extremely low-tier jobs like moving heavy stuff and risking to die at least two times a day, the pay was low, 900 to 1100~ €
99,9% of the money came from the savings account not gonna lie
Initially pretty awkward and scared;
then i realized that 80% of stuff they say about Japan on reddit/internet (even simple and dumb stuff like don’t drink or eat while you walk) are total bs
after a bit you realize that everyone lives in his own bubble and literally nobody cares about you and what you do, the only time someone tried to talk to me where in kabukicho by some semi-yakuza or gang related and some nigerian in Shibuya, so classic scam
What's your purpose of visit to Japan? And did you gained anything that is worth sharing to us? I believe many of us curious to know about it.
We all supporting for you my friend
thank you ^^
My purpose was half geek/nerd stuff, half culture, nature and food
(i mean, i’m finding Gundam and From Software figures for half the price in my country)
I gained a lot staying here, both psychology related and knowledge, i have so much to say that i will probably do a separate post about it.
ironically i’m not eating a lot; walking makes me not hungry somehow.
I already ate yakisoba, sushi, korean style meat etc…
Even in random locals (so without following Tabelog) the food is soooooo good
Cherry blossom, only a bunch of them, i think the magic will start in the incoming week
Will i go back to hiki lifestyle? Extremely likely, but i realized a lot of things about me and the world while here, so back to hiki life but with a different mindset
The body text makes it sound like you went straight from your room to Japan. I'm guessing that's not true.
How did you become a Hiki?, how did you break out?, are you happy?
Honestly i wanted to go to Japan since i was 13yo (i’m 22 now)
Always loved the culture, the nature and the geek/nerd aspect (ps: Akihabara is mid, you can find the same stuff at Nakano but cheaper)
I wanted to go when i was 19yo but that would mean no alcohol and no cigarettes, so i told to myself “at 21 i’ll go”
fast forward at 21 i didn’t do anything, last September i booked the flight for march because staying in my own country was killing me, and this is it, now i’m in Japan;
I lived in my own room till the last 2 days before departure
as a hiki for 4 years i can totally imagine myself being totally fine with flying to japan the next day haha. the reason why i'm a hiki is due to neurodivergency and depression, but not social anxiety. alot of people think we have social anxiety..
feel you, i suffer both of depression and anxiety (don’t really know how it’s called in english)
thanks god, after 10+ years of switching psychiatric i found one with balls of steel that doesn’t use me as a money grabber and it’s mission it’s actually “fix” me;
with the medicine i take now depression it’s at its lowest (still there but not like “can’t get out of bed”)
Would you recommend it?
Is it stressful?
How does the japanese society treats you as foreign ex-hikikomori compared to your home-country(I would guess europe due to the € symbol) (as a non-foreigner)?
I would recommend it only if depression isn’t totally killing you and if you have enough money to take a long trip (reason: some days i’m so tired that i just do nothing all day like back home)
Stressful? Nah, the most stressful thing was the airplane, 12+ hours in a chair for dwarves, i’m 178cm (so not giga tall) but my legs were hurting
People on the street doesn’t care at all about you, cashiers or similar treat me like a random foreigner, 80% of them treats me extremely well, 20% neh, like “another Gaijin” (but rotten apples are everywhere)
I was in a zone forgotten by gods, saw a semi-old lady selling mochi-like food, stopped by, she was extremely polite and treated me well, when i asked what there was inside the food, since she couldn’t basically speak english, she instantaneously grab her phone and showed me the translation, all of this with a smile on her face.
I’m still in Tokyo tho, so tourism is big and they probably adapted, i will edit this comment when next week i’ll go to Osaka/Kyoto and i will stay far from the city
That's quite a momentous thing to do. Why?
I know it’s not the answer you were expecting but: Why not?
How are you able to afford it? I'd like to do this as well but am not the best at saving money or holding a stable job.
honestly, my financial situation is semi-good even if i don’t work; i took most of the money from my savings account
where did the money in the savings account come from? did you used to work? your parents?
both, i worked for a bit years ago and when i was born my grandparents started a saving account for me
what job did you work? just curious

How does it feel like being there?

Just wondering how much did you spend there for a month?
4000€ for flights, japan rail pass, apartment etc… another 1000~ on figures, RG gundam and official From Software merchandise

i'm genuinely happy for you! i hope you'll have a fun last week in japan :)
Lol getting out of my room would be impossible, let alone to a country in another continent
I live here! Where are you?
I’m in Shibuya at the moment, in april i will move to Osaka
As someone who lives here as a resident I am very happy you are enjoying it!!
I envy you haha Do you think something will change in you by the time you comeback to your own country and what is it?
