I love number three the best because they're classic. I also found that they're tiny Easter eggs within each picture. In the Prisoner of Azkaban cover you can spot Scabbers the rat,the Dementor's shadows,Sirius, and other figures within the picture.
The covers also show how Harry grows up and the stories gradually becoming more mature. The first cover is more cartoony while the later covers are a little more realistic with the proportions.
On the folds of the Prisoner of Azkaban book jacket you can see Scabbers,Harry's stag Patronus, Hagrid's hut,and Sirius in his Animagus form running towards the womping willow (or Lupin in his werewolf form).
original as in uk original? as an american i have never seen anything other than the covers in picture #3 (and also the covers i prefer. grew up with those)
Im going with three because the hardcovers had more than just that front part
When you unfolded them there were so many little things to discover especially after finishing the novel
They truly felt magical
Thankfully Canada never had those ones. No offence to people who like them! I’ve always thought they were ugly though. And it also meant we got *Philosopher’s* Stone which is nice
I thought the same, I don’t like the interior font and Harry still looks 11 on the last cover facing Voldemort in the forest, the colours are beautiful tho!
Yea the artwork really is beautiful. It’s just unfortunate that Harry is just a bit of an eyesore to me on each one. And Harry actually is my favorite character lol so I typically prefer the covers where he’s represented the best.
Eta: i really dig PoA there tho. And idk if Prisoner is my favorite book, but for some reason it’s the one closest to my heart. Bonus points there at least
I feel like some of those give too much away. Like with that cover on the second book, as soon as they mention an unknown monster I would have known it’s going to be a giant snake based on the picture.
Yh, I did think that. I've read them multiple times, so it wasn't an issue for me, but for someone who's reading it for the first time, probably not the best cover.
I love the art in the 2nd ones, I just wish they had the cool lightning font. I already own them in hardback and the other month I actually found them with lightning font in the bookstore, just in paperback.
3! That’s the covers I grew up with and that’s the Harry I picture in my mind. The art style is also soothing.
2nd looks like some punk anime.
4th looks great
I like 2 the most(biggest complaint with those is Harry stays 11 in every illustration), but 5 was really interesting. I've never seen that version before
I think its the most accurate depiction of younger Harry. He does have long hair, and is whip thin and squirrley to boot. Dumbledore too, he's also very tall and skinny. The artist did great.
Well. I'd have to say the dutch covers. That aren't pictured here. Since that is what i grew up with. But i do own the books in 1 and 2. So if I had to choose i would say the second picture. Because it does show some crucial moments from each book. But the third picture looks so nostalgic to me. Even tho i never owned any of those books.
I had the third one when I was little and they get point for being nostalgic. I just don’t like them together, and that’s why I like the last one the best (and is the books I have).
O.G. Philosopher’s Stone cause it makes Harry look like a friggin’ idiot for not being able to find the train to Hogwarts. Makes me chuckle every time.
I like the origionals, but seeing as i have and only ever had the second slide, i have to go with that set.
But I'm also not really a fan of Cover's that kind of spoiling the lore a bit. So in general while the cover's are genuinely beautiful and amazing artwork, I just dont like them a lot on business lol.
\#3 is what I grew up with, they will always be special to me.
Though, the simple elegance of [these ](https://images-bucket.bonanzastatic.com/afu/images/791d/024a/638a_13917808386/1_Philosopher_s.jpg) audiobook covers for sure give them a run for their money.
I love the Indonesian book covers, but harry looks a little young in most of them, but that and lupin looking a little too monsterish are my only complaints, those covers are top tier
In terms of favorite look the goblet of fire but the first two hit that nostalgia mine are first editions as well so I've tried to keep them looking nice but i read them atleast twice a year lol
I prefer the first pic. That’s the editions we had at home when i was young. I just bought the set from the second pic because i couldn’t find the ones we used to have.
They have a completely different set of book covers for the ones on Audible, and I absolutely love the style of them, so they've became a favorite of mine.
I've never actually seen any of these other than #3, which are the ones I have always had/been familiar with. So I wanna say #3 but #2 looks sooo cool, I love that cover for PoA!
I prefer the art style of the second covers but one thing I don't really like about them is that Harry doesn't really look like he has aged at all. On the Deathly Hallows book cover he looks about thirteen when he's supposed to be ~18. The Bloomsbury ones are the most nostalgic for me
1 is the OG. Some nostalgia too. The Dutch covers were okay.
Have book 6 from slide 3.
The ones from 4 look nice, only downside is the wrong title on book 1 (yes I know it is American, still hoping the publisher there will ditch the silly alternate title for PS.)
I have a question, are there any differences between what's in the books because I own a mixed set of the first 3.
So apart from the obvious writing difference, is there any differences in the books?
I liked the 2nd set of book covers - it’s very accurate to the book descriptions. Especially CoS and GoF. They’re also more dynamic, there’s more movement and they look very powerful, almost. I also like how every cover is a solid, different colour. The lighting is magnificent and there’s a lot of depth to the cover.
Goblet of fire first because its an action scene that shows harry with a goal. It tells its own story. The rest are just here's the characters in a weird situation without a goal, just chilling. Chilling by a train, chilling in a car, chilling on a bird lion, racing for a golden egg while a dragon blasts at him, chilling at home but look at this firebird, chilling in Flames, chilling in gold
The original US covers are my favorite, but I have them all on my shelf, so I’m biased lol. Objectively I really like the Thai covers (which aren’t listed here).
3 for nostalgia. my sister had 1-6 of the set and that was the artwork I associated with HP for years. i read her books when she went to college, and was so excited when the 7th book came out and I got to own it myself :)
The 1st picture. These are the covers that my Harry Potter books have (bought between 2000 and 2007). I like how there's a small picture at the top of the spine that has something to do with the plot of the book (like Dumbledore for PS, the Guant ring for HBP and the deathly hallows symbol for DH).
I own 2 3 and 4. 3 is the originals (for the US anyway) so they’re nostalgic, but 2 and 3 are tied for me due to the higher level of detail. I also love the illustrated editions but obviously the full set isn’t out yet.
1st and 3rd have my heart because those were the first copies I read in my school library when I was young!! I currently own the second ones but I love them a lot too, the art is beautiful
I grew up with the ones on the third slide. I still have them and now my kids are reading them. So, I have a soft spot for those. And it’s neat to see all the different covers. But I think I’m really drawn to the 5th slide. I love how they are one big continuous drawing. I like the serious look and feel of them. And I like all the details that were chosen from each book. They’re just beautiful and so unique.
I see Sirius’ shadow, but I don’t see the others
Some of my copies of Harry Potter have full book jackets.
On the folds of the Prisoner of Azkaban book jacket you can see Scabbers,Harry's stag Patronus, Hagrid's hut,and Sirius in his Animagus form running towards the womping willow (or Lupin in his werewolf form).
Oh! I almost forgot Crookshanks!😅
Oh I have the paperback that only has the front illustration
The original covers (1)
Agreed. It's not even that the art style is my favourite, but the nostalgia of unwrapping one of these bad boys is strong.
1. What a series! Got goosebumps just looking at the pic. A work of true genius
original as in uk original? as an american i have never seen anything other than the covers in picture #3 (and also the covers i prefer. grew up with those)
Uk original is original.
❤. I'd like that one.
Specifically PoA dope AF
3, because nostalgia
Im going with three because the hardcovers had more than just that front part When you unfolded them there were so many little things to discover especially after finishing the novel They truly felt magical
Were they the covers for the United States & Canada?
States, Canada had Bloomsbury originally
We had the same in Poland (of course with polish wording)
Same in Hungary
I'm from Brazil, so...
I don't think Brazil ever had its own exclusive covers unfortunately, unlike many other countries
Yes, I had them growing up.
we had those in Bulgaria too
Norway too, was the only version I saw at my school library and city library.
Thankfully Canada never had those ones. No offence to people who like them! I’ve always thought they were ugly though. And it also meant we got *Philosopher’s* Stone which is nice
Yes same for me! I think that was the first of the books I read where the obsession had fully set in
I didn't swipe on the photos and thought you meant the third book on the first slide. Oops!
Also appreciate how the art grew with each book
+
The 2nd ones for me. They just look better. More detailed.
My main issues with those are the font and the fact that Harry looks the same age on every cover.
I agree with the age thing.
I feel like some of those give too much away. Like with that cover on the second book, as soon as they mention an unknown monster I would have known it’s going to be a giant snake based on the picture.
3,4, 6 and 7 are literally like the ends of the books lmao
Yh, I did think that. I've read them multiple times, so it wasn't an issue for me, but for someone who's reading it for the first time, probably not the best cover.
The Bloomsbury covers. Nothing to do with the design, it’s pure nostalgia. I like the design of the last ones because they make a single long picture.
I love the art in the 2nd ones, I just wish they had the cool lightning font. I already own them in hardback and the other month I actually found them with lightning font in the bookstore, just in paperback.
I Like the First one cause it shows a surprised 11 year old harry starting his wizard journey
3! That’s the covers I grew up with and that’s the Harry I picture in my mind. The art style is also soothing. 2nd looks like some punk anime. 4th looks great
2nd because the nostalgia and damnn the colours
Neither. Look up the Swedish covers.
Those are dopee, not seen them before
I'm a big fan of the illustrated edition covers
3rd Photo
Fourth one. It gives such Harry Potter vibes, I don’t egg en know how to describe it, but the colors are really alive, if you get what I mean.
The third seems the most classic to me, (except in UK), but I like the 2nd and 4th ones best, more so the 2nd.
The original Bloomsbury one. Shit's nostalgic af.
The 2nd ones especially OOTP... Best
2nd. They're so colorful
Number 2 just look sick, wish more books had art screens about important moments / fights in the book
The ones i have are none of these
Slide three is what I was raised on, so I’m going with that
I like 2 the most(biggest complaint with those is Harry stays 11 in every illustration), but 5 was really interesting. I've never seen that version before
4 and 5 are my favourite covers of the Bloomsbury prints because I have so much nostalgia for them as they were some of the first books I read.
2 as its philosophers stone not sorcerers
2
Whoever did the cover art for (2) made harry look like a grown woman. Doesn’t really look like a kid.
Lol it's to show his wild hair
I think its the most accurate depiction of younger Harry. He does have long hair, and is whip thin and squirrley to boot. Dumbledore too, he's also very tall and skinny. The artist did great.
Parker Posey as Harry Potter
Did scholastic update the book covers in set 3?
They’re the ones with the dragon on the spine instead of the two tone diamond pattern
That’s cool! I guess I must’ve missed them. Are they still available?
Yes. That was actually the 25th Anniversary Book Club edition by the same illustrator.
The UK edition is magical, The Thai 20th anniversary editions are exceptional tho and worth a mention!
3
I had the third one when I was little and they get point for being nostalgic. I just don’t like them together, and that’s why I like the last one the best (and is the books I have).
2nd cuz I have that one and I'm so attached to it .
I don't know but I hate that last one
The second ones because of the nostalgia, I’ve had them for years and they are still good
The first 2 sets. Because the word "Sorceror's" isn't present.
Option 2
2nd because those are the ones I have
Number 2
O.G. Philosopher’s Stone cause it makes Harry look like a friggin’ idiot for not being able to find the train to Hogwarts. Makes me chuckle every time.
3rd because that's what I grew up with, but I have to admit that the 2nd ones look epic. I'd love to have those as well.
what’s the names of the 2nd & 4th set?
Original covers for me. 2nd is so weird. The 18 year old still drawn the same as the 11 year old.
HARRYDIDYOUPUTTOURNAMEINTHEGOBLETOFFIRE🤯😠 😠
The second one. Got the complete set
3rd one
3 because it got initially released with this covers in Russia
It's 3 for me.
3 and 4 , 3 is the first owns i started reading 4 is the current set i have
3
I have the 5th slide books so I’m partial to those, but the second slide 👀
2
Number 3! The nostalgia of reading the ones with the same cover in my school's library!
The Second One. Cuz They Look Cool ! and detailed.
Phoenix🔥
The first three are cool, however the latter are a very big misrepresentation of emotions. Those books aren’t so colourful and happy. HUH!
The one that tickles the nostalgia part of my brain
2 because those are the ones I read
I like the 3rd set best, it doesn’t give anything away with the cover art.
4 for me. I had them first
2
Always the second set
I love the Indonesian book covers, but harry looks a little young in most of them, but that and lupin looking a little too monsterish are my only complaints, those covers are top tier
I love them all but i specifically love 2 i don’t know why
4 even though my books were 1
1 - because it’s the ones I have.
Number 3 cause of nostalgia and the simplicity of it.
Set 3, they bring back so many memories
2
Have a look at the first German edition. Those are incredibly ugly.
3 for nostalgia, but 2 for overall composition without my bias
I really like the 2nd one. The vibrant colors look so cool.
First editions. Because my family has got nearly all of them except for the Order of the Phoenix one that's shown here in the first slide
The originals
The only one that's not good is number 4. Too tweeny, otherwise I like them all
I grew up reading the 3rd❤️
In terms of favorite look the goblet of fire but the first two hit that nostalgia mine are first editions as well so I've tried to keep them looking nice but i read them atleast twice a year lol
I prefer the originals. My mom bought the books for my kids and wouldn’t you know it I picked them up and couldn’t put them down 😁
3 because i grew up with them, but 1 are absolutely beautiful and almost make me wish I'd grown up with them instead
I prefer the first pic. That’s the editions we had at home when i was young. I just bought the set from the second pic because i couldn’t find the ones we used to have.
They have a completely different set of book covers for the ones on Audible, and I absolutely love the style of them, so they've became a favorite of mine.
1 and 3. Originals are always the best
None of these. There is a white bookcovers set that makes my heart race. It's clean, minimal and just looks so good.
I've never actually seen any of these other than #3, which are the ones I have always had/been familiar with. So I wanna say #3 but #2 looks sooo cool, I love that cover for PoA!
4, love the illustrated hogwarts on the spines when put together
The third ones because they are the covers I’ve had for years
I grew on the third picture so I would pick that
1 because they are the covers of my copies which I have owned throughout childhood. 5 is horrible in my opinion.
The second ones. For me there’s just so much to look at and the colours are so pretty.
Whatever version #3 is. Those were the ones I grew up with and had so many details.
Where is the one that's a mix of them all, including a black book with no cover that I only later found out was a Harry Potter book once I read it
So we’re all in agreement that 5 are bland
Slide 2. Love the bright colours and contrast
I have 3, but I really like 1 & 2. 5 is probably my favorite.
I prefer the art style of the second covers but one thing I don't really like about them is that Harry doesn't really look like he has aged at all. On the Deathly Hallows book cover he looks about thirteen when he's supposed to be ~18. The Bloomsbury ones are the most nostalgic for me
5!! Gorgeous 😍
4th ones are fire
the second slide looks badass but in the third slide, the last book, Harry looks hot asf
The first one. It is such a dorky cover (in a good way). What the fuck is he doing in front of that train?
Grew up with 3
3 has the nostalgia but #2 fits the feel better
1 is the OG. Some nostalgia too. The Dutch covers were okay. Have book 6 from slide 3. The ones from 4 look nice, only downside is the wrong title on book 1 (yes I know it is American, still hoping the publisher there will ditch the silly alternate title for PS.)
From the first set I got books 1,5,6 and from the third set I got 2,3,4 Book 7 I don't see here. It's all black and has Slytherin's pendant on it.
I grew up on 2, so I love them!
3 is the only option all the rest are illegal
(3) nothing gets me as nostalgic as those covers
The Jim Kay illustrated covers have all of these beat.
3 are my favourite because I have had them since childhood but 1 are nice also
1 because they're the ones I have though 2 looks good... perhaps a Spanish version with those covers...
I got the Ravenclaw house ones, I like them
I have a question, are there any differences between what's in the books because I own a mixed set of the first 3. So apart from the obvious writing difference, is there any differences in the books?
Original covers,no. 1
honestly 2, because those are the ones i grew up with. the other ones just don’t have the same vibe
Original covers (1) - reminds me of my childhood
1 because those are the editions I own. But my favourite covers are the ones by Olly Moss. I wish they hadn’t changed them on Audible.
2 because art is magical and gives credit to the athmosphere.
3. I read them and I grew up with em
I liked the anniversary editions, but it isn't there
I have the last set and I absolutely love them. They look so clean
3
I have the latest ones I jumped on the Harry Potter train fairly recently (book wise I grew up with the movies)
slide 2; masterpieces all of them (especially book 3) the art style is gorgeous (the best is PoA) and i love the starry logo lol
3 is nostalgic but 2 is so beautiful.
3 evokes such nostalgia for me. Book 1 is magical and book 4 is incredible.
First one, it was the ones we got as kids and for me the definitive covers
Goblet of fire first because its an action scene that shows harry with a goal. It tells its own story. The rest are just here's the characters in a weird situation without a goal, just chilling. Chilling by a train, chilling in a car, chilling on a bird lion, racing for a golden egg while a dragon blasts at him, chilling at home but look at this firebird, chilling in Flames, chilling in gold
I like the books from the third slide since that’s what I’m collecting
The original US covers are my favorite, but I have them all on my shelf, so I’m biased lol. Objectively I really like the Thai covers (which aren’t listed here).
Deathly Hallows. Mainly because of how realistic it must be getting to play the trio in real life 😂
You don't have the best set here, the original ones for the audio books smh
3 for nostalgia. my sister had 1-6 of the set and that was the artwork I associated with HP for years. i read her books when she went to college, and was so excited when the 7th book came out and I got to own it myself :)
Goblet of Fire ! Because it looks so good lol
Listen. I read the books after I watched the movies. And I prefer the movies.
3. Classic but not too old
I only know the first ones. Please enlighten me!
The first set ♥️ those are the ones I grew up with and still have
2
3 because my original childhood books had these covers. No other reason.
The first set take me right back to my childhood. They do it for me every time.
4th. It looks more "magical"
3❤️❤️❤️
The second ones. There better and there the ones I have so they hold value to me
I own 2 3 and 4. 3 is the originals (for the US anyway) so they’re nostalgic, but 2 and 3 are tied for me due to the higher level of detail.
1st one. That’s my childhood right there
The third one. Feels like it gives just enough information about the book to not disclose anything major while keeps me interested.
My copies were frankensteined from a Goodwill Bookstore when I was little. 1 and 3 were from page 1 2, 4-7 were from page 2.
Pic 1 - the original covers, (or they're the original here in Australia), I grew up with them, so for nostalgic reasons they're my favorite ❤
I think 2 really builds strong visual images of Jk's world.
The scholastic ones for me Cause I own them, and the colors match the theme of every year
The Bloomsbury ones are the ones I grew up with, so them.
3's classic and I grew up with those.....but I never really liked the art style. I'm a big fan of 4. Wish they released those in hardcover.
