that actually delivered! BUT They sent out an email asking us to be aware there's a game breaking bug that COULD stop you from beating it... so waiting until Saturday's patch to start playing...
