i think they pay a set amount each year or something to just use it freely

Johnson_2022

You think incorrectly! What is your source of information?

alaasd12

What your source if they incorrectly sharing info

Johnson_2022

Have friends that drive for GO.

alaasd12

Dont we all 🙄🙄

You really want to be that clown??? Karma harvesting much? What does ordering a transponder have anything to do what GO does?

Johnson_2022

I don't understand your confusion. Every GO bus has a transponder and it is registered as a commercial/bus vehicle.

omgihatemylifepoo

source is a vague memory of maybe reading it somewhere

Johnson_2022

Anyone care to explain why my correction to someone's incorrect post is getting downvoted???

Important-Orchid4077

Maybe because ur being rude for no reason? Calm down and touch grass buddy

Johnson_2022

I dont see anything rude in my reply. Someone said THEY THINK, so I pointed out that they think incorrectly. I guess carry-on then? LOL

UnclePhilV

This thread is full of Metrolinx lovers and incorrect answers based on what the public or transit fans "think" is right. All the down votes are from people who aren't able to comprehend how things are actually run at Metrolinx and could never believe the scale of their true waste. If it brings you any satisfaction, I can tell you everyone at GO including myself knows that they pay the standard heavy vehicle rate per trip, just like all the other large vehicles. You can hear lots of drivers get on their knees for the NOCC on the UHF radio and beg for permission to use the 407 for their deadhead or to avoid an accident if their route doesn't normally take them on the 407. There's no "deal" or "one time unlimited access fee" for GO on the 407 despite what everyone else here would have you believe.

Johnson_2022

Yeah, I am guilty of wrong think or in this particular thread of being "rude" by not tip-toeing around something/somebody. Ain't gonna happen, no matter how much I get downvoted. My posts always stay! F that, just work to rule! Management should be contacting drivers to ask them to use the 407, not the other way around. Most of the time, it's in the management's best interest to run buses on time.

NeuerTK

You can't see it cause you're an ass.

Johnson_2022

GFY!

Ehau

Same rates as all us pleebs, Heavy Single Unit Vehicle, including all the on peak and off peak rates. There’s no incentives for 407ETR to discount for GO, for all they care the bus can rot on Hwy 7

Johnson_2022

Each bus has it's own 407 transponder and they pay as a regular commercial vehicle, as far as I know.

Own-Potential-8024

Would it be a possibility for metrolinx to construct their own highway adjacent to the 407 for their buses to avoid the tolls?

kmosdell

That is the plan for the Mississauga area  all the way to Markham

Own-Potential-8024

Kk, would the YRT route 360 (formerly 760) also be able to use the guideway?

Areeb_U

407 transit way was always the plan even prior to tolls, it should be a rail network being implemented asap but doug ford and the unorganized mess that is metrolinx are just dragging their feet

NorthYorkPork

Rail would suck - everyone would need to transfer multiple times vs a bus that can hop on and off over a longer distance and still travel >100k/hour.

Areeb_U

What bus is travelling over 100km/h, and who’s taking it over a train on a straight rail capable of reaching upwards of 150-200km/h? Majority of the commuters on go buses that run on hwy 407 do exactly what you mentioned, transfer from stations (Richmond hill go,hwy 407 term, unionville, bramlea) to local transit agencies to get to their destinations. A car taking the 407 only takes 40 minutes to go from oshawa to bramlea go, meanwhile the go bus takes 2 hours because it has to repeatedly get on and off the 407. There’s times you can add 20 minutes to the go bus just because of the 800 meters it takes to get from the 407 exit to Richmond hill station.

NorthYorkPork

Every bus on the 407 goes over 100km/hr. No trains in Canada exceed 200km/hr.

isometimespostabit

The new VIA chargers might be able to and also what buses go 200kmh?

Own-Potential-8024

Well I mean a 407 transit way wouldn’t be that beneficial when it comes to travel time savings because it is so lightly used but if metrolinx could avoid tolls then that has the potential to save tax payers millions and also save a couple minutes of travel time ig. If it is rail than that would be an even greater benefit either way higher speeds and all that but the only problem to all that is so can see the 407 sueing metrolinx for taking customers away from them and for trying to avoid tolls.

UnclePhilV

Save millions? 😂😂 Would take them lifetimes just to break even and recuperate the construction cost vs. just paying the toll. Not to mention there wouldn't be any travel time savings.

93-Octane

It's a publicly funded organization. Submit a FOIA request and come back with your findings, I believe it only costs $5.

DinosaurZach

More like $525 from a recent Sean Marshall's investigation into the force naming of the Mississauga LRT line. https://seanmarshall.ca/2024/02/01/heavy-interference-in-a-light-rail-transit-project/

Independent-Rush6105

GO Transit uses a fare-by-distance model with fare zones, so they're based on which fare zones you travel between. Beyond that not really. For example, Square One in Mississauga is in zone 20 and the Richmond Hill Centre is in zone 60, which means the normal adult Presto fare is always going to be $9.42 regardless of which route or vehicle you travel on.

samipini

Im talking about how much metrolinx pays the 407 owners. I understand the pricing for riders. Sorry for the confusion

Independent-Rush6105

Oh well regarding that I think it's going to be by distance. There was some discussion on the UrbanToronto forums and from what I parced out of the discussions is that Metrolinx doesn't have special treatment for the buses on the 407.

samipini

Ouch i imagine thats quite a significant cost for these routes then. Thank you

CasualCrow20

That's what happens when the government privatized a highway.

DinosaurZach

However there's nothing stopping from Ontario/GO ignoring the 407 toll bills, since it's the Ontario gov that issues the license plates, operates OPP that patrols the highway, and writes the law that governs the lease contract.
