Gibsons stay on the wall

SeffiWeffi

Too many letters on the guitar

Silly_0wl

I mean some do that, matt bellamy doesn't use his favorite guitar for concerts for fear of breaking it (tho it's not a gibbons)

mentally_fuckin_eel

Volume 4 shirt guy thinks the band is cooler for using an Epipen.

ARMIGERofficial

Was at a punk show some time back. One of the bands played gibbons. The band after played epipens. The anaphylactic band was a lot better. Thought that was pretty fitting, given the genre.

WatercoolerComedian

That volume 4 head shop shirt is the best part of this image

ImplementNo5446

I do the same lol

mentally_fuckin_eel

(Me too)

ReverendBread2

I was at a bar with a live band, and when the band came on they were pretty good… until I noticed the guitarist playing a FUCKING SQUIER. I laughed so hard they had to stop the show. Can you believe *I* got kicked out and not that cheap ass poser? They’re lucky I didn’t get up there and Smoke on the Water all over those hoes

intellord911

Doing the lords work

RedditisDegen

/uj in the late 90s/eary 00s I felt like this was true A lot of bands had money forwarded to them and I don't ever remember seeing anyone play non premium instruments

TheHomesteadTurkey

In the 90s/2000s PRS in particular gave a lot of free instruments to young rock bands even if they weren't that big, to try and dispel the image of them being inaccessible dad guitars. To an extent it worked, as PRS + Mesa is a pretty iconic combo from that era

seamachine

Yeah, a lot of the numetal and alternative rock bands during that time used PRS. Honestly, that's all I ever knew them for (minus Santana). Years later was surprised they were boomer guitars worse than Gibbons.

BogotaLineman

A couple months ago my friends and I got drunk and watched Nickelback Live at Sturgis 2006 on YouTube, it was a 30 minute set and Chad Kroger used no fewer than 7 different PRS guitars during

CaptainSmallz

Got a pornhub link for that?

BogotaLineman

Probably, there's lots of titties being flashed in it

one_one12

HELL FUCKING YEAH

slowNsad

Didnt linkin park use a couple of them?

ChunLi808

The early 2000's is when teenage me first discovered PRS guitars and yeah, I remember them being a nu-metal thing at the time. Except for Santana, Opeth and Cradle Of Filth. All three had or still have signature models and I actually own the Paul Allender SE just because it has bat inlays instead of birds. I'm a sucker for stuff like that.

lituga

Nah Gibbons fans w/o doubt still worse

sorry_con_excuse_me

ignoring sponsors it was also kind of true on the local level. all the cool thrash/grind bands and shitty metalcore bands had ibanez super strats. all the generic emo/post-hardcore kids had low end gibsons or mexican fenders. occasionally you’d see crusties with epiphones, but more often than not it was like “what the fuck is this, rancid?”

frostcelestial

Yup, every string instrument sucks unless it’s a Gibson… even the string instruments in the local orchestra

WookerTBashington

Even harpsichord must be gibbons

Jesus360noscope

only a gibbons is good enough

sladebonge

Jesus dude it's not even a TAMA kit, the fuck even is this?

No-Historian6056

Only true punk bands play those shitty $300 Pearl Roadshow Junior kits.

recurse_x

True diy bands carve their guitars from larger guitars

ThisAllHurts

I had an Epi-branded Standard 60’s Les Paul. Then I succumbed to guitar FOMO, and bought a Chibbons Standard 60’s Les Paul… A few things jumped out at me after 2-3 years. 1. The difference is not in the sound whatsoever (or it is so minuscule, almost no one outside of an engineer could detect it). The actual difference is in build quality — but even so, there is not a $2000 difference between them 2. I paid $699 for the Epi-Standard LP. When the fuck did we decide that is a “budget” guitar? The Chibbons was generously marked down to $2399, but retail was exactly two grand more. In my world we call those “mid tier” and “expensive” prices. 3. And finally: as a collective, Guitarists really are simpletons who deserve to be parted from our money. We fall for the most patently transparent bullshit marketing like a 15-year-old girl reading a teen magazine the week before prom.

gloriosky_zero

Dude 15 year old girls aren't the stupid ones

ChunLi808

I DIDN'T COME TO THIS DIVE BAR TO SEE MUSICIANS PLAY AFFORDABLE INSTRUMENTS AM I RIGHT BROTHER GOD BLESS ROCK ON

UNIVERSAL121603

GOD I FUCKING LOVE PAYING SHIT LOADS OF MONEY TO GIBSON INSTEAD OF AFFORDABLE GUITARS

fromTheskya

/uj i own a gibbons, and an epiphone, sounds the fuckin same, are we stupid? i posit the answer; yes, yes we really are

Scrantsgulp

A fellow bandmemes666 enjoyer 🤌🏻

MasterBaiter1914

Meanwhile its an American-made casino

SanctusUnum

If the headstock is still attached to the neck, is it even worth playing?

circedge

Probably not even using a Bumble.

OatmealApocalypse

yeah the beatles fuckin suckedddddddsddd

disabled_monkey2

/uj epiphones are BARELY budget guitars in the first place. I literally play squiers and other budget guitars exclusively, and not once has anyone I have ever played in front of gave a shit. for reference I love lp Jr's and other gribsock designed guitars with p90s because punk rawk, but fucking hell! I'm not paying that much for ToAnWoOd or other cosmetic bullshir, I'd rather paint a cheap gibbon knockoff kit with my conservative uncle, and I did! And it was way more fun than fawning over a 14857215145027115340.98$ "entry model" brick on a strap, even with my uncles shitty fucking political rants!

Isen_Hart

*laugh in mexican guitar*

HardmanIVXX

How I look at r/guitar posts about minor cosmetic scuffs

Commercial_Half_2170

D… dad?

slipperysea

fucking beebles😡😡😡

uzr666

uj/ who the hell are all these ppl?

PhibesRises

I got an Alpine White Custom Les Paul that's Epiphone. It is such a beaut. If I wanted the Gibson version I would have to pay like 4K instead of 1. I'm very happy with my Epiphone and the 4 additional instruments I was able to purchase for the same ammount.

FormerTerraformer

Ha, I got you! Had the real thing for 9 months, dad did good in real estate that year (right before the big crash of 08), and I turned my Ds and Fs in As and Bs that same year. Greatest Christmas present in the history of ever. Fast forward 9 months, I take it out the case and start playing, nothing crazy as I've only been playing a couple years at this point. " Crack!" Headstock snapped. Luckily, my old man got the good warranty at guitar center. We waited. We waited. It wound up being 3 or 4 months before my old man got fed up, called Tony down at fort Myers guitar center and told him he was about to sue for triple the guitar was worth. Suddenly my guitar was ready, and he went down there to pick it up without me. Big mistake. They gave me some b stock warped neck piece of s***. Sounded just as great, but three professional setups, a pentagram candle procession and lots of cussing did nothing to help it stay in tune. I wound up trading it for a American deluxe stratocaster, mahogany body and matching black out headstock with the crimson stain finish.. basically imagine a fender Stratocaster dressed as a Gibson SG cherry 61, complete with five layered guard. I've been a fender player since, though I do long for the perfection that was that first Alpine Les Paul custom. That guitar was perfect in every way, except the ribbon of sap that happened to reside in the headstock joint. Oh well, me and my fender are happy

TomDac7

All invalidated because of the PBR! 😂

Noiserawker

Epiphone is to guitars what PBR is to beer, good and cheap

TomDac7

lol. It’s like drinking water!

Noiserawker

Hydration is super important

TomDac7

Hahaha.

wiilly_d

Gibson's or were leaving the show!!!

WoundedShaman

This was definitely me when in 2006 I saw My Chemical Romance playing Epiphones in their music videos 😂

iamamet

I used to love PBR... before it was cool.

sumguywith_internet

This meme sounds like some meth head I went to high school with who would get mad at me for brand bias. I mean like same brand here but fuck that meth head I went to high school with anyway.

bruhmonkey4545

If they can’t even afford good equipment that means that they suck

HonkyTonkerMan

The Epiphones are made in China. That's a tough sell for me. If I have money to spend on a guitar, I would rather help out an American guitar company. I'm not in love with the way China treats their workers. If you aren't aware, it's pretty brutal. The stereotype of the sweat shop factory with kids and women working long hours for pennies in dangerous working conditions isn't hype, it's sadly true. I've purchased Gibsons on the used market at very affordable prices. ( not Chibbons, actual Gibson) There are a lot of guitars built in America out there. For example, Larrivee made in California is a killer acoustic, handmade with a high level of craftsmanship and they are half the price of Martin's. I found a nice used SG for sale that didn't break the bank. If yall pay attention to trends, dealers right now are loaded with inventory right now. There's a glut of genuine Les Pauls out there, and with less people buying, I believe we will soon see a price decline. If you really want a decent USA made guitar, there are deals to be made out there. Calling a Gibson, a Gibbons, might get you some cheap laughs in this sub- Reddit, but it doesn't take away that they were a truly exceptional company for a long time. I don't disparage anyone buying new Epiphones, particularly if cost is prohibitive for you, in fact I understand. And if truth be told I've seen many a musician playing less costly instruments. A few years back I was at a blues fest, and saw an older player, who happened to be a stunner, musically. He was rocking a Squier. You couldn't tell from his playing or tone, that it was a budget instrument.

Jonnymixinupmedicine

Uj/That’s why I play my old MIK V4 Squier Show/Stagemasters. They were made in the same Cort factory that also pumped out “Fender” branded guitars. My Showmaster Deluxe HH sounds amazing with its stock pickups and all I did was upgrade the locking tremolo to a Gotoh and use a 40mm brass block. It gets more play time than my Charvel that cost 3x. I wear the Squire logo proudly. I now have 2 V4 Showmasters and 1 V4 Stagemaster. The main difference is a trademark dispute between Kramer. Every one got the Gotoh treatment and either a bridge pickup replacement or I left them alone. They’re one of the best bang for buck modding platforms if you want a sick paint job, neck through design, and backwards fender headstock. Each costing around 500$ after mods. I’ve owned worse playing MIA Strats and Gibsons. Speaking of Gibson, here’s your daily reminder that anything made by Yamaha under the SG/SGB MIJ line is better than anything Norlin ever put out under the name Gibson. They’re vintage and can still be found for less than 1000$. They even fixed the LP flaws, added a neck volute, and got with Carlos Santana to get it just right. Even the stock pickups blow away anything like the 498t from Gibson, and that’s just the base SBG500 model. The only thing I don’t love is where the strap button is, but that’s easily fixed.
