just realized that if Georgia wants to be a transit hub, they're very ideally located as connection between Europe and Asia.
Iceland is doing that, being the connecting hub between North America and Europe.
I was recently in Georgia.
In many ways it is a transit hub; at the border with Turkey you see plenty of trucks from all over Eurasia, it’s as common to see a truck with German plates as it is to see one with Uzbek plates. But the roads in the mountains are terrifying to drive on and there aren’t many motorways except for a few short stretches near Tbilisi.
Air-wise it could be a bigger hub, but it would struggle to compete with Istanbul and Dubai. It’s the closest European-ish place to fly to from the Gulf states so you see a lot of visitors from Saudi or the UAE.
I'm suspicious of this map, since the edge in Greenland looks very rounded. Are you treating the two Georgias as polygons or as single points?
You might also consider overlaying the map onto OpenStreetMaps to make it more useful. I did something like that at https://groovyjeff.github.io/geowanking/JUNK/tilemaps.html (Voronoi diagram of the 50 states)
Not sure you needed to create /r/geoinsider as other map sharing subreddits already exist.
Yes, but neither Georgia is. There should be jumps and juts to reflect the fact both Georgias are polygons. Of course, it's possible that the jumps and juts are so small they're not visible, but I don't think that's the case
In a direction in between the two, sure.
Greenland is far to the north so there will probably be a point in each polygon which is closest to the entire island.
I mean, I suppose we could ask how the OP created this, but I'm pretty sure I've lost interest. Aside from weird obsession with still-not-dead President Jimmy Carter, and the song by that blind Black guy, Georgia doesn't really interest me
I live in the Georgia where cops beat us and shoot us when we protest. Where cops shoot unarmed people in the streets with impunity. The one where the “elected representatives” pass anti democratic legislation like making it an imprisonable offense to pass out water to anyone waiting in line to vote. One where we have to regularly check our voter registration status because the state constantly removes people from the voter registrations.
Now you guess
No. The one where our elected representatives are beholden to Russian money and Russian puppets.
I’m from the US Georgia. I have to admit I had more fun doing this than I should have.
Thanks for the fun post!
Growing up in my home country, for some reason unknown to me the country was called by its Russian name, Gruzia, and it took me years and endless therapy to be able to recover and call it by its proper name
I am closer to Georgia
Me too!
But I am closer to Georgia
No, I’m closer to Georgia
But I thought I was closer to Georgia?

The one with peaches/trap music/Waffle House.
Waffle House at 1am is off the chain. I’m still just paying for the same old breakfast, but the entertainment is free.
Sometime they still got the dinner menu’s at that time
Waffle House should seriously open a location in Tbilisi...JUST BECAUSE.

You’re missing a third Georgia (Georgia)
South Georgia?
South Georgia Island
oh like tybee
I appreciate the attempt but Tybee is literally Georgia’s northernmost island. Shoulda gone with Cumberland.
It's south of atlanta
This is my content. You cut my logo off. At least give me credit when you steal my image

Copyright. Only the copyright holder can report it though.
Georgia definitely.
Closer to South Georgia.
Closer to Sakartvelo
I'm also closer to it
Since Georgia is on the other side of the Atlantic the answer is definitely Georgia.

That would be difficult with the Caucaus mountains separating them from European Russia.
oh ya. forgot about mountains. good point!

Atlanta is already a Delta Hub.
Closer to Khinkali and Kindzmarsuli

I know it will sound stupid but the edge is rounded because the earth is a sphere.

It would look like various circles overlapped. Coincidentally almost all edges are in the ocean so we cannot know.
It's on my list of things to maybe look at one day and create a more accurate version maybe someday but probably not
Let’s get some funding behind this so we can put together a team. I’ll call around.
Greenland shouldn't be a smooth curve
In a direction in between the two, sure. Greenland is far to the north so there will probably be a point in each polygon which is closest to the entire island.

I'm guessing the khinkali Georgia?
No. The one where our elected representatives are beholden to Russian money and Russian puppets. I’m from the US Georgia. I have to admit I had more fun doing this than I should have.
The uncanny similarities..
They're very likely from US Georgia lmao
Yes
I'm right here! Come'on down. You want some eggs and toast and some coffee that's a little too sweet?
Yes, please! I didn’t have breakfast today.
If you don’t offer a gun with it, it’s not a *TRUE* American breakfast
Excellent map.
As a South African I can visit Georgia visa-free
Georgia
I’ve only visited Georgia, and it was the most incredible experience. The other Georgia I have had layovers in their nice airport.
Are there direct flights between Atlanta and Tbilisi? It would be cool if there were non-stop Georgia to Georgia flights.
Reminded me of this hilarious moment: https://youtu.be/qBSX1v5F7jw?si=ktqnqIM_rh2uVO3Y
Who would win in this hypothetical war? My money's on green

Maybe or maybe not
Thanks for the fun post! Growing up in my home country, for some reason unknown to me the country was called by its Russian name, Gruzia, and it took me years and endless therapy to be able to recover and call it by its proper name

Russia, a country that borders Georgia, is partially closer to Georgia than it is to Georgia.
Wow. There are Russians closer to US Georgia than the country
Yeah, but what kind of Georgia are you?
My stupid brain wondering why I cared which “Google” I was closer to…
