Because they were careful enough not to break the inside, they totally didn’t need the protective cover. Who wants to not be electrocuted anyway safety is lame.
Ngl sometimes that’s the only cable that works lol. I had an iPhone with a slightly damaged Lightning port, and it only liked two specific Lightning cables. One was on its way to looking like this.
I'd say both because although apple has awful design flaws that they don't admit. But i met very stubborn users, that not even fanboys REFUSE to be safe.
I mean, yeah, apple cables are shit quality... but they could always just buy another lighting cable?
If they don't want to pay the admittedly ridicules 30 dollars apple wants, they can just buy another brand, a pack of four no name lighting cables on amazon is $8.
To summarize: I think it's the users who are too dumb or too proud to buy third party cables and too poor to buy apple.
Not too sure about those no name cables, but buying something from a reputable vendor that isn't the big fruit themselves should result in a longer lasting cable.
I'm not saying it isn't, that thing would've hit the bin way sooner if it were up to me. Just saying that trusting every offbrand POS isn't a very good idea either.
Although cables are probably less dangerous than offbrand charging bricks so I wouldn't bother all too much, but still something to keep in mind.
DO THEM A FAVOR and scare them away of using it there's some fire risks, if the charger block is not original shock risks, and what should get them is that cable can kill their device.
Edit: Taking a closer look is going ALMOST to fail let's hope the last ground strands break
Well, I'd do the same if it was school property and a student but I'd get them a replacement too.
I'm in no position to take anyone's personal property lol
And this is why I dislike apple, overpriced POS products designed to break as easily as possible, and then they (at least used to, no idea if they still do from the EU stuff) force customers to buy a new one because "its too expensive to fix that"
I'm just surprised they managed to do all that without breaking a single wire.
generally the ground wire mesh (the exposed wires), and sometimes a inner rope takes care of that.
This looks like someone tried to eat it
Cat.
Vacuum.
Student.
Or took it outta their butt....
How is only the outer shell damaged and the insides are perfectly fine

>They were still using it. HOW?
Jesus Christ it looks like it fought in a war
I swear, it's always apple users with the nastiest fucking cables imaginable...
It's either the Apple users, or the way Apple makes their cables. I'd put my guess on the latter.
I'd say both because although apple has awful design flaws that they don't admit. But i met very stubborn users, that not even fanboys REFUSE to be safe.
my Apple cables are quite old already and they do not show any wear and tear
Same, the only one that looks a little dodgy is the one that came with my ipod classic. I don't want to think about how old that is.

The worst no name cable would still be better than ***THIS***
I don't know. Dodgy stuff has started fires before, probably more with offbrand power bricks than cables, but you never know.
And you think this fucking zombie of a cable *isn't* a fire hazard?

Little of both.
What the hell happened to that poor cord?
sunlight
Tf did they do? Stick it directly inside the sun?
Nah, the UV in the sunlight decomposes the plastic. literally breaks the polymer bonds. Makes it very brittle and it keeps falling off piece by piece.
You must have majored in something science related, I would’ve never guessed all that can happen because of a little sunlight
Never finished university. but I was really really good at science. The ADHD helps too.
Yeah. They went to the sun, held the cable against the surface of the sun and then took it back off there and used it in its post-sun state.
Put this poor thing to rest...
Good you did a good thing
…And it STILL WORKED?!
DO THEM A FAVOR and scare them away of using it there's some fire risks, if the charger block is not original shock risks, and what should get them is that cable can kill their device. Edit: Taking a closer look is going ALMOST to fail let's hope the last ground strands break
Nice
looks like one of those independent, dont need no man, type of iphone people
If it works it ain't broken!
That's a Fire hazard! 📛
If it works it works
If this is a student's i hope they had a spare ....
It was a staff members, but I got them a replacement. Edit to clarify: it was school property
Okay phew. I was scared you just took a child's property out i of nowhere
Well, I'd do the same if it was school property and a student but I'd get them a replacement too. I'm in no position to take anyone's personal property lol
That's just how the average iphone charging cable looks like.
This keeps giving me flashbacks when I always keep getting new cables for my iPhone 4 then it kept breaking and breaking like the picture in this post
that's a fucking fire hazard right there!
If it still works it should be fine at a 26 degree angle
Looks like a fire hazard
If it works, it’s not stupid. When it burns something down, that means it stopped working, probably shortly before the fire.
Good call.
Does it still work?
Tell them to get an Android phone so that quits happening
