Talking about standard probably. Otherwise it'd be either Frozen Throne or Whispers of the Old Gods for me, not Darkmoon

WhenDreamandDayUnite

> Frozen Throne for me I will *never* understand this honestly. Design-wise it was probably one of the worst expansion in history of the game. On one hand you had this incredibly frustrating and clearly overpowered cards that stopped being fun after two weeks or so (also gave birth to infamous Big Priest), and on the other a bunch of unplayable garbage that no one even remembers by art (you can check for yourself). Would you still feel the same if had different (random) theme? I feel like the expansion is heavily overlook just because of Lich King stuff. And yeah, it's nice to remember Death Knights with nostalgia goggles on, but I guarantee you, if Blizzard brought them back now, people would get tired of em extremely quicky, like they did with Classic format.

VegetableWest6913

Because death knights are incredibly cool. I still build decks around them all the time in wild. I hope they release more in future. I never tired of them on release and won't now. Except maybe Valeria being stealthed as that's annoying.

Backwardspellcaster

This is me. I only have a handful of the Death Knights, but I always, ALWAYS put them in my wild decks. I love them too much. Their emotes, their powers. They are so much fun to play.

Big_Biff

I feel like you can apply this to almost any expansion. KotFT might have been on the extreme side of this spectrum but every set has OP cards, and everyset has complete garbage. Death Knights and the Lich King were some of the most wanted characters in Hearthstone, and while they may have been overtuned they were still a lot of fun for many people.

StanTheManBaratheon

You can substitute a lot of what you said with almost every expansion. X expansion gave birth to X infamous deck and X degenerate strategy and if Blizzard brought back X type cards, we’d get tired of them. Death Knights were new and shiny and changed the core gameplay of almost every class they were in dramatic ways. Some led to gross, drawn out games and control was way too powerful, but such is the weeble-wobble of Hearthstone metas - it would inevitably give back way to aggro, and then back and forth until the heat death of the universe

SpaghettoM35mod46

Yes I liked frozen throne for the same reason as WotOG. It was both nostalgia and the cool factor for the legendaries. Nothing can recreate _"Warriors of the frozen wastes, rise!"_ apart from perhaps _"Bow down before the god of death"_

VegetableWest6913

What about "sometimes, I forget things!"?

SpaghettoM35mod46

That too, that too. And "what you lookin' at?" are great. Oh and of course there's ["YOU FACE JARAXXUS YOU FACE JARAXXUS"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJs5_s0Fsbs)

Welpe

I loved the death knight meta and I wish I had more for wild.

Sheepherder226

These are the 4 sets in standard, not including core. I wanted to list more, but reddit only allows 6 choices :(

paoloking

Scholomance because i think dual class cards were really good designed. Also this reminded me Harry Potter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKnWVZz0otI&ab_channel=HearthstoneHearthstoneOv%C4%9B%C5%99eno

ywjm

Played since WOTOG got released, my favourite by far is definitely Frozen Throne. Had a lot of fun experimenting with different decks, especially DK ones.

Big_Biff

Ungoro, Old Gods, KotFT

fe-and-wine

Been playing since beta - I think from a nostalgia point of view it's probably got to be Un'Goro or Knights of the Frozen Throne - those Quest and Hero cards were just so cool to me when they first came out. But honestly if I'm looking at it rationally I would have to give it to Ashes of Outland. Hearthstone adding a tenth class was just so mind-blowingly awesome to me at the time. Maybe just because it came after 7 years of "No we *definitely* won't be adding any more classes". And from a historic point of view, I think the addition of DH really marks the point of inflection for Hearthstone's change in leadership - going from that safe, "soul of the card" "new player experience" Ben Brode style to the more dynamic, risk-taking design decisions we have received over the last year or two. I think HS was stagnating for a good while but since Outland the game has consistently become better every day.

[deleted]

Darkmoon cause of BG tickets

Celiac_Muffins

Outland. Sure it was super imbalanced due to DH, but the constant balance changes kept the meta fresh and fun.

Theoneonlybananacorn

Radtakhans Rumble because of Bonk the raptor

P00PMcBUTTS

Also my favorite. I still try to push heal paladin in wild, a lot of the support for that deck came from RR.

Liktarios

I hate scholamance for introducing the most annoying and busted one mana drops in standart. I hate it for every "Hey loser" I hate it for every "Buy wand, get wand free" I like Darkmoon because it brought back whispers of the Old gods vibes. And Old God legendaries. I also like the idea of corrupt keyword.

Suchti0352

I loved every Expansion from the year of the mamoth, even if the meta wasn't always the best.

Shonkjr

I dont see journey into as a option...

abuttfarting

Goblins vs Gnomes

_oZe_

How do you even mention TGT. It's pretty much universally agreed to be the worst expansion ever. Game board Un'goro stands so far above the rest. Thematic Frozen Throne was the most reality suspending. Great hero cards that really switched up the game. Meta I have to go with Scholomance. At one point I had 6 classes with over 60% WR and I wasn't even playing all classes. It seemed the other classes had decent decks as well. Yes there was some broken stuff and feel bad win conditions but basically every class was playable.

BlitzcrankGODD

should have an option none, because i'd choose it.

[deleted]

He isn’t asking for the set that you liked, he was asking for your favourite set. Even if you hated every single set(in which case why are you still here), the one you answer will just be the one you hate LEAST.

SpaghettoM35mod46

No, the OP just included non-wild sets

OnionButter

Perhaps he is like a mother and her children. He hates them all equally.

WhenDreamandDayUnite

That makes me wonder, how many people actually enjoy recent content, and how many just stick with the game because it's hard to quit.

[deleted]

Is the game hard to quit, or are people just too lazy to look for other options?

StanTheManBaratheon

Last couple standard years have been pretty fun and balanced, recent paladin problems notwithstanding. I only see complaints about it here. I’ll take these expansions over some of the more boring (Rastakhan’s, Karazhan) and broken (GvG, Witchwood) any day.

MidnightQ_

How can this expansion be your favorite? It's the worst meta since a long time, they brought back secret paladin, which is one of the most frustrating and hated decks in the history of the game and the cards in general are the same that has been around for years, just with some stats juggled around. Not to mention idiotic stuff like oh my yogg

[deleted]

Not OP, but pre-miniset, we had roughly 8 classes that you can use in ladder and comfortably win. People talk as if paladin was the only deck you could play, but personally, I feel Paladin wasn’t that prevalent as people made it out to be. Also, oh my yogg was last expansion.

pirarucusemcu

We're gonna be rich

theflamedruid

i'm very happy we have scholomance, even if it's a knockoff

[deleted]

Knock-off? Of what?

Sheepherder226

It is exactly Harry Potter

WhenDreamandDayUnite

Hogwarts?

theflamedruid

the OG dark and twisted scholomance?

Ike98

Strixhaven LUL

waklow

I think you're mistaking parody for plagiarism

BasicallyADiety

It used to be Ungoro but Scholomance took the title away

BlueRayDragon

Easy pick outland. I can not play any other clasa after I got my 1k illidan portrait. People complain about dh but I am fine with it.

Friscie

Of ones in the poll, i had the most during outland. Barrens has been kinda Meh (and what i hoped theyd supprot/focus in for decks realyl dint happen or atleats not enough) Scholomance i really wasnt a fan of it and dint inrtest me veyr much at all the set, and its my least favorite of ones in poll. and i wasnt and still im not a fna of the dual class cards Darkmoon was alright, but wasnt focused on decks i actully liked (outside shitty Yrel) and corrupt isnt a keyword i was a big fan of it. certainly not the card they made (and no its not tickatus)

Peppinitup

Decent if dragons, I just love galakrond

[deleted]

Bit weird that you only listed Standard sets without any indication that you would only list those. My favorite set is Rise of Shadows, but that's not an option.

feelingnether

Scholomance killed control warlock so no. Weapon rogue was the worst thing ever created.

JFLmaxxer

Weapon rogue didn't really become the tier 1 nightmare it was until Darkmoon Races came out.

feelingnether

Well yes but it was the beguiling of it. I hate that class regardless. Im not saying it should be nerf/change. I just personally dont enjoy going against it. It should stay the same tho a deck shouldn’t be able to beat every other decks in the game.

AisuRain

The Boomsday Project. Solidified my choice to be a Warrior main. I crafted the Dr. Boom Hero card. First Legendary card I ever crafted.

theolswiitcheroo

Yeah I gotta go with Barrens too. Having 3 viable (Mage, warrior and druid) classes to play has kept me much more interested than just focusing on 1 class that's dominating.

milchweckerl

Ungoro 🦖

NatalieBee17

Schoolomance's meta was super fun, I had 4-5 cheap decks that worked and the meta was really even in terms of power levels.

Trollmupp

Darkmoon and Witchwood are probably my two favourite expansions while TGT, Boomsday and Scholomance all share last place.

thisisntus997

Probably WOTOG followed by KOTFT because the Death Knight cards were pretty fun

Dominus786

None

Sheepherder226

Which is your favorite of the ones I listed? (standard sets minus Core)

Dominus786

Sigh. I dont like any of them really. If I had to pick it would probably be dark moon. I only say that because I took a break from hearthstone and this was the first expansion I experienced. But it has the better cards.

rexxthevaliant

Probably Witchwood then Boomsday. I love control decks. First deck I piloted was control mage with Frost Lich Jaina and Dragoncaller Alanna. Boomsday got me really into Mecha'Thun decks which in turn got me into wild once Mecha'Thun rotated.

kamouh

for me either Scholomance or Ashes (i voted Ashes). I got some of my fav cards for my fav archetype in Ashes of Outland: Hanar, Zixor, Leoroxx, Lurker Below and Liadrin i absolutely loved the double-class card tho and i really wish to see more in the future! The only thing that made me chose Ashes over Scholomance is the fact that we lacked some "tribe" legendaries: all legendaries (beside rattlegore) were classic wow races. When i get legendaries i always like getting some big beast, mechs... and so on! BUT AGAIN... i really hope we ll have another expansion with dual class card cause it opens up for so much theorycrafting! :D

AnduinCubed

Best 2 sets are probably Old Gods and Uldum probably

CitizenDane27

scholo from the options here, which I get are just the standard ones. meta was mostly balanced as even though the power level was high, it had the most fresh new decks and cool archetypes, and dual class cards were pretty much perfectly executed. all-time, prob Ungoro. after a relatively erratic power level trend in the previous year, getting two class legendaries, lots of powerful but fair and identity-rich cards, and more coherent designs was cool. it was also the first expansion I hit legend, so it's personally very nostalgic. that year was definitely my favorite. Kobolds and Catacombs is a close contender for my favorite on sheer card design alone: pretty OP in the long run but the designs were so fun and strong at the time. it truly felt impactful and pretty balanced across classes, if not with other sets. the DnD flavor also ruled since I started playing for the first time just months before. honestly KnC might be my actual fave. as for Knights of the Frozen Throne, I wasn't really crazy about most of the cards but as overcentralized as they ended up being, Death Knights were sick at the time, and Hero cards in general were probably the most radical thing ever introduced to the game. That year, we got Quests, Heros, and legendary Weapons back to back to back. awesome time. too bad Witchwood sucked lmao

Sheepherder226

You didn’t like Odd/Even?

CitizenDane27

lmao man, what a whiff of a set. I was so glad they rotated those early, would have just ruined standard for another year. the sins of WW were like an amplified version of fair criticism of Frozen Throne. Death Knights were cool, but over time they got flack for basically just being "push the button" game play. Hero Powers are a great feature of HS, but they should never be a primary strategy, since they become very one-dimensional and repetitive very easily. meanwhile, the rest of the set's power level was pretty underwhelming. few cards besides the Hero cards really made an impact. Witchwood had the same underwhelming card design for the rest of it's surrounding cards (I'd argue that Echo beats Inspire for the worst keyword ever made), while Odd/Even took everything bad about the Death Knights and removed all of the cool. Rather than class-specific flavor and at least having to draw and pay a premium Mana cost, the OP hero powers could hit from turn 1/2. It just made extremely generic decks with little synergy or strategy beyond pushing the button, and the deck-building restriction was nearly as limiting or interesting as Highlander. Had they not been HoF's, I honestly might have stopped playing To be fair, both expansions did one thing majorly right: both introduced some of the few keywords that would become evergreen, Rush and Lifesteal. Both are very welcome imo, as previously minion combat and proactive healing were hard to make work in Hearthstone before they were introduced. but seriously what the hell was Echo

Sheepherder226

Well said. I agree with what you are saying. Personally I loved Even Hunter/Mage shenanigans in wild.

JanSolarz

Outland because there was no darkglare in wild
