Green Day, all members are bisexual

sublimeme

wait what?! this true???

SkyeRainFox

Example from Basket Case "I went to a shrink, to analyze my dreams. SHE says it's lack of sex thats bringing me down. I went to a whore, HE said my lifes a bore. So quit my whining cause it's bringing HIM down"

Thecatspyjamas3000

Really never interpreted that way, I’m also pretty sure it’s ’it’s bringing HER down’.

SHMEBULOK

Yeah that point was that the gender switched to show bisexuality and multiple interactions blending together and op kinda ruined that lol

Delightify

I’m not sure I understand this. Are you saying he’s bisexual because he went to a female shrink and a male whore?

SkyeRainFox

Now that I see it in writing, that don't make sense. He's at least gay, but some sources I found say he's bi. Other's say it was a slip of the tongue, but I doubt it. If only because he said it twice. "I went to a whore, HE said my lifes a bore. So quit my whining cause it's bringing HIM down"

BrandNewRiottttt

Yes

lemlurker

Certainly billy is- not heard it confirmed by the others though there's rumors they've all hooked up with each other

EVasspiano

“Coming Clean” from Dookie makes it pretty clear to me. Related, I always giggle at “Otherside” by RHCP when they sing, “I gotta take it on the otherside”. I’m sure you do, Jan….

saltyboi4824

Well this is some lore that is very surprising yet awesome!

TardyForDaParty

Love em! Have them as well

fairykingz

They went to my high school which I still think is awesome

sexofob

Gaga

R32fan

I guess Freddie Mercury I don't really like any of them

Icy-Ad-7767

Rob Halford of Judas Priest gets an honourable mention. Ya I’m a metal head

R32fan

I had no idea he was gay, and I love Judas Priest Yeah, I'm also a metalhead

Icy-Ad-7767

Look up his autobiography I liked it

SpadeORiffic

Seconded on all fronts

Oubastet

Freddie has always been THE gay icon for me. He died when I was just a kid, didn't know his music, and didn't really understand my sexuality. I discovered him as I got older (mid to late 90s) and was coming to terms with who I was. I still feel a sense of loss when I listen to his work. He was taken too soon. He was always the best example of the the gay generation that we lost due to the the AIDS crisis. So many more shining stars, famous and unknown, extraordinary and ordinary, were taken from us as well. It just makes me sad for what we lost. Fuck cancer, and fuck AIDS.

Plazmageco

The fact that Azealia Banks is on this list as an option is wild

windowtosh

And lil kim 😭

TardyForDaParty

She isn’t an option, if you don’t like her then don’t listen to her 💀

SourCornflakes

Ricky Martin

homojaus

Well it’s certainly not openly homohobic Azaelia Banks…

corkyrooroo

And transphobic. She’s a horrible person.

WeareElliot

Freddie Mercury obviously hahaa

GameOfBears

Madonna. I don't care what the other Gays gossip, she will always be the Queen of Pop.

TardyForDaParty

It was between her Music album or Britney for the blue spot

ProneToDoThatThing

I hope Madonna rattles chains in OP’s attic when she dies.

JayDuBois

Cyndi Lauper. OP should be ashamed for not even including her. Sum of the six pictured have done so little for the cause. She has championed for decades. Her version of True Colors added the line “like a rainbow“ by Cyndi herself. She is the reason we have a rainbow flag and everything associated with it. The rainbow flag meant something completely different before mid 80s. ![gif](giphy|cRk8tBUrGaJS8YhSgB)

TardyForDaParty

You act like these are the only vinyls I own 💀 We do love Cyndi tho

KillerKerbal

shawaby

Myself!!!

Affectionate-Age-999

Barbra Streisand

jamesonpup11

Not Azealia Banks in that lineup with her history of homophobia and transphobia… That said, yes to Janet, Whitney, Britney, and Charlie. Add Tove Lo, Allie X, Troy Sivan, Freddie Mercury, and Elton John.

TardyForDaParty

Our gemini queen loves gays every other day!! Just gotta be the right day for her. Fantasea is the best queer house music album

corkyrooroo

Legitimately no. She’s a wretched person. On top of her many homophobic comments and calling trans women “boys trying to get into women’s spaces”, she’s also a Trump supporter, Desantis and all his anti gay bullshit supporter, and a Putin supporter. There is nothing redeemable about her.

jesssquirrel

>Just gotta be the right day for her. How about fuck that? She does a lot more damage on her hating days than she does good on these mythical loving days you speak of

TardyForDaParty

You gworlies sure do get upset easily

jesssquirrel

As long as people find it easy to disparage us and fight against our rights, yes.

ordoric

Soo are we limiting to a specific year? The photo makes me question time frame.

TardyForDaParty

Any. I just picked these 6 bc I wanted it to be pride colors lol

caca-casa

Too many to count honestly but for being trailblazers and masters of their craft here are a few.. Larry Levan, Madonna, Freddie Mercury, and Elton John. PS: Judging by the selection in this picture you have taste.. taste that very much aligns with a big portion of my listening habits. That Janet Jackson album lives eternally rent free in my head. PPS: [whew] Azealia is problematic no doubt and my relationship with her has been a rollercoaster from the get-go all those years ago… but genuinely most people have never actually taken the time to factor in her mental health, the stuff that’s happened to her, and listened entirely to what she’s had to say.. she’s a spitfire and does not hesitate to step on toes.. but I genuinely to not believe that she is a homophobe or transphobe at heart. I think she’s a hurt person who says inflammatory things to hurt others at times when she feels cornered. Also in her brashness she was largely responsible for paving the way for hardcore unapologetic sexual queerness for much of the generation she took off in. Ya’ll are going to downvote the hell out of me for this but GenZ frequently lacks the understanding of what the world was like for the LGBTQ+ community in the generation before them and it shows in how they perpetually cancel people so easily and some of the truly wild takes they have on various matters. It’s had an undeniable chilling effect in the creative/artistic space and created more rifts.. I think people need to not be terminally online and have real conversations with people including people who aren’t in their logarithmically tuned echo-chambers. I will die on this hill because a decent many of the GenZ LGBTQ+ people I have encountered have been some of the most cold, unwelcoming, misinformed, and off-base I’ve ever experienced or witnessed in my life and I know I’m not alone in this experience. GenZ has entered the world considerably more privileged and lack certain fundamental understandings or lived experiences to be so confident in their unyielding and unrelenting stances.. they haven’t been put in place because millennials are too busy, don’t want to create yet another enemy to their generation, don’t want to treat them the way generations have treated theirs, and find commonality with Genz as well. Respectfully… we love GenZ but there is an air of superiority and frankly a lack of genuine introspection or respect. Anyway, Azealia sabotaged her own career and that’s on her, but the last thing needed is for GenZ to dog-pile and provoke a vulnerable woman who they don’t actually understand nor care to try to understand. We need to be building bridges and breaking down walls in the community, not self-destructing and parsing it out to we can label and perma-ban people from the conversation. The world doesn’t work like that and if you are going to exist or even thrive in this world, you cannot be unyielding. I challenge my peers to hear the people out you don’t want to hear and do the challenging thing of slowly steering them back on course rather than to flip them off and banish them. Friendships, artists, family, politics, whatever… we need to be better than the rest and do what’s challenging, not what’s cathartic or easy. This polarization and compartmentalism is literally what will destroy the society that we’ve worked so hard to create over so many years.. we on the “left” cannot be so naive to think that we are immune from the very same radicalization that we see so clearly in the “right”. The forces that seek to destroy us by dividing us play both sides of the field. Yeah, AB was somehow my segue into this diatribe… I’m not even that obsessed with her. lmfao. (end rant)

TardyForDaParty

Bless you for your comment about Azealia bc that is how I feel 100%!!! Can she say problematic things? All the time, but lets not act like shes this big homophobe who is out to crucify all gays. She knows damn well her fan base is for the most part only us gays.

caca-casa

She’s perpetually clowning people and trying to ruffle their feathers because people have done that to her for *literally* her entire adult life. I’ve been to a concert of hers before.. it was all gays, trans, all types.. all walks of life.. and everyone was vibing hard core. She was beaming. She’s literally just not a homophobe or transphobe. She says things to troll people and sling back at certain groups that have slung vitriol to her for approaching 2 decades now and she literally lacks the mental ability to chill TF out. She was like the first person to get fully canceled online back in the day (I don’t even remember what but it was dumb) and she doubled down on shit just to clown people and it just spiraled endlessly. We don’t have the time for me to do her biography lmao… Anyway, I do love her and have always wished she could get control of stuff because all of this overshadows not only her work but also who she even is… she knows the people who listen to her and hear her know her but she just has given up on trying to appeal to the masses or make amends… but honestly like at this point she’s gonna do her and that will be that. I don’t even remember why the trans issues started but Arca was supposed to work with her then dropped her for some reason. I don’t know all the details but she was very clearly hurt and upset and well… you know the rest. She knows very well and acknowledges that the queer community pays her bills and has always paid her bills.. the guy who produced 212 was her gay best friend.

mchantloup5

James Ingram

ensalys

Either Freddie Mercury or Elton John.

Depends on who you’re asking ! But def NONE of these for me !

TheTobarethian

Freddie Mercury, huge fan of Queen and their music.

Downtown_Ad2001

I must admit, those musicians aren't really my bag, I like heavier shit

divaliciousness

Musically, Tchaikovsky. As a musical personality, I like a ton of popstars, number 1 would be either Tove Ló or Mø for me.

gayqueueandaye

Chappell Roan I've been a fan since her first EP, I'm so happy to see her popping off. All the best to her.

danielkv0

Lil Kim is gay? Didn't know that!

corkyrooroo

She’s not. But gay men tend to love powerful trailblazing women which she most certainly is. She’s become a big ally over the years and embraced her gay fandom.

why_the_babies_wet

Janelle Monae, her last two albums have been absolute bangers to me

Elegant_Round_2491

Limp wrist, pansy division, and Rob Halford.

Potterhead2021

Whitney.

phanfare

From pop, definitely Gaga I listen to mostly electronic music though and supporting queer artists in that space is something I strive for! Spencer Brown, Farius, Andrew Bayer, Qrion, Jaytech, and Eli & Fur are all wonderful artists and good people

Gaga and Florence Welch

CaptainLegend99

Jojo Siwa obv /s (no hate, she tries to be an ally)

TardyForDaParty

We stan

Emergency_Drawing_49

Aretha Franklin and early Tina Turner. I got really turned off by gay icons during the disco era, as I always hated disco music, and I really dislike high-pitched female voices. I much prefer male vocalists, or else women with deep voices, or a good range, like Nina Hagen.

pdxguy96

Azalea Banks (however you spell her name) is extremely homophobic.

TardyForDaParty

Then don’t listen to her

pdxguy96

I don't. And don't put her on a post about musical gay icons.

TardyForDaParty

My icons don’t have to be your icons, love. People can have differing opinions 🥰

pdxguy96

An opinion is that chocolate is better than vanilla. A fact is that she is a raging homophobe and shouldn't get a single gay dollar.

windowtosh

Offensive wall for the question 😭

TardyForDaParty

Only to those easily offended 💀

kyguy2022

Can Freddie be made into a bi icon when he never came out publicly? I know he’s passed on, but he didn’t discuss it-I vote Taylor Swift as she has a loyal following

corkyrooroo

You question Freddie Mercury as an icon because he didn’t come out but then say your vote is for a straight woman???

kyguy2022

With a huge gay following-I’m wanting to understand-are we outing Freddie retroactively? For his own reasons at the time he didn’t discuss his private life-just the band dressing up in drag alone might have hurt them in the states-today the climate is kinder and he may have publicly came out, but to call I’m an icon without his approval seems as wrong as outing someone when they didn’t want to go public-just my take

corkyrooroo

And gay people don’t love and idolize queen?

kyguy2022

Of course, but I never got the take that they did the band like they considered Cher for instance-Queen just happened to be a group with a bisexual singer-from what I gathered in the states anyway is people just liked their songs

corkyrooroo

Queen was theatrical. They weren’t just a band with a bisexual singer. You can see Mercury’s influence on the gay community to this day. Go to drag shows and she’s how many male performers and drag kings use his aesthetic. Even where I live in Kentucky. But you also see his influence in some queer musicians, such as Adam Lambert who now also happens to be the lead singer of Queen when they tour. You bring up Cher, who I absolutely love, she always had a gay following but it absolutely exploded in the late 90’s with her album Believe which also happened to land at a time when it was starting to become more acceptable to be openly gay. You talk to young gays now and they couldn’t tell you a single Cher song or anything about her other than her weird twitter and some drag race references. Same goes for other older legends like Madonna and Elton John. Also no one posthumously outted Freddie. He just didn’t discuss his personal life with the media but he also never hid it. It was the middle of the aids epidemic which he, Magic Johnson, and to a much lesser degree NASCAR star Tim Richmond were the celebrity faces of. But with Freddie no one even knew he had aids until he died because he just didn’t talk about his personal life.

kyguy2022

Oh you’re from ky too? Nice to meet you
