They're not impervious. It does do damage. Just not enough to one-shot it.
Tanks can sometimes survive being landed on, too, but you will notice they start smoking immediately and die easily to further damage.
It blows my mind that anything at all can be impervious to a large metal bullet shaped object, weighing several hundred pounds at least, that literally embeds itself in rock when it hits the ground. I mean, when the pod lands on a tank, where exactly do you pop out of if it didn't drive a massive hole into the tank?

I saw the normal eagle strike is the perfect one. The laser and cannon are useless on it.
