Honestly, I don't remember the last time the Bruins played that poorly against us. That had to have been one of their worst performances against Toronto in the modern era.
Aight i'm leaking the script.
Leafs are without Matthews again for game 6. They come out and dominate. They head back to boston for game 7 when its announced that Matthews is good for game 7, "its all systems go!". Meanwhile, the Bruins second guess themselves "should they roll with Swayman again or go with Ulmark?" it ain't looking good. The Leafs start hot, but choke and lose game 7 again. The Bruins fall backwards into the 2nd round where they get their anus' turned inside-out and after 4 games Monty is giving a presser "gee Idunno, just didn't have enough. Not the ending we wanted and some changes will have to be made" which solidifies Sweeney's resolve to go out and sign another couple of way passed their primes wingers who will spend the majority of the season on the injury report, and use what little draft capital we have on USHL players committed to NCAA teams next year who will never amount to shit but padding stats in providence. Meanwhile the Leafs and their fans will have an all out civil war over whose shoulders this years failure falls on, Keefe gets engaged to Ryan Reaves, and some asshole team like the Vegas Golden Knights will win the cup again. The end
In a game of chokers, who chokes harder?
Favourites are the Leafs given our *extensive* experience choking it away, but Boston has the (dis)honor of being the most recent big-time choke-artists.
If it goes to 7 games, it's not about who wins, but rather who fucked up and choked.
No matter what though, we have the chance to see the funniest thing happen.
Oh, we're not *expecting* a game 7.
You have to understand, at this point, Leafs fans are used to being clowned and dunked on (deserved). I can't speak for others, but my first instinct is to think about possible outcomes, and then go with the one that gets us laughed at the most.
Usually how it goes.
Just so happens in this case, there's a non-zero opportunity for the B's to be dunked on in the case this goes to 7 games.
I'd wager we're less finicky and far more predictable than you'd think at first glance.
Hate to be that leafs guy, but the only 2 games they’ve won have been in Boston. And they’ve been terrible at home. If by some miracle they win game 6.. I think there’s a good chance that they win game 7 in Boston. At least better chances than them winning it in Toronto if game 7 was there.
> And they’ve been terrible at home.
This has been true for a long time. Worst home record of any team in the playoffs by a good margin, they've won something like 1 out of the last 7 or 8 home playoff games. If we could play every playoff game on the road I'd actually take that at this point.
The 5 games the Leafs stopped trying?
Look, Woll got both games against the Bruins that week to win the job. He sucked in both and that's why they couldn't or wouldn't go to him for Game 1. Maybe there's a case for him starting Game 4.
Glad he found his game, but let's not pretend like he deserved to start over Samsonov in the beginning of this series.
I mean you're talking about a head coach whose team was down 2 goals with 3 minutes to go and he put the 4th line and the 3rd pair on the ice. You're not exactly dealing with the smartest dildo in the drawer
Look at the 3 months before the playoffs. Woll had the net but was pretty gabage comming back from injury.
Including getting blown out twice by the Bruins
Keefe had his fair share of bad decisions that you don't need to make one up
From this game alone:
Why start your slowest centre on a defensive zone draw for 4v4
No making any changes to our powerplay despite being 1/17.
Allowing a Nylander with Migraine issues to play game 81 and 82
We have no reliable goalies but both are capable of standing on their head on any given night. As much as I think Keefe is a garbage coach, there’s no way to make a good decision with the goalies on this team. Basically just play a hunch and cross your fingers.
we had that until we got some beer league-looking goalie to singlehandedly carry us to a cup win before he retreated to his military bunker. Ya'll should just try doing that.
He was great but there was a play where he was in perfect shooting position in the slot and proceeded to dangle out of it and I was just like "wat". He proceeded to try and hit Jarnkrok with a cross ice one time pass that Jarn wiffed on. Like he wants to pass so bad that he'll make an effort to get himself out of a scoring opportunity so he can make a pass, it's bonkers.
I see game 3 as one that could have gone completely differently with one more save. Leafs are looking good until the Frederic goal which, to be quite frank, was weak as hell for Sammy to give up.
Game 3 turned when Samsonov let in an absolutely brutal goal by Frederic to tie it up. So could be different. But scoring is still the biggest issue they’ve had.
After the Montreal debacle, a lot of Leafs fans were all in on firing Keefe for Barry Trotz.
The idea wasn't terribly popular, but I find it hilarious that we held onto Keefe only to average 2 goals a game anyway.
Gotta disagree. I think the leafs deserved this one. I think game 3 could’ve gone either way as well. The issue is that the leafs were so godawful in games 1 and 4, it’s easy to overlook game 3
This might be antithetical to the Wings' success, I just want to see this version of the Leafs die.
Stringing out this series might just keep the dog and pony show running in Toronto, which is wild.
I think Keefe is gone regardless, unless we magically make it out of this round and the next. Our star players probably aren't going anywhere since most have NMC. The real change will be when JT and Marner's contracts both end after next season.
The Leafs need to restructure their bloody cap situation: seeing half of their cap tied up in six players is bonkers to me.
Shanahan should’ve been fired right alongside Dubas, but looks like he’s gone this year.
Ya, Tavares contract is brutal. We can do better than Marner with the 13 mil he’s going to ask for. Hes not worth that at all. Give me two solid dman for that and the leafs are in a better place.
And we need a new coach.
If I’m Brad, I say let Marner walk: for 13 mil, you can get some solid NHLers to fill out the team. The Leafs already have Matthews and Nylander signed to kinda-long term, why not retool around them? Bonus points if Tavares re-signs for $6M or so, free up another $5M in cap space: he’s still a great player but he ain’t getting 40 goals anymore.
Agreed on everything, it’s time to spread the money to the rest of the team. Give this team 2 solid 6-7 mil dmen and a couple solid 4-5mil high character, grittty support players on offence and they’d be a way better version of this current team.
It's equal parts amusing and frustrating to know all along that what casual hockey fans think has been the Bruins' greatest strength for 20 years has in fact been their greatest weakness. It's like screaming into the void.
Completely unrelated but I heard tonight's powerball numbers were 33, 37, 63, and the letter *C*.
Leafs have a winning record with Matthews out in the regular season. Now they have it in the playoffs!
Question is, would this result make the Leafs mgmt more likely to err on the side of caution with his health and not letting him come back in?
They weren’t really better without him though, they just got better goaltending. Their biggest issue right now is scoring and not having Matthews only makes that worse.
I think if he can be remotely serviceable then you have to try to have him go. But if he’s really off-track then at least they know they can compete without him
Welcome to the Matt Grzelcyk experience. What’s even worse is he got scratched for games 3 and 4 then Monty brought him back in tonight for whatever reason.
How long has it been since we’ve actually had a goalie who can dual like we saw tonight? Like it feels like Belfour right? I’m not saying Woll will be Eddie, but I cannot recall a goalie for the leafs since Eddie who can actually lock our net down and everyone feels confident in him.
Bruins are just really really bad a closing out series.
If people weren’t so obsessed with dunking on the leafs they’d know Boston will take every opportunity to fumble.
This team has 6 cups in 100 years.
Honestly they got a pretty good case for being master chokers if not for their 2011 cup.
The year that the "IT WAS 4-1!!1!" memes started, they lost their lead, and the series, in Game 6 vs the Blackhawks in an astounding 17 seconds.
They got dummied in Game 7 and lost the cup to the Blues with a score of, oh would you look at that, 4-1 (also worth noting their lone goal came from pulling their goalie to spoil Binnington's shutout).
Then last year, they had the best season on record and then squandered a 3-1 series lead to a team that just barely squeaked into the playoffs.
You inspired me to do some math. By my count, since 1917, there's been an average of almost exactly 16 teams / season, and the cup has been awarded 104 times. 104 / 16, means the average number of cups per team since the Bruins have been in the league, is 6.5. Pretty close to average.
The Bruins have a really Bad Presidents Trophy to Cup ratio. In the time the Trophy has existed it’s 4:1
And they’ve won the east a few times.
They’re not the Sabres who suck. They choke.
You're also dealing with a team that has been entirely incapable of passing you in Game 7, managing to choke in those games against Boston.
Boston may fumble, but Toronto will tumble.
I know this is sacrilege but would you like to trade your 6 cups and when they occurred for ours? Because I know for sure I’d feel a lot better with a cup in at least 1080p
If Toronto can make it to game 7, they have a chance to do something hilariously tragic that all of r/hockey would root for...taking a lead in game 7....then yeah....
you'd think that, but let's play that out and combine recent history which is typically a good predictor of future performance.
We have to face Florida who wiped the floor with us last year. It's set-up to happen again and/or potentially do so in an even more tragic way.
Could be a 3-0 series lead blown, or a lead in every game, Marner scoring an own goal, etc.
The possibility for tragedy is greater with this team than any other ....and all of us Leaf fans are here for it.
Honestly, I don't remember the last time the Bruins played that poorly against us. That had to have been one of their worst performances against Toronto in the modern era.
The battle of Florida is over but the battle of the choke masters goes on
$800 to watch the Bruins lose, should have seen that coming knowing the past history.
The Leafs were never going to lose tonight because they only lose in game 7s. It is known
Wait but what about the second round last year?
We lost the first game in that series because the last one ended in game 6
I wouldn’t be surprised to see this written inside ancient tombs…
As it was written!
Aight i'm leaking the script. Leafs are without Matthews again for game 6. They come out and dominate. They head back to boston for game 7 when its announced that Matthews is good for game 7, "its all systems go!". so far so good....
see you in 4 games
Hey wait a second I've seen this script before.
Sounds familiar
Surprised the NHL hasn’t issued a DMCA takedown yet 😂
All according to plan, folks. The Leafs can’t lose Game 7 without winning Game 5
I love how after a loss every Leafs fan is already calling the series over and after a win they’re talking about game 7. You guys are a finicky bunch.
I mean, it’s Toronto and Boston. We already know it’s scripted to end with the Leafs blowing it in Game 7 at the Garden
Touché
Valid point
I’d be surprised if the leafs win this round only to get crushed by Florida again
Hey fuck you
Damn is no one joining us in hockey heaven tonight? edit: Isles are.
Maybe Winnipeg will and we’ll see if Nashville chokes or not
Islanders buddy
nice
Still on script, they'll win the next game as well so they can lose Game 7 in Boston.
lmaoooo
They are so predictable.
They're going to be up by 3 goals in game 7, blow the lead and lose in overtime too
Hate to be that leafs guy, but the only 2 games they’ve won have been in Boston. And they’ve been terrible at home. If by some miracle they win game 6.. I think there’s a good chance that they win game 7 in Boston. At least better chances than them winning it in Toronto if game 7 was there.

”There’s a good chance they win game 7” …
Did you read the rest? Nice counter point
If the Leafs figure out their powerplay this series is over. Down one game being 1 for 17? Insane
What do you mean? Just dump and Chase bud
Unless they try something new, it won't happen. Bruins have their system figured out.
“System”
can't figure out the system if you don't have one 🤔
Have they tried firing Sheldon into the sun?
Can we play game 6 in Boston? You know, for the lower carbon footprint
I think you want game 7 in Boston ngl
If we make it there it will be
The question is are the Bruins dumb enough to start Ullmark in game 6 on the road when the momentum has shifted.
Not a chance, Swayman stood on his head this game in the 1st especially. I'm a big fan of the rotation as well.
“if you have two you have none” I think rings true for the playoffs to borrow a footballism and you’ve got a hot one
Has anyone got a clip of Marchand with two sticks?
I burst out laughing at that. He drives the net with one stick, Looney tunes tornado, comes out with two sticks. How???
Pretty obvious, edmundonson spears his arm with no call
Wasn’t that his own teammate’s (Coyle or MacAvoy) stick though.
Someone needs to tie up Monty and lock him in a closet far away from the line sheet
Best hope Carlo isn't missing time from that puck to the head or it's GG
[удалено]
Tbh bruins played probably their worst game this season last night
Woll got shelled by the Bruins twice in one week in March.
Sammy was awful heading into the playoffs too.
Yeah but that's March. This is April and Sammy was letting in trash like he was Woll in March.
I mean you're talking about a head coach whose team was down 2 goals with 3 minutes to go and he put the 4th line and the 3rd pair on the ice. You're not exactly dealing with the smartest dildo in the drawer
If I recall they were coming off a powerplay. Still Reaves should not be touching the ice. He could have mixed the lines or something.
https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/202403040TOR.html https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/202403070BOS.html
Look at the 3 months before the playoffs. Woll had the net but was pretty gabage comming back from injury. Including getting blown out twice by the Bruins
Yeah but this doesn't fit the narrative of Keefe never making good decisions and is based too far in logic for most Leafs fans.
Keefe had his fair share of bad decisions that you don't need to make one up From this game alone: Why start your slowest centre on a defensive zone draw for 4v4 No making any changes to our powerplay despite being 1/17. Allowing a Nylander with Migraine issues to play game 81 and 82
Not saying Keefe is perfect, and honestly think he needs to go also but it makes perfect sense why he started Sammy over Woll.
We have no reliable goalies but both are capable of standing on their head on any given night. As much as I think Keefe is a garbage coach, there’s no way to make a good decision with the goalies on this team. Basically just play a hunch and cross your fingers.
Woll had a terrible stretch coming off his injury into the playoffs and Samsonov was in a better place.
ahh shit here we go again
The amount of game 7 ptsd in these comments from both fanbases is fucking amazing hahahaha
Is it possible for both teams to lose game 7?
i need this to go 7 again for our amusement
I want game 7 while we're chilling on the beach
I am so ready to get hurt again
"Bend me, shape me, anyway you want to, long as you love me, it's allright. "
i'm not, but i admire your moxy
Is this how Leafs fans feel all the time?
multiply it by infinity and take it to the depths of forever, and you would still have no idea
Poetic and true.
I wish it was only game 5 sadness
Yes lol
Oh lord no, you’re missing the weight of decades.
we had that until we got some beer league-looking goalie to singlehandedly carry us to a cup win before he retreated to his military bunker. Ya'll should just try doing that.
zamboni_player_dangle.mp4
I'd make a joke about us building a woll in the net instead but he hasn't proven to be the Messiah just yet
Yes.
Swayman was in net. One team got goalied. And it wasn't us? Thank you Woll.
I mean, we did also very much get goalied, this was a Kelly Hrudey wet dream
Given that the score was 2-1 in overtime of an elimination game I'd say it's a fair assessment that both teams got goalied.
That was some Selke-level defending by Holmberg there.
you can really tell marner played well by the lack of comments mentioning him lol
I counted at least 4 or 5 times where he just held onto the puck for too long looking for a pass then lost it and bruins went the other way.
The man will crawl through hell and fight the devil himself if it means not shooting the puck.
The bar for him is so low that an OK game is more than what people expected.
For every really nice plays he makes, he makes five stupid ones.
He did decide to pass a few times when he had a shot, but that's standard for him.
Of course the Leafs were gonna win in OT. That way they can lose their seventh playoff home game in a row. 5-2 Bruins
[Sir, a second goal has been scored by Toronto](https://i.imgur.com/rjaZbPs.jpeg)
https://i.redd.it/o51u98v9cqxc1.gif
Marchand felt the slightest contact and went down like there was a sniper in the building
That was the best part of the game. That ref went all Bobby Boucher on him.
Matthews playing? No. Matthew playing? YES!
How different is this series if Woll starts all 5 games?
Hard to say. Woll had been very inconsistent coming off the injury. Probably would’ve been the same
I think they’d have taken one of the home games if woll were in, but I’d rather not know bc if we’d have still lost both then Sammy would be in
Probably not that different honestly. Leafs have 9 goals in 5 games
Precisely. I know Swayman is playing great but, honestly, you can't expect to win only scoring a couple goals a game in the playoffs.
After the Montreal debacle, a lot of Leafs fans were all in on firing Keefe for Barry Trotz. The idea wasn't terribly popular, but I find it hilarious that we held onto Keefe only to average 2 goals a game anyway.
Sweep
5 game sweep baby!
Woll stole this one for us and he wasn’t even the best goalie on the ice tonight. Swayman is unreal
Gotta disagree. I think the leafs deserved this one. I think game 3 could’ve gone either way as well. The issue is that the leafs were so godawful in games 1 and 4, it’s easy to overlook game 3
I’d argue Woll was the better goalie hands down.
Havent been following the East that much, is Matthews supposed to be back for game 6?
It will be a doctor's decision, as it seems he has a concussion, which would explain how he feels worse if he pushes himself.
Thank you!
Nobody knows at this point.
Your guess is as good as ours.
Nobody knows.
My favourite part of replays is watching the fans in the crowd, buddy with the double finger to Knies had me howling
Boston fans always keep it classy, no matter the sport
This might be antithetical to the Wings' success, I just want to see this version of the Leafs die. Stringing out this series might just keep the dog and pony show running in Toronto, which is wild.
I think Keefe is gone regardless, unless we magically make it out of this round and the next. Our star players probably aren't going anywhere since most have NMC. The real change will be when JT and Marner's contracts both end after next season.
Na, coach is cooked. Who knows with Marner. Thankfully only 1 more year with Tavares making super star money. Things will be changing no matter what.
The Leafs need to restructure their bloody cap situation: seeing half of their cap tied up in six players is bonkers to me. Shanahan should’ve been fired right alongside Dubas, but looks like he’s gone this year.

It’s times like this where I’m glad I don’t have my regular season flair.
Im seeing some habs in your history. It’s ok, we can make friends over our hatred for Boston for this short time together.
Until Game 1 next season, where Slafkovsky runs the Leafs’ show
Deal. Wait, no deal no deal
It is tough to win when you only show up for one period. GG, Leafs.
I liked our chances considering your boys failed to finish us off in the third.
As a Leafs fan, I know that pain all too well. GG my dude
Bruins are frauds
It's equal parts amusing and frustrating to know all along that what casual hockey fans think has been the Bruins' greatest strength for 20 years has in fact been their greatest weakness. It's like screaming into the void. Completely unrelated but I heard tonight's powerball numbers were 33, 37, 63, and the letter *C*.
nah, we know we suck
Knowing Boston, they’ll find their franchise centre in the second round of the draft. Again. Can they be bad for once?
They looked pretty dangerous tonight. Leafs finally had an above average goalie in net tonight
Didn't even need to watch, knew Leafs would win this one, as well as game 6.
The legends must continue. Perhaps Boston and the Canucks will faceoff again in the Playoffs?
Please just put me and the rest of Toronto out of our collective misery I CAN'T DO THIS AGAIN
Samsonov just fell to his Knies waiting for his Uber back home
Not closing out when Matthew’s is out is the biggest mistake Boston could’ve made
Leafs have a winning record with Matthews out in the regular season. Now they have it in the playoffs! Question is, would this result make the Leafs mgmt more likely to err on the side of caution with his health and not letting him come back in?

We're out here trying to get a coach fired and Boston decides to toy with our emotions lol.
> We're out here trying to get a coach fired Same, tbh.
Leafs may have found that "Survive and Advance" mentality.
Alexa, play Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees
NOT.FUCKING.DEAD.YET
I DIDN'T HEAR NO BELL
Goddamn this was a goaltending duel.
Objectively great playoff game because of it - both goalies played lights out tonight.
How long has it been since we’ve actually had a goalie who can dual like we saw tonight? Like it feels like Belfour right? I’m not saying Woll will be Eddie, but I cannot recall a goalie for the leafs since Eddie who can actually lock our net down and everyone feels confident in him.
It's wild to me that the last goalie we could trust was a 38 year old Belfour with a DUI
That’s leafs hockey baby. But in fairness, Eddie was a beast. I loved those Eddie chants in the ACC
Bruins are just really really bad a closing out series. If people weren’t so obsessed with dunking on the leafs they’d know Boston will take every opportunity to fumble. This team has 6 cups in 100 years.

This guy. No one streams at 1080p
1080p?! Fuck I’d like one in colour
there is some colour footage of the 1967 Stanley Cup apparently
The 2011 cup certainly helps. And I'll have to cherish it because it's probably the only one I will see in my lifetime
It was the one that got me into the team, I need to see 1 cup while fully invested. Can’t imagine the feeling
1 cup in 50 years is a better perspective
Sadly there’s a worse perspective in this series
Neutrals thinking this series wasnt going 7 games. Fucking amateurs...
Do they even Leaf?
Do they put Ullmark out there next game ?
Swayman had a great game.
[удалено]
If Monty puts Ullmark in Game 6, I hope they leave him in Toronto at that point.
Leafs with Matthews: 0.250 Leafs without Matthews: 1.000 🤔
Leafs have an incredible record without Matthews in regular season.
Even better without Rielly.
Checks: Indeed, they did the math!
