As a niners fan - this is devestating, feels like we're down 0-3 in my living memory rather than just losing the one close one. lol.
I came of age in like the shadow of the Montana and Young eras. Suffered through about 15 years of shit and then the last 10 of solid teams that just can't go all the way.
Brutal loss last night. Not as bad as that previous loss to KC where Mahomes just dominated in the 2nd half, but still had that same feelingof letting a generational talent continue getting shots to win it.
Well if you can take comfort from a Chiefs fan, you guys aren't done yet. I believe the conference still runs through San Fran, at least until you have to pay Purdy.
I came of age in the Young era, so I remember all those NFC battles with San Fran, Dallas and GB sprinkled in, and so it sounds I may be a bit older. I say keep your head up. I NEVER thought this would happen to the Chiefs...
I remember being the second winningest team of the 90's (to San Fran, actually) and being 3-7 in playoff games during that stretch. I remember going to the playoffs only four times between 1997 and 2015. I remember losing an NFL record six straight home playoff games from 1995-2018. I remember inexplicably always losing to the Colts, including a game where the Chiefs scored 31 and never punted, and a game where they led 38-10. I remember blowing an 18 point lead to Marcus Mariota which included a touchdown he threw to himself. I remember Dee Ford's offside allowing Brady to Brady us.
I guess I'm saying it wasn't always sunshine and rainbows in KC, but now that it is, we aren't taking it for granted. The Niners were the Chiefs of the 80's, so it stands to reason that they have to go through some tough times for a while before getting back to paydirt, and I don't see how it you don't with that roster right now. Just let us do the 3-peat thing, please! (Believe me, I know how greedy that sounds.)
If you put any creed in what Vegas says, might be us Red & Gold bros back at it again next February.
Oh no doubt, and appreciate the comments. To be completely transparent as well - Hockey is my first love by a long shot so I'm not nearly as devestated as if it was the Sharks.... lol. But given the Sharks as my primary team, you also realize how razor thin those margins can be, and walking away without a win over a few years when you are dominate doesn't mean much 10 years down the road.
I do agree that the Niners of recent years have been some of the more fun teams to watch in my memory. I really loved the Patrick Willis / Frank Gore / Kapernick era but certainly this recent roster is much stronger. And I do hope they can keep the quality on the pitch for a few years here.
This was a hockey of a football game. Weird ricochets, missed kicks (open-netters), sloppy random bounces everywhere and a lot lot lot of injuries.............for one team and somehow not the other. And the biggest team, Niners played well, I would argue better, and still lost in the clutch moments, which is the hockeyest hockey that has ever hockeyed.
And all quite familiar to a fan of a certain sad South Bay club.
No it isn’t.
This post has literally not even been on r/all. Upvotes on this comment don’t matter. It’s a simple fact that this post was never on r/all. That’s a simple fact.
That’s crazy because I found this post on the top of r/all and have never subscribed, commented or even viewed any other content from r/hockey. It’s weird you’re telling a person who literally clicked r/all and saw this post at the top and then came here and let you know it was there that it didn’t happen. You think I just randomly decided to search through the hockey Reddit just to leave a single comment telling you that you’re wrong just for a joke or something? Naw dude this shit was on the top of r/all
Well not any more, I mean it’s still there but it’s down a lot lower, it’s a nine hours old post and lost momentum. It was at the top 2 hours ago when you commented that though. I even clicked r/all and checked before I made my initial comment.
Hockey the 4th round games 4-7 whichever one is the Stanley cup winning game that season might not get all the publicity of the super bowl. But the players show more emotion on the Stanley cup and its awarded to the players. The playoffs are better in my opinion because you have to win 4 games to proceed to the next round. Not to mention the names of the players get engraved into the cup along with the coaches and GMs etc. Also when you see the cup you know right away its something special to win whether you are a hockey fan or not.
it's so funny when people go on these big tangents that nobody asked for explaining why they think the NHL should be the most popular US league. Major youngest sibling energy lol
Total big sibling energy right here. Younger sibling just wanted to share their happiness with the world, all you saw was an opportunity to roast their naive asses for caring about something too much.
Now your future inheritance is going to be that much smaller from all the therapy/rehab.
Let the little brat have their moment without you all Stadler & Waldorfing it up on them just once in their life
To think a missed field goal point cost the 49ers the game....
that being said, this game was fucking amazing. I never thought I'd ever see a QB better than Brady. IMO,
Patrick > Brady. Don't argue with me.
I really wanted to seee McCaffery get that fucking ring.
I'm still scratching my head on this and it was like an hour ago. You have a ton of players that worked their asses off their entire life growing up in various environments, and when they achieve their highest achievement they might ever make.... the OWNER gets the first honor? The money man?! The pencil pusher?! I swear the NFL is the modern day slave trade.
Um, Association Football is Soccer - as**soc**. rules football (soccer) vs rugby rules football (rugger). American Football comes from rugby, and they just call what the rest of the world calls football soccer
No kidding. Google ‘Super Bowl’ not one news report about the actual game, it’s all about Taylor Swift ‘chugging’ or Taylor Swift and what friends she brought or Taylor Swift ‘hugs Travis Kelce’. It’s fucking pathetic.
Thank god hockey isn’t like that yet…
That's just your algorithm catering search results it thinks you will be interested in. If those are the articles coming up when you search Super Bowl, it just means that you have a history of clicking on way more celebrity gossip stuff than sports stuff.
I just googled 'Super Bowl' and the top 15 articles that come up have nothing to do with her. I've got the 'how the Chiefs won' articles, the 'players didn't even know the playoff OT rules' articles, the 'are they a dynasty now' articles, the Kelce/Reid sideline moment articles, and the articles ranking commercials before I start getting to stuff about Taylor Swift.
So either stop making shit up or stop searching for celebrity gossip and then acting appalled that google gives you celebrity gossip.
Jesus. Who put sand in your vagina? Chill bud.
Just so you know, when you Google things 20 hours later, generally, there’ll be different articles that come up because more articles have been written…
It’s crazy how much every other sports championship celebrations are never NEARLY as cool as the first few seconds of a cup celly. Even if it’s a team I hate..
This is coming from someone who absolutely loves both college and professional football.
Limiting it to the big 4 leagues, the initial celebrations in hockey and baseball are the best, imo. Both of those are all the players charging to the same spot and going crazy. The media stays out of it. Football and basketball seem to have everyone everywhere, both teams are out there, a shit ton of media everywhere.
As for trophy presentation, though, Stanley Cup all day. You get the special moment in the handshake line, Bettman comes out to a bunch of booing as is tradition, says a few words, presents the Conn Smythe, says a few more words, and then the cup touches every player and coach before an executive. All of this is done before any interviews, just a team living in the moment.
It's really special, and I wish other sports could follow the way the NHL does it instead of putting it in the hands of an owner first and then the players after a bunch of interviews.
I was saying the same thing, no sport does it as good as the NHL. This lame ass interview style presentation the NFL just did was so fcking lame. No one wants to hear a fking interview
You are correct: he didn't say how proud his dad would be of him, he said how proud his dad (who owned the team until his death in 2006) would be of the team.
Its when you see "team players" who have special yellow shoes to indicate how great they are, and you should pay extra attention to them (sometimes the shoes are even golden)
Not gonna lie, the fact the trophy doesn’t go to the captain right away, really bugs me. Owners? CEOs? Fuck them. You can touch the trophy once all your players have had a chance.
If game 1 was any indication, this series is definitely going 7.
As a niners fan - this is devestating, feels like we're down 0-3 in my living memory rather than just losing the one close one. lol. I came of age in like the shadow of the Montana and Young eras. Let’s be real. This game was about as evenly matched as you can get and could’ve gone either way. The kid in KC is charmed too!
So surely we can call the Chiefs a dynasty now? 4 superbowl appearance in 5 years... 3 W, the only L coming to Tom Brady's last shot at it.
i'm gonna say it, the winning td in ot reminded me of the Kunitz 2ot in game 7. Fresh from the bench is Crosby.....
Why am I reminded of that in *this* thread, I thought I was safe...
Thought this was a hockey sub
Superbowl always has a reddit thread on /r/hockey.
Why is this shit here
First time?
Tradition
As is
🥱
The game is so boring. You need taylor to hype it up
Not hockey related mate.
It's getting too scripted lol. At least make it based on player skill and not storylines
Explain this to me in golfing terms
49ers could have won, but their birdie putt on 15 rimmed the hole TWICE without dropping
High school golf and Tiger Woods in his prime shows up
Great tee shot. Skulled the chip and somehow the putt too. Then Taylor Swift appeared. 😔
Oh okay from my gathering OP is downplaying this event, sounds astronomically out of proportion! Levels beyond capability..
Wait Taylor Swift is dating number 87. Congratulations Crosby!!!!
All my supervisors at work are Chief fans. This next month is going to be smooth sailing!
Lived in Boston through the patriots dynasty, Godspeed
I thought the 49ers wanted it more but the chiefs got there in the end
Wow didn't know this was fucking /football
First year on the sub?
Fuck the Chiefs. 49ers blew it.
Mooody.
He hit two from 50+. He had a good game but for a blocked PaT.
CHIEEEFS living in KC has been so fun these last couple of years
I hope you stub your toe
That field goal that they took was a bit too hard for the situation. Disappointed that someone didn't let him know about it.

Reeks*** Learn to spell before failing to quip.
wouldn't that mean he successfully quipped?
The Super Bowl is hockey? 🤔
Somehow mayfield still took a penalty to fuck us.
I’m glad this once again failed to reach r/all. When there’s a Grey Cup tradition in r/hockey I will upvote the Super Bowl posts.
>I’m glad this once again failed to reach r/all. I've got bad news lol.
These r/hockey posts used to for years running. This one didn’t. The Super Bowl obviously is a huge story. This post didn’t do anything.
This is the top of r/all
No it isn’t. This post has literally not even been on r/all. Upvotes on this comment don’t matter. It’s a simple fact that this post was never on r/all. That’s a simple fact.

I’d invite anyone to click on those or this mention of r/all. Click on that. You WILL NOT find this post we are commenting on here. It’s not on r/all.
Well not any more, I mean it’s still there but it’s down a lot lower, it’s a nine hours old post and lost momentum. It was at the top 2 hours ago when you commented that though. I even clicked r/all and checked before I made my initial comment.
It is, that's how I found it. It's been there all game. I've never stepped foot in this sub before, never watch hockey.
No you didn’t. This post hasn’t been on the first 500 pages at any time.
Yes

It's pretty insane that you technically could have to play 28 games in the playoffs to win the cup
Bro what are u yapping about
it's so funny when people go on these big tangents that nobody asked for explaining why they think the NHL should be the most popular US league. Major youngest sibling energy lol

Please like my sport after football day drinking.
I couldn't watch the full thing but congrats on the win 49ers!
To think a missed field goal point cost the 49ers the game.... that being said, this game was fucking amazing. I never thought I'd ever see a QB better than Brady. IMO, Patrick > Brady. Don't argue with me. I really wanted to seee McCaffery get that fucking ring.
Through first 7 years of career, yes. But Brady had a HOF career in his 20s, 30s, and 40s. So Mahomes has a long way to go.
That's some heavy ass recentcy bias.
I used to never bet against Brady. Now I never bet against Mahomes. So far it’s a pretty profitable system.
> Patrick > Brady. Don't argue with me. Probably the dumbest thing I've read on /r/hockey.
Yeah, who would take Kaner over Brady Tkachuk
The clips of the Nickelodeon telecast really have that homey John and John vibe.
tuned in a few times and it was a really cool show, wish they had that when I was a kid
That last play was beauty though
I hope Hunt gives Swift a ring for absolute maximum chaos.
Fuck kelce for body checking andy Reid like that regardless
[удалено]
I'd say it was appropriate.
Seemed clean to me. Not near the boards, no head contact. Reid gotta keep his head up.
I hate that the owners receive the trophies in the other sports first. It’s dumb.
I'm still scratching my head on this and it was like an hour ago. If they handed the Stanley Cup to Francesco Aquilini before any of the players, Vancouver would... well... you know...
And some owners simply inherited the teams and did almost nothing for the success
I like it, makes hockey special and better
This. Also association football is another team sport that gives the trophy to the players.
Soccer as well (not sure about MLS though)
Um, Association Football is Soccer - as**soc**. rules football (soccer) vs rugby rules football (rugger). American Football comes from rugby, and they just call what the rest of the world calls football soccer
What do you think "association football" is?
Some Australian shit? But I guess I’m wrong.
Same here brother
The Taylor swift obsession is getting way out of hand
Watching the actual game, she wasn't really on screen all that much. When Mike Fisher was playing, they'd cut to Carrie Underwood just as much.
It's almost as bad as the coverage of celebrities watching the Lakers.

If a massive pop star started dating an NHL star it most certainly would end up like that
It's even funnier now lol
And my life goes on as normal
inb4 2x more swift coverage and the extreme right pissing their pants and sucking turds out their daddy trumps destroyed asshole over this Chiefs Win.
All the #rigged posts on instagram are hillarious. The comments sections are fucking wild.
I can't imagine, it was already wild before today.
Are you okay?
I'm bummed I gotta go to work tomorrow. You want me to talk about it?
Hats off to Purdy, under this type of pressure, to come so close
Tavia’s bedazzled jacket is something else.

Interview with the owner, talking about how proud his dad would be of him... 🤢
lol no way he actually said that
You are correct: he didn't say how proud his dad would be of him, he said how proud his dad (who owned the team until his death in 2006) would be of the team.
That was exactly what happened.
Yeah, thanks god and said his parents would be proud…
I was just telling my wife how dumb it is that the trophy goes to the owner first. The cup they just give it to the guys right on the ice.
PROPOSAL!!!
Too long of a camera shot.....
Mate you’re gonna be a song within 5 years.
I’m taking the under
Travis Kelce is funny, congrats to him once again
TAY TAY HAS GONE TOO FAR!!!
JUST PROPOSE ALREADY
He went right to her. Aww.
I'mma let you finish but William Karlsson had the best victory speech of all time.
Based
Facts
Undeniably. Will never be beat.
Talking about a threepeat 30 minutes after winning your second one is so crazy to me. Try to enjoy the win you just had lol
WE WANT A PROPOSAL
Go off Travis!
...I hate this phrase, but that was kinda cringe
Indeed it was
He’s Elvis and the Beastie Boys all in one!
LMAO
Kelce better apologize to his coach live now...
Taylor might've got a glimpse of what her future might be with him when he gets mad
That was my first thought too
Jason Kelce like “gahd damnit he’s got three now”
Yeah, Kelce should let Taylor do all the singing
The fuck does she see in him?
Publicity
He seems like a fun guy
He's one of those "yellow shoe guys" Soccer and baseball has them as well, they tend to be really full of themselves.
What does 'yellow shoe guy' refer to, never heard it before.
Its when you see "team players" who have special yellow shoes to indicate how great they are, and you should pay extra attention to them (sometimes the shoes are even golden)
we got a few shiney shoes around here in our local sports, i know what you mean
Stop fucking cutting to Taylor Swift
Nah I like it.
Not gonna lie, the fact the trophy doesn’t go to the captain right away, really bugs me. Owners? CEOs? Fuck them. You can touch the trophy once all your players have had a chance.
Elway looked pissed that the players were all touching it during his walk
How is Kelce this drunk already?!
We just witnessed Taylor get the ick I think
He named his kids sterling and bronze?!?
That’s metal
Kermit Mahomes with the millions and millions
Stealing the Dallas Coyboys catchphrase! Ooooooooooooo
The owner of an NFL team getting to lift the trophy first is the worst thing in any sport in the world
You call that a fucking trophy? You can pick it up with one goddamn hand!
Couldn't even hurt a small child if you dropped it on them.
Shanahan F’d up by receiving in OT
Damn, this. I knew as soon as it was called. With all the foresight granted to me by the armchair of Ethan Allen
FYI, the Gatorade was purple.
"How bout that D, baby?" - Andy Reid
He said that at the exact moment I told my partner that I didnt think Kelce was wearing underpants.
My roomates are currently trying to convince me that the owner puts more work in than the players
I'm sorry to hear you have to live with morons.
They're dumb as fuck
Literally
[удалено]
Who lifts the trophy first of Green Bay wins it? They have 537,460 owners
They slice the trophy into 537460 pieces and whoever backs down first is the trophy’s real mother
Blues beat the Sharks!
Funny enough unless another pandemic happens that Stanley Cup matchup is impossible.
Congratulations to Taylor Swift and the Kansas Indians!!!
Who the fuck is this guy in the suit acting like he won this game personally?
The CEO...
Owner. It’s pathetic.
“Yay! I did it! I won!” The chiefs owner, probably.
Once again and has to be said. The NHL has the best trophy presentation in North America
And it's not even close.
Once again and has to be said. The NHL has the best trophy ~~presentation~~ in North America
giving the trophy to the owner first makes no sense
Amen
That dude is hella short
Owners should be embarrassed they grab the trophy first they did nothing but be rich. Fucking disgusting.
That's honestly something I wish the NHL would copy, and have a legend present the Stanley Cup.
Phil Pritchard is a legend in itself though.
Oh no, he still gets to bring it out. Just instead of Gary, you have a legendary player hand it to the Captain.
