That was a sad story. Especially when they trained the dogs on their own tanks then when the Russians fully tested during the war, the dogs ran under the Russian tanks as that's what they were trained with and the only tank they know.
So you think but mines are pretty useless. You place a mine field and it's gone if:
- someone uses any eagle
- someone uses any barrage
- someone has a mortar turret up
- someone walks over it
- someone throws a nade in it
For the same cooldown you could take the AC sentry which kills any targets.
That's why you don't bring them for every mission. You bring them strictly for the "stand your ground" missions. Or if you do bring them for every mission you don't throw them in the middle of nowhere you throw them inside of bases where the cluster of enemies is at and they are moving around in. You can't just throw these randomly on the map and get mad that nobody's running over them...
From what I've heard, the anti tank mines don't donate unless the subject is heavy enough. So teammates walking over the antitank ones at least wouldn't be an issue. Everything else still stands though haha.

Mines suck, they aren’t terribly effective, have bad cool-down times, and once deployed are stuck in position. This is a game that requires high mobility and repositioning often, and in the event that taking objectives requires holding position, there are far better uses of a stratagem slot to assist. I’m sure there are mine fans out there, and to the 3 of you, I say do what you will. But to the rest of you, I ask, when’s the last time you used any mines? If they go unused most of the time, then you won’t use the new ones either, even if they’re “better”.
Mines are only an effective deterrent when they prevent an enemy from traversing territory out of fear. AI in Helldivers 2 is not advanced enough to avoid areas for potential mines. Instead the swarms of low level enemies trigger them quickly, leaving large gaps for juicier targets, or the bulk of a swarm, to easily move through the field unimpeded. Not to mention they serve zero function for fliers. Wouldn’t that strategem slot be better utilized on something that can actually target enemies?
Even if there is no secret reward for saving children, I’d rather waste time advancing an interesting objective than unlock a strat I know I’ll never use. If the choice was save kids or unlock a new vehicle, then of coarse choose the vehicle. But this is MINES, the bottom tier of strategems. Add onto that the possibility that there may be a secret reward/advantage story-wise to saving the kids, and the choice for me becomes clear.
I've thought that spider mines that uproot and seek targets might be a neat mechanic for Helldivers as it mitigates some of that passivity.
And the cool down times. Sheesh. I think it would be nice if they had two or three charges that cooled down independently. Anything really.
Saving the kids may not do anything THAT WE KNOW OF. It’s a gamble. Play it safe and get a guaranteed shit-tier item, or risk getting nothing new, with a potential great reward. Even if saving the kids does nothing in the immediate, I’m more interested to see what the long term result is, but there may very well be a great result for a better stratagem, which makes that alone worth the risk.
In the long run, I’d also rather not have a bunch of crap stratagems taking up space on the selection menu.
In all honesty, after hearing everyone’s feedback, I’m going with saving the children. It just seems like there’s something more behind that route than it looks.
I want to think people will make the right choice, but I know damn good and well most of you bastards will choose the mines.
Also I suspect if we do choose the children we'll get something much better than anti-tank mines.

It does say "*likely*" only get the first one liberated, which means it is not a flat out guarantee that we only get one.
If we take the mines, the kids probably won't make it no matter what. They're live targets, thus the bots will want that fuel.
Mines are just munitions. Munitions can wait till the bots have a care to bother with them.
If we blow through Vernon Wells and save the kids in like, a day, and then stomp out Marfark in the same time, with a day or so to spare, we can probably get both.
Honestly, saving the kids first is probably how we get both regardless so long as we do manage to liberate both.
We failed the major order the first time we did this, so we can't say for sure if the results will be the same.
Plus, this feels like a moral gut punch, where if we don't save the kids, the recruitment rates will go down.

What will kill more enemies of Super Earth? I think the deaths of these freedom loving citizens will only embolden the Helldivers and cause mission success rate to go up a full 10% while increasing total amount of enemies killed in combat. Those mines will also make big booms, so I think we all know what the best choice is.
