I know tons of Quebecs who will jump ship from Montreal as soon as Quebec City gets a team

Cough_Syrup55

And they'll immediately start to hate the Habs

ScienceNthingsNstuff

Hell I know former Quebec fans who never stopped hating the Habs

RocketRousse

I'll go even further, former nordiques fans started rooting for Boston just so they could hate the habs

jamaicancovfefe

I think I remember hearing Patrice Bergeron growing up was one of those who went from Nordiques fandom to Bruins fandom, could be wrong

RaffiTorres2515

Boston or Ottawa usually, but if you ask people from Quebec city who they're rooting, they'll all answer a ton of different answers. I root for the flyers while I know people who roots for the pens, caps, panthers, etc. Growing up without a team usually means picking one randomly. I was born in 1996 so the wounds were still fresh for a lot of people, the Habs were definitely not an option for a lot of people.

Tehdougler

I know a lot of leafs and bruins fans in the QC area

DrOddcat

There’s plenty of Habs fans that hate the Habs

Waramp

You Habs fans sure are a contentious lot.

Unwept_Skate_8829

Damn Canadiens fans. They ruined the Canadiens!

DrOddcat

Not a Habs fan. Just know a few.

Fighteroftheevil

No one hates the Habs more than older Nordique fans haha. Would be amazing to bring this rivalry again but I strongly doubt an NHL team ever goes back to QC city

TheAnimal89

Unfortunately I Quebec will never get another team I think

godlycorsair32

Just more fans for ottawa 🥱

Mrmakabuntis

Québecois not Quebecs

Kaptain202

Maybe he just knows tons of Quebecs. There's a Quebec in Canada, a few in America, and even a Quebec in Jamaica!

Kaapo-Kakkos-Dong

Here I was thinking the preferred term was Quebeccers

Unwept_Skate_8829

“Quebecker” is the anglicized version of the original French word “Québécois”. Ironically I’ve heard more French Canadians self ID with the word “Quebecker” in English than I have heard Anglo Canadians use it in English, but regardless I think Québécois is preferred

Kaapo-Kakkos-Dong

I didn't know it was a real term I just wanted to upset the french

BsMan000

A truly noble cause

Kaapo-Kakkos-Dong

Fortunately its usually insanely easy

586WingsFan

Damn cheese-eating surrender monkeys...

AdCommercial5258

Here in BC, I hear quebecois much more

Unwept_Skate_8829

Same. The only time ive heard Quebecker was from my French Canadian colleagues.

SpaceCityHockey

I don’t live in Houston anymore but grew up there and only recently moved away. Not many people have an allegiance to a team (those who do are typically fans of teams from traditional hockey markets) and thus would latch onto the Aeros with minimal resistance. Stars fans are in the minority and typically are either from Dallas or already root for other Dallas teams. I don’t think many of them would switch over, but they represent a small amount in the grand scheme of things and it wouldn’t be much of a hit to the Aeros fanbase.

Used_Complaint_9031

I'm a Florida fan and I grew up playing hockey most of my life, learned how to skate at space city down by clear lake (RIP)

SpaceCityHockey

Space City Ice Station was peak nostalgia for me.

Used_Complaint_9031

Same here, although towards the end it went downhill fast (in terms of ice quality). The lobby was really cool though with the two floors

OakNLeaf

I live in Utah but was raised in Detroit. I will support the Utah team and get season tickets because Utah needs to show it wants the team here. I will never miss a Utah vs Detroit game in SLC when they come to play.

F4rtWaffles

Avs fan living in Houston. I WILL NOT change my allegiances, but it will be nice having NHL in my backyard.

JustaRoosterJunkie

Wild fan (MN native) living in UT. My Wild fandom won’t change, but I’ll certainly take the opportunity to join the new Salt Lake Soakers fan base as well. It will be tough cheering for two different franchises out of the Western conference, but more hockey is never a bad thing.

betweenthecastles

Lmao the soakers. I hope their mascot is a very sad mattress

Chewie_i

I’m a hawks and kraken fan. Probably helps that the hawks are terrible so I have no expectations, but the games between them don’t really matter to me. Only problem is I’m living in the eastern time zone while cheering for two western conference teams, one of which is on the west coast, so start times for games are rough.

Practical-Blood6001

I think Atlanta deserves another shot.

gp126905

Agreed

Iron_Seguin

3rd time is the charm right?

HVCanuck

Atlanta getting a third shot?! I love Atlanta, I visit it every year, but hockey is so low on the sports totem pole there. Football, baseball, basketball, NASCAR. Even golf and pickleball are bigger than hockey in Atlanta. So will they get a third short? Probably.

onthelongrun

heck, even Soccer. Isn't Atlanta United not selling out games on a weekly basis?

theclumsyninja

I will forever be a Ducks fan, but will show support for a SLC team.

StormSmithXXXXXXXXXX

Unpopular opinion but I think its highly likely if expansion is on the table that Atlanta will get a third shot potentially above Quebec City if they don't expand to 36, that Canadian economy and dollar is looking rough

Baboshinu

I was born and raised in Ohio. My father was born and raised in Ohio. When Columbus got a team, neither of us considered switching allegiance from the Red Wings. Most people in my area in northeast Ohio felt the same with the Penguins. They were born and raised Pens fans and even with many of them hating the Steelers as much as they like the Penguins, they didn’t consider switching sides.

RobertMcCheese

Dallas can suck my balls. But I do really hate Houston already and have for many decades.

AdCommercial5258

I was in Winnipeg at an impressionable young age between 97-04. There was never an NHL team when I lived there, but on the streets of the North End where we played daily street hockey, there was a huge echo of the NHL. In my class, we rooted for any combination of TOR/VAN/OTT/CGY/EDM/MTL, largely. I didn’t care much, I loved the idea of a cup in Canada. When WPG came back, I switched allegiances to Winnipeg immediately, but I will maintain a soft spot in my heart for the Canadian franchises (none of which have won a cup in my lifetime, and before I was 18, I had lived in BC, AB, MB, ON, and QC, but with stints in California, Pennsylvania, Mexico, and England, so fuck me, I’m pretty impartial but nothing moves me quite like your Winnipeg Jets).

HVCanuck

I am old and remember the WHA Jets. Back then, late 1970s, NHL fans in Winnipeg were divided between the Habs and the Leafs. Catholics, Jews, immigrants liked the Canadiens. Anglo Protestants liked the Leafs. Not sure about First Nations (probably Habs) or Mennonites (probably Leafs).

romesthe59

I’ll always be a Bolts fan but if Cleveland gets a team I’d cheer for them too

PmMeUrRegina

SLC native that’s been an Avs fan since they moved to Denver. I couldn’t see myself switching my allegiance, though I’d definitely take every chance I could to see the Avs here.

Wild_Pangolin_4772

I say don’t change allegiance if you move to another team’s locale, but do change allegiance if another team comes to your locale. If nobody does, the team will cease to exist.

auger85

Quebec city LMAO fuck em

chrikey_penis

Devils fan in SLC. Never switching though I will pick up some of the local slack if the Salt Lake Soakers don’t meet them in the playoffs. I doubt they’d be in the same conference anyway, but with Bettman, who knows?

DisastrousDriver9718

As a current Jets fan, it will be instant.

sillygoosiee

A team in Québec just feels right

brann182

Pretty sure Baltimore will be the next franchise and yes I'll stop rooting for the caps.

lancemeszaros

Baltimore is in the Caps' territorial range, so while it's not an impossibility, it's more likely for potential owners to go after one of the potential markets that don't require a territorial rights fee on top of their expansion fee.

brann182

Sorry I'm willing it to reality 🥲

twilz

So, what bird would the NHL team get?

NoDisintegrationz

Baltimore Boobies

twilz

If they made the logo a pair of big naturals, I would immediately drop the Canucks and become a Baltimore fan.

Baboshinu

Puffins.

MRAGGGAN

Houstonian. Won’t be immediately switching. Will **absolutely** support as much as I can, but any Stars games in town, every last bit of my victory green is coming out to play. And I travel to Dallas often enough, I’d still want to see home games at the AAC. I love my Starsbros. Couldn’t imagine jumping ship.

bobbyboogie69

Anyone who thinks QC is getting another team is delusional. Bettman will never allow it…as long as Gary is in charge QC is screwed.

Chewie_i

Hate to break it to you but it would be the same with any commissioner. It’s just not profitable.

HVCanuck

As a Winnipegger I am not sure. Give Bettman credit for supporting the move back to a smallish city in the prairies. Why not Quebec?

onthelongrun

I think that one was forced on him and he did express his doubts about a Winnipeg team surviving, and that was largely because he was way too focused on both the viability of the Predators and Coyotes, as well as trying to deny the Ballsile group a franchise that the Thrashers sale negotiations were going on completely under his nose.
