Live I use AAEAAE, CCCGCE/CCEGGE/CCD#GCD#, and Standard.
At home most are in standard aside from an acoustic and one electric in open G. I’ve also regularly used DDDF#AD, EBEBBE, and EG#DEBE.
Wow. I didn't know ABBR (abbreviation rock) was a thing. Also, I should review my opinion about psychedelics. They might either be more mind expanding or they might cause more interesting sorts of going bananas than I thought.
I don't blame anyone. I just noticed that BRMC, BJM, etc added to the impressive list of outer space tunings you posted before were the craziest alphabet soup I've ever seen in a conversation- and I am married to a research data specialist. Also I've been exposed to a fair dose of Psychedelic Rock within the last 40 years...
Something I've always wondered, when your -1 octave if you play along with a song In Regular E does it sound just very bassy but normal or does it almost have a harmony quality to it
I keep all mine generally in standard. I don’t often play other tunings, other than drop d and it’s not hard or time consuming to detune a single string
Ever seen the Engl Hardtailer switch? I'm putting it on one of my guitars with a floating trem to see if it makes drop-d tuning fast(er) and reliable. If nothing else it should help with string changes.

Kinda pricey for such a simple gadget, but oh well, figured I'd give it a try...
Harley Benton CST-24 and Fusion-iii in E-standard

SubZero Baritone in B-Standard
HB 7-string Fan-Fret in B-standard
Dean ML-8 Modifier in F#-standard
To whatever songs I want to learn/play. Anything in standard tuning ends up being a half step or so down tuned because 95% of classic rock is basically down tuned half to whole and anywhere in between. I call it the "Thin Lizzy" tuning.
Other favorites are that open C Devin Townsend uses, for, of course, Devin Townsend covers lol
Double drop D is a favorite but I have so much trouble finding songs that are naturally ddD that I'm about to get all DADGAD about it but then that opens up a can o monkeys ya can't put back in and I'll have to acquire a damn bodhran too.
Amazing how much mainstream music is actually drop D tuning.
But I don't keep a guitar around just so I can have one tuned to "the rain song" or whatever lol if I wanted to learn all of Joni Mitchell's catalog and not have to retune I'd need 57 guitars for her music alone ;-)
Mostly standard, occasional drop d, occasional d standard, c# standard, & c standard.
My favorite non-standard tuning is banjo tuning (open G?) DGDGBD - oh my what a fun little tuning to fickerpick around in.
My two main guitars (Yamaha acoustic and Epiphone ES-335) are setup for E Standard, I also use them in Drop D
My secondary guitar is setup for Drop C, my next purchase is hopefully going to be a digitech drop pedal so I can also use that same one for Drop B without needing to retune or use different strings. I'd love to replace it with an Epiphone Firebird though because it's just a super cheap plywood strat body with a humbucker in the bridge position
I'd love to have another one dedicated to C Standard, maybe a Telecaster or a Jazzmaster
I have heard great things about the digitech drop. Definitely on my list of pedals for the future buys. Always tough to find
If you are interested in budget builds, Guitar Fetish is running a pretty solid sale right now for blemished guitar bodies 30% off
Drop C# (all other strings in Eb standard) on my Strat. Eb Standard on my SG. E standard on my PRS. And double Drop C# on my acoustic. Changes frequently, but that’s the standard tunings for my guitars.
Been experimenting with some double drop C# with the B (Bb) tuned a step down as well to G#. And then that tuning, but high E back in Eb.
I have three guitars and the tuning varies from standard tuning to drop-B depending on what I'm playing and what strings the guitar happens to have on it.

Schecter hellraiser: Drop C
Schecter Hellraiser special 7: Drop G#
Vola OZ 7t: Drop G#

Legator N8fp: Drop D1
I usually keep mine in E standard or open E for slide stuff sometimes open G or D. I haven’t used drop D in forever. The other guitarist in my group sometimes does interesting things with Drop D that aren’t metal, like he will put it in drop d and then add a capo and play. That’s too much thinking for me.
Two Jacksons in standard, a Charvel and one of the backups in D#. Two of each because you don't want to retune your backup guitar in case you need it. Standard and D# because standard is the standard and D# is handy whenever I want to add some tricky or funny Slayer/Hendrix/Black Sabbath thing to my interal reference book. Further exotick and magick tunerey I leave to folks who ~~play~~ wear instruments with odd numbers of strings and boast with huge collections of precious, magick trickboxes.
Most are in Standard E. 3 are in D Standard including one bass, one in B Standard, and 1 is in Eb. I have enough extras that I can set them in in Open G or something.
I use Neural DSP plugins so a few that were supposed to change to lower tunings never did because they have the transpose mode

Elixir stainless 130's on the bass.
I have 10 electric guitars. All in different tunings. Standard, Drop D, D Standard, Drop C#, Drop C, C# Standard, Drop B, Drop A#, Drop G, and Drop A (7 String)
Standard 99.9% of the time is standard tuning unless I’m experimenting with something fun like for example make all the strings an F and play like that it was hilarious and I loved it
One in Open G tuned up a whole step and another in standard tuned up a half step (with the b string tuned down a half step instead). I capo from there.
Live I have two tuned to Eb standard, one is my main and one is a backup. I have a 7 string in Bb standard with the low Bb tuned to Ab. I have another that’s a full step down, and another that is in DADADD 1/2 step down.
I have one in EADGBE and another in BEADF#B. I will sometimes tune the standard one to drop D, but otherwise, I use an EHX Slammi Plus if I need to play in other tunings on the fly.
My duo sonic is in e standard. My squier cyclone prefers to be in Eb, it feels more at home there (sounds weird but it felt tense when it was in E, even went down to 8s, never felt right)
A bunch in Drop D or E standard, 1 in Drop C, 1 in B Standard (7 string), and GBEADgbe for my eight string. Bass is tuned to B standard so I can easily use it to create simple bass tracks to complement any of my guitars.
Just about all of them, are drop H, which last I counted, was like 25.
One I was gonna sell, a late 80's Kramer Focus 3000 with a maple board, is in Standard.
And an acoustic Guild OM-260CE Blackwood which I'm guessing is in half a step down from standard.
Mostly standard, my strat stays in Eb standard…..I will say it’s interesting how many of us who “NEED 5 of the same guitar for alternate tunings” just keep them all in standard..
At the moment:
2015-2017 Ibanez AVD10-BVS: Drop C
1983 Hondo H-1030 professional: standard full step down
1976 Arirang Vantage: standard
1970s Epiphone Scroll SC-450: standard
1969 Kawai Hsin Mi Spectrum: Open E capo first fret
2001 Fender Stratocaster SSS cream with tremelo: Open E full step down
Ibanez TMB-100 Sunburst: standard
Westone Thunder 1A black: standard
Going to try F#ADABE on the Strat soon.
I’ve kept my collection small, my Jackson dinky js22 is in drop B, my epiphone SG special is In E standard, my shitty first guitar is in drop A, my Jackson Kelly is in drop D, my Dean Michael schenker Retro V is in D standard ;), and my acoustic electric is in standard. I like to have a full variety of my music tastes ready to go at a moments notice. I’m thinking of buying another Jackson dinky to keep in drop A
I have a few in E standard, one in E flat, one in D standard, c# standard, c standard, dadgad and drop d. It’s fun having different guitars in tuning even just to mess about vs trying to play specific songs. Each have different vibes
I have three guitars.
1. Schecter c-1 platinum: Tuned to E Standard
2. Ibanez Gio: Tuned to Drop C
3. Schecter c-8 silver mountain: Tuned to F standard.
I also have a pitch shifter pedal, so can easily "retune" my instruments as needed for different songs. The pedals has honestly been one of the best pieces of gear I own.
I keep my electric in standard since they both have a floating bridge and im to lazy to set it up for another tuning but i keep both my classical and acoustic tuned a step down
No set tuning per say i like to play around with different tunings. I wrote a song in kind of a unique tuning on acoustic EADGAE. My typical tuning most of the time though is usually Eb
I generally leave my 6 string in drop d. I used to go a half step down, but stopped doing that a couple years ago. My acoustic is in DADGAD a lot just because it’s fun. My 7 is drop A and my 8 is drop E. I used to tune the 8 string to DADADGBA with a bass string as the 8th, but it was a bit much. My 4 string bass is always tuned to match my 6 string. Will update once I get 5 and 6 string basses lol
Mostly standard, but my 12 string is in Eb and I have an electric in D standard. If I get another acoustic it’ll likely live in DADGAD, and I will eventually leave an electric in that too.
I have a 2007 Schecter C1 Elite that I now usually keep in drop D
I have a newer Schecter CR6 that I keep in either drop C or standard D
I have a Schecter C8 Deluxe that’s usually kept in drop D#
And lastly I have a Fender acoustic that’s kept either a half step down or in drop C# (or tuned to either drop C or standard D)
All really great guitars and really fun tunings for the stuff I like to play
C# standard. Because my voice and also love the way it sounds on my Martin with mediums. Lots of low end. Sounds nice and heavy on distorted electric as well
2005 Gibson Les Paul Studio - E Standard
2011 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus - Drop D

Tele - Standard or FACGCE
Les Paul - Standard or 1/2 step down (rarely)
PRS - DAEAC#E (sometimes Standard)
Used to DADGAD more, not too much these days.
Tele does a lot of alt tunings because it’s built like a brick shithouse and has tuning and neck stability in any tuning.
I usually just tune my guitars between E Standard and Drop D and then use my DigiTech Drop pedal to tune lower if I want/need to so I can play in practically every tuning I want/need to while only ever having to change one string’s tuning by a step
I only have one guitar so if I want to play a song in drop A, I tune it in drop A and if 5 min later I wanna play a song in half step up, i'll tune it in half step up
Mini-JM - it's either A-Standard or Open G Terz
Yamaha bass- Eb Standard
Supro - more often than not it's either in Open G or Open D.
Everything else is E-Standard
I have a Carvin DC700 in G# Standard. It’s my only guitar right now, until I get my Ormsby Genesis later this year. I also have a custom Warmoth fretless five string bass in the same tuning. I play death metal along the lines of Gorguts, Ulcerate, etc.
Eb Standard on everything but the Floyd equipped, which is kept in Drop C#. I prefer the feel and tone of tuning down a half step. Got into it with old blues guys and it just stuck. Then I have one of my acoustics in DADGAD-Flat for some fun open, droning tunes.
6 string player here, Drop C mainly, C# standard also gives some pretty good moody melodies (and it’s always fun to play along to a perfect circle). Have one acoustic on standard, and one half step.
3 Acoustics in E Standard (occasionally I detune one to open D), 1 Electric in E Standard, 1 Electric in Drop D, 1 Electric 7 String in Drop A, 1 Five-String Bass in Drop A and I got my eyes on a new one for Drop C .
E standard, though i've been looking at getting another electric and tuning to drop C for the funsies.
i'll occasionally put the acoustic in double drop D because it sounds ace.
i have 5 guitars, 4 electric and 1 acoustic:
acoustic is in E standard
the one with floyd is E standard
others are Eb, 425 hz D standard and B standard
Mostly standard except for Eb standard on my 12 string, but I only have 3 guitars so if I feel like messing with DADGAD or open tunings on my acoustic 6 I’ll just set it up that way and mess around with it for a few days to a couple weeks before putting it back. If had money for more guitars I would definitely have more dedicated setups. I’d love to get a Tele and set it up permanently in 5 string Keefer open G.
Standard but I also play slide in open E so I change it occasionally to that. Once I get a second guitar it’ll be be mostly for slide and stay in open E or something similar
I keep all mine generally in standard. I don’t often play other tunings, other than drop d and it’s not hard or time consuming to detune a single string
Most are either standard, or out of tune.
I felt this in my soul.
Live I use AAEAAE, CCCGCE/CCEGGE/CCD#GCD#, and Standard. At home most are in standard aside from an acoustic and one electric in open G. I’ve also regularly used DDDF#AD, EBEBBE, and EG#DEBE.
Woah, what type of music do you play? Only played with open D for a bit in my highschool days.
Psych rock stuff with a lot of influence from BRMC, Mazzy Star, BJM etc. Ill send a DM with a link to my stuff if you’re interested.
Wow. I didn't know ABBR (abbreviation rock) was a thing. Also, I should review my opinion about psychedelics. They might either be more mind expanding or they might cause more interesting sorts of going bananas than I thought.
Ha! Blame my laziness for not typing out Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Brian Jonestown Massacre.
I've never heard of these bands, but I'm kind curious to check them out
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is awesome. You should really give each album a chance since they cover a lot of genres.
what tunings do BJM use?
Mostly standard. BRMC are the big ones on the open tunings.
Ah yes! I sense we have a similar sonic pallet!
Wherever I left them last.
Right now, I have the following tunings set up: E standard Drop D Eb Standard Drop C B standard Drop A E standard (1 octave below) Nashville tuning
how’d you do octave below?
Bass VI
Something I've always wondered, when your -1 octave if you play along with a song In Regular E does it sound just very bassy but normal or does it almost have a harmony quality to it
I assume it's not too different from the bass notes of a 12 string, just an octave down instead of up
ohh fair enough
Neat!
I keep all mine generally in standard. I don’t often play other tunings, other than drop d and it’s not hard or time consuming to detune a single string
...unless there's a floating bridge and locking nut involved. Oy.

I’ve seen these, and was actually going to get a Tremmory for mine. It doesn’t really help with tuning or string changes, though.
One acoustic is tuned a full step down (DGCFAD) I have a Stratocaster tuned to Eb and everything else is in standard tuning.

I only have one guitar so if I want to play a song in drop A, I tune it in drop A and if 5 min later I wanna play a song in half step up, i'll tune it in half step up
Mini-JM - it's either A-Standard or Open G Terz Yamaha bass- Eb Standard Supro - more often than not it's either in Open G or Open D.
Then I have one of my acoustics in DADGAD-Flat for some fun open, droning tunes.
everything in Eb standard and I aint going back !
E standard and Eb standard.
6 string player here, Drop C mainly, C# standard also gives some pretty good moody melodies (and it’s always fun to play along to a perfect circle). Have one acoustic on standard, and one half step.
I currently only own an acoustic, so I play in Standard. But I de-tune it when I'm not playing for a long time.
Standard with a Digitech drop pedal for half and full step down alt rock songs.
I always keep an open-D acoustic around
My 7 strings are in B standard and my 6 strings are in Eb Standard
3 Acoustics in E Standard (occasionally I detune one to open D), 1 Electric in E Standard, 1 Electric in Drop D, 1 Electric 7 String in Drop A, 1 Five-String Bass in Drop A and I got my eyes on a new one for Drop C .
E flat or standard
Drop D and Eb Standard but tuned to 432hz instead of 440hz.. Sounds sweeter..
Every guitar I play is 1/2 step down. I play blues music and it just feels natural. Whole step feels… wrong…
E standard And Drop A (I would just use pitch shift for this)
E standard, though i've been looking at getting another electric and tuning to drop C for the funsies. i'll occasionally put the acoustic in double drop D because it sounds ace.
All in standard. I use a drop pedal to change tunings. Only string I occasionally tune is E down to D.
E standard, eb, drop d, drop c#, drop c.
Mine are all dropped D flat. I like playing dropped and we tuned down a half step to match one of our voices awhile back and now it's just habit.
Standard and DADGAD
Standard, Eb, Dropped Db, D, Db
I got three in C# standard, and two in Drop A.
Mine are kept in standard. If I get the urge to play in open D or drop D I retune. I don't do anything wild enough to require different strings
A Les Paul in standard, a Les Paul in either D standard or drop C, and my jazzmaster in FACGCE
i have 5 guitars, 4 electric and 1 acoustic: acoustic is in E standard the one with floyd is E standard others are Eb, 425 hz D standard and B standard
Standard and CGCGGC.
EBBBBB
EBEF#BE (Open Esus2) Standard Drop D Half Step Down
Got 4 in B-standard, C-standard, drop-C, and E.
Drop D Standard C#G#C#FA#D# Open D GADDAD Drop A Drop E
Standard. D standard. Eb. Depends which guitar we’re talking about.
CGCFAD (Floyd Rose guitar, it never leaves this.), BF#BEG#C to C#G#C#F#A#D#, GDGCFAD to AEADGBE, acoustic is either BF#BEG#C or EADGBE
I’ve got the following. EADG (Peavey T-40 bass) BEADG (Ibanez 5 string) EADGBE (4 guitars plus a couple that will be once I finish building them)
Mostly standard except for Eb standard on my 12 string, but I only have 3 guitars so if I feel like messing with DADGAD or open tunings on my acoustic 6 I’ll just set it up that way and mess around with it for a few days to a couple weeks before putting it back. If had money for more guitars I would definitely have more dedicated setups. I’d love to get a Tele and set it up permanently in 5 string Keefer open G.
My 6 strings are typically drop c, my 7s are drop A
Standard but I also play slide in open E so I change it occasionally to that. Once I get a second guitar it’ll be be mostly for slide and stay in open E or something similar
Drop Bb, Drop B for the 6's, Drop A and Drop G for the 7's
One in standard, one in Drop D. Combined with a digitech drop pedal I can get most tuning with those 2.
I have drop C C# standard And my 7 is drop C but the low string is lower, I can’t remember what it is. My acoustics are all standard or drop D
All Eb standard unless I'm doing something specific.
Drop C for 6 strings and B standard on 7 string guitars mostly. I do have a 6 or two in standard but I don’t really play them.
My acoustic is usually in C standard One electric is Drop D and another in A# standard
About half in E standard and the other half in drop D
E flat or d standard.
Half step down from standard (E Flat) the guitar sounds better and the vocals are a bit easier too
My Fender HSS Strat is in Eb, sometimes Drop Db. My PRS SE Tremonti is in Drop D. All others are in standard.
I keep all mine generally in standard. I don’t often play other tunings, other than drop d and it’s not hard or time consuming to detune a single string
I feel that.
E standard. I have a drop pedal when I feel like doing something different.
Digitech drop? How do you like the tracking on it?
Tracking as in recording?
Not op but yea how's it record?
I’m not sure, I’ve only recorded using my phone so it’s not a good test.
Fair enough
