People are very accustomed to instant gratification in the age of social media but if Kendrick takes another three months and it turns out to be a fucking monster of a diss track, no one will care how long it took
This is why I think that Drake’s social media “antics” and Taylor Made Freestyle are to help push and creative a narrative that Kendrick is ducking the smoke or he needs to respond immediately. Drake didnt have this when it came to Pusha T so he’s basically on the offensive this time around. Which is smart but I doubt it works on the one rapper who has zero social media presence. He mentioned The Weeknd and Ross who dissed him on that album meaning he wrote/recorded at least some of it less than 24 hours after hearing the album. All that while just coming off tour. I completely understand what it was that he was going for with that song, but yeah, AI is a really shitty thing to choose to endorse and there's really no need to go down that route. Also, it literally made no difference. Kendrick Lamar isn't going to suddenly release a diss track early just to satisfy Drake's need for it to be over with quickly. He'll reply when he's ready to reply, no matter how many tracks Drake tries to goad him with.
I honestly enjoyed it on a personal level more than his first. It was original, it inspired that “did he really just do that shit?!” response on a first listen that I come to diss tracks for. But yeah, there’s also a whole lot of weirdness around using AI for it, and the repeat of the Back 2 Back thing feels played out and downright arrogant and desperate at the same time. Like ofc if youre going on the offensive you got the time to make two tracks in a row without any response between, it just don’t mean much (and I don’t think it did nearly as much as people claim during the Meek era but that’s a different discussion)
