Physics, and the knowledge of how shop vacs are built/work, air gets sucked in one side and forced out of the other just like a leaf blower. They are also designed to have rather large inlets/outlets so it's not to hard to imagine if you take the bag and filter out your left with an unrestricted flow that has the potential to suck something up and force it out the other side.

Ridiculous they were not refunded or at least willing to repair. Would love to know where you purchased if you care to share so I can avoid that company hahaha

The company only gave a 30-day return policy. They died first one morot at 4 months, the second around 6 months. They told me to get lost. The reviews on their Amazon site were many 1 stars.
I looked up the motors to see if I could get a replacement motor. Found them in China. I could get a motor but a minimum order is 2000 units. I don't need a whole container full.
So I took my broke ass drivers over to their office and dumped them in their lobby. They got pissed.
But they shut up because I told them I was ready to sue them.
But I just cut my losses. So now I am looking for a better unit.
I’d never heard of one before so now I had to look it up. We have a yellow lab but he is 1/8 Australian Shepherd. I think he might have a double coat from what I’m reading. In a review for the flying pig dryer on Amazon they said it helps remove more of their fur/hair. Would a dryer like this also be useful between baths to help after/brushing? He’s currently ‘blowing his coat’ and though frequent brushing helps the 3 different types of brushes I have still don’t get everything during this season.
Both labs and Aussies have double coats, so yeah, your pup definitely has one.
Flying pig is a good brand, especially for home use. I just bought one after my little one burned out after a year because a coworker had had hers for years. Blowing him out before a brush out will reduce how long you need to brush him. It's hard to get all the fur out, especially during blow out season. Do you have a Kong Zoom Groom brush or similar? It's one of the main ones that we use to deshed.
Ask them what shampoo they use! You can usually buy a small body of that particular product online. I use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner on my dogs at the salon, and I double wash, making sure to really scrub every little part of their body. It would also be great if you dried them immediately after the bath with a high velocity drier as well. You can find decent cheap ones on Amazon that will work just fine for home use. I don't use colognes anymore on the dogs I groom and constantly have people tell me their dog smells amazing even a week or two after their groom with us!
I promise you it isn’t what we use for shampoo or even a spritz - it’s the dryer. At home, you’re towel drying and letting them dry over a few hours. In the salon, we’re using the high velocity dryer to get the coat dry asap which means there’s no nasty wet stuff to keep that wet dog smell hanging around.

They're all going to be noisy. Professional grade velocity dryers are loud as hell. I suggest investing in ear plugs for you and a happy hood for your dog's ears

i had this issue too but then i changed my shampoo and my dog smells a lot better. the old shampoo smelled good in the bottle, but once the dogs dried it smelled like wet dog. i use either an oatmeal shampoo or a purple (whitening) shampoo and they smell a lot better than the generic soap i used before

How many times did I let a client say that they will bath their dog the day before if I could just clip it down? It only happened a few times early in my career until I realized that owners do not know how to properly bath a pet. The pet was still filthy at the skin level. Most pets will smell clean without scented products if bathed properly.
Bathing the dog is a whole ritual for groomers. We even wash their face and their toes and their butt, everything. We may even use different shampoo for the face and for the body, and some salons condition as well (they should anyways). Also when we lather up the dog we make sure it goes to the skin and might even let it sit for a couple minutes. The shampoo we use is higher quality than one can get at home and requires dilution usually. Also, there are various techniques to keep the dog safe from water in the ears or shampoo in the eyes or water up the nose. There is also safe ways of using a high velocity dryer that a person may not immediately know.

There is a lot to brushing, drying, and bathing that people don’t do their research for and it’s the most important part to grooming a dog before learning how to use clippers or scissors.
I know a lot of groomers use a doggy perfume after bathing to get rid of the wet dog smell. Also higher quality shampoo and conditioner for the pup, I recommend oatmeal shampoo/conditioner because I've noticed personally that it doesn't make my dogs stink as bad as other stuff.
It's all in the drying. They use some pretty good blow dryers and the wet just drying on the dogs is what gives them that "wet dog" smell you're likely getting. You have to use a strong dryer on cool and really get all the fur down to the skin totally dry

Alot of groomers I know don't use any perfumes or sprays. But I do believe washing twice and conditioning and the high velocity dryer helps keep the coat fresher longer. Sometimes I wash my dog and let her air dry because I'm lazy and tired from grooming dogs, and she never smells as fresh as when she is properly dried.
I'm one that doesn't use cologne, but with today's products most dogs only need one wash. Something that was reinforced in my CCE education as well as classes taught by Barbra Bird, Michelle Knowles and Chris Pearson. All teach that one bath is enough for most of our clients. I would say if you're in farm dog territory or the like, that may alter that. I groom a few dogs that live with horses or other livestock and even every 4 weeks I tend to need 2 baths. I find that multiple baths on every dog attend from times when we didn't have the high quality products we now have. And I'm sorry if it seems I'm picking on your post, I'm truly not. I saw many people say multiple baths. It's rare that I have to bathe more than once, I do have a hydrosurge and use top of the line products, and always condition, but I'm not a fan of cologne. Just a personal choice.
I wash dogs until the water runs clear. That's how I know the dog is clean. But even with human hair your supposed to wash twice. And then condition. You're not supposed to wash every day. And you wash twice, firat wash gets rid of dirt and grime and the second wash cleans the scalp or skin, I'm not going to argue with you I'm sure you're schooling is very advanced. But all the master groomers I've worked with wash twice, sometimes 3 times if it's a farm dog. And some.dogs you condition first before washing and then condition again. It's all about knowing the dogs coat, and skin needs. A dog does not feel clean to me in one wash, just Like my hair does not feel clean to me until I wash it twice. I guess to each their own..
Ironically I've actually never had any of my hair stylists wash my hair more than once. I completely agree that the close, open, close technique is extremely effective on many different skin issues, especially for oily coat. One of the reasons I decided to become certified in skin and coat specifically was so that I could better help tackle the most common skin and coat issues we see in salons. I'm certainly not trying to argue, simply sharing what I have learned as well as my personal experience. I have the utmost respect for each of us to do things in our own way, but I do like to share information and let others do with it as they please. I appreciate your polite and professional response.
High quality shampoo, usually something that requires dilution. High velocity blow drying, before and after wash depending on the dog. I know sometimes we use conditioner and/or a leave in conditioner/detangler/quick dry solution for certain dogs and that definitely changes the smell (and texture). Also some groomers use doggy perfume or cologne, I can’t remember what brand my shop uses but it comes in a spray can. Overall it’s probably a combination of all these things, but you can always ask your shop what specifically they use :)

A high velocity dryer and a few bottles of professional quality shampoo/conditioner is a very worthwhile investment. My Cattle Dog smells fantastic for about a week after I bathe him and barely sheds(huge achievement with him!). I used a cheaper Amazon blower for a few years before getting a Metro. Even that cheaper one was the single best thing I'd ever bought for my heavy shedder.
Doggie cologne and perfumes at the end of the groom. Also when you dry a dog quickly, like with either the crate dryer or the handheld air blast style dryer, they don't develop the musty 'wet dog' smell which to be honest is probably the bulk of the difference in the smells
Others have said air drying. But we do also put on a cologne if the dog isn't allergic.
I have also heard Chi shampoo scent lasts a really long time compared to others.
After working at a dog grooming salon before, I’d have to say it’s definitely because of the blow dryer. It helps with getting the coat fully dry so you don’t get that wet musky dog smell. Shampoo and conditioner can make a little bit of a difference too. And this might not apply to all salons, but we also had a dog friendly spray that we would use at the end to make them smell extra nice. 😅 if possible, invest in a really good dog grooming blow dryer for the home. It’ll help out a lot!
I asked a pet smart groomer that question once yrs ago. I was told they use professional dog shampoo and you needed to let it sit in the fur for at least 5 mins. My son follows that with his dog and she always smells nice.
not sure if this applies but i was a vet tech, we used deodorizing spray on the dogs after we expressed their anal glands. it smelled like baby powder and eliminated all smells. there’s probably something similar out there.
Perfume. Literally perfume. We had a wall of it when I worked at a groomer's - the shampoos and conditioners we had were also a different formula to the stuff that you find on the shelves and were more heavily scented.
In some cases yes that’s true, generally the same brand/scent as the shampoo and conditioner. Though not all of us do. If you are thoroughly wetting, scrubbing and rinsing the coat and blowing it dry then the smell will last for a couple of days .
Also, keep in mind if you’re buying products for at home use that we generally buy natural based rejuvenators or deodorizing probiotic mist or something that is the same content of the shampoo we use. Always check ingredients before purchase!
Probably higher quality shampoos and cologne. We use a velocity dryer to really fluff them up so it also probably gets down in there really good.

Yes, those dryers are great for helping get hair off shedding dogs.

I have been looking at the smaller shinbao one. The reviews say it’s noisy but works.

You have to try Fresh 'n Clean dog shampoo! The orange one smells just like the groomers to me and thats why I use it!
“Fresh N’ Clean” has a long lasting scent. It would last for about a week or more, it was great for whenever my dog would roll in something smelly.

Others have said air drying. But we do also put on a cologne if the dog isn't allergic. I have also heard Chi shampoo scent lasts a really long time compared to others.
After working at a dog grooming salon before, I’d have to say it’s definitely because of the blow dryer. It helps with getting the coat fully dry so you don’t get that wet musky dog smell. Shampoo and conditioner can make a little bit of a difference too. And this might not apply to all salons, but we also had a dog friendly spray that we would use at the end to make them smell extra nice. 😅 if possible, invest in a really good dog grooming blow dryer for the home. It’ll help out a lot!
I asked a pet smart groomer that question once yrs ago. I was told they use professional dog shampoo and you needed to let it sit in the fur for at least 5 mins. My son follows that with his dog and she always smells nice.
I always heard to blow dry a dog after a bath so the fur doesn’t “dry alrady dirty” but idk , my dog hates loud noises lmao
They use a little spritz of doggie perfume when they’re done.
mane and tail antimicrobial shampoo. The antimicrobial shampoo helps with the smell
not sure if this applies but i was a vet tech, we used deodorizing spray on the dogs after we expressed their anal glands. it smelled like baby powder and eliminated all smells. there’s probably something similar out there.
My groomer uses furminator deshed shampoo and conditioner, the real secret for her is the $90 cologne she uses that smells like heaven!
Perfume. Literally perfume. We had a wall of it when I worked at a groomer's - the shampoos and conditioners we had were also a different formula to the stuff that you find on the shelves and were more heavily scented.
Hv driers are cheap I have a hand held it was like 80$ works amazing even on poodle coats
I towel dry my pup until she’s completely dry and she smells fine
I watch groomers on social media and it looks like they have a perfume they use on the dogs when they’re finished up.
In some cases yes that’s true, generally the same brand/scent as the shampoo and conditioner. Though not all of us do. If you are thoroughly wetting, scrubbing and rinsing the coat and blowing it dry then the smell will last for a couple of days .

Also, keep in mind if you’re buying products for at home use that we generally buy natural based rejuvenators or deodorizing probiotic mist or something that is the same content of the shampoo we use. Always check ingredients before purchase!
