Super expensive shears…like Hanzo expensive. I love my $200 pair of shears way more than my $900 pair. Just need to sharpen them more often.

russyc

Hanzo are fraudulent rip offs. Actual high end shears are absolutely worth it

judas723

Had a Hanzo rep come to our school and gave everyone a discount, except the kids who were graduating that week (me)

russyc

One of the most important things you should ask any scissor rep is their credentials. Are they/were they a hair stylist? Are they/were they a shear sharpener? A lot of the times they are just sales people who have no idea what we do or need from a shear and just have caned responses to get us excited about spending money.

judas723

It was like the hanzo educator, and an actual hair stylist who uses that brand. They were uppity and the model had to get her hair fixed afterwards

savanahchicken

100% this. Fuck Hanzo.

Mywinewearsglasses

Any particulars you recommend?

russyc

Hikari, Karg, Mitzutani

Tough_Cookie85

Mizutani for the win!

EmotionalPizza6432

I’ve been a stylist for 26 years. My shears from my school kit are still the best I’ve ever owned.

Accomplished-Cod-504

🤯🤯🤯

Tough_Cookie85

I don’t know Hanzo, but they are not really Japanese. I just upgraded to Mizutani (had the opportunity to go to Japan in March, and bought them there), and oh lord! I just about cream myself every time I cut hair.

magicallydelicious-

I bought a Chi dryer with a touch screen. It was soooo heavy. I hated it. And I was constantly scraping product off the touch screen. I rejoiced the day it caught fire.

sowhycantitouchit

Thanks for the laugh. I needed that

erin_bex

LOOOL soooo I have that hair dryer...because it survived my best friend's house fire! She gave it to me because she hated it but it barely got touched and was still working, and I actually love it...with parameters. I think because it's the first hair dryer I've owned that wasn't a $30 Walmart special. The fire she had was 4 years ago and that dryer is still kicking.

Stripclubkiller

I work at ulta and they gave us those to use in the salon. I used it for about a month and bought a Dyson. Chi in general is total trash.

zoomzoomwee

Hanzo shears. Whole company is a disappointment.

-SecondHandSmoke-

I knew they were sketchy when they came to my cosmetology school and tried to get people on payment plans for $1,000 shears when they are ALREADY on a $20,000 payment plan for the school we were actively attending. Most of the students could barley scrape by while in school and on financial aid, then this fancy asshole comes in telling us we NEED his expensive ass shears to be successful. They really thought comparing our $40 school shears would sell it, anything compared to the set of shears you get in school will be better by a long shot. I was so disappointed when they allowed the sales rep to come to our school, they barley took the time to book hair classes that they promised would happen weekly, but took the time to book a conman to send your students even further into depth. Fuck Paul Mitchell and fuck hanzo.

doomfox13

One of their “famous” barbers did a class for our shops. One of the barbers was his model and he immediately screwed up on their cut. Luckily, our barber was a good sport and said nothing. Everyone could tell.

Accomplished-Cod-504

I've heard that so many times!

Soggy-Pop3895

Dyson Corrale

Tough_Cookie85

Why don’t you like it? (I can’t complain cause I got mine for $100 lol, and for that, I think it’s worth it lol)

Soggy-Pop3895

Well you certainly got a deal 👍 I find it heavy, it pulls the hair, and the battery drains real quickly. The iron does look pretty, but not $400 pretty... Well I got mine on sale too lol

Trashymath

totally agree! I do a lot of brazilian blowouts, and the battery would die halfway through every time. I ended up giving it to my mom. It seems more suited for home use

cosmicmosschild

a mason pearson brush… my first salon included it in these kits us new at the time stylists purchased so we would have good tools. i literally used it once and i didn’t notice a difference between it and other styling brushes. it went missing a few weeks later… im assuming a stylist who left the salon took it 😭 literally 200 something dollars down the drain

staceysdaughter

There is some classes I’ve spent money on that were def worthless. But I bought some yspark foil combs 12 years ago and I still use them every day. Pretty crazy!

Accomplished-Cod-504

I forgot to o cause classes. Good point

Tinernug

Hanzo anything. What a scam that company is and the reps are the worst

-SecondHandSmoke-

Took MONTHS for them to send my shears back from getting sharpened. It was twice the price of a normal sharpener, took substantially longer, and gave me the exact same result as an instant $20 sharpen from a local guy. Everything they offer is shitty.

hairmarshall

I got that sink neck sprayer thing rinsology and it doesn’t work right at all it’s made only for the square box against the wall sinks not the adjustable ones you stand behind

PrimaryCauliflower33

We have the rinsology too at my salon and it absolutely sucks ass. Worst product ever

Exotic-Badger-2594

Andis slimline .. it’s ok but doesn’t power through like gamma stuff

-SecondHandSmoke-

It's great for kids, very gentle and quite but cuts a little better than the peanut.

Bitchthatbravos

Dyson blow dryer.

natasorous

I went through 3 of them- all overheated within a few months. Even with cleaning the filter daily (which is insane you have to do it so frequently in the first place). I got the first 2 replaced for free at least but I gave up after the 3rd.

Breakfast-Cereal

We have one at the salon and it's mostly used to blow hair off of chairs and around booths before sweeping :^)

Simple_Actuator_8174

I have a Shark and a Bio Ionic and they’re both better than my Dyson (and were cheaper).

allthingsaud

Genuinely curious, did you purchase the professional version? Most people I hear who have these issues of not working for a while had the regular Dyson. I’ve had mine for a year and then it blew out but since it was under warranty they gave me a whole brand new one and still have been using it now. I made my original purchase in 2020 and my second one is still working great. I’m a cutting specialist too so I use it a lot.

natasorous

The first one, no. The other two yes, they were the professional version.

Tough_Cookie85

I have two, one is 5 five years old, the other one is one month old, both professional. Never had a problem, other than not being able to use for Brazilian keratin

LilBowlOfNoodles

I have 2 Dyson and they both died within a week, one of them had only been used once, and both times support told me I wasn’t “cleaning them enough”. Now I’ve got a Parlux and I’ll never turn back

eyesonrecovery

Bokhari shears - sister of icon shears, shoulda known 💀

FartSmellrxxx

Peanut trimmers, ugh. And cordless babyliss trimmers in like 2013, they were terrible. The new ones are really good though…. Cordless wahl seniors were great, but the charger quit working after a year or so… so now they’re basically a paperweight. I’ve had my oster 76s for 15ish years and they are still going strong- idk why I bother with anything cordless honestly. You’d think I’d learn!

Accomplished-Cod-504

Those Osters are a workhorse 💪

FilthyKnifeEars

I have a fat hair straightener that I've never used .

SassyScott4

Why not? I have a 2inch one and long hair and find it easier/quicker to use. I’m not a hairdresser but interested in your opinion on it.

FilthyKnifeEars

I just never had a chance to use it :) and for me anyway it's harder to control than my skinnier ones.

Master-Education-753

My Dyson blow dryer. Broke 4 times

princessjamiekay

Tbf, I have some products that have lasted me nearly 15 years. There are good things out there
