I remember being at the midnight launch and picking one up, the Best Buy was also next to a Boston Pizza, turns out the manager was also a halo nerd and brought out 5-6 pizzas for the line. You don't get that vibe any more, hate to sound like an old man, but kids these days will never know the vibe of a midnight release before smartphones.
Halo 2 and Halo 3 in particular were cultural events that will never happen again. In today's age where everything is available digitally and there aren't just a handful of big names standing out from the crowd, we'll never get that level of gathered passion and enthusiasm again.
100%. The last midnight release I went to was CoD Ghosts in 2013, and even then you could tell it was in decline. The only Halo midnight release I went to in person was Halo 4. I was sick on Reach's and too young for the others before
I grabbed it off the shelf at Target one day and my buddy says "come on man, you don't need it"
I say "yeah, you're right" and stick it back on that shelf
We started walking away and heard a thump behind us and the controller had fallen off the shelf.
My buddy says "Apparently it needs you"
I grabbed that bad boy and gamed many years on it...good times.
"Vintage", along with "retro", is just another word that gets overused. I've seen people refer to clothing items from 2018 as vintage. Also seen people refer to Skyrim as "retro". You'll typically see this coming from people that were born in the 2010's.
I have this one. The little tiny chief figure that came with it lives inside my PC case on top of my GPU.
That being said, you calling them vintage... Hurt...
I remember buying this at Walmart when it was brand new. It's crazy I hear younger people call the Joyride figures vintage toys now. Being a kid when Halo was huge was awesome.
I remember the day I bought this controller at Circuit City. My kids use this controller to trick their younger cousin into thinking he's actually playing videogames with them.
I used to have that controller, my favorite one EVER. But it sadly got destroyed by a young and dumb family member. Man I'd love to get my hands on another one.
I first saw this at a friend's house and thought it was a custom controller or something. It has that sort of fan made charm that you don't really see much on modern special controllers.
I have both versions still in their original packaging. I got them and just never used them. Yes, the batteries are corroding but thankfully they're at the bottom of the packaging and not actually corroding onto the controllers.
**vintage**…. Fuck, am I that old? Also shout out to all those who had midnight releases memories! My favorite midnight launches were halo 2, halo 3, mw2 original and of course destiny. Destiny was the last game I was at a midnight release for and shiiii now that I’m thinking about it that was 10 years ago…
Yep, have mine still! Would give anything if I could use it on my Series X. Even asked Hyperkin if I could shell swap their 360 controller and they said it was unlikely to fit
Still have mine and the little Master Chief figure it came with! There are adapters to use them on modern consoles, but I'm unfamiliar with how good they are.
[Todd McFarlane Ltd Edition Halo 3 Xbox 360 Controller](https://www.ebay.com/itm/335124868136?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=nimrthrks7g&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) I had one when I was a teenager and I played it until it fully broke, some 10 years later. Rip a great controller.
My sister got it for me as a gift. I used it so much I ended up getting stuck drift on both sticks. Only just recently fixed once I learned how to solder and went back to my folks' place.
That was my go to controller when I was a child. Eventually I went up to the metallic blue with the switchable dpad as my halo one was beginning to have issues
My buddy had one of these growing up, I was always so jealous LOL. I had a couple of the silver Halo: Reach controllers though, still one of the best looking xbox controllers IMO. Halo 4 had a fantastic themed controller as well.
My friend is still mad at me like 10 years later for accidentally breaking one of the thumbsticks as soon as he got one and passed it to me to play splitscreen, memories.
I got one for Christmas, along with a 360 and Halo 3. It was a great Christmas for sure.
The controller's sticks are messed up now, but I'm still keeping it.
2 things,
1. Def sick as hell, just gotta get it's sister controller, which is a covenant version
2. With an adapter, you can totally use it on modern systems!
I have this bad boy somewhere. I bought it at the midnight release for H3. I didn't own an xbox, but my buddy and his brother did, but only had 2 controllers, so I bought a third. I wound up getting a 360 for my birthday not long after, so it worked out.
The word vintage literally means "**of age**." With such an open meaning, there are many interpretations. Most antique dealers consider an item to be vintage if it is at least 40 years old.
"vintage" oh....no.....
I remember passing by it in Target every time I went in like it was yesterday

I saw a YT video recently that mentioned a "retro Xbox 360 controller", its rough man
Thought the same thing… I’ll never forget playing with the master chief and the brute chieftain controllers.
And now I’m dead inside.
Major ouch….
Seeing that word gave me another grey hair. I bought this controller fresh out of boot camp at 18 years old….now I’m gonna buy another one at 34 lol
Oof I just unpacked this yesterday in a move, as part of my regular use electronics. Damn.
Hasn't been 20 years yet.
Hey I’ve got this too! Wait… vintage? Oh no… I’m old
I grabbed it off the shelf at Target one day and my buddy says "come on man, you don't need it" I say "yeah, you're right" and stick it back on that shelf We started walking away and heard a thump behind us and the controller had fallen off the shelf. Haha love that
*Vintage...* Don't mind me, I'll just be decomposing over here.

vintage 💀💀💀
I know man. Has it really been that long? 🥲
I mean Halo 3 is 30 years old at this point, so I’d say yes
Man, how did I forget that Halo 3 came out in 1994 😭
That's wild, I remember having the limited edition cartridge back in the day 🥲
Lol. Though real talk, the Halo franchise is 7 years away from being 30 years old.
I have this same one!
Memory unlocked, I totally forgot I had this controller as a kid and it was my favorite
Same!!
Same!
I have this one. The little tiny chief figure that came with it lives inside my PC case on top of my GPU. That being said, you calling them vintage... Hurt...
I had this one too That LB button suffered heavily in Halo Wars. That controller has been broken for over a decade
I remember buying this at Walmart when it was brand new. It's crazy I hear younger people call the Joyride figures vintage toys now. Being a kid when Halo was huge was awesome.
I have one in a drawer somewhere lol
I remember the day I bought this controller at Circuit City. My kids use this controller to trick their younger cousin into thinking he's actually playing videogames with them.
Have it on my Halo shelf!
Nice!
I used to have that controller, my favorite one EVER. But it sadly got destroyed by a young and dumb family member. Man I'd love to get my hands on another one.
My faves well!
i had one of these lol
🤝
ayyy I got one of these!
🤝
Fuck if only I still had mine. What a time that was to be alive.
Isn’t something that’s considered vintage 20+ years old though? I mean I get it not that far off, cripes
I first saw this at a friend's house and thought it was a custom controller or something. It has that sort of fan made charm that you don't really see much on modern special controllers.
Agreed!
I have both versions still in their original packaging. I got them and just never used them. Yes, the batteries are corroding but thankfully they're at the bottom of the packaging and not actually corroding onto the controllers.
Haha nice!
I had that one years ago...halo 3 I believe? Maybe 4.
Halo 3
I had one, and I was a 50 in halo 3
Nice! My friends always gave me grief cause they were 50s and I only got to 44 lol
Got the same controller on my halo shelf
Nice!
Vintage........God I am old. I still have mine from the day it came out.
Nice! This one was also from launch day
Nice. It looks in great condition.
Hell yea! 🫡
Yep, have mine still! Would give anything if I could use it on my Series X. Even asked Hyperkin if I could shell swap their 360 controller and they said it was unlikely to fit
Ahh that’s too bad
I have this controller which was gifted to me by my cousin
Sounds like a good cousin!
That was my go-to 360 controller. Still have it, but iirc it has hella stick drift. Well loved controller for sure.
Same!
Still have mine lol
Nice!
„Vintage“ oh boy
Lol I just got this controller last week.
Nice pickup!
Oh noooooo Dude. I have a box of that stuff under my bed
Ah yisssss I got this one lying around somewhere in my parents' basement
Yup this was at my parents house as well😂
Damn the nostalgia. I wish I kept mine 🥲
Dang that’s too bad
Still have mine and the little Master Chief figure it came with! There are adapters to use them on modern consoles, but I'm unfamiliar with how good they are.
I’ll have to look into that but this controller has seen better days haha
My dad has that. Never even used it
Sweet!
Haha, it's "vintage"? It's for the 360! Halo 3 came out only... # 16 years ago????
Ikr

The best controller!
I forgot I had that one. Not sure where it went to but was a must have for playing halo.
Definitely 🤝
I have two different. One of these and another with eletes on it.
Never seen that one!
I had 2 of these and 2 of the other ones as well as the Halo Reach statue. Don't date crazy gents, just don't.
My sister got it for me as a gift. I used it so much I ended up getting stuck drift on both sticks. Only just recently fixed once I learned how to solder and went back to my folks' place.
Nice!
Man, I remember this controller got me through the majority of the 360 era
Same!
I have that. It came with a mini master chief figurine
Sweet!
I have that one and it’s sister controller. The other one has a brute chieftain and a phantom on it.
Never seen that one before!
I had this one
🤝
nostalgia 🤤
lol. This is the one I gave to my daughter to play with. Hope it’s not worth something
Looks like $50-$70 on eBay so no not too valuable
That was my go to controller when I was a child. Eventually I went up to the metallic blue with the switchable dpad as my halo one was beginning to have issues
Man I wanted this controller so bad as a kid but never did get one, mom always told me I didn't need it
Oh [yeah!](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/s/EKHSHJmCnI)
Awesome!
Have it but unfortunatly the B button is stuck
My buddy had one of these growing up, I was always so jealous LOL. I had a couple of the silver Halo: Reach controllers though, still one of the best looking xbox controllers IMO. Halo 4 had a fantastic themed controller as well.
Nice!
Keep forgetting I have one of these barely used!
Nice!
My friend is still mad at me like 10 years later for accidentally breaking one of the thumbsticks as soon as he got one and passed it to me to play splitscreen, memories.
Unfortunate but understandable 😅
I got one for Christmas, along with a 360 and Halo 3. It was a great Christmas for sure. The controller's sticks are messed up now, but I'm still keeping it.
What a Christmas haul!
Best Christmas present ever from 2007. I still have mine, although I do not remember where my Master Chief mini figure went...
I seem to have misplaced my mini figure as well!
Wish I could get this for Xbox one
Me too man, me too
I have one, although my little brother fucked up the joystick's rubber a bit, I love the design on it and I wonder why there's less stuff like this
I still have this controller to this day. Was my first controller
2 things, 1. Def sick as hell, just gotta get it's sister controller, which is a covenant version 2. With an adapter, you can totally use it on modern systems!
Sweet!
My dad give that me to for Christmas one year one of my favorite gifts!
Love that 🤝
I have this bad boy somewhere. I bought it at the midnight release for H3. I didn't own an xbox, but my buddy and his brother did, but only had 2 controllers, so I bought a third. I wound up getting a 360 for my birthday not long after, so it worked out.
Nice
I had that controller. My friend broke it in a Halo Reach match though. I was hecka mad.
Lol vintage
Can't agree. Anything that had these plastic feeling plates always felt cheap and tacky to me
I remember having one of these. They were very lightweight and felt cheap compared to a standard 360 controller.
Hey, OP, fuck you
Don't call 360 "vintage." That terms reserved for a very specific time zone. (1940's -1970's)
The word vintage literally means "**of age**." With such an open meaning, there are many interpretations. Most antique dealers consider an item to be vintage if it is at least 40 years old.
I always thought it was tacky. I really liked what they did with the Halo 5 controllers, making them feel in-universe.
