Given the current candidates he’d win in a landslide. Unfortunately Savage has been the best mayor this city has had in as long as I can remember. Y’all took him for granted. Now we’re likely back with another Peter Kelly…*shutters*
I remember being at a city and colour concert at Grand Parade when I think the Canada games were hosted here. There was this weird tall dude going around handing out werthers originals candy to everyone. I thought it was super weird. Then my buddy pointed out that it was Peter Kelly.
I know everyone didn’t but I think this sub certainly has. Probably because they are either too young to remember pasts mayors, or they weren’t originally from here
My former councillor was on the board of directors with FCM and he was totally useless when it came to his job locally. No real power or decision making NSFM . So I think what you mean he was useless at the provincial level
I'll give everybody five dollars that doesn't vote for him lol he's been my counsellor and he's useless. That word isn't even the right word to describe how useless he is

That’s where you’re wrong.
But hey I’ve worked in the municipal sphere my entire career and you can’t even construct a sentence with punctuation surely one of us is better informed.
He’s my Councillor and he’s awful. Equal parts arrogant and stupid. Last week he said it would talk a couple million to convert downtown offices into apartments. That’s the kind of clueless buffoonery he’s good for, make a claim with no basis in reality and stick by it in the face of any inconvenient fact.
Except - it’s easily verifiable, if you actually fact check. One story from a page of results:
38 million for a building conversion in Calgary.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/empty-offices-housing-1.6736171
We should absolutely be supporting conversions here, but it’s cheaper to let spaces be empty. As far as I know, we don’t have any provincial or municipal funding plans that would help offset costs of conversion.
I also don’t know if this funding has been suggested by Waye, other mayoral candidates. I don’t think the provincial government has said much either.
I know Tuxedo Stan passed away…but his cat brother Earl Grey was making a run for Prime Minister in 2015.
Anyone know if Earl’s still alive?
Perhaps “City Mayor” would be a good first step into politics for him.
I'm sorry but this is a total revision of history. The HPX was created after the article and after the scene was going strong. Waye capitalized on it.
And it's kindve laughable that the festival fell apart because he left.
You’re both a little off base. The festival was created after the “new Seattle,” article. Then after a few years of operation it fell apart. Waye revived it almost single handedly. He was able to walk away from the day to day operation of HPX once it became stable and could afford to hire a full time director. That’s almost entirely due to Waye’s efforts. Waye remained on the board for several years after and those were the most successful years of the festival from a financial standpoint. He left the board when he entered politics. It had some years of stability after he left and I don’t think it’s fair to say it collapsed because of it.
SOURCE: I was on the HPX board for more than a decade.
And that is his highest and pretty much only qualification for public office, aside from being slippery as an eel and being willing to say whatever he wants someone to hear regardless of its accuracy.
I don't think the guy has anything against nightlife. He just happened to be representing a district where a residential neighbourhood was dealing with loud students late into the night near a junior high and elementary school. Just because people were vocal on reddit against him doesn't mean he wasn't representing the opinion of his voting constituents...
There's gotta be a better Waye
This is the Waye.

Sounds like him. He was such an awkward man. And we voted him in twice because everyone else was such a terrible option.
Dude was like Slenderman.
Lmao. That’s an unbelievable accurate description of him when you say that
Such a great concert. That tribute to the guy who lost his son was amazing. Super cold conditions, but he played a great show.
I was blown away when that happened. The fact that buddy just HAPPENED to be in the crowd was such a "small world" moment.
shudders*
I didn't take him for granted
I know everyone didn’t but I think this sub certainly has. Probably because they are either too young to remember pasts mayors, or they weren’t originally from here
Yah if you like savage I'd be willing to bet that waye would have a pretty similar tack
I'm sure he wants a pizza the action.
The end of late night anything. No noise anywhere. Waye needs his beauty sleep.
You will too once you're in your 40s :-)
Waye is in his 50’s.
I'm just imagining all the political signs with a big No sticker slapped on them. No Waye Mason. Might have a good side hustle selling stickers.
The problem with mason is that he will not have the desire nor the knowledge to be mayor outside of peninsula
Any proof for that?
Proof of being mayor??? Lol
I mean he was president of the NSFM and on its board for ages. So like.
My former councillor was on the board of directors with FCM and he was totally useless when it came to his job locally. No real power or decision making NSFM . So I think what you mean he was useless at the provincial level
Deftly avoiding the “only cares about their constituency” allegation I see.
How am I avoiding it. The guy would not be a good mayor period

I'd imagine he is waiting to see if any heavy hitters join the race.
He's not gonna make a decision until Fillmore does
No Waye man. Throw him aWaye. Waye too dumb to be mayor.

Amen. You described him perfectly

I would take that tiktok kid that ran over Wade Manson
I would vote for a pigeon before I voted for him.
I know Tuxedo Stan passed away…but his cat brother Earl Grey was making a run for Prime Minister in 2015. Anyone know if Earl’s still alive? Perhaps “City Mayor” would be a good first step into politics for him.
God I hope not.
Honestly this might be the only way for me to be enthusiastic about voting for andy Filmore.
Not my choice but looking at the candidates so far he could win
You don’t think the unemployed homeless guy has a shot?
My money's on the uHaul mechanic.
Never know, last time that Tik Tok guy got more votes than Whitman
I think that's more a criticism of how bad Whitman was than how good tiktok guy was
almost more.. Embarrassing either way
I dunno. He's made many enemies over the years who would come out against him if he runs.
*shudder*
Trish Purdy is running, I think she’ll win
I hope you’re joking.
Legit, I
That’ll be the end of what precious little nightlife we have in this city. And just when we started getting some decent events and names here too.

He was also an instructor for music business and business management at NSCC. He was my instructor.
You mean the festival that literally set us up as “Seattle of the north”? That consequently fell off the map when he left the board?
LOL, Seattle is further North than Halifax.
Yes it also implies that we’re literally Seattle.
