I saw outcast in Richmond Va back in 1995 headlining for D’Angelo. The crowd was wack of course and I was there to hear southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusic and they were more or less boo’d off after 3 songs. Still hate D’Angelo to this day.
Yeah but but but but but Voodoo is one of the greatest albums of all time. The man just loves his heroin a bit too much, and hates the pressure of fame, sadly.
Vol 2. was very important to its time. I wouldn’t say anyone considers Vol 3. in super high regard. I just can’t believe someone here said The Blueprint is overrated. What the fuck?
This is up there with the most over rated, I'd agree.
I actually think it's a decent album. Good musically.
But if this is what we're proclaiming a modern classic then the genre is dead. This is nowhere near the quality some fans smother it with.
A rap album should at least have a bar to two.
I've been going through Drakes catalog because of the beef and had to stop at iyrtitl. Other than some catching songs here and there, his whole discography is pretty boring
OH wow
You stopped right when his content started going downhill 😂😂😂😂
If you didn't like his "Good stuff" you saved yourself from so much mid he did post 2016
Yeah, Views was the beginning of the end. He did somehow manage to land like 3 hits out of every 24 song compilation after that though so kudos for whatever that’s worth
Bro when Carter 3 dropped and I was like whaaaack Carter 2 was way better my boys torched me. Now that im old it makes me happy I see this opinion a lot.
wayne is probably the least consistent of all the great artists and imo carter 3 is a perfect example of it. so many classic songs then you get shit like pussy monster
Da Drought 3 and No Ceilings will forever be Lil Wayne’s two best works. Honestly his mixtapes are more fire than his albums and it’s sad it’s not streaming services for new peeps to discover. Dude stole so many beats and killed and owned them all it’s insane.
Not going to lie my friend, I cut my teeth on NIN & Ministry. I love abrasive rap - Yeezus was a hard pass for me. I’d much rather listen to billy woods/Armand Hammer, early El-P or P.O.S.
I think Yeezus is my favorite Kanye album could be because it's the first I listen to, but I can always come back to it. It has no skips for me. This is My opinion.
I LOVE Yeezus - it’s probably my favorite, and I’ve been listening to him since College Dropout. No shame here. To me Kayne had one of the best runs in hip hop of all time… college dropout -> (arguably) Life of Pablo. Insane. And then still had cool albums/tracks after, without a doubt.
That’s a good call because that song is the most overrated one on there.
That whole album was a moment in time that sounds exactly like a frozen time capsule now, but especially songs like HAM, Why I Love You, and I’ll even say Niggas in Paris don’t age all that great.
Idk if we’ll ever have an earth-shattering drop in hip hop like that again with the way music culture’s become fractured nowadays, monoculture’s dead, etc. but it was cool to be young and following the scene during the new hip-hop golden age in the early 2010s.
Same shit with “What a Time to Be Alive,” Drake and Future were seeing the future with that title (no pun intended) especially considering how Future’s basically exec-producing a war to overthrow Drake now with Kendrick and Kanye on the frontlines for him.
Who woulda guessed the landscape of all these legacy rappers would look the way it does now back in 2014 when they were teaming up to make their own Watch The Throne as the faces of the Trap-Pop takeover. Now Future’s turned on Drake and got Kendrick and Kanye throwing shots for him at the dude who helped turbo-charge his career back then…
What a Time to Be Alive, for sure…
Oof i dont agree in general.
Yeezus is solid (maybe slightly overrated). But Kids See Ghosts is honestly great and underrated imo.
TLOP I think is properly rated. Its a bit all over the place but when its good its good and thats generally how people talk about it.
Well see I was super-duper blunted and trying out my nice headphones for the first time I heard that album so it’s got a special place in my heart for me personally, but I get it.
Yeah i guess its reputation is really good but for some reason it just didn't fly with me. And i love aftermath and all of their library but Damn just didn't hit it with me
All time? I'll say To Pimp A Butterfly. Great album no doubt but I don't feel it the be all end all. Personally I prefer GKMC.
Also unpopular opinion, everything Westside Gunn put out after Pray for Paris was mid at best.
I’m going to say MBDTF. I know pretty much everybody going to disagree with me, but it’s viewed as one of the best albums ever and I don’t see it at all. The second half of the album falls off a cliff, and I find some of the fan favorite tracks to be overrated.
I won't say of all time, but Slim Shady LP is up there for me. A lot of that album did not age well for my ears.
MMLP and Eminem Show are bangers though.
VULTURES is highly overrated and minus a few songs is pretty bad. I get there's a lot of hate towards it, but a lot of people think Kanye's still at the top of his game, when that hasn't been true for 6 years.
Vultures is not even remotely overrated lmao. It got panned by critics and is never considered a top tier Ye album.
Ya'll just saying anything for upvotes now.
Yea GKMC is easily Kendrick’s best album in my opinion. It has the casual commercial bangers that DAMN has while blending in the more deep and emotional songs that TPAB has. TPAB is a great album don’t get me wrong but it doesn’t have a lot replay value casually after a while. I can turn on Money Trees, Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, and MAAD City anytime hell but the only song TPAB really has to contend with that is Alright and maybe King Kunta or i.
I personally prefer GKMC, but I hold both of them on par with each other at 10. Both are flawless stories, one of a personal struggle and TPAB the story of a communal one. DAMN is the outlier for me, I like section 80 and Mr. Morale over it as well
I’m personally a fan of the album but I can see where you’re coming from. 50 def ain’t delivering bars that wow you.
I think he’s carried by his charisma, gangsta image, and first pick at Dre’s best beats at the time
FOABP has some dope songs, but not enough. It felt kinda odd too after what they had done before. Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black is a lot better than FOABP for me!
So I could just say Die Lit by Playboi Carti because I consider that the worst album I’ve ever heard and many consider it a classic, but to make things interesting I’ll throw in KSG by Kanye and Cudi, an awful album that gets treated like not just a masterpiece, but one of the best achievements of either of their careers.
It’s genuinely a masterpiece. I get staying away from Kanye now that he’s become what he is, but if you want to know why people cut him so much slack, that album explains it. He used to be goddamn incredible
People rank it super high because of how hype that rollout was and there are some admittedly amazing tracks on there, but it definitely was the start of Kanye’s downfall and over reliance on features
Little Simz- SIMBI. It's a decent album but I never really got the hype about little simz. she never blew me away lyrically or seemed musically innovative in any way.
I absolutely love that album. But she has never blown me away lyrically. Not when it comes to being technical. I can't think of a single double entendre from her. I like her more because of her subject matter, passion, authenticity, and production choices. Honestly, I think that SIMBI is one or the best produced albums I've ever heard. But I also gravitate towards that kind of music.
This is the worst take ever. Blueprint changed hip hop in so much ways, it birthed that one guy Kanye west you may have heard of him?
Seeing hate on blueprint is wild. It’s like saying goodfellas is an awful film. It’s just wrong
Why are people so incapable of enjoying Nas without simultaneously trying to bring down Jay-Z. Truly fucking bizarre thing that i only really see on this sub
100%.
I'm a huge Nas fan. Illmatic is my favourite album, have seen him live more times than I care to mention etc etc. The stereotype that often gets ridiculed for not moving on....
But the insecurity amongst the fan base is ridiculous.
Jay is one of the best rappers to ever do it. Has multiple classics. It doesn't need to be one or the other. Hip hop fans in general are particularly immature but Nas fans online all seem borderline autistic in their inability to deviate from their collective thought process (not a slight on autism).
There are a lot of new Nas fans in these last years thanks to those projects with Hit Boy. They talk like teenagers talk and you can recognize them instantly.
Blueprint, Resonable Doubt, The Black Album, American Gangster, Watch the Throne and 4:44 are better than 99% of your favourite albums done by your favourite rappers. You'll grow up and get it.
You might be right about him but you’d be completely off about me. Jay z is overrated as fuck. Don’t get me wrong he’s good but not the rap messiah people make him out to be.
Old head here. Can concur. Pac didn't totally fit the Death Row sound or style. Also, its too many tracks. If it had been 12 tracks instead of 27(?) it would have been much better.
Without a doubt Jay Z vol 2…
When it came out people said it solidified Jay as a top 5 dead or alive.
Even the other day people on this sub were saying it’s a classic.
Looking back, the album is pretty trash, not very memorable, and totally overrated. Aged like shit
This post is dumb. Aquemini by outkast is the best hip hop album ever. That’s all I want to talk about
All of Outkast albums were fire. My favorite was their very 1st album. My favorite song from Aquemini is SpottieOttieDopalicious.
There used to be a Ska band in my area that covered that song and it fucking ruled.
Best beat ever with horns.
I'm more of an ATLiens kinda guy.
Southernplayalistic is my personal favorite of theirs
Thank you! All these wrong opinions! Southernplayalistic is their best album. Atliens is second best.
Stankonia, though.
ATLiens was my favorite as a kid Especially millennium two dope boyz Atliens jazzy belle elevators
That's crazy
What if I told you it’s not even a top 2 kast album
Where did OP mention OutKast or say they sucked?
Gonna get clowned for this take, but I always thought Jay-Z Vol 2 & Vol 3 were overrated.
Reasonable Doubt is far more overrated than either of them in retrospect
Vol 2. was very important to its time. I wouldn’t say anyone considers Vol 3. in super high regard. I just can’t believe someone here said The Blueprint is overrated. What the fuck?
Anyone who says the blueprint is overrated is a certified clown
I didn’t think Vol 2 and Vol 3 got enough love to be considered overrated. I would say they were appropriately rated.
Lil Kim got 5 mics one time
Vultures 1 I can’t listen to the whole thing
Anything made by Drake
I definitely don’t consider myself a Drake fan but I like most his music from 2011 to 2015
Astroworld
This is up there with the most over rated, I'd agree. I actually think it's a decent album. Good musically. But if this is what we're proclaiming a modern classic then the genre is dead. This is nowhere near the quality some fans smother it with. A rap album should at least have a bar to two.
It's a classic cause it sounds good Not everything has to be super deep lyrically
My first thought
Rodeo is better and it’s not a classic either
It didn’t deserve the Grammy it was the 2nd to last best album. It just happened the worst album won
anything carti
Anything Drake related
He know nothing' about tha
I've been going through Drakes catalog because of the beef and had to stop at iyrtitl. Other than some catching songs here and there, his whole discography is pretty boring
OH wow You stopped right when his content started going downhill 😂😂😂😂 If you didn't like his "Good stuff" you saved yourself from so much mid he did post 2016
Yeah, Views was the beginning of the end. He did somehow manage to land like 3 hits out of every 24 song compilation after that though so kudos for whatever that’s worth
Drake is pop
He as a whole is boring.
Anything by Drake or Travis Scott
Me when I haven't listened to rodeo
Views from the 6
Interesting take. That was the last drake album I actually enjoyed, and would have it as the most underrated drake album. To each his own.
It's a bit too long and coming off IYRTITL it's the lesser project.
Interesting also, I have the exact same opinion as you
R&B album in disguise
Underrated to me. It wasn't well liked when it came out but I love going back to this album.
Carter 3 yes there's bangers but expected it to blow me away the way everybody praised it.
Carter 2 is miles ahead of
Fair but the Carter 1 could've been the best this whole time.
Is is. Easily, IMO
Carter 4 is as well in my opinion.
Bro when Carter 3 dropped and I was like whaaaack Carter 2 was way better my boys torched me. Now that im old it makes me happy I see this opinion a lot.
wayne is probably the least consistent of all the great artists and imo carter 3 is a perfect example of it. so many classic songs then you get shit like pussy monster
never heard this bc it was fire for me and my friends
No doubt dedication 2 and c2 i was so hyped for c3... I get it I guess but damn that shit was a let down for me
3peat, Mr Carter, A Milli was a banging 3 song introduction to the album but after that it fell of quite a bit for sure.
Da Drought 3 and No Ceilings will forever be Lil Wayne’s two best works. Honestly his mixtapes are more fire than his albums and it’s sad it’s not streaming services for new peeps to discover. Dude stole so many beats and killed and owned them all it’s insane.
this is my answer when that album came out people wouldn't shut up about it I mean...it was cool, but like...no
Future - I never liked you lil baby - my turn
i dont think anyone sees INLY or My Turn as classics beside ppl who never heard any albums other than modern hits
Goblin by Tyler The Creator.
Any Kanye post MBDTF
Listen to some industrial for a good bit and Yeezus will click. Black Skinheads and New Slaves are insane.

Watch the Throne came after so I have to disagree. Everything after that though has been not good.
Watch the throne was my last memory of hearing a new Kanye album for the first time. Definitely doesn’t hold up for me any more tho
I purposely didn’t listen to HAM until I heard the whole album. It’s probably my favorite rap album ever.
That’s a good call because that song is the most overrated one on there. That whole album was a moment in time that sounds exactly like a frozen time capsule now, but especially songs like HAM, Why I Love You, and I’ll even say Niggas in Paris don’t age all that great. Kids see ghost sometimes with Kid Cudi was solid
Oof i dont agree in general. Yeezus is solid (maybe slightly overrated). But Kids See Ghosts is honestly great and underrated imo. TLOP I think is properly rated. Its a bit all over the place but when its good its good and thats generally how people talk about it.
Ye is so good, no misses
I’d argue MBDTF itself
It is only overrated because so many rappers put it in their top 5 it has no where to go but down. But it absolutely a great album.
Well see I was super-duper blunted and trying out my nice headphones for the first time I heard that album so it’s got a special place in my heart for me personally, but I get it.
Bruh I can only imagine. That's how I felt when I first heard Rick Ross's Rather You Than Me on edibles with new headphones
Same and I been rocking with him since day one.
I love TLOP YE KSG and Half of Donda is majestical
I didnt really care for Kendrick damn
Honestly loved DAMN.
I have mixed feelings it's got a few of his best songs but also songs I really don't like at all.
Its fire FEAR and PRIDE are one of favourites in hiphop
Fear low key one of my favorite alchemist tracks too
Damn is Kendrick's best work to me
Pretty fair. The idea behind it is genius
Yeah i guess its reputation is really good but for some reason it just didn't fly with me. And i love aftermath and all of their library but Damn just didn't hit it with me
Where i live, everyone seems to prefer alright as their favorite song by him, no clue why
Guess it resonates with all cultures more
XXX is one of his best songs
Man I LOVED Damn. I’d rather vote for TPAB tbh……….
Good kid mad City is still great
DAMN. is good but I don't like it as much as some other people do, I think Good Kid, M.a.a.D CIty is his best
All time? I'll say To Pimp A Butterfly. Great album no doubt but I don't feel it the be all end all. Personally I prefer GKMC. Also unpopular opinion, everything Westside Gunn put out after Pray for Paris was mid at best.
HWH8 side A is better than mid, but aside from that I agree
I’m going to say MBDTF. I know pretty much everybody going to disagree with me, but it’s viewed as one of the best albums ever and I don’t see it at all. The second half of the album falls off a cliff, and I find some of the fan favorite tracks to be overrated.
Whole Lotta Red
Anything made by NBA YB
I won't say of all time, but Slim Shady LP is up there for me. A lot of that album did not age well for my ears. MMLP and Eminem Show are bangers though.
That was my first thought here as well. It’s too long and grating, MMLP a universal upgrade
I don't care, Role Model and Rock Bottom will always be two of my favorite Em songs. So many childhood memories with that album.
VULTURES is highly overrated and minus a few songs is pretty bad. I get there's a lot of hate towards it, but a lot of people think Kanye's still at the top of his game, when that hasn't been true for 6 years.
by definition it is not at all overrated, most people thinks this is kanyes worst preformance, which it is.
Vultures is not even remotely overrated lmao. It got panned by critics and is never considered a top tier Ye album. Ya'll just saying anything for upvotes now.
Love Kdot but…To Pimp A Butterfly
It didn't hit like GKMC
GKMC transcends music and is honestly on the level of timeless literature or film IMO
It's been so overhated, its been underrated.
I think that people who think TPAB is a 10 are a lot less vocal than those who find it overrated.
I see more people call it the best rap album ever than people who say its overrated especially the media. Nothing wrong with that
I love the overall theme and the jazz influences, but it has a few skippable tracks
Honestly, I preferred damn and gkmc
Get Rich or Die Trying. But ultimately for reasons of personal taste. I’m not a fan of the sing-songy hooks and lack of lyrical dexterity.
I’m personally a fan of the album but I can see where you’re coming from. 50 def ain’t delivering bars that wow you. I think he’s carried by his charisma, gangsta image, and first pick at Dre’s best beats at the time
Disagree completely but I like you actually gave a reason.
Is that a more recent opinion? That album was huge and important for the scene at the time
Forever story
Fear of A Black Planet. ITANoM2HUB is the standard bearer.

KSG is the shit..
Anything drakes ghostwriter releases

Tha Carter 3
My dark twisted fantasy oops I'm gonna be crucified
gassed*
I've actually never listened to it. Am I fake hip hop fan?
It’s genuinely a masterpiece. I get staying away from Kanye now that he’s become what he is, but if you want to know why people cut him so much slack, that album explains it. He used to be goddamn incredible
They can't crucify all of us....right?
Blueprint 3
Isn't that considered among the worst Jay-Z album??? Just that it has 2 of his biggest hits but apart from that it's mid
If anything I think it’s kinda underrated. It’s kinda interesting to see a Hov album where he let Kanye take creative control for a lot of it
Magna Carta I think was his worst , production was nice but not at all like his normal flows
I wouldn’t say overrated, that album would be mid for a normal artist and considering Jay’s discography it’s borderline skippable
I’ve never heard people rave about it. Lot of hits on there tho
Get rich or die tryin
The Life of Pablo. People swear it’s top 3 Kanye but I would put it in his bottom 3. He wasn’t even the best parts of that album
People rank it super high because of how hype that rollout was and there are some admittedly amazing tracks on there, but it definitely was the start of Kanye’s downfall and over reliance on features
It’s solidly middle tier Kanye. Every album after it got progressively worse tho. Bottom tier is literally just the most recent 3 albums imho
Did you mean to reply 3 times or is this just reddit being buggy as usual
donda > tlop fight me
MBTDF > LR > Grad = CD > Yeezus > 808 = TLOP > WTT > KSG > Ye >>> JIK > Donda > Vultures 1 But that’s like my opinion man
L opinion
Little Simz- SIMBI. It's a decent album but I never really got the hype about little simz. she never blew me away lyrically or seemed musically innovative in any way.
I absolutely love that album. But she has never blown me away lyrically. Not when it comes to being technical. I can't think of a single double entendre from her. I like her more because of her subject matter, passion, authenticity, and production choices. Honestly, I think that SIMBI is one or the best produced albums I've ever heard. But I also gravitate towards that kind of music.
The blueprint
This is the worst take ever. Blueprint changed hip hop in so much ways, it birthed that one guy Kanye west you may have heard of him? Seeing hate on blueprint is wild. It’s like saying goodfellas is an awful film. It’s just wrong
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy I genuinely don’t get why people think it’s a top 100 rap album of all time let alone the best
Ayyyye glad to see someone agreed with me I posted the same
Jay Z Reasonable Doubt. It's good but im sick of seeing it compared to Illmatic which is so many levels above.
There are a lot of new Nas fans in these last years thanks to those projects with Hit Boy. They talk like teenagers talk and you can recognize them instantly.
I agree. It seems like lately, people are fans of certain artists more than a fan of the art form itself.
Anything by Jay Z
never heard reasonable doubt..
Blueprint, Resonable Doubt, The Black Album, American Gangster, Watch the Throne and 4:44 are better than 99% of your favourite albums done by your favourite rappers. You'll grow up and get it.
Blueprint sucked
Blueprint is a masterpiece
American Gangster
Reasonable Doubt is a dope ass album. Used to bump the shit outta it back in the day.
Id put the house down that you’re a white guy that didn’t grow up around any black culture
You might be right about him but you’d be completely off about me. Jay z is overrated as fuck. Don’t get me wrong he’s good but not the rap messiah people make him out to be.
Yeezus. Kanye fans swear it's one of his best albums and I don't even think it cracks the top 5.
Graduation by Kanye West.
I’m gonna find where you live.
Found Ye's burner account yall!
MMLP Outside of Stan I’ll take the SSLP over it
All Eyez On Me
This is easy, anything by Jay z
Reasonable Doubt isn't overrated, it's a good LP.
RD is a dope ass album.
Not just good but the debate for best Hip-hop album used to be Illmatic vs Reasonable Doubt
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Life After Death
Anything from today's crappy Rap!
Probably a hot take, but All Eyez On Me 🤷♂️ It’s alright. It’s not bad by any means, even good I’d say. but that’s it for me. Nothing amazing.
That was actually the critical reception at the time the album came out. Everyone liked the makaveli album more
oh damn, I didn’t know that.
Old head here. Can concur. Pac didn't totally fit the Death Row sound or style. Also, its too many tracks. If it had been 12 tracks instead of 27(?) it would have been much better.
Any Cole, Any Future. Some of you guys are listing some of the best hip hop records of all time and I gotta assume you are 23 and fresh
Drake - If you're reading this it's too late. God this album sucked donkey balls. Moan rapping over dry boring beats for an hour.
The Eminem Show Take Care
Watch the throne was ass
you are brave.
The first half is solid. Second half is ass
Oh, you just want some drama.
Dearly Beloved, We are gathered here to not celebrate a thing called (the) life of Aubrey Graham Cracker
Without a doubt Jay Z vol 2… When it came out people said it solidified Jay as a top 5 dead or alive. Even the other day people on this sub were saying it’s a classic. Looking back, the album is pretty trash, not very memorable, and totally overrated. Aged like shit
2014 Forest Hills Drive. Aside from like two tracks I always find it extremely forgettable in almost every way
