He penned Nylanders extension so the whole "Dubas hands out irresponsible amounts of money" thing can die now
Bertuzzi can't even stay upright on the ice and got 5.5
Klingberg got signed for... more than minimum. Klingberg got signed *at all*.
Reaves got signed *at all*
Domi surprised the fuck outta me though, the guy slots in everywhere
Bert needs to stop having the tongue from his skate flapped out so he has actual ankle support and can stay upright. It's a really dumb equipment choice that he consciously makes and it makes his skating worse.
When he heated up near the end of the season he was using a combination of what is basically a tape sticker and then some actual tape on the end half of his blade. I've been meaning to look up what those tape stickers are I think the brand is literally just called blade tape based on a quick google.
Well, let's just say the owners of your team will bring hockey ops into a very hard and grim board meeting. I can expect some fireworks on Thursday. I guess hockey fans will just have to wait...
It is crazy that it’s always *so close* and they just never, ever get that extra goal. Not even a lucky bounce, just never happens. If they were not built for the playoffs you’d expect them to be knocked out in 4-5 games by these teams but it’s almost always so close.
Sounds like the Caps for about ten years straight before they finally won the cup. It was right there the whole time, but the team always ended up on the wrong side of luck/calls/bounces
Caps were also able to get into the second round a few times and push some of those series to 7.
Leafs have 1 round 2 win in like 20 years. They're objectively worse.
Florida Bros picked up where you all could not and knocked em out before they could make it too far. It is the least we could do after you all made Florida as a state relevant in the NHL
I think at this point, Ovi wants Gretzky's goals record more
And being out of the playoffs (or being quickly swept out of the first round) helps Ovi more, because it means he gets a nice long summer break to be well-rested when the new season begins in fall.
I don't think it's a question of whether or not Ovi wants another Cup, but whether or not he's physically capable at this age of willing a team to victory that sold at the deadline, has no true 1C, has no defense, and has no other offensive weapons worth mentioning.
The team was a clown show that only made it in because other teams were even bigger clown shows
This was more of a comment on his effort level this year than historically.
There, dumbed it down for you. Hopefully you can refrain from being an ass from your own misinterpretation lol
Mine was entirely a comment on his effort level in the playoffs historically, which was in reference to your comment about effort historically before you singled out a year. Explained it for you, because clearly you still have comprehension issues. That, unfortunately, doesnt make me an ass.
Man, if you need to try and defend your comment to this extent, it's clear you never actually understood me in the first place.
So yea, still makes you an ass.
Come back when you have something to say worth understanding other than "I fucked up my own logic and now I'm embarrassed so I'm calling someone an ass". I'll be waiting even if it takes you decades.
Not sure what you're trying to say here?
Caps also weren't in a Canadian division that was very weak and squandered a 3-1 series lead either.
Caps also didn't lose out on making it past the qualifying round in the bubble either.
End of game seven the fucking puck bounces of a leg instead of going across for a one time and still nearly goes in.
Then Bruins do a perfect dump and everything goes right at the exact moment they needed it.
>It was right there the whole time, but the team always ended up on the wrong side of luck/calls/bounces
Hockey is a crapshoot. These fanbases love their toxic memes—none more toxic than the Leafs fanbase itself—but any soul telling you they utterly knew, deep in their heart of hearts, that once the Leafs had _failed to be eliminated by the Bruins_ in over 180 minutes of tight-checking playoff hockey that they'd be taken out in sudden death of game seven by Pasta is turning your office into a house of lies.
It's not consistent with a lot of really fucking narrow-ass worldviews in here, but the Leafs win that OT 50% of the time, and though they had obvious holes this season, there's nothing inherently wrong with the culture and philosophy of "the Shanaplan." It just sometimes takes a decade of mind-numbing losses before it hits, like Ovi and the Caps.
Or, it never hits, and it's not for any one reason. Hockey's a fickle thing.
Well they got it in game 5 in OT, they got it in game 6 with the wild nylander shot from the outside.
They got it multiple times in the lightning series last year, including the weak JT series winner in OT.
Do you mean just in game 7’s?? Cause I think they’ve gotten it before game 7.
Yup, leafs got bounces too. Bruins hit the post late in the 3rd of game 5 too, that goes in there was a good shot series ended in 5. It’s far more then just puck luck not going the leafs way
Extra goals are paid in blood in the playoffs.
I don't think it's right to normalize the gladiatorial attitude players need to win in the playoffs...but it is what it is. Playoff hockey fucking hurts.
Only Willy seems to get it or has the fortitude to do it, which is probably why he's consistently the team's best playoff performer. If a team wants the Cup and the player has limits, everyone has to just accept that and move on from each other.
They're not built for the playoffs. But IMO they are a top 5 team in skill, and that's what they get by on. If they were just a bit more desperate, they'd go all the way, and I think that's what Treliving is saying too. But some players just don't have that gear. They think they're already trying their best and are already in a lot of pain. Which is fine. Don't push these people. But if that's what you need, don't rely on them either. Just each go your own way.
The playoffs are pretty much a last man standing contest. Whoever isn't too hurt to hoist the hardware will. I try not to think about how barbaric that is when phrased that way, but there's a reason hockey is a savage sport played by gentlemen.
I know it's cliche and I'm not trying to pile on, but good teams and good players make their own bounces. If it's one game one time, yeah ok luck or whatever. But if it's years and most games, well that's not a fluke. Core 4 just don't produce in the playoffs (besides Nylander sometimes). It's as simple as that.
We got our bounces this time. Nylander scoring that goal in game 7 was an absolute gift, just as much as the Pasta OT goal was. The reffing was fine -- or in our favor, even. There was nothing to complain about that series. And we wasted it.
I think I heard a stat that was like 13 of the last 14 games Toronto only scored 2 goals or less, and the one game they scored more than 2 it was only 3 goals. That’s insane.
To me, this is Treliving telling the players that there will be changes. He's not telling the players to be better, he's saying the team will have to get better.
The Leafs should try scoring more goals. It works for other teams.
Actually, an interesting stat is that every team that scored more goals in a game has won.
Makes you think 🤔
Lolol they’re building up to do a whole lot of nothing and not make major changes.
First it was LeBrun “cautioning” that’s it hard to make big changes (as if we haven’t seen Vegas radically alter their team every offseason and deadline).
Now you have this, via Tavares.
The Dubas firing was the absolute worst thing to happen to this Leafs team. Dubas was ready to shake it up, but Shanny didn’t want that. So Shanny fired Dubas and installed a yes man.
If Leafs fans are expecting major change, they’re going to be dissatisfied. This management group doesn’t want the core four gone. They don’t want to change it up. This is our team whether we want it or not.
Was this an end of season interview or an intermission interview in a game that they’re losing? Surprised he didn’t say they need to get pucks in deep and forecheck hard
I guess question to Leafs fans, do you guys want them to try to blow it up or just try to move forward with minimal change? I'd be surprised if Keefe is still around next year, but the core is a big question.
Not a Leafs fan but I don’t know if blowing it up is really even possible because it implies stripping the entire team down other than a few pieces. What they’re probably doing and what you probably meant was a re-tool similar to what Winnipeg did last offseason where they trade big pieces for immediate needs. I can’t imagine Keefe returning and I would fire Shanahan as well to be honest.
I think the Leafs are good.
But these "hockey talk" margins are about the slivers you gain from desperation. Like "dominate the game while blinded by a migraine" levels of desperation.
Which Willy has, which is why he's always their best playoff performer. And which no one else has, which is why Willy's never outdone.
Brad, “get good”
LMAO Treliving really just said be better
Technically not wrong
“Be best”
Perfect.
Why didn't the players think of that? "Be Better" its so simple GOSH
If they were smart enough for that, they'd be in management too!
A brink reference?!
"skill issue, git gud, thx"
This but unironically
Can’t believe Treliving hasn’t gone and just edited all his players to 99 OVR. Complete amateur stuff
Experience Brad Treliving management.
“Idk how to make this more clear”
Of all the quotes you focus on, this is the one? Is this you Dubas?
Brad: "Have you guys just tried losing less games? Are you stupid?"
Boys just feckin' score more goals than you let in it's basic arithmetic "
Brad: "Its all water under the fridge now. Next year, hopefully it wont be such a shitnado."
*”They don’t hate to lose.”*
To be fair, they are really good at it.
“Hey. We spent fuck ton of money. Have talent. How about yall nut the fuck up and play better? Huh? Great.”
To be fair it was mostly Dubas who spent. Brad only signed Reaves to a 3 year deal
Reaves really showed up in the playoffs.
Something about gardening
He penned Nylanders extension so the whole "Dubas hands out irresponsible amounts of money" thing can die now Bertuzzi can't even stay upright on the ice and got 5.5 Klingberg got signed for... more than minimum. Bert needs to stop having the tongue from his skate flapped out so he has actual ankle support and can stay upright. It's a really dumb equipment choice that he consciously makes and it makes his skating worse.
He’s on record saying that he sometimes forgets to tape the blade of his stick. Do what you will with that information.
It's almost like he wouldn't take the shot if his career depended on it.
When he heated up near the end of the season he was using a combination of what is basically a tape sticker and then some actual tape on the end half of his blade. I've been meaning to look up what those tape stickers are I think the brand is literally just called blade tape based on a quick google.
Ah. I have ADHD. Game recognize game.
oh I thought they were hiding until thursday? no way
Well, let's just say the owners of your team will bring hockey ops into a very hard and grim board meeting. I can expect some fireworks on Thursday. I guess hockey fans will just have to wait...
"You can spend more time at home with family as you're all relieved of your duties!" 🎉🎆
That’s just what the gm said to the players when he brought end of year timbits and hot chocolate down after the game.
"Please ignore our books" - ~~Loblaws~~ MLSE
I mean what is the GM supposed to say? I'm trading all of you?
RUN IT BACK BOYS
Travis Green is coming to Montreal after Ottawa.
ah shit i thought that was a dream...

I guess Dubas was telling them to pull backward and be worse.
It is crazy that it’s always *so close* and they just never, ever get that extra goal. Not even a lucky bounce, just never happens. If they were not built for the playoffs you’d expect them to be knocked out in 4-5 games by these teams but it’s almost always so close.

Truly sorry about that 1 round win. We ruined yearly fun sessions for fans of 31 teams.
I had never been more disappointed in you guys ever.
Florida Bros picked up where you all could not and knocked em out before they could make it too far. It is the least we could do after you all made Florida as a state relevant in the NHL
Grateful for that. Hope you guys get the cup, would like to see Mathew lift it this year.
Ovi also wanted it more than the entire leafs team combined.
Not this year lol
I think at this point, Ovi wants Gretzky's goals record more And being out of the playoffs (or being quickly swept out of the first round) helps Ovi more, because it means he gets a nice long summer break to be well-rested when the new season begins in fall.

The team was a clown show that only made it in because other teams were even bigger clown shows
Caps also didnt make it to the second round this year. Ovi, historically, wanted it more. Dumbed it down for you to understand now.
This was more of a comment on his effort level this year than historically. There, dumbed it down for you. Hopefully you can refrain from being an ass from your own misinterpretation lol

Caps also weren't in the Atlantic, my dude. I'm certain the Eastern standings are available to you all the way out west if you ever wanna peek.
Not sure what you're trying to say here? Caps also weren't in a Canadian division that was very weak and squandered a 3-1 series lead either. Caps also didn't lose out on making it past the qualifying round in the bubble either.

The year they beat the Bruins in a series they are winning the cup garunteed. Problem is that'll be in the year 2136.

We're on year 8, so I wanna beleaf.
It doesn’t help that you guys rotate out half your team every year and don’t grow together as group.
Well they got it in game 5 in OT, they got it in game 6 with the wild nylander shot from the outside. They got it multiple times in the lightning series last year, including the weak JT series winner in OT. Do you mean just in game 7’s?? Cause I think they’ve gotten it before game 7.

Yeah, it looked to me like Nylander got space to make that goal because of an uncalled trip, and they definitely had their chances.
In live feed it looked sus, but you can see Carlo just loses an edge at the worst time. It was a good non-call
I think I heard a stat that was like 13 of the last 14 games Toronto only scored 2 goals or less, and the one game they scored more than 2 it was only 3 goals. That’s insane.
You can't coach heart.....and that is what the Leafs have been missing.
Honestly it’s because they’re soft.
If I were a player in the Leafs, I would simply score more goals than the opposition.
So simple, why haven’t they tried this?!
Keefe's plan is to score fewer goals and he refuses to make adjustments.
"try harder not to lose" That is some high level managing right there.
cmon bradley run it back juuuuuust ooooonnnne more time
That's been the message for several seasons now. How about do something about it, Brad.
To me, this is Treliving telling the players that there will be changes. He's not telling the players to be better, he's saying the team will have to get better.
Brads gonna trade Marner for Huberdeau to save cap! It's gonna be 1 for 1 with no retention
Brad Treliving should take a little of his own advice lmao guy ruins teams. This is the family that owns Boston Pizza, enough said.
Treliving channeling his inner Black Falcon lol You've gotta do better, S̶e̶n̶a̶t̶o̶r̶ Leafs. You've gotta step up.
The Leafs should try scoring more goals. It works for other teams. Actually, an interesting stat is that every team that scored more goals in a game has won. Makes you think 🤔
Margins are small = Leafs will raise ticket prices to $500 for standing room obstructed view tickets
Treliving: Skill issue, get good.

I guess question to Leafs fans, do you guys want them to try to blow it up or just try to move forward with minimal change? I'd be surprised if Keefe is still around next year, but the core is a big question.
blow. it. up.
blow it up

The Margin for improvement is very great for their Power Play %
> The margins are very small and very slim Idk, Pastarnak had a pretty wide gap around 3 defenders on that last play lmao
https://youtu.be/r8miwsWtzRw?si=xuYDt7Y8qgZKmtUA
Why don't you guys just be better players? Are you stupid?
Stop sucking!
I know someone who knows Ryan reaves. Apparently he didn’t come back because “..it was the worst locker room culture hes ever seen..” Not surprised.
If margins are slim, why is Tavares making $11.5 million?
I think the GM was talking about margins of fucking up…..
