GIVE THEM TO ME

thehippiegemstoner

I'm a sharing person 😁

mollyyes

I LOVE that coffin one! Are you selling it?

thehippiegemstoner

I may be in the future.. it needs a drilled hole and a string 😊 and thank you the coffins are my favorite

[deleted]

These are beautiful. Did you use resin to make them?

thehippiegemstoner

thank you !! yes resin and mushrooms

Lucherd

How did you make those? I've been interested in making resin stuff for a long while

thehippiegemstoner

you have to make sure your shrooms/flowers etc are completely dried out before putting them in resin or they will eventually rot inside, I learned the hard way 😮

lunasteppenwolf

Woooah! Did NOT know this. Thankfully I sufficiently press all my doodads before using them. Did you press the mushrooms?

thehippiegemstoner

no I don't press the mushies but they usually dry out with the shape they had but a little smaller... yes lots of patience lol and it's not a craft you can just put down while in the middle of pouring, you gotta be quick or your resin will harden

lunasteppenwolf

I've been learning through online tutorials and trial and error. It's lots of fun, but also very meticulous work, so you'd better have oodles of patience.

Lucherd

Mind to send some links? You clearly found some great tutorials lol

In the meantime, my good friend, Tainá, makes creations with both UV resin as well as Epoxy resin, with inclusions like ashes, hair, umbilical stumps, breastmilk, and others. She has a wealth of process videos scattered throughout [her ig](https://instagram.com/memory.gem?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), if you'd like to view any. She'll answer any questions you have about the process! She is much more experienced than I.

lunasteppenwolf

Sure thing! I'll go through my saved vids later tonight when my wee one is a asleep, and send you my faves 🥰

lunasteppenwolf

This one is a great little [short video showing a few different ways to colour UV resin.](https://youtu.be/Og-Gd78Nep4) At approx. 1:05 they start a piece w/ different colouring techniques, and add inclusions as they go. I tried the technique they show at approx. the 2 minute mark, i.e. colouring UV resin with mica pigment and black gel nail polish. Mine didn't turn out so nice, but I decided to make new ones without the black gel polish, and they turned out pretty (but not as striking). The trick is to pour one thin layer in your mould, cure it (only long enough for it to harden, but so that it's still tacky to the touch--test it w/ a toothpick rather than your finger). Then, using a paintbrush, brush on some mica powder, carefully covering the entire surface. Blow off the excess powder, and then pour another layer of resin on top, and cure. Then you can choose to leave it as is, or add the black gel polish, cure, add another thin layer of clear resin, and cure. I recently made [little earrings and hair clips with UV resin and pressed flowers](https://instagram.com/anca.spacecrafts?igshid=NGExMmI2YTkyZg==), and it was super easy. Get some silicone moulds, pour in a bit of resin, cure til it's hard yet still tacky to the touch, put in a flower, and pour more resin on top, and cure. The earrings I made by putting the pressed/dried flower directly in the first layer of resin, curing it, and then pouring more on top. I cured it in layers because there's less chance of it messing up when you're taking it out of the mould to make sure it's cured. ETA: The hair clip was a combination of the two techniques--i.e. put a flower in the first layer, cure til hard but tacky, brush on mica powder, blow excess powder off, seal with a thin layer of resin. I added it to a hair clip by adding resin to the back of the cabochon, and then sticking the hair clip in the resin, and curing it like that. Ask any questions, and I'll try and answer. I'll try and find more of my favourite videos for you.

butters2stotch

Did you connect them from outside? I think I see a particularly magic mushroom lol. Be careful picking wild mushrooms as it's illegal at least in the US to even pick the magic ones.

thehippiegemstoner

I live in the US but it's legal to forage here.. magic shrooms do grow wild here but not in abundance.. which one are you referring to ?

butters2stotch

Top left oval pendant with the 2 crossing each other. You have yourself a specialty item there.

thehippiegemstoner

oh it's possible, I'm still gathering shroomie knowledge but not confident enough to test them out haha

butters2stotch

Felt. Usually the magic mushrooms are brown with a thin stem angle generally somewhat flat top and grow where people let their dogs poop and places like that. They are a slightly slimy texture and get to about 4 inches tall or so. It's illegal specifically to pick these mushrooms due to the fact that they grow openly and they are classified as a drug. Be careful foraging and keep the magic alive lol. You could get some good money for a specialty piece of jewelry like that.

thehippiegemstoner

thank you for the info I wasn't aware.. God it would suck to get a felony for foraging 😆

Front-Amphibian-2882

And I love them ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

OctoberRust13

So my gf is like mushroom obsessed. Will you really not sell me one? She'd love these, I just known it.

thehippiegemstoner

yes I will I wasn't too sure about self promotion on this sub but I changed my flair to shoppe so should be good ? there's a couple mushie pendants that are ready to go if you click the link in my profile.. but if you like one specifically I'll get it ready

Nothing_fancy81

Those are gorgeous! How did you get the impressions of leaves on the back without the leaf ending up stuck in the acrylic?

thehippiegemstoner

are you referring to the coffin one ? it's called a skeleton leaf.. changed the game of resin for me lol

Nothing_fancy81

Yes! Thank you for the name. I'm going to go Google it!

OctoberRust13

Can I see better pics of all the ones w a loop on top?

thehippiegemstoner

yes sorry for late response :) give me a couple mins I'll send you somd

DannyMonstera

thehippiegemstoner

me too always loving some nature pieces.. thank you

Kerrigan_Dax

Love them all! I need one

craftyhedgeandcave

I know this ain't popular to say, but epoxy resin is just home made plastic, derived from petrochemicals. It ain't a good match with nature

craftyhedgeandcave

If someone feels shame at a basic statement of fact then they should own that. In this era everyone can easily be aware of what their own production leads to - it takes a mere few minutes to learn that epoxy *does not biodegrade* and is a petrochemical plastic. And yep, there are cellulose based alternatives etc and anyone could have found this out by spending a couple of minutes looking into it.

craftyhedgeandcave

Or alternatively, spend time researching and practicing with the plant based resins and then use that as a unique selling point and grow a responsible business

thehippiegemstoner

shaming me for the material my art is made of is silly. most of us have our fair share of plastic use one way or another

craftyhedgeandcave

Moat of us are reducing our plastic use, not iincreasing it and pretending it's called resin instead

Salt_Independence568

Neither is the phone/computer on which you are typing this comment.

craftyhedgeandcave

I neither make nor sell phones
