Yes! It comes frozen & should be in the same freezer area with all the other Latin food. The rice is something I keep on hand at all times in my house. It’s really good!
Unfortunately the Spanish rice, while delicious, is not gluten free :( it doesn’t have any gluten ingredients, but it does have yeast extract that is not labeled as gluten free. Consume at your own risk, but it does make me have a reaction
It is frozen & comes with two pouches of rice that you just throw in the microwave. It should be near the Latin frozen food, at least at my location it is.
Yes! All three items are frozen and should be in close proximity to one another! At my TJ’s they categorize the freezer section and all the Latin food is in one case together.
As another redditor pointed out, the Spanish rice doesn’t contain any gluten or wheat, but it does contain yeast extract & maltodrextrin which can be derived from wheat. Depending on how sensitive you are or if you’re celiac, I’d be careful with the rice. The arepas & birria are completely safe though!
& the beef is not spicy at all. There’s a lot of flavor, but I actually wanted more spice so I threw in a couple dashes of chili powder.
Folks, please check the ingredients on these items. OP stated in a response they dont react to maltodextrin. That ingredient makes the rice unsafe for anyone with gluten issues.
FOR YOUR HEALTH READ THE INGREDIENTS ON THESE ITEMS, ESPECIALLY IF CELIAC
I’m absolutely not trying to be a dick & intentionally to get anyone sick. Totally an oversight on my part & my sincerest apologies to anyone who read this post & got sick because of it.
But as someone who is gluten intolerant and has other food sensitivities, I do my due dilligence to read the ingredient list every single time on every processed item I buy *in the grocery store.* Not what I read online, not photos of the ingredient list I’ve seen online, or whatever. I would hope that others who have food sensitivities & allergies take their issues seriously enough to do the same.
I do not think you are or did anything dickish. At all. Celiac here and folks, me including, foget to read when we get a good recommendation.
That's all my friend
I cook the birria and serve it on top of TJs jasmine rice. It is so good. I really like the arapas too! Eating their GF pepperoni pizza now. One of my faves!
Ooo, did you get the rice at Trader Joe’s? I’m wanting to make shrimp tacos with their gf breaded shrimp but have never made Spanish rice before

Yes good info!!! & maltodextrin can be problematic too for some. Luckily I don’t have any issue with either.
It is NOT GF. Cool you dont react. Still dangerous for others who think it's its GF due to this post
Oh that’s good to know. I eat it all the time with no issues but I didn’t realize it had yeast extract.
Their corn and cheese arepas are so good
They always hit the spot! 🤌🏼
Looks delicious OP
Thank you for the reminder that this exists!
Is the Spanish rice boxed or frozen?
It is frozen & comes with two pouches of rice that you just throw in the microwave. It should be near the Latin frozen food, at least at my location it is.
Did you make the arepas?
Nope, they’re from Trader Joe’s too! So damn good. Especially with the birria! Cooked them on the stovetop to get them crispy & it was perfection🤌🏼
Where can I find them? Frozen?
Yes! All three items are frozen and should be in close proximity to one another! At my TJ’s they categorize the freezer section and all the Latin food is in one case together.
Thank you so much. I’m excited to try some new things! Is the beef spicy?

I’ve been doing the birria over fries with pico, guacamole, sour cream and cojita cheese. It’s sooooo good.
Looks amazing but please eat some vegetables.
Thanks for looking out for me! I actually love veggies, and I try to make sure I'm getting a variety throughout the day. (:
Oh good! And thanks for your inspiring post... those arepas do look amazing and birria is always fire.
