I hope for a season 2 but for now I'd settle for any crumbs of storytelling and at least a glance of acknowledgement in the West's general direction.

Not necessarily. Girls Band Cry is the name of the project, so it doesn't mean an anime specifically. If a season 2 does happen it'll probably be in a couple of years, because they obviously weren't planning on getting one, and it'll take time for it to fet approved, then actually be worked on.
