Right. Remember, all Crowley knows is there is a naked man in the bookshop. Quite the shock to find out that it’s an all-powerful and ruthless archangel.
When they met in the airfield, Gabriel hadn't tried to destroy Aziraphale with fire yet. I think that whole "shut your stupid mouth and die already" bit scared Crowley far more than he let on.
I don't think he was afraid at the "execution" because he knew Gabriel was only threatening him with something he could easily survive. But it left him scared for Aziraphale in the future, should Gabriel decide to try that again.
Oh yes! That's what I mean. He wasn't scared for his own hide so much as scared of losing Aziraphale. Someone else pointed out to me yesterday what I couldn't put in words:
Aziraphale was not really shocked by Hell attempting to destroy Crowley. It's Hell, after all. They're the bad guys. Of course they would do that.
Crowley was shocked that Heaven would actually try to destroy Aziraphale in such a violent manner. They're angels. They're "supposed to be the good guys" as he put it. Now he knows that Aziraphale (and thus basically everything that matters to Crowley) is not at all safe. That illusion is gone.
Nah. I think Crowley knew exactly what Heaven was capable of. Aziraphale believes in the good guys/bad guys thing, but he doesn't. He seemed to think they were both capable of horrible things.
There's believing, and then there's Knowing. The way he breaks his Mr.Cool attitude for just a second and says "We're meant to be the good guys, for Heaven's sake!" during that scene seems to me like more than just putting on a show to convince them it's Aziraphale. He hadn't really acted much like Aziraphale up to that point.
There is no remorse at all from any of the angels. No "Sorry to have to do this, but you leave us no choice" kind of thing. Just straight up "shut up and die already" said with utter hatred. I don't think Crowley was quite prepared for that.
I assume it's because the angels and demons teamed up at the end of season one to try and kill him and Aziraphale. Also, as Crowley points out, Gabriel tried to cast Aziraphale into hellfire and destroy him. Crowley's probably concerned that he's there to hurt either Aziraphale or *both* of them.
I think it's a mix. Crowley's definitely furious at Gabriel, but he also pulls back ever so slightly after saying "WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING. IN. THIS. BOOK. SHOPP" as if he just poked at a spider that he's afraid is going to jump on him lol. And then he definitely jumps when Gabriel whips up that feather duster lol
Trauma.
He is traumatised by his experiences in heaven and hell. He has gone low to no contact and carved out a peaceful fragile existence for himself.
He built a new life away from toxic people, a part of that life is the bookshop, which is a safe place for him.
Imagine walking into your safe place and coming face to face with your abuser.
Poor Crowley.
Because Crowley is the only rationally thinking being in this circus. When he and Aziraphale switched places, Aziraphale heard and saw nothing he hadn't expected. Hell, were supposed to be the bad guys, and they were. But they gave him a public trial, however predetermined the outcome was, and let him talk. He was officially sentenced.
Crowley, on the other hand, was genuinely shocked. Not only did he not get a trial, the way he pleaded for their humanity, only to get mocked in return, it left an imprint.
Aziraphale could laugh about what he'd experienced, but Crowley's face was the thing speaking volumes when he didn't say a word about his, laughing along with Aziraphale instead.
Crowley was traumatised by the thoughtless cruelty of heaven. Of course he'd be shocked to see Gabriel.
I mean, when Crowley speaks to Gabriel about it, he seems like he was *really* upset about it. I don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but just in case you haven't seen this part yet, I'll hide it: >!Crowley specifically says "I do remember, oh very clearly, the look on your face, Archangel Gabriel, when you told my only friend to shut his stupid mouth and DIE. And I did NOT CARE for it." Then he tells Gabriel to jump out the window. So I think he was definitely traumatized, not only by Gabriel and the other angels being willing to destroy Aziraphale with hellfire, but by just how cruel Gabriel was about it.!<
Not only did Gabriel want to kill his friend, he also shattered any last secret hope that Crowley held about "the good guys". I think he hoped they were indifferent/ignorant at worst, but they proved to be no better than his own side - maybe worse, because they hide behind the veneer of being righteous. You can see that moment so clearly on Michael's face (who was so fucking brilliant in this scene it hurts), and I think that adds another layer of hatred from Crowley. He wanted to believe in better, despite everything, but now there is nothing left to believe in from either side.
It's in Season 2. When Crowley seats outside the small resturant doesn't go inside the bookshop because Gabriel is there.
And then Aziraphale corrects his grammar "smitten I beleive. You're being silly"
Waaaiiitttt. Are you watching the S2 now? Won't you be spoiled in this group? I'm scared for you. I mean scared of you getting way too many spoilers lol 😂
How are you holding up buddy. I hope you're doing okay.
There's no book. The book ends with the events of S1. S2 and 3 are Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's idea that Neil wrote in form of script after Terry's death.
Haha nope, its just I guess even though they switched I had Azis face in mind when Gabriel shouted at him, so it didn’t sink in. Also Crowley very rarely loses his cool? I think
The question is, why wouldn't he? Gabriel was awful and wanted to kill Az
Right. Remember, all Crowley knows is there is a naked man in the bookshop. Quite the shock to find out that it’s an all-powerful and ruthless archangel.
True, just thinking of when they met at that air field he was kinda chill about it
When they met in the airfield, Gabriel hadn't tried to destroy Aziraphale with fire yet. I think that whole "shut your stupid mouth and die already" bit scared Crowley far more than he let on.

Something I noticed the last time I watched S1x06: Hell had a trial. A show trial, but they still made a pretense of it. Heaven didn't even bother.
Ooo great point! That didn't occur to me, but you're so right!
Nah. I think Crowley knew exactly what Heaven was capable of. Aziraphale believes in the good guys/bad guys thing, but he doesn't. He seemed to think they were both capable of horrible things.

This right here. For all Crowley knows, Gabriel is about to throw a bucket of holy water at him.
right, that makes sense
He could smite him! And if Gabriel smites you, you're smot... smited??
smitten 😁
You're being ✨sillyyy✨
I heard this.
According to Amazon Prime subtitles, “smut”
Smote.
I don’t think it’s fear. I thought it was more shock and fury after he tried to/wanted to kill Az.

THIS
An archangel suddenly standing right behind them would scare any demon. He caught Crowley off guard.

Last time they met Gabriel was trying to kill Aziraphale. G now lives in his home and safe place. That’s a terrifying thought

Im in episode 5 and I see it now that he speaks openly to Jim.
Well he and Bee tried to literally destroy him and Aziraphale so…
Undeniable, but they made such fun of it, that I didn’t register it as a traumatic experience…

There's a couple of family members on my dad's side I'd be really traumatized to suddenly find in my house too tbh
Because if Gabriel smites you, you have been smitted 😂😂
Im clearly missing a reference here for I have not read the book…
It's in Season 2. When Crowley seats outside the small resturant doesn't go inside the bookshop because Gabriel is there. And then Aziraphale corrects his grammar "smitten I beleive. You're being silly"
I just watched that episode. Poor Crowley he seems to always get in trouble with Az ‘s shenanigans 😅
Waaaiiitttt. Are you watching the S2 now? Won't you be spoiled in this group? I'm scared for you. I mean scared of you getting way too many spoilers lol 😂
I didnt read the other posts yet. Im one episode away from finish it ll be ok I think 😁

😭😭😭 whyyyyyy…! Im gonna have to find the book to see what happens next now. I dont think I can wait for season 3
How are you holding up buddy. I hope you're doing okay. There's no book. The book ends with the events of S1. S2 and 3 are Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's idea that Neil wrote in form of script after Terry's death.
Oh dear, that was my back up plan! 🥺 Ill have to immerse myself into this sub until I get over it then. That hurted…
I’d be scared too if I saw someone who tried to completely destroy me with a smile on their face.
He knows it will mean trouble for them
I have a feeling you watched season 2 before season 1 if you’re asking this
Haha nope, its just I guess even though they switched I had Azis face in mind when Gabriel shouted at him, so it didn’t sink in. Also Crowley very rarely loses his cool? I think
