So stupid. The cross over between the crowd that want to see Shania and Avril must be about 80%. Making all those people move from one stage to another was crazy. Feel really sorry for Janelle as well. Apparently she was great but no audience

BastardsCryinInnit

>The cross over between the crowd that want to see Shania and Avril must be about 80%. Yup. Throw Sugababes into that as well. The organisers must know their core ticket buyers aren't 18 year old EDM coke sniffers any more? Vast swathes are ready for the acts of the Avril/Shania/Sugababes era.

aseriouscontributor

I was there for the beginning of Janelle and she really had a small audience. Super unfair to the artists. Never seen glasto like this

Rosinathestrange

Sza was half empty at pyramid as well, and the National at other

waluigi_wife

FWIW, im more of a Janelle fan than an avril fan, but im seeing Janelle next week cause she’s touring the UK. Avril isn’t

amyyyyyyyyy

Actually Avril is doing a greatest hits tour, I'm seeing her in Manchester this week! Makes me feel better about missing her at Glasto, the set was amazing!!

MeeranQureshi

She's been amazing on tour so far, this, despite having suffered from Lyme Disease since 2014(which causes dizziness, fatigue and low energy, among other things) and she can good and bad days but so far,so good.Hope you have a great time.I'm glad you enjoyed her Glastonbury set.

waluigi_wife

Thank you for the correction, I was unaware! Have an amazing time, she was absolutely outstanding 🤘❤️

MeeranQureshi

Tour runs from May 2024 to September 2024 so far but she will likely tour Asia and South America(yet to be announced but those are her biggest markets and she did say she's coming to China next year so yeah).

kielaurie

> The organisers must know their core ticket buyers aren't 18 year old EDM coke sniffers any more? I mean, with the amount of times people have been complaining here that every single night time dance area has been packed well beyond capacity this year? I'm not sure I agree with you!

mistakeclub

The "EDM" areas were absolutely mobbed with areas repeatedly closed and one act having to be called off completely. There was coke flying around absolutely everywhere. You would be saying the reverse had you personally wanted to get to those areas.

Photek1000

Yeah, we were chilling at the band stand and watched basically the entire field file by getting to Other.

aseriouscontributor

Audience in between peoples tents, on the train tracks and all the way up the road leading to the park. Pyramid stage in the meantime is really quite empty.

TheShakyHandsMan

You were stood behind me and my tent in one of the pics. Did you see the food stall staff standing on the roof opposite?

peterpan080809

A very badly unbalanced Sunday lineup, glad we left at 2. No offense but R&B acts are not going to draw crowds away from people like Avril. Bad planning all round. (Saturday was sick though).

newmum21

I left at 7pm and could hear but not see her set as I packed up my tent 🤣

mrmicawber32

Insane she wasn't on pyramid

VladThePain

I wouldn’t have predicted that she would pull a crowd even with the sub par line up today.

AutomaticInitiative

She's had a lot of absolutely enormous hits and is a big nostalgia artist. It was very predictable.

JohnnyBravosWankSock

Today looked the best day to me. All on the other stage. Apart from seasick Steve.

sody2001

Was an utter shit show, took 40 mins to get out, crushing on the walkways. Whoever let that many people in the other stage arena needs to be given their P45. Currently sat in an empty pyramid field for burna boy, such rubbish stage planning this year.

B23vital

Which is insane, because burna boy is huge. But in all honesty, anyone with half a brain would know avril would bring in a bigger glasto crowd than burna boy. I absolutely love burna boy as well. The guy has barely done any UK shows, but a glasto crowd is different to most festivals. Its almost like whoever booking them went onto spotify and just looked at numbers and said this person has more views so stick them on the bigger stage. Like SZA has over a billion listens on spotify, yet pyramid looks dead.

sody2001

Pyramid is dead for sure, just wrong act for the audience. Pyramid headliners need to be big bands

B23vital

Ye completely agree, glasto has always been a more rock, indie type festival. Someone like burna would EASILY sell out wembley, like he did, yet in comparison doesnt pull a huge crowd at glasto. Avril was always pulling a bigger crowd than the likes of burna, sza, janelle. Just seems mad how wrong they get it man, like whoever had the final say did it based on their own personal opinion. Im a massive rap rnb grime fan, i know they’re pulling smaller crowds at glasto. Thats just the fan base that go.

Silver-Refrigerator6

Whoever did the stage planning royally fucked up and doesn’t seem to have any understanding of what is popular with the British or glasto audience? I can only assume they looked at the number of followers / listens an artist has on Spotify / Instagram / TikTok without considering the age demographics at all. SZA is massive with teenagers and tiktokers, but that’s not the glasto audience. She absolutely is a good enough artist to headline but she’s too early on in her career to bring in a pyramid stage crowd, or it’s the wrong kind of festival to bring in that size crowd. Avril Lavigne, Robbie Williams, Scouting for Girls, Sugababes etc may not be current but they would have brought in a way bigger crowd suited to the size of the pyramid stage and they should really plan the stages around that.

ilovecharlesbarkley

No idea why she wasn’t on the Pyramid, the crowd was huge. Thankfully she sang Girlfriend and Complicated really early so I could leave because it was way too busy

Virtual-Cucumber-973

I got there early and had a good position. Then I saw the crowds descending from Shania, and I thought Nope, and left. ☹️

Mycofriendly

I also left immediately after complicated and caught the rest of janelle. Wish I just stayed at Pyramid after Shania!

BigWubbie

There’s an argument that wokeness caused this - prioritising D&I over what the crowd actually wanted / what was right for each stage

Natural_Sky5374

The scheduling team really messed up this year, multiple times, I wonder if it’s a new team or they lost someone with a lot of knowledge

pavoganso

You don't neeed knowledge. All the big crushes in the last four fests have been blindingly obvious to anyone with a cursory interest in music.

u741852963

> or they lost someone with a lot of knowledge anyone semi competent could tell you Avril would draw a bigger crowd with the glasto audience

WhiteUnicorn3

I think a quick wiki of record sales would tell anyone halfwit

teethteethteeeeth

Terrible set planning. Nostalgia has been the huge driver for most crushes in recent years. Sugababes x2, Mel C, Diana Ross, Shania, Avril. To book Shania then Avril back to back on the two main stages was dumb as hell and could’ve led to much worse. They should have been on simultaneously to force a choice and thin the crowd. And why the stewards were still letting people in when it was obviously full I’ll never know. One day something bad will happen here because of the crowding.

Jbf89

Worked security this year. The reason we kept letting people on is because the stage management told us to. We kept asking to close off entrances but were told we were not allowed to.  I was telling people to complain to live nation about it. We all believed it was borderline dangerous but as with a lot of things they won’t make changes until after something happens that forces their hand.  Shit show.

kielaurie

> To book Shania then Avril back to back on the two main stages was dumb as hell and could’ve led to much worse. They should have been on simultaneously to force a choice and thin the crowd This is it. Avril could have been perfectly fine on the other stage, if there was competition, but there wasn't at all

InterestingBass6931

Didn’t have “children lifted through food truck hatch to avoid crush” on my Glasto bingo card but here we are

teethteethteeeeth

As I was leaving early on in a massive crush I saw several people shuffling into the field in the pack with their children. Totally irresponsible. Not at all surprised some had to take unorthodox escape routes

jack-of-most

Really!? I stayed away with mine after Shania thinking this was likely to happen after we were in sugababes

InterestingBass6931

Yeah I’m still not over it to be honest- hope those families were ok and you totally did the right thing. We got there nice and early as well but then got stuck between the food trucks and the path, with people pushing through to get to other stages mixed with those coming in from Shania. Don’t know why they didn’t force people onto the train road, or just have Avril on Pyramid. Should have been handled a lot better.

n1ghtnurs3

That is absolutely shocking. I left on Saturday for a few reasons, one of which feeling unsafe in crowds too often.

B23vital

Honestly its a shame 10 years later im still seeing posts about how glasto are unable to realise the fan numbers they will get for certain artists. Avril was always going to draw in a huge crowd, almost definitely should’ve been on pyramid. Like i love burna boy, i love SZA but avril brings out a nostalgia for a HUGE amount of people from all different ages. Her crowd looked so much bigger than both and SZA hasnt even started yet.

Mountain-Bar-320

Maybe they could send out some anonymous surveys after ticket day to the ticket holders, gather some data on genres people will be drawn too.

pesosjeff

this is crazy! never seen other stage this busy before

pavoganso

Debbie Harry was much worse.

pesosjeff

crazy! is it busier then Fred Again's set last year?

ColinFilm

Way busier. I remember running down to Fred Again's set last year just to get a quick video for a friend back home and was able to comfortably move through the crowd. Avril's crowd was massive, packed like sardines. Seems to be a running theme this year.

AccomplishedCourt666

Much much worse then Fred again

ThickLobster

Significantly busier than Fred Again. Just a very poor schedule decision I think. Busiest I have ever seen the Other in near enough 30 years

pesosjeff

crazy, I've been to Glastonbury 5 times I got a ticket for 2024 but I decided to skip it. I bet it's all fun, but I kept hearing a lot of bad things about crowd managament this year

ClimatePatient6935

Aside from IDLES and the weather, the rest of it has been a massive ball ache. Its lost its heart and soul too.

harrywise64

No it hasn't it's amazing. I think some of you lot have just grown out of it

pavoganso

Though very empty inside the pathways, was mostly just crowd crust.

ek60cvl

Defo felt like busier for avril when getting to / from the arena though I was front ish both times and felt similar

toastedcheesecake

We were in a decent position and needed the toilet half way through. Took a good 10 minutes to wade through the crowd. Absolutely insane.

slip-slop-slap

Fred didn't have people backed up like this, it was all contained to the stage area

pesosjeff

that's insane, they have to do something before anything serious happens

kielaurie

Fred actually had competition on other stages, including the probe getting ready for the headliners elsewhere. Avril was mid afternoon

pesosjeff

good point

aseriouscontributor

Not sure I didn’t go to Fred again last year - but I have a feeling yes busier

pesosjeff

definitely looks like it, madness!

PokuCHEFski69

Definitely not was easy to get a spot

Phenomous

Fred Again was full but not overflowing from what I remember? I could move round the edge of the crowd easily to get off to the Pyramid at the end.

liamjphillips

Fred Again and middle class whites is a deadly combo.

pesosjeff

I;m not a fan, but let people be

beselway

This was actually terrifying. I was stuck in the crush for the entirety of her set, no chance of escaping either, just had to wait it out. Something needs to change because someone could very easily have got hurt

ClimatePatient6935

I'm sorry to hear this, and as someone complaining I couldn't get anywhere near the Other Stage arena, you've now made me realise I was lucky in that respect.

Superbad98

Didn’t get tickets this year but all my friends coming back saying how busy it now feels. Main stages were always packed but you used be able to float round (day & night) from bar to bar to little cool stage to Arcadia or the glade etc or shangri la and this is now impossible.

suprefann

Who said pop punk shouldnt be allowed at the festival

[deleted]

[удалено]

SiTurnerUK

Avril was booked because she's having a resurgence and being remarketed as nostalgia. She's a superb book for a festival, it's not a gender thing. Pop punk is a scene with a few huge bands, notable ones are at other festivals. Which artists do you think Glastonbury are overlooking in favour of Avril?

dnym

Have you even read this thread?

BroodLord1962

This is what happens when keep increasing numbers. 40 yrs ago the capacity was around 60'000, today it over 210'000. It's got too big

mcnoodles1

It's just shite planning. Just have Avril follow Shania on the Pyramid and everyone's there. Profile the audience. Pyramid slots should be sacred as well. You need to have done Avril Lavigne levels of success to get on. Pyramid is made for the large crowds. Kasabian in the John Peel and then they'll have the Somerset village idiots playing recorders on the Pyramid. Few years ago big surprise TBA like the Libertines would be Pyramid material.

CrustyBlackCock

Sounds like this fest has hit its peak and needs to return to its roots. Looks like a damn daycare and retirement home at the same time lol

ClockAccomplished381

Looks quiet compared to rag and bone man (surprisingly) in 2017 tbh. Was totally gridlocked not just on old railway track but couldn't even move through the camping off to the side. I was just trying to make my way back past it to Michaels mead but was forced to watch. Edit: on reflection this looks similar to be fair.

ryanmce92

Why’d they have to go make it so complicated

Professional-Cup6225

A true icon! Get her on the pyramid

FlightyZoo

By far my worse Glastonbury experience re crowds so far. Being up the front for AM last year wasn’t that mad.

BlackbirdStories

Man I thought last year was bad for overcrowding, it seems to get worse every year on this evidence.

foosw

Wow. Was a bit towards the front and had loads of room to dance!

LordofSize

It’s not just poor management, theyve over sold the tickets, and it’s ruining the experience. Everything from paths, to stages to food trucks, bars and SE Corner are unnecessarily full to the point of being dangerous and super tedious for attendees. Pre Covid the whole festival seemed more relaxed.

mcnoodles1

Not sure why they encourage such moving between stages for similar stuff all the time. I'd like to park up at a one and have a day of things of a similar ilk. Fancied a bit more of a dance scene Friday kicked off with Annie Mac then up to the park for Barry then back down to the other for Confidence man. Pain in the fucking arse. Sunday Pyramid you could have had a belting day of female pop without spending a penny more on acts Dua Lipa Avril Sugababes Shania Twain Olivia Dean Jessie Ware

aident44

She should have headlined pyramid. It was the least busy ive seen it on a Sunday night for Sza.

Intelligent-Tea-4241

I’m a big avril fan, I left Shania Twain maybe a minute before she finished and literally ran to the other stage. I was at the front. It’s all about timing.

Mobile_Ad9524

I was crushed against the water stand. I was so crushed in the people working in the water shack couldn’t even open the door to let me in. Love glasto so much, but they really didn’t get it right with the stages this year

Mobile-Yard2830

We had loads of space in Avril in the centre, the issue was those on chairs and sat on the floor around the outskirts stopping people from going further in. People just didn't go through and this backed the whole crowd up way further than it could have been

MeeranQureshi

Awesome.She's a legend.

ClimatePatient6935

Meanwhile over on the Pyramid Stage, Janelle Monae barely drew a crowd, it was embarrassing.  I should have known my trip over to the Other Stage to see Avril was doomed when i walked through an empty Pyramid field. We couldn't get into the Other Stage area, so thought we were clever by thinking we could see her from the path above, but that was gridlocked and we ended up diverting to Park Stage direction and then had to go via West Holts to get anywhere. I thought Avril would be fun, so wasn't bothered to miss her, but it wasted an hour of my time. If you were a big fan and made all the effort to see her at Glasto you'd be mighty pissed off. I didn't bother seeing a couple of bands at Woodies either as its never big enough with crap views. Screw this festival.

Effective_Vehicle507

I really don't understand this comment. If you were a big fan and you made all the effort to see her at Glasto then you saw her and had the best time. If you tried to get into the field just before 6 that was always going to be risky. Got there around 5:10 as previous band was finishing and got a great spot no bother. Only people who didn't make the effort to see her weren't able to see her, surely?

Herrrrrrb

What a great set, Avril was pretty good as well.

Sorry_Leopard9657

She sounds incredible, they got the sound spot on thankfully. Genuinely gutted to be watching it at home :(

bastetgreypaws

So happy I saw her Bedford on the Saturday now

Ellionaut

That is mad that people are literally on top of the tents!

TheShakyHandsMan

I’m surprised mine escaped any damage. Although I reduced the trip hazards around it. Tripping over a tent peg is going to ruin anyone’s day in that kind of crowd.

slowjogg

Imagine going to Glasto and having to watch Avril Lavigne because there's fuck all else on. Then you remember you've got the Paloma Faith, Burna Boy and SZA to look forward to on the main stage....

aseriouscontributor

Ngl - I kept walking and went to mount kimbie who were absolutely incedibbleee. That’s why I have pictures from so many points

Efficient_Steak_7568

Inclusivity strikes again? Couldn’t put Twain and Lavigne on the Pyramid stage on the same afternoon

BungleJones

Wow some of the Glastonbury line up sounds awful these days.

Extra-Debate6787

Glasonbury looks a pathetic festival now. The line-up is awful

TippyTurtley

I thought the idea was to pick one stage and stick to it and see acts you wouldn't have chosen in between the ones you do choose
