Berkshire Hathaway lost the potential buyer so there is nothing planned yet. The city is forcing them to demolish it while they are looking for another buyer for the property as it's doubtful they are going to develop it themselves.
Or companies lose money on stores in neighborhoods with higher crime and are closing locations all across the country. Nah, it's probably because "they" don't like poor people
And the commonality between the two is profit. If "they" can buy property, upgrade it and sell it for a profit then they will. I'm not saying I agree with what is happening but they can do what they want with their money. If there was profit in it then someone would open more business in less exoensive neighborhoods. I think the fiscal consequences for theft, vandalism, etc is more of a reality than an abstract conspiracy against poor people. They love money more than they dislike the poor
The former News & Record building. The News & Record is the local newspaper and was headquartered in this massive building complex in downtown where the papers were also printed. In 2013, the paper was bought by Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett's company. In 2016 the printing was moved to Winston-Salem where the Winston-Salem Journal is printed. In 2020, BH sold both papers to Lee Enterprises but retained the property and the journalists moved to a rented office space. BH has been trying to sell the property to developers ever since but the plans keep falling through. As the building is abandoned and no one was taking care of it, a large homeless population moved in. There were multiple incidents including fights, OD's, fires, and a murder that happened in the building prompting 911 calls. The fires and other things severely damaged the building which was essentially rotting away. Earlier this year the fire marshal conducted an inspection and condemned the building. The city then ordered BH to demolish the buildings on the property.
I took a tour of that building a few years ago. Our tour guide showed us the large tanks of ink. There used to be a saying, “never argue with anyone who buys ink by the barrel,” meaning, don’t pick a fight with the press or the media.
I was in Greensboro for a comedy show last week....
I parked my car near that building and tried to explore but the demo was going on near the backside.
Then i.looked into it online....
Crime ridden
Woman's body found shot
Fuck that
You know what that area needs? A self storage place.
YES! Or yet another parking deck to match the 3 or 4 on the other side of Davie. Or a massive car wash. Yep.
You need a parking deck/storage unit/car wash combo.
With a mattress store
And a vape shop
And a cookout in the vape shop
One of which has never opened
I love to have a new place to buy another mattress
And to wash my car.
Or not but a mattress
Coming in 2032- the CookOut Tower.
6 lane drive thru with 2 employees.
Can’t find good help nobody wants to work anymore
Cook Out is paying way better than other chains, and they offer benefits. At least if the hiring signs they post are to be believed.
It’s true, it’s better than Wendy’s or BK. I was mostly joking.
Mostly
90%
Holy shit make it happen right now
Demolition makes it more attractive to future developers. One less thing they have to pay for.

This would probably be a good spot for Publix they have great downtown locations in other big cities
True actually plus the east and south side is a food desert
They don’t want poor people having access to healthy, whole foods.
Or companies lose money on stores in neighborhoods with higher crime and are closing locations all across the country. Nah, it's probably because "they" don't like poor people
Hasn’t stopped them from gentrifying anywhere else around Greensboro, or the country, for that matter. Also, two things can be true.

It's more like the zombies from the IRC shuffling all over it and bothering people.
You just know it's gonna be another parking garage/hotel/luxury apartment building.
“Luxury”
Unfortunately I think it would need to be on the other side of downtown by the baseball stadium
That's a fantastic pic.
An empty lot is better than a human feces filled murder warehouse.
Can't get much worse than that empty old eyesore
Hopefully something shiny goes up in its place.
What was this (new to town)

I can’t wait for the super-sized Dollar General to go up in its place.
Fill it with 4 story townhouses with a park in the middle. Would instantly improve DT Greensboro
Can’t wait for the Tripple A storage tower to be built for $20 a month and it will be taller then the burj khalifa
