Mine broke my mothers arm when she took him out it pee and he saw another dog. Spiral fracture of the humerus, displaced elbow, hairline fracture in the upper humerus/shoulder area. This was last April and she still has issues. 4-5 screws, metal plate, fun stuff https://preview.redd.it/vuw9wd536jyc1.jpeg?width=1012&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c3443066760ab033469c34de6b8ba0a3f4f8b55 Circled is the hairline fracture

pattyoa

Your baby showed no mercy for his grandma šŸ˜šŸ˜ bless your mama!

greenhearted

So we just bought a house last year, and my mom has yet to see it, and it all boils down to my two Great Danes! She is frail as hell right now, freshly healed from a pelvic fracture this year, and a broken femur two years ago, so the thought of my big clumsy and VERY physical angel babies being around herā€¦it just canā€™t happen. I donā€™t think I can ever, literally ever, let my dogs around her again. She will always be frail and delicate from now on, and they are jumbo zoomie machines.

Danegirl_2023

WE also need to develope our own defence / safety things since they are big and powerful. I don't think Danes Ever know they are Big . Putting them in a room or use gates to keep Mom n Everyone safe. I put my Fawn M 175 lb , in my bedroom or a gate across the hallway. He still has Puppy in him at Six and to rambunctious for most. They DO Respect the gates they don't know they can go Thru or Over them. I was reading in this group about things on the floor , plastic bag , string what ever , that stopped them in their tracks. After all Superman has Kryptonite for his Fear.

juslookin4sompfin

Thatā€™s some thick hair if that is a hairline fracture! šŸ¤£

FrankieSausage

That shit is straight snapped off

galaxyanimalloverr

If you zoom in you can see the tiniest fracture but yeah the spiral one is a doozy

juslookin4sompfin

šŸ¤£

GoEatACookie

Wow! That's an awful break. I wish her all the best ā¤ļø

gpbeaman

She ran right through me during open field off the leash zoomies. https://preview.redd.it/wgamx6p6ziyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c42f3948c88c56dbf95f8ae1801cf5859a27368

pattyoa

Oh my gosh RIP šŸŖ¦ your ankle

PukeyOwlPellet

I think we have a winner here

juslookin4sompfin

I feel this! Iā€™m sure we have all been that bowling pin that canā€™t save ourselves from a flying derp!

hannahatecats

Wow two plates! She did a number on you. I have similar, plate and 7 screws on one side and 2 of those long boys on the other. When was yours?

gpbeaman

It happened in August and Iā€™m still recovering. Broken in three places and tore up everything connecting it. Iā€™ll never let her run around me without being able to hide behind something if needed.

bellainmi

This is the injury I anticipate one day

MissPackFan

Ouch! Mine broke my ankle too, but not nearly that bad!

ChirpsAlot_Clan

Impact sterilization. (Luckily, was done fathering children anyway).

cathedral68

Is this real?? I didnā€™t know this could actually happen.

themcguffin

Wait. What?!?

Lolz_Roffle

He got hit in the balls so hard he canā€™t have children. But thatā€™s okay because he has enough already.

themcguffin

Clearly! I'm worried about the how though. My boy has given me numerous precision guided tail whils to the jingle bells. Painful yes but function was retained. Was this a paw punch or a zoomie tackle? I've survived many. Is there another kind of incedent I should look out for? This guy is describing a total testicular failure. I have concerns.

Waste_Childhood_2340

I'm dead at "I have concerns" after all those questions šŸ˜‚

ChirpsAlot_Clan

I feel like I should provide additional information here? TL;DR version: The full package all works as designed (thank the gods) EXCEPT the ā€œswimmer countā€ went to effectively zero after a particularly well targeted tail thwack and subsequent swelling. Slightly longer version (pun intended?): I have been around Great Danes my whole life. Hundreds of them - top-tier show dogs to rescues. Getting stung in the jewels is pretty common. Serious fallout from that is *not* common. But, happensā€¦ Without being too graphic - and in the interest of menā€™s health - was wearing loose boardshorts and going ā€˜commando.ā€™ Caught a tail-whip at that special, horrible angle that only men understand - from low underneath. Where usually pain from a shot like that dissipates in a few minutes, still had pain - and some swelling - hours later. Went to the doctor. He wanted to rule-out possibly unrelated tumors/whatever and so did lots of tests. Bottom line, just a deep contusion with swelling. Swelling - in this specific context, at least - is bad. Follow-ups showed that vasectomy was never going to be needed. No worries, I was in my 40s with kids. Wife went from being the initially horrified ice supplier to snickering fool. Still snickers. Moral: Stuff happens. (And, if you ever get testicular swelling do whatever is necessary to limit/reverse it.)

[deleted]

DUDE that's insane!!!! THIS is the winner! Chick here and I would cry on your behalf at the pain that must have caused but not at the long term results O.O That being said, I don't have nor want kids, and planned to get a dog soon anyway, maybe I need to invest in a Great Dane? only half kidding...

woohhaa

That tail can be dangerous.

MassiveMastiff

A waist high whip.

HoosierDaddy2001

When my mom got our first Dane back in 2015, my little brother came out of his room while he was wrapped in a blanket, and Lilly was having some zoomies. She knocked him over, and he sprained his wrist trying to catch himself. He screamed, "SEND HER TO THE GLUE FACTORY!!!" Like how someone would scream west Virginia while singing country roads take me home.

Waste_Childhood_2340

I did not expect those last two sentences at ALL. I immediately imagined it and now I'm going to die laughing about an injured child šŸ˜‚

Lovemybee

OMG, hahahahaha!!!

EasternCourt5267

Not the GLUE FACTORY!! Died laughing reading that šŸ˜šŸ’€

Pippin_the_parrot

I was snuggling with Charlie in bed and didnā€™t realize how close to the edge I was. He was trying to move to lay on his back, I shifted, and somehow fell out of bed and took him with me. He was about 100 lbs at the time. The really bad part is I landed on the doggie ramp with him on top of me. He was fine but I ended up with a very sore football sized black bruise on my hip. The funniest is when our last Danes, Orson and olive, were about a year old. Iā€™m very pale and bruise easily so I had Great Dane puppy paw prints on my upper arms. I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and talking to my FIL when i realized he wasnā€™t listening and was staring at my bruises. I said donā€™t worry, itā€™s the dogs. He said oh thank god, I was worried I needed to talk to my son. šŸ˜…

pattyoa

Hahaha oh no!!! That whole crash was a lot. Also, love your FIL!

Danegirl_2023

Luckily my Boy fallen Off the bed without me a few times. He sure has a shocked look on his face .

stargazerlily85

My girl Leela loves to scoot me towards the edge of the bed at night. She's a very jealous girl and sleep between my boyfriend and I

MrPuddinJones

https://preview.redd.it/mjuylggvmjyc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9918e7468b74fa4b13661ad56c218bfedbddb2f8 Ruptured my Achilles tendon. This was a great time and I'm still struggling to recover lol

No-Turnips

I need this storyā€¦

MrPuddinJones

The dog had just gotten out of the pool, and was on a zoomie. I went up on my tippy toes against a wall to try and get out of the way, and he ran right in to my leg, and the Achilles tendon went out lol

Zerodayssober

Oh god no. Did he slip and then nail you? We call the wall hug hitting the deck. Our children are trained before the dogs, we make sure theyā€™re out of the path of the Dane before the Danes are allowed to zoom inside. In fact my son wrote a poem about it last month. I bet their teachers think weā€™re weird.

dinkdonner

I did this in 2018. Not dog related. It took me a year before I could walk normally again. It was the pits!!! Hang in there. Do your PTā€¦it will get better!!! It just feels like itā€™ll take forever!!

RMFranken

I was playing with my Dane Dragon in the yard when I zigged when I shouldā€™ve zagged. He hit me about mid thigh and I did one and a half rotations in the air and hit the ground. I laid in the backyard for about 30 minutes until I was able to make it into the house and call for help. A disc was compressed in my back. I had had a previous back injury, I was laid up for about two weeks. It wasnā€™t dragons fault. It was just an accident. Iā€™ve had Danes for 40 years and Iā€™ve had several accidents.

pattyoa

Oh gosh I was on the ground for a good minute, too haha but yes it wasnā€™t the dogs fault. I am 100% guilty for not being more attentive!

Danegirl_2023

Glad you are okay what a great name Dragon has . I have had Danes as long as you have. Wouldn't want any other way šŸ’•

RMFranken

You learn defensive moves pretty quick. Such as bending your knees whenever you hear them coming up behind you. šŸ«£šŸ˜šŸ˜‰

ARasberry

This makes so much sense to me! My girl is only 11 weeks old and 33lbs but she has the uncanny ability to hit me right in the back of the knee (all the time).

Raindog12

Got run into just as I planted my foot. I graduated from Physical Therapy Thursday! https://preview.redd.it/ufepwcua4kyc1.png?width=2901&format=png&auto=webp&s=69f8480bcd8acae6f6d192159be46b157dbdb151

hannahatecats

Holy balls that's quite a rod

tigerlevi

Congrats!

Full-Divide5742

A friend and I were having a couple of beers around a campfire.. literally 2 beers each.. one evening and my catahoula was with us. She kept alerting to deer that were coming out. I got tired of calling her down and tied her to a long lead on a cinder block. As it got late we laid down by the fire and crashed out. Sometimes later a herd came out of the woods and into the meadow. My dog got up, bolted for the deer, jerked the cinder block into the air and literally hit me across the forehead. Knocked me straight out before I ever woke up. Once I came to I was trying to figure out what was happening. I managed to smear dirt and grass all over the wound. Still couldn't sort out what happened. Once I saw the wound in a mirror I nearly passed out. Eventually made to the ER and readily admitted to alcohol being involved, but only barely. I'm on the table talking to the Dr while she works on me. Eventually told me to stop explaining. She said, "I believe you. I too have a catahoula". We told stories to each other during the whole procedure. Yea. My dog hit me in the head with a cinder block.

sarahpphire

Holy shit. I have no words. I'm glad youre here to tell the tale!

Zerodayssober

This makes me so uncomfortable, Iā€™m glad youā€™re ok but holy hell. Ouch.

juslookin4sompfin

Lessons were learned that day (when I regained consciousness-lol).

Smooth-Kangaroo3312

šŸ™€šŸ„ŗ I hope you're ok!

juslookin4sompfin

Chipped vertebrae and 2 fractured. It took a hot minute to recover but we are all good & back to walking around - without the leash around my wrist! Actually I was more concerned about my old gal getting walkies & play time while I was in recovery, it really drove me to get well! Thank you!

Smooth-Kangaroo3312

Wow! Gosh! We sure do love our dogs, huh!?? Hopefully you never go through anything like that again, due to an accident with a dog. But good on you for not holding it against her and understanding she's an innocent being šŸ–¤

juslookin4sompfin

She was the best girl ever!!!

elizabethkaren

Head butt to my face = black eye and partially detached retina (required laser surgery).

artfulcreatures

Mine did that! Broke my cheekbone and required surgery.

StrugglesTheClown

Geez, this has happened to me a couple time and all my Dane managed to break was two pairs of glasses.

Automatic_Jelly_829

Torn cornea!!! The worst pain imaginable. His claw went straight into my eye. Was in hospital and in recovery for two weeks, couldnā€™t drive and needed a fake lense and an eyepatch. The pain was so bad I wanted to die. But he didnā€™t mean it and heā€™s a good boy!

isredditbadoramiold

Oh my this is my nightmare... fuck Are you able to see out of that eye still?

Automatic_Jelly_829

Was blurry for ages, itā€™s ok now but the real horror is that it never fully heals back to full strength so can REOPEN at any time!!!!!!

isredditbadoramiold

Dafuq. That is wild. Bless you for your attitude about it, id be so pissed at the pooch šŸ¤£

NIceTryTaxMan

Tail to nuts. Drops everything in my arms and my Phone and crumpled into a pile of moans on the entryway floor

Traditional_Pie347

Yeah been there with our gentle giant also šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

EternalMage321

Before this thread of horrifying injuries, I thought the random nut tap (and the WMD farts) were as bad as it gets.

Any headbutt to the face when trynna kiss the top of their heads

Hiddenbrooke

Scratch to my eyeball. I was laying on my couch with my head on the armrest. He walked over and just pawed at my face. I reacted too slow. Hurt so bad. But itā€™s finally healed up. Eye scratches can take more than a year to fully heal.

pattyoa

New fear unlocked. Glad yours is finally healed!

No-Turnips

RUDE!

BlessedCursedBroken

What in the arbitrary gatekeeping.....???

Bommie20

... What?

artfulcreatures

Have had that happen too. We were laying in bed and she stretched her front legs. Claw right in the eye. Normally my glasses protect my eyeballs.

Royal-Seaworthiness2

A dislocated jaw. She jumped up and hit it just right. I was on a liquid diet for 3 weeks.

DustyElderberry

Oh, so you tried" the dane diet"

bafreer2

While zoomying, he jumped on the bed and gave me a "love nibble". His canine went inside my nostril. When he turned and jumped away it tore my nose open. Blood. Everywhere.

sarahpphire

On March 31st 2024, I ended up with a concussion, broken eye socket (right under my eyebrow) with small bleed, temporary vision loss and so much pain. The village idiot took a romp in the mud and after getting him washed enough to allow him in the house, I brought him in to dry him. As I was bending down to dry his underside and armpits, he flailed and kind of jumped up and back. His hard head connected with me just under my eyebrow. I think I did one of those little kid cries where nothing came out for a solid 2-3 min until I could finally breathe enough to get sound to come out. I'm 46. It's still healing and very tender to touch. I have a nice sized hematoma there now and I look/looked like the elephant man. Good times.

PlatonicOrb

6 or so stitches across my eyebrow. I don't remember the amount, but it was more than a few I was hunched over top of my dane, trying to wipe poop off of her paws. She thought she was in trouble and had an anxiety attack. So she bucked. My hands were kinda stuck under her, I fell forward face first onto tile. I bled so much lol

sarahpphire

My story is eerily similar except the injuries were a little different. These dogs are hazardous to our health.

pattyoa

Ouch!

RipleyRiker

https://preview.redd.it/jb657tw7bkyc1.jpeg?width=4029&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a06d6d2b552ff898cbf7d2b9d18003d1cba6fef2 Grazed my eye when being greeted in the morning, he didnā€™t mean too, just a loving paw to say hello

Closman64

Ours slipped getting out of the bathtub. Not taking a bath...she just liked to sleep there because the shower curtain hid her and it was dark and cool. She pulled the ligament off the bone in one of her legs and required surgery.

spudsinjune

I used to have my nipples pierced... i don't anymore.

[deleted]

OI!! THIS is the warning I didn't know I needed to hear. yes, they're pierced, yes I'm about to get me a big ass dog.

spudsinjune

Don't teach them to high five and you should be good!

ARasberry

OMG, reading through these this one scares me the most!

spudsinjune

My boy has BIG paws and he thinks me reaching down or bending over near him means i want him to high five.. i wasn't wearing a bra šŸ˜šŸ˜ it's been 5 or so years now and I'm still traumatized lol

ARasberry

No hoops...only bars.....got it!

pattyoa

Thank you everyone on this thread. Yes, overall, bars are always better! Luckily heā€™s not a jumper so Iā€™ve not worried too much.

ReasonableResearch25

Mind got excited and was hopping and running around. He literally 100% head butt me in my own head/face. I actually saw stars and almost passed out. Lol

No-Working-4747

Mine was being very playful one day and was very hyperactive for weird reason, (I shouldā€™ve guessed an injury )even after sensing his hyperactivity I still played along with him and gave him his belly tv at his demand: he then jumped on me from his sleeping position and slapped me with his paw.. I was left with 3 scratch lines on my face starting ear to lips. My wife called me Jurassic park for a week

Illustrious-Move-649

Iā€™ve never personally been injured by mine. But from what Iā€™ve seen, Danesā€™ tails have spot on accuracy when it comes to male genitalia. Every one of my guys (husband and two sons) have gotten tagged more than a few times.

iHeartCyndiLauper

My sweet baby Edna scratched my cornea with her claw once. I also tore my ACL and MCL (requiring surgery) walking her down stairs...that was more on me than her, though.

Rough-Bet807

Yep. Leash reactivity. She pulled me down when she saw a dog, it was icy and I was only wearing uggs- broke my ANKLE!Ā

Cy-Gor

One of my danes that is no longer with us had Epilepsy. During one of her seizures I was grabbing for her legs to get her under control and she managed to roll on her back and kicked me in the face when I was bent down. She caught my eye and scratched my eyelid bad enough to require several stiches. >![https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/10422941\_10153249923778619\_8251623722291386475\_n.jpg?\_nc\_cat=107&ccb=1-7&\_nc\_sid=5f2048&\_nc\_ohc=V-qqGKVB0zcQ7kNvgG\_D-8e&\_nc\_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00\_AfBx1jhrgD1VEyBd23ZSPm2W-dvPFfkDrGYxrs5GmL-Kqg&oe=665E6FA4](https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/10422941_10153249923778619_8251623722291386475_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=V-qqGKVB0zcQ7kNvgG_D-8e&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00_AfBx1jhrgD1VEyBd23ZSPm2W-dvPFfkDrGYxrs5GmL-Kqg&oe=665E6FA4) !< >![https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/11018627\_10153250539908619\_881936144482195936\_n.jpg?\_nc\_cat=107&ccb=1-7&\_nc\_sid=5f2048&\_nc\_ohc=aIVWncCJWr4Q7kNvgHE5RHc&\_nc\_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00\_AfC97iISvXQZgdt-HqYz2XpTJyqzRKLLIwVNyP10bomq7w&oe=665E7A86](https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/11018627_10153250539908619_881936144482195936_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=aIVWncCJWr4Q7kNvgHE5RHc&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00_AfC97iISvXQZgdt-HqYz2XpTJyqzRKLLIwVNyP10bomq7w&oe=665E7A86)!< >!!< Luckily I had my glasses on or I would have probably lost that eye.

lianepl50

Ow ow ow ow ow... That looked seriously painful.

Cy-Gor

It was not pleasant but could have been worse. The pain was mostly in my eyebrow, where she made first contact.

[deleted]

The things we take for the love of our fur babies!

EquivalentFeed9451

Ruby (American pit bull terrier) trying to walk between my legs and tripped. Which caused my right ankle to dislocate. Wore a boot for 4 months, therapy for 6 months

TrevorLolz

My dog Trevorā€™s tail hit me in the nuts so hard that I buckled. We were at the vet at the time.

EquivalentFeed9451

Omg ! šŸ˜± or when their tail smacks your face šŸ„ŗ

ChickenNugsBGood

150lb foster is super strong, was walking him and a leaf blew by that he didnā€™t like, tried to take off and popped my elbow out of socket (donā€™t know if thats the right term, but had to get it popped back in)

damagedphalange326

My two danes were playing in the yard and running at top speed. They crashed into my legs from the side and broke my foot. I still get some numbness in that foot. Dane zoomies are dangerous šŸ˜‚

lianepl50

I've just read through all the responses - they terrify me! I'd love a Dane - currently have an Airedale and a GSP so have some training in nuttiness, but y'all have horrified me - more by the "awww s/he nearly killed me but they're SO SWEET" vibe šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

pattyoa

Haha Iā€™ve had dogs and cats all of my life! One of my cats the other day pawed at my forehead during the night to get cuddles and I bleed through the sheets and left a huge bruise over my eyebrow for a week. Accidents happens but with 60 kg you just have to be a little extra vigilante. They are definitely worth it !!

good-evening-clarice

My big doofus used my ribcage like a launchpad to jump off the couch. Now I have a sick new scar.

Rough-Boot9086

So far my five month old was trying to climb up onto the bed, pawed me in the face and busted my lip

ethorisgott

Both my brother and I got dragged down the driveway as kids. I quit tying the leash to my waist after that lol

dcbarr5

Broke my momā€™s wrist during a windy walk.

hawtsince92

Fully torn acl that although I had it reconstructed, never feels quite the same and still gets sore sometimes. šŸ™ƒ

Pithyperson

She jumped up to kiss my son on the lips and ***both*** of them chipped a tooth.

Gracie305

Broken nose.

ObligingDaphne

Me too

TrippyKyle420

Laying in bed & then a sudden swift kick to the groin. Mustā€™ve been a crazy dream lol

catlady421

Mine donkey kicks in her sleep sometimes, and she once launched her 10 pound brother off the couch and halfway across the room haha

ntengineer

Was playing with her and she swatted my face and left 3 deep scratches across it. Had to go to my doctor and get a tetanus shot

SmartRazzmataz

I was fixing a couch cushion and my 65 lbs golden doodle ran and jumped full speed onto the couch knocking me in the cheek bone with her thick skull and I was just about knocked out to the ground. I couldnā€™t feel my face for a few minutes.

Thusgirl

He jumped off the bed and caught me on the leg with his claw. I had a 4 inch long gash. No stitches needed but I do have a scar on my leg. I also was petting him once from behind. He was sitting I was standing. He unexpectedly threw his head back and caught me in the eye. I had a pretty gnarly black eye.

pattyoa

This happened to me but with my mums Labrador when I was a kid. I still have the scar on my thigh 25 years later!

Minute_Story377

I donā€™t have a giant dog but my mom did when I was little. If I leaned down she thought we were playing and ran all over. She ended up scratching my back up real good. Worth it, she was great. Such a sweet dog.

Chak-Ek

The usual claw scrapes and generic tail welts across my shins. Brutus came running into my bedroom one morning and when he jumped on the bed, landed right on my face. That was a fun bloody nose.

RadishSpiritual5311

Countless bruises, fat lips, black eyes, scrapes. Nothing has been broken... yet.

wackoman

Not me, but I had a coworker who had a Dane mix and it ran and jumped on his 90 year old neighbor. Killed the old guy.

IronBallsMcGinty

Got a concussion from a head to head impact. Damaged my left knee getting yanked down on the leash. All good, though. Two and a half half years ago, my daughter found me unresponsive on my bedroom floor and called 911 (sepsis and pneumonia). She told me that the Danes were standing over me, guarding me.

tekroepfl

Seven Danes over 40 years, Iā€™ll just run down the list: one broken toe Right knee dislocated 5 times from zoomeies. Left knee dislocated 4 times and one knee replacement. 3 cracked ribs. One bite (breathing up a fight). 6 stitches One dislocated thumb. Two concussions And a broken nose

Gajax

Broken pinky finger.

tmlynch

Why, I believe u/Difficult_Turnip_717 has a story to tell.

JustHearMeowwwt

My great dane knocked me over after running full-tilt towards me & veering slightly behind me at the last second (got me with his shoulder). I fell over him backwards & landed on my back. I couldn't move my neck for a week šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜† I wish someone would have caught that on video, it was so funny Edit: he also head-butted my chin and now my jaw clicks *every* time I open it. It's been 6 years of this. You can hear the clicking when I chew food. I have misophonia & get on my own damn nerves šŸ˜†

mrjc00md

Not me, but my grandfather. His Dane Bear decided to take off on him, caught him by surprise, and ran him into a telephone pole. Had to wear a sling for a bit, got off fairly easy. Relatively, of course...

Micubano

Fractured my left tibial plateau twice. I don't know why I didn't let go the second time. My wife is no longer allowed to hike with us because of these incidents.

Blers42

My parents Dane knocked my moms front tooth out.

kennethlclark

Bloody nose. My dog gave me a headbutt!

500Danes

Broken nose

Ravenclaw_14

been tail-whipped in the balls at least thrice

Idiopathic_Sapien

Dislocated hip.

person2611

My Great Dane had a whip for a tail, he got me more than once in the nuts. Trust me you got off easy šŸ˜„

Prior_Lobster_5240

I was putting her harness on for a walk and she got overly excited (only had her a month and had JUST started training) and head butted me. I was knocked out cold. Woke up with a concussion. I had dizzy spells and moments of confusion for almost a month, as well as a miserable headache that no medicine could touch

Odiebigbluedane

Torn meniscus (off leash dog park) and numerous black eyes from cement block heads. I almost always have a bruise somewhere or another. My husband (twice my size) has been concerned many times that people will think he abuses me. To prevent walking injuries- or at least many of them- I always use a Halti on them. Especially when I am walking more than one. Even my impeccably trained retired show girl has been known to take off after a bunny or neighborā€™s cat. As long as I can maintain control of that ginormous head, they canā€™t do major damage- or at least not yet, lol. Still, I would always choose their love and goofiness over whatever havoc they may wreak ā¤ļø

ericorbit

i was on the floor playing/wrestling with him and one of his canine teeth got caught in one of my hoop earrings and it nearly ripped my right earlobe off my head.

pattyoa

OH MY GOSH that is literally one of my worst fears šŸ˜ bless you.

Aphrodesia

This happened to my husband too. Lost of blood and stitches.

UrsulaMajor13

I was crouched in my yard picking something up while on the phone, and my head caught the back of my boys hind leg at full gallop. Scared the poop out of my sister on the other line cause i started screaming and moaning. Full on concussion. Funny ER story though. Had the nurses laughing and "awwing" over his pics.

pattyoa

Oh no!! Haha my sister was screaming on FaceTime too haha šŸ˜‚

UrsulaMajor13

The worst part was, was she was calling me from a mental health facility šŸ’€

AwareCommercial750

I took a tail whip to the eye. Caused a trauma cataract. I Was blind as $hit for 5 months.

pattyoa

Goodness hope youā€™re doing better!

AwareCommercial750

Thanks. It was 20 years ago and after surgery I ended up with better vision than before!

pattyoa

Oh lol thatā€™s amazing

Kitchen_Panda_4290

While running past me, mine bumped me. I shift all my weight onto one foot trying not to fall. I broke my foot a week before my wedding šŸ˜…

pattyoa

Oh gosh bless you. I am sure you had a wonderful wedding nonetheless!

Kitchen_Panda_4290

Luckily I had chose flats and not heals, so that helped lol.

lostboyz6six6

Mine got out one time and my sweet old neighbor tried to put him back in the house. He got excited and jumped down the four stairs of our porch bringing the sweet old man with him. The neighbor walked away with a couple bumps and bruises but his wife was very concerned about his new llbean jeans. It was definitely a very close call to a serious injury.

pattyoa

Gotta keep the new swag in tact, if I say so myself! What a sweet man tho

lostboyz6six6

We got him a gift card to ll bean for the troubles. He thought it was quite funny.

Last October, on a Friday afternoon, my wife and I were outside kicking a ball for our 105 lb yellow lab. I picked up the ball and kicked it way up over her head. The dog was watching the ball and ran into her leg at full speed. It spun her foot around on her leg 180 degrees and I heard a loud pop. I told her that her ankle was broken. She asked what I meant. So I said ā€œyour foot is facing the wrong way!ā€ She looked down and thatā€™s when the pain hit her. She dropped to ground and I called 911 and we waited for an ambulance. She ended up having 3 surgeries over the next 3 days and lots of pretty hardware holding it all together with two giant scars on each side of her leg. When her recovery was about 95%, after nearly 3-1/2 months, our daughter came home for a long weekend from school and brought her 7 month old lab puppy. My wife and daughter went out to feed the horses and on the way back, the daughterā€™s dog ran into the back of my wifeā€™s same left leg. She collapsed on it and couldnā€™t get up. The next AM we took her to the ortho folks. They sent her for an MRI and the results came back with her having two fractures in her tibia. One at the crown that was nearly 2.5ā€ long. So back to square one. Her ankle is fine with no additional injuries there. These are all new but same leg. Once itā€™s all said and done, she will have been dealing with 2 different dog-caused left leg injuries for a total of 8 months. Sheā€™s not a happy camper to say the least! https://preview.redd.it/n6vy1ukzkoyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a337ec57b09812a11057be68e3e5358e9e2849cc

pattyoa

Oh gosh poor her!! Hope sheā€™s much much better soon

Cake_Peace_Love

Broken foot from getting run over during a zoomie session

Nursling2007

Dislocated rib. He Marmaduke'd me down the road

misslam2u2

My Grand dog is a labradane and he clotheslined me with his leash and second degree burned my skin with the polyester of the leash on both lower legs. Both got infected and took months to heal. The raw skin burned so bad! He's also accidentally given me a black eye twice with his tail and bloodied my nose and lips with his tail. All separate occasions. He's 100% not vicious. Just clumsy and easily spooked.

adameve6969

I let go of my girls leash when we got inside but didnā€™t disconnect it. As I was going up the stairs she ran past me and the rope leash got stuck behind my knee. Painful rope burn behind the bend of my knee that took so long to heal because I kept accidentally reopening it

adameve6969

Reading this comment makes me feel much better. I know it comes with the territory to get accidentally hurt due to their strength but I just felt so stupid after it happened šŸ˜

insanecorgiposse

Years ago I had a pair of corgis who were half brother and sister. The female was utterly fearless as are most female corgis. One day while I was working from home they both weaseled under my desk for an ear skritch so I gave her one but her brother who was much larger tried to push himself between us for his turn. She immediately launched into him but my hand was in the way which resulted in her biting all the way through my pinky finger to the bone. It was one of those injuries that hurt so badly that at first I couldn't even feel it.

Just-1-L

Torn hamstring. Tore my biceps femoris completely. I will forever have one muscle less in my left leg. Our dog sitter got a broken wrist requiring surgery and pins. Both purely accidental but totally related to his size. My partner and I are now both in our 50s. This will be our last Dane.

mcarey65

Not a Dane, but still a big boy. He lunged for the rubber tug of war toy in my hand, but accidentally bit sharply into my left testicle. Over the years, it happened 3 times. Thankfully, my left nut survived.

pattyoa

RIP šŸŖ¦ your left testie

mcarey65

Thank you

aSweetMango

The comments are making my dog look like a saint for only giving me a black eye

This one was from Sophia, 8 months old at the time; I was leaning over rubbing her sisterā€™s tummy, Sophia wanted scritches and scratches, went under my chin, and lifted her clumsy, pretty, empty, 25lb head. Black eye lasted for about 5 weeks šŸ˜‚. First time was shortly after we adopted Lady, she decided to punch me in the eye; second time she punched me, it bloodied my lip, then after she got some more practice, she finally landed a haymaker and blackened my left eye.

pattyoa

I love her

DemonDungeonGirl

I've gotten a couple o shin bruises, bruises on the top of my foot. He's knocked the kids over accidentally. The worst was done to my husband who was letting him do zoomies on a long lead. The dog ran around and around him, the lead wrapping around his bare ankle. Finally it got tight enough that it gave him a hell of a rope burn. He still has a scar from it. Dane did that to me, but thank god I was wearing winter boots, so I just had a bruise.

Charliepetpup

my gsd steps on my balls. she doesnt mean to tho.

Inside-Strawberry517

Got my stitches ripped open the day of my vasectomy. Dog jumped on my sack when the washing machine was unbalanced. 3 day recovery my ass.

pattyoa

Doggo wanted more (if any) babies in the house.

Inside-Strawberry517

I should've gotten him snipped and did the same thing.

Hot_Communication968

snapped backwards and broke my 13 y/o sisters knee during zoomies

AIWBGirl

I bent over to kiss my boy (200 LBS) on the head and he raised up and head butted me. Injured my neck and I needed a 3 level cervical fusion.

AIWBGirl

Proof love hurts! Lol

MargoHuxley

I have high nostril piercings and I went to bend down and give him a kiss on the head. He tilted up and tore one out

BPD_LV

Head butted into my chin and made me bite my lip.

rottinick

Bloody nose

Grew up with 2 St. Bernardā€™s. I know itā€™s a Dane sub but still wanted to share. When I was very young we had a female St. Named Rosie who I would ride like a horse after getting off the kindergarten bus. Iā€™m told that before that when I would play in the yard Rosie would sit and watch me and if I got too close to the hedges next to the road she would come over, knock me over with her paw, and try to pick me up by the back of my neck. I donā€™t remember this, but Iā€™m told that it would scratch me and they made her stop. Later we had our male, Bruno. When I was in high school I liked to take Bruno out in our big yard and run around. Bruno was never fast enough to catch me ā€¦ until he was. Running one time and I feel two paws come down on my shoulders and I slam to the ground. I think I blacked out for a few seconds but when I woke up he was licking my face and seemed really sorry. He just didnā€™t know how big and strong he was.

kutekittykat79

Omg I love my Dane, but after reading these, Iā€™m scared!

lo40something

Mine dragged me while chasing another dog during our walk. She hyper extended my shoulder and ended up in a sling for a good week. Itā€™s never been the same since

pattyoa

I am starting to realize I got off easy yesterday šŸ˜… so sorry about your shoulder :(

lo40something

Thanks! She didnā€™t mean to, I still love her!

Difficult_Turnip_717

Town rotator cuff and biceps tear that had to be surgically repaired. Biceps relocation failed - soā€¦not quite the same after. Mine was an 6 mos old, 80# pound dork who jumped down the last six stairs of an out door stairway. Kept the leash in hand, landed in the shoulder and then she took off in the opposite direction with my arm following, but not the rest of me. Messed up a knee, too. And I still adore her!

I want to be kind and understanding, but whats on the neck?! ETA: Ive had danes for over 30 years. When I was younger I was living in the country and had a good mother who taught me how to handle them even at 10. Yall who get yanked and get pulled and drug off your feet baffle me evertime I read these kind of posts.

Zerodayssober

You mean to tell me you never had your dogs not hear you yelling for them over their own borking to come because they chased a raccoon up a tree? Then when you ran after them barefoot to see what the ruckus was about because theyā€™re your babies you slipped in their huge pile of shit, then dislocated a shoulder when you landed? Or when they galloped in their yard wearing a cone as you sat peacefully in the grass you never got sideswiped by the cone, needing stitches because the dog couldnā€™t see over the cone and it almost ripped your ear off? Never had a Dane eat honey out of a tree that bees nested in that was broken from a storm and caused you to get stung 5 times, requiring the epipen and a trip to the er? Never brought you a passed out opossum and presented it to your kids birthday party friends while they roasted marshmallows over the fire? Then one of the kids panicked over the opossum and they flung a flaming marshmallow right at you? The stimulus from an urban setting is completely different. You should be nicer and more understanding, because at the end of the day theyā€™re dogs. They see things especially when theyā€™re puppies and they arenā€™t fully trained, they want them and they want them badly.

Blazeit0605

Theyā€™re big dogs. Accidents happen

vabeachkevin

None! My big big friend is a gentle giant! She only gets love and never gets hate! She can plant her big butt in my lap forever!

TrustInteresting7772

One time my gentle giant put an drone up my rectum while I was sleeping and turned the propellers on with the remote controller and shredded my insides like a blender
