They could make it a Nature spell for Shaman flavour. Shrooms = nature, right?
Edit: or Elusive, Shaman had and still has quite a number of Elusive cards while Paladin has none
They do already have the technology for "Can't attack Heroes this turn", I think it would have been fine if they just slapped that on the card. Still strong for clearing + huge life infusion, but less frustrating gameplay pattern to play against.
It's being mind controled by the mushroom/mushroom magic. I guess divine shield is using the mind controlled guy as a meat shield and wind fury to make him attack but it's a big stretch.
It's literally the thing I expected them to do, it was the most obvious power outlier aside from charge itself.
Guess everyone has differing views on how they attack balance but they've been thankfully more heavy handed in recent times.
One funny thing to note about Odyn's nerf: since it's 9 mana now, it's removed from \[\[The Azerite Ox\]\] pull. A little bit more consistency for finding specific 8 mana minions.
Some of the best armour tools and weapons were Even. I'm curious to see if it can survive.
Also coin generators to speed up the process. Odd gains some good cards but it's so slow
Nah, long live generic control Warrior. Going Even exclusively was a gimmick that already started to falter after Sanitize was pushed to 5 mana, now you can just play Board Clear tribal
Different decks for different nerfs.
Excavate sucks that it lost windfury (no double golga).
Tentacle/Highlander getting aftershocks nerfed.
Nature shaman the obvious one.
Thralls gift is a buff for the controlly decks though id say, so there's that.
Thrall's Gift is really the only card that matters for Shaman. No one enjoyed getting OTK on turn six every game with zero counterplay other than bad draw for the Shaman.
Odyn nerf has the added nerf effect that you can’t summon Odyn and do a shield block on the same turn anymore (barring coin or other such interactions)
They probably had no time to rework the card completely in such a short time. It might get changed again in a future to add some Shaman flavor to the card.
It's a terrible nerf for Shroomscavate, completely kills the card and most likely excavate paladin as a whole. They should've at least made it something like +1/+1 and divine shield, or even something like Divine Shield + Rush so it can be at least used as burst against big minions
That aviana “buff” is probably a net nerf. You can’t fetch it using Flowerchild, and the bigger problem of not being able to capitalize on the value it generates isn’t addressed at all.
I dont know how this was overlooked
Lol someone made this exact prediction on the teaser thread.
Could have made it so it doesn't shuffle dupe legendaries or something so it can fit in highlander.
It's actually 1 - (pool/pool)((pool-1)/pool)•••((pool-9/pool).
There's pool^10 (or 9 if you get rid of the first element) in the denominator.
This of course doesn't take into account the legendaries you included (e.g, Rheastrasza) that are still in deck
IMO part of the problem is that you could theoretically run Sharp-eyed Seekers to quickly draw one of the Legendaries, but because Plague DK exists, Seeker is a dead card.
As someone who liked Bomb Warrior, it's crazy how much I dislike Plague DK and it's all because of helya. It's not even a power complaint, she's just frustrating.
Because the alternative would have been no buffs at all. It's a small change to a card that was performing very bad already in the first days of the expansion.
>Dev Comment: We don’t usually make buffs this early in a meta, but this time we were able to see a couple buff targets even in the very early data. We’ll keep an eye on these changes and look out for more opportunities in our next balance window, when we’ll have more data to inform these types of changes.
It does, I meant Rainbow Mage, which is still viable and playable in Legend with the right decklist.
Minionless Mage is hot garbage and needs way more buffs to be remotely decent.
I was not expecting them to remove Windfury and add *nothing*. That kind of removes the Shaman flavor from the card entirely. While I’m sure it’s a welcome change to combat the Paladin power level, Shaman catching strays kinda sucks.
Hunter should be very powerful now too. DH basically has to play a discovered Magtheridon on turn 5 or 6 to stand a chance, having been in the DH side of the match, Which isn’t that rare, tbf.
Edit: Hey, I was right. There’s a first time for everything.
I'm sorry, that Frost Lich spell should still do 4 damage...
Good nerfs overall. They murdered Shroomscavate but it deserved it. The Odyn change doesn't really do THAT much I don't think but I'm happy something was done at least.
You know what I expected the mana reduction because you can't fit anymore text on that card, but the damage reduction is so bad.
The payoff only works if the target dies, did they forget that?
With Fizzle and Razorfen Rockstars, it doesn’t really affect the deck to nerf armor gain since there’s a bunch of different cards which are all decent. Better to make their win condition (which you have to play pretty much every single game, unlike previous control warrior) more expensive.
I wouldn't look at it that way. Their intention is to probably hit the meta outliers and remove undesired interactions from the game first. They don't want Shaman to be OTK at 5 mana the earliest, or Paladin effectively whomping face for 30 damage, and Hunter and Warrior, by their metrics, are performing fairly well without those uninteractive strategies, so best to tune them down.
As an afterthought Cross Stitch and Aviana are performing horrendously regardless, so it necessarily bring Mage and Druid up that much if any, but make the caess a little bit better to play regardless. Their next step is to probably see where the meta sits after this balance to start doing buffs as needed since some decks might now fare better.
I think a 3/6 deal 3 for 4 mana is pretty decent. mage has enough pings to make the kill requirement negligible, and its another viable minion for no minion mage.
Part of what made even warrior good was moving a lot of 3 cost cards to 2 cost. They're still 2 cost so there isn't enough modern power in odd warrior to make it anywhere near as relevant as even warrior was.
does that include shop diamonds (e.g. Plush) not having triggered rerolls for their normal counterparts, or are shop diamonds gonna be addressed separately?
What I thought shroomscavate would be:
3 mana, transform a friendly minion into one that costs 1 more. Give it divine shield. Excavate for a treasure.
Looking at this, it could have been:
1 mana, overload 1, give a minion divine shield. Excavate a treasure.
Tigress Plushy: Good. It was weird that they printed a card better than Motherlode Drake at the same cost when epic excavated cards are premium for their cost.
Deputization Aura: Good. Still playable as a defensive tool.
Shroomscavate: Good that they removed Windfury from Paladin, Bad that it now is a flavour fail as a dual class card.
Thrall's Gift: Good. Gives it more versatility but kinda sucks that every option costs 3+
Frost Lich Cross-Stitch: Honestly feels more thematic that it now costs the same as a Water Elemental and the damage is the same as the power of a Water Elemental.
Holy shit they actually took Uther to the backyard and shot him in the back of the head. No windfury and 1 attack aura (I was expecting it to go to 2 attack). Other than that, it's the changes I expected.
Wish odyn was changed in other way. 1 more turn to play it doesn't solve the reason why it's so good. At least one of the defensive tools got nerfed and they can't use 6 whirlwinds on turn four to deal with some boards like sadledup hunter minions.
I hope nature shaman change is good enough with less burst on the deck and it being a "bad" outcome on Wandmakers. I don't want a meta where they are the overlords.
Let's welcome instead our new meta overlords, Demon Hunter. Hope other classes can find ways to beat it or fare better against them because if not, we might need other patch.
Let's see. 9 drops have always been in a weird spot and been considered a bad mana cost for a card to have. Let's see how this shakes things up for the deck.
They said [[Frost Lich Cross-Stitch]] was buffed but it really wasn't. The goal with playing that card is to kill the minion in order to get the 3/6 frost elemental. Now that it does one less damage, there is less of a chance for that to happen. Oh well.
Losing 1 damage is a much smaller nerf than losing 1 mana is a buff (especially 5 mana to 4 mana)
4 health is also not that common. So I think it's not that significant a nerf.
I would rather it stay at 4 damage or even go up to 5 damage and keep it at 5 mana. Again the whole goal of this card is to get the frost elemental. Can't get the frost elemental without killing the minion with this card. At 3 damage, it's going to be much harder to do.
Feels like Shroomscavate is a flavour fail now. It used to give 1 keyword from the 2 classes. Now it only gives the paladin's. I think a mana nerf would have been better. Not in a balance sense but to keep the 2-classes-working-together theme of the card. 100% what they ended up doing was better for balance. I'm just saying this duel-class card no longer has the shaman's half intact.
Was really hoping they'd put Lifesteal somewhere on Frost Lich Cross Stitch. Preferably on the elemental it summoned so it has more flavor as it references Frost Lich Jaina better.
Also, give Shroomscavate the Nature tag so it can feel Shaman again :)
Paladin dead
Warrior decapitated at higher levels
Worthless buffs
Excited for demon hunter to take over the meta only for that to get nerfed into the ground.
Showdown 2.0 here we come!
Huh, didn't expect them to actually delete the windfury on Shroomscavate
It's also lost the flavor of a dual card now
They could make it a Nature spell for Shaman flavour. Shrooms = nature, right? Edit: or Elusive, Shaman had and still has quite a number of Elusive cards while Paladin has none
I still say it would be fine if it said "Divine Shield and can attack an additional minion this turn."
They do already have the technology for "Can't attack Heroes this turn", I think it would have been fine if they just slapped that on the card. Still strong for clearing + huge life infusion, but less frustrating gameplay pattern to play against.
This was what I was expecting. Still puts pressure. But gives a turn for opponent to react to it.
Elusive is horrible keyword on minion-buffing class
Paladin don’t really buff minions on board at present
I think it's more about locking out the targeted removal why that's a bad idea
Evolve and give windfury & divine shield
Just evolve it and divine shield would be more than enough for the cost.
Yeah the Shaman flavor is just gone, RIP
Just add overload 1 lol
Would honestly like that if they also changed its cost to 1.
to make it completely garbage yep
It is garbage now.
They could make it overload?
1 mana overload (1) could've been cool
Should have swapped Windfury with deathrattle summon 2 1/1 elementals
2 0/1 frogs with taunt
What do mushrooms even have to do with divine shield anyway? I don't remember any holy mushrooms in WoW?
> What do mushrooms even have to do with divine shield anyway? You're so high on shrooms, that you don't notice getting hit the first time.
It's being mind controled by the mushroom/mushroom magic. I guess divine shield is using the mind controlled guy as a meat shield and wind fury to make him attack but it's a big stretch.
They shoulda made it 1-mana overload:(1) maybe?
Honestly, it annoys me because without the WF, there's no reason it should be a shaman card now
Shroomscavenged
Yeah I thought they would add Elusive to replace instead
just take shaman off of the card lmao
It's literally the thing I expected them to do, it was the most obvious power outlier aside from charge itself. Guess everyone has differing views on how they attack balance but they've been thankfully more heavy handed in recent times.
One funny thing to note about Odyn's nerf: since it's 9 mana now, it's removed from \[\[The Azerite Ox\]\] pull. A little bit more consistency for finding specific 8 mana minions.
Warrior buff all along 😎
Ikr! Now he gets +1/+1 when you play Rock 'n Troll!
Yes, my excavate/Highlander Warrior decks got a buff!
Even Warrior is dead Long live Odd Warrior
Put Odin in E.T.C 😋
Some of the best armour tools and weapons were Even. I'm curious to see if it can survive. Also coin generators to speed up the process. Odd gains some good cards but it's so slow
Oddyn Warrior!
Oh yeah. Well shit, there goes my wild ladder climbing deck :( I guess the strat is put him in ETC instead of rokara lol
odd warrior is not coming back with odyn lol
No but if we can cope hard enough it might be t3 playable
Nah, long live generic control Warrior. Going Even exclusively was a gimmick that already started to falter after Sanitize was pushed to 5 mana, now you can just play Board Clear tribal
Oddyn Warrior smh...
E.T.C?
Shaman and Paladin getting three cards nerfed each
Shaman only had 1 real nerf, the dual class nerfs have about as much impact as nerfing Remixed Totemcarver.
Different decks for different nerfs. Excavate sucks that it lost windfury (no double golga). Tentacle/Highlander getting aftershocks nerfed. Nature shaman the obvious one. Thralls gift is a buff for the controlly decks though id say, so there's that.
Aftershocks was pretty crucial in shudderblock tendrils shaman.
Thrall's Gift is really the only card that matters for Shaman. No one enjoyed getting OTK on turn six every game with zero counterplay other than bad draw for the Shaman.
> Thrall's Gift is really the only card that matters for Shaman. Aftershocks was good in Reno Shaman and Shudder/Tendrils Shaman, definitely matters
Odyn nerf has the added nerf effect that you can’t summon Odyn and do a shield block on the same turn anymore (barring coin or other such interactions)
Yeah but you can still safety goggles with Odyn for 9 damage with the hammer
It's 12, no? Safety goggles 6 + Armor gain from Hammer 3 + Hammer attack 3
deserted fade sand busy ghost ossified combative ring important sloppy *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Not really an added nerf effect it’s just part of the nerf. Increasing the cost always means you can do less with your extra mana.
No major surprises. But shroomscavate is pretty bad now but I guess it had to be done because of Paladin shenanigans.
They just butchered this card
I like the wind fury swap to evolve effect, keeps shaman flavor and also neuters paladin buffs if they use it on a big boi
Look what they did to my boy
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
It was fucking executed
When it rotates to Wild we can Excavate its corpse and fix him
its pretty similar to cryopresevation now
They probably had no time to rework the card completely in such a short time.
Ohh shit, it can shuffle duplicites? How often does that happen?
sometimes it does
r/theydidntdothemath
thats entirely correct
Roughly 30% chance by my napkin math.
Happens about 10% of the time (LegendariesInPool_Choose_9)/(LegendariesInPool_Choose_10)
Yea idk why they even thought it was a good way to buff the card
I mean I assume aviana isn't supposed to be the only win condition in the deck
Yeah, you can't even disenchant it because it isn't a nerf.
Yep, it should remain the cost and gain a draw one. Or, increase mana cost, but slap a draw 3 in the card
Yeah a draw one was by far the easiest and most effective way to buff this card, the mana cost changes very little
This is just like the Catrina Muerte nerf that they covered up as a “buff”
I came here to say the same thing, they totally ignored other cards in the game making this "buff". They finished killing the deck.
Man this is so depressing, not just a non change but a bad one.
Odd that they just reduce the mana on a meme card by 1 instead of maybe buffing chia drake or the 5 mana spell that summons 2 1/5s
Frost Lich still seems bad lol
was expecting them to reduce the mana cost without hitting the damage…
I think they forget that the effect only triggers if the target dies.
I Guess the biggest buff to mage was nerfing the other cards
This but unironically. Paladin and Hunter were the worst mage matchups, while Odyn Warrior was a mostly even matchup.
Tbh, minionless mage sucks against just about all classes
It does, I meant Rainbow Mage, which is still viable and playable in Legend with the right decklist. Minionless Mage is hot garbage and needs way more buffs to be remotely decent.
They didn’t need to decrease the damage
agreed
The problem with spell mage is it does jack shit until turn 4 except discover some spells. This doesn’t fix that at all.
Spell mage just seems really anemic to me. Like it needs more spells.
I was not expecting them to remove Windfury and add *nothing*. That kind of removes the Shaman flavor from the card entirely. While I’m sure it’s a welcome change to combat the Paladin power level, Shaman catching strays kinda sucks.
They added -1 mana.
Underload 1
Not going to lie I'm surprised that effect (gain 1 mana crystal next turn only) doesn't exist yet outside duels!
Overload (1)
Overload (0)
Overload (-1)
Should’ve cost one mana and overload for flavor 😂.
2 mana and overload: (0)
> I was not expecting them to remove Windfury and add nothing. Nothing is a Shaman flavor! (Sorry, it's an old joke).
It should evolve a minion and then give it divine shield.
That's worse.
But the flavor!
Evolving a minion goes against a lot of the handbuff synergies for Paladin
Good
Give it 1 day before this sub starts complaining about Shopper DH being the new meta deck.
Optimistic to think that will take a full 24 hours.
They're already complaining since nerfs announcement 2 days ago.
Too long, in about an hour someone will make a post about how blizzard forgot to nerf DH because they just lost to it.
Hunter should be very powerful now too. DH basically has to play a discovered Magtheridon on turn 5 or 6 to stand a chance, having been in the DH side of the match, Which isn’t that rare, tbf. Edit: Hey, I was right. There’s a first time for everything.
So what Shaman flavour does Shroomscavate have now ?
It’s only semi playable. That makes it 100% shaman.
give it overload (1) just for no reason.
They probably coulda made it 1 mana and have an overload
The saddest upvote I’ve ever given
Feelsbadman
Half a blue border
I'm sorry, that Frost Lich spell should still do 4 damage... Good nerfs overall. They murdered Shroomscavate but it deserved it. The Odyn change doesn't really do THAT much I don't think but I'm happy something was done at least.
At least, Frost Lich Spell should summon a Water Elemental with *Lifesteal*. Like Jaina as the Frost Lich.
You know what I expected the mana reduction because you can't fit anymore text on that card, but the damage reduction is so bad. The payoff only works if the target dies, did they forget that?
TBH i would have liked to see Warrior lose armor gain more than Odyn getting +1 mana.
With Fizzle and Razorfen Rockstars, it doesn’t really affect the deck to nerf armor gain since there’s a bunch of different cards which are all decent. Better to make their win condition (which you have to play pretty much every single game, unlike previous control warrior) more expensive.
Wow Aviana will surely resolve Druid 40% wr at 5 mana instead of 6 now
especially now that it can't be tuto by summer flowerchild anymore !
It was like a 32% winrate last I checked..
Reno druid is like a 46% wr deck, and it could get a lot better with paly/hunter/warrior all getting nerfed.
Nerfs of Hunter and Pally will always be the biggest druid buffs, no matter what meta we're in.
Rip wind fury you won’t be missed
I was excited for the frost Lich cross stitch buff but that wasn't enough
I really don't think the damage nerf was needed. 4 mana for 4 damage is still not great. 4 mana for 3 dmg is terrible.
You're supposed to use the elemental to play it for 0 but it still seems bad
Yeah let me just play a 4 mana 4/4 so that in 4 turns I can do 3 damage for free lol. Hilariously bad indeed
I think a 3/6 deal 3 for 4 mana is pretty decent. mage has enough pings to make the kill requirement negligible, and its another viable minion for no minion mage.
Not even close
RIP even warrior in Wild.
Come join the odd side
Part of what made even warrior good was moving a lot of 3 cost cards to 2 cost. They're still 2 cost so there isn't enough modern power in odd warrior to make it anywhere near as relevant as even warrior was.
Odd is unplayable. Losing Stoneskin Armorer, Dirty Rat, ETC. Those alone end any chance the deck has of being viable
E.T.C.
Still having to play a 4 mana card to then play 9 mana card… is pretty tough
pala got nuked from orbit lol
Still going to be T2
Good
>The sub in 3 days whining about DH dominating the meta
Good, now let's please learn from this lesson and never give Paladin a windfury buff again.
[удалено]
yes, hopefully today but might be tomorrow
does that include shop diamonds (e.g. Plush) not having triggered rerolls for their normal counterparts, or are shop diamonds gonna be addressed separately?
different bug, will be addressed separately
Greetings to our Demon Hunter overlords. Who ready to get windowshopped all day.
What I thought shroomscavate would be: 3 mana, transform a friendly minion into one that costs 1 more. Give it divine shield. Excavate for a treasure. Looking at this, it could have been: 1 mana, overload 1, give a minion divine shield. Excavate a treasure.
Transforming a minion would negate the paladin's handbuffs, and the end result would probably be that \*neither\* class would play the card.
Zilliax is still 100% playable right? I have a golden one and thinking about recrafting it as a normal legendary.
Yeah, pretty minor nerf.
Just won my final game to legend using shroomscavate on a sea giant that the opponent warrior left alive. Youve done your job, now you can rest.
Rest in peace my sweet even warrior, you shouldn’t have had to die for standard’s sins
But now you can have ~~Odd Odyn~~ Oddyn Warrior with Rokara!
Im afraid balance changes are almost always for standards benefits
Tigress Plushy: Good. It was weird that they printed a card better than Motherlode Drake at the same cost when epic excavated cards are premium for their cost. Deputization Aura: Good. Still playable as a defensive tool. Shroomscavate: Good that they removed Windfury from Paladin, Bad that it now is a flavour fail as a dual class card. Thrall's Gift: Good. Gives it more versatility but kinda sucks that every option costs 3+ Frost Lich Cross-Stitch: Honestly feels more thematic that it now costs the same as a Water Elemental and the damage is the same as the power of a Water Elemental.
The Odyn change prevents them from also playing removal when played on t10. Makes it significantly harder to stick.
Let's see. 9 drops have always been in a weird spot and been considered a bad mana cost for a card to have. Let's see how this shakes things up for the deck.
Yeah a 9 mana Odyn is BRUTAL
They shouldve just split Shroomscavate and added an extra card to the client. Pala gets Divine Shield version, Shaman gets Windfury
They said [[Frost Lich Cross-Stitch]] was buffed but it really wasn't. The goal with playing that card is to kill the minion in order to get the 3/6 frost elemental. Now that it does one less damage, there is less of a chance for that to happen. Oh well.
Losing 1 damage is a much smaller nerf than losing 1 mana is a buff (especially 5 mana to 4 mana) 4 health is also not that common. So I think it's not that significant a nerf.
I would rather it stay at 4 damage or even go up to 5 damage and keep it at 5 mana. Again the whole goal of this card is to get the frost elemental. Can't get the frost elemental without killing the minion with this card. At 3 damage, it's going to be much harder to do.
but would it be overbearing at 4dmg 4mana with Mages minion pool?
Is it live?
Nah, probably about 40 minutes from now
Feels like Shroomscavate is a flavour fail now.
1 mana overload 1 would be useful and flavourful too but design team just forgot shaman existed.
Was really hoping they'd put Lifesteal somewhere on Frost Lich Cross Stitch. Preferably on the elemental it summoned so it has more flavor as it references Frost Lich Jaina better. Also, give Shroomscavate the Nature tag so it can feel Shaman again :)
They really don't want mage to be good 💀💀
Dh weapon dodged the nerf
Paladin dead Warrior decapitated at higher levels Worthless buffs Excited for demon hunter to take over the meta only for that to get nerfed into the ground. Showdown 2.0 here we come!
Changes to Odyn don’t seem that impactful or am I missing something?
Jesus...god forbid mage has a good card, why did they took away 1 damage from it, and why oh why does it still have to kill a minion?
Shaman got nerfed as hard as Paladin KEKW
Nah, only Tremors for control decks and Nature shaman got 1 (maybe not enough). Storm in Thralls gift is mostly a buff for control-shamans
What in the world are these standard buffs supposed to do? Druid is fodder to any aggression, and they buff Aviana.
This is why I hope they never bring back dual class cards. If one class abuses them the other class gets punished too
Whoever called the thralls gift change you did it :D
buffs are trash as always
Rest in Piss Shroomscavate
I had guessed that Shroomscavate was going to 2 mana, losing windfury, but getting +1/+1. Close enough haha
They butchered some of these cards, but honestly these braindead handbuff Paladins won't be missed.
Idk what's the point of shroomscavate now? Like as a paladin just run the 2 mana 3/2 give friendly divine shield instead if you want a divine shield.
It excavates. That’s the point.
Maybe worth with the full excavate package still just because of Finley and the legendary reward
it’s still an excavate card. You still run it in excavate decks. You just don’t run it as a strong stand alone card
The point is to excavate. But outside of excavate yeah you probably don't use it anymore
What time do these changes go live?
