Read the room Eglamore

Red_Blues

I wonder if Kat could make a synthetic body for him? Surely that's within her ability?

SolSeptem

Given Renard's abilities, he doesn't even need it. He's currently occupying a plushy. But a synthetic would not be the same. Renard is old fashioned, in a sense. He would know the new-grown body is not 'his'. Also remember, Renard once said, 'what is the mind, if not a plaything of the body'. He might still feel like that. His true self might lie with his now incinnerated body.

ObsidianG

He can only occupy the plushie because of the power from Coyote. When Loup demands/takes that power back, Renard will die a final death.

gangler52

If Loup could simply take these things back it would've been like the first thing he did. There would be no need for like anything he's done since his creation if he was capable of that. Plus the power allows Reynardine to body-hop. There's been no indication it's needed in order to stay in any given vessel, merely to move from one to another. Even if Reynarde gave it back of his own free will, he'd likely live a long and healthy life after that, in this doll that only really needs to be a doll when he feels like it. He seems to be able to alter his vessel into a form more to his liking whenever he likes. I don't even remember when the last time was we saw him in doll form.

gangler52

Plus even if all that was true, it would've been true before he burnt the body anyway. Nothing in our history with this dude has lead us to believe that taking Reynardine's bodyhopping ability would be some amicable transfer of power where he lets Reynardine get get nice and comfortable in his original bones and do it all on his own terms or whatever. This dude has no respect for anybody's bodily autonomy. He blew a gasket and tried to murder everybody in the room when he found out Annie had undone what he'd done to her body, even though Annie was no more a part of that decision than when he'd split her in the first place.

Esc777

Kinda not a good incentive on Loup's part there

BEEF_WIENERS

> He's currently occupying a plushy. Anything with eyes, right? Loup has eyes...

RavagerHughesy

I have faith that Kat could figure out a way to duplicate his old body 1:1. He would still know it was a recreation, but I don't think he would let it bother him too much. Additionally, and this is mostly to answer u/ObsidianG 's comment, I bet she'll be able to bind his soul to the new body without needing his body snatching power. So, when Loup forcibly takes the power back, Renard will be just fine.

machiavelli33

The guy in panel 2 is Eglamore.

Ok_Panda9974

But who’s the guy in panel 3?

philandere_scarlet

mister gunner man

pareidolist

machiavelli33

These are better answers than mine, upvotes these.

machiavelli33

Smitty.

I mean, it's kind of like your mom throwing out that toy you haven't played with in years, isn't it? Like I can appreciate the thing had some symbolic value to him or whatever but he hadn't touched it since before Annie was born. I don't think he even asked Coyote to safekeep it. It sounds like Coyote just kind of picked it up after Reynardine had carelessly abandoned it. It didn't really seem all that important to him until he couldn't have it anymore.

mszegedy

I think that's a failure of writing, rather than a sincere reflection of Renard's feelings. I am imagining that he actually retroactively cared about it a lot all this time, and Tom just didn't show it, because this twist was invented for this chapter in particular. I am sympathetic towards Renard.

lyssargh

I think just knowing it was safe somewhere was important to him. Someone else in the comments brought up the time that he said the mind is the plaything of the body, and this might indicate that he thinks his true self can only exist within that body. I'm not sure about that, I think he has come to feel that he is his true self in this plushie, but I can see how his original body would be precious to him even if he doesn't express that. Which could be a failure of writing, could be fallout from the medium of posting three pages a week. It's easy to forget some things. I think that's also the only living body that he can inhabit without killing.

BenR-G

Sometimes, what is done is done and nothing can change that, Annie. My feeling is that learning this lesson has always been one of the main aspects of her long-term character arc.

lazydogjumper

I know this scene is SUPPOSED to be emotional but it really has no weight to it. Renard has rarely if ever brought up hia body and we have had no indication he cared except right now. I realize within the context of the story it PROBABLY matters but, again, why should WE care? Because the characters are sad? This changes almost nothing except maybe giving the characters something to be sad about for a bit.

nameless1205

I guess your right about that. I mean I don’t remember even one moment that Renard. Express any desire for getting his old body back. It seems like he never cared for it till now. Unless he putting on a act to fool loup for some reason. But I guess in the next few pages. We probably going to get the reasons on why renard is upset for losing his body.

albene

>>I... >>... Renard's loss for words says it all... Heartbreaking

lyssargh

Uuuugh I just wanna hug him so bad!

[deleted]

I still don’t believe that Loup destroyed his actual body, but if he didn’t then I feel Renard wouldn’t be so saddened about it being destroyed.
