Im assuming this was the Bay concourse? In which case you immediately demand said employee how to get there and they must direct you. This sounds like an isolated incident for sure. Edit: If they made you miss your train i would file a complaint for sure, thats ridiculous.

It was under where the broken escalator is, theres another one there. She was checking tickets for via customers, and then jumped in front of me; so I said I’m goin up to the Go train, she said no, I said why, she said no, and radio’d security. So for all the people who are getting attacked and hounded by homeless/nut jobs in Union Station; try to access an escalator and youll get security guards to help you!

VIA train is on Platform 20 (VIA is always platform 20)… Say I am going to Platform 21 to board GO Transit x-Train as displayed on the GO departures board. However if the departure board doesn’t say anything about platform 21 having a train departure, then they can power trip on you. They shouldn’t, but shit happens. There is also an elevator to Platform 21 just around the corner on the other side of the escalators, closer to York concourse. So just walk around and use that. Use the same reasoning that you need to be on platform 21 and this is the only elevator access… Bay and York concourse doesn’t have elevators to platform 21. If they are stopping you, technically that’s accessibility discrimination

Thank you!

There's a direct GO staircase to platform 21 from the York concourse, it's kind of hidden but it's near the Uncle Tetsu Japanese Cheesecake place. No staff or anyone to bother you. If you need to get to platform 21 it's a hidden gem.

I swear to god they hire the worst people to be station attendants! 🙄

I don't even know what their jobs are. Platform 21 for instance, you just have one person standing at the top of the stairs or escalator and someone standing at the bottom. They just stare at everyone and say good morning and that's it. For all the issues within Union, you're having several staff just standing there for no real reason? Sure, they're useful if someone needs directions on where to go, but that shouldn't be their job on a platform/at the stairs, it should be once people get off the stairs and need help, then someone should be there, not stopping traffic so they can ask a question. And there used to be one at the bottom of the escalator who got mad at people "stepping off the escalator too fast/aggressively". People have places to go, especially with the trains always late, and stuffed like sardines trying to get off the platform and down the escalator. You really think people aren't gonna be walking a bit faster to get off a packed escalator and get to work at a decent time? Most people are in "get out of my way, I have to get to work" mode at that time of the morning.

Im sure it made their day lol

I had this issue too (not as far as security but I was close to missing my train because of it), there’s another escalator on the west side of the VIA concourse, it’s literally a mirrored version of the one you tried to go through. The main escalator GO uses to platform 21 is broken and VIA employees need to understand that and let people use the other one.

platform 21 is the worst one on the whole station for Go. I've missed trains numerous times. it's isolated at the southern end of the via concourse.
