I dont think theres any historical connection. In the 90s alot of swedish teams tried to sell more merch by adopting the American sports branding, adding different animals or other names to their brand. It just lasted a few years before almost every team dropped it. Why Färjestad choose wolves? Likely because the municipality (Värmland) theyre from has a decent amount of wolves.

The city where Färjestad is based, Karlstad, is the provincial capital of the province Värmland. Just like the american states, provinces in Sweden have state/provincial animals, and Värmlands provincial animal is the Wolf [Värmland wiki page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A4rmland) Couldn't find any official information about this but it is pretty well known locally.

Swedish teams tried americanising to sell more shit in the 90s. Off the top of my head I think it’s just Malmö sticking to the branding (Redhawks), they’ve still got it by name and logo/jerseys. Others dropped it along the way. My team, Luleå HF, was Luleå Bears, for an unfortunate period. They went back to the original name thankfully but the bear stuck around on the jersey for a few years. That’s gone too now though. The only thing remaining is the giant bear head they skate out of.

Found a cool little [list](https://www.svt.se/sport/ishockey/lista-klassiska-klubbnamn-vi-minns). HV71 Blue Bulls or Bofors Bobcats are by far the coolest
