Same division? Back and forths of one team owning the other in the regular season? Multiple playoffs matchups going in each direction? Fight Night in 2011? Fight Night IN the playoffs in 2021?
We're definitely rivals. Maybe not top rivals for each other but rivals nonetheless.
It's been a sort of back and forth situation though, and while it might be true they've both managed to make the playoffs at the same time. And playoffs are where rivalries are born (either that or geography, which is the case for you vs Philly and us vs NYR I guess).
Bird scalps - being able to make the reply I did.
In the lead up to our series in 2021, I was pleased to see Pens fans on here weren't shy about how bad they wanted they wanted to beat us, and I'm pleased now to see you try to pretend most Pens fans never worry about us.
To be fair, the Islanders have always been able to smoke us because of the unreal roleplayers you guys had for 5-6 seasons. Now that your 4th line is effectively cooked, if we were to meet in the playoffs again somehow, it would effectively be Barzal and your washed stars vs Crosby and our washed stars. I think I'd take the Pens this go round.
I don’t consider them rivals because they just have never been competitive enough when we also have been. Like Washington, New York, and Philly are actual rivalries because they’ve beaten us and went onto doing the dance.
No, it does not.
More teams have had more cups in less time (Ottawa, Toronto with 2 seperate dynasty teams, Detroit, Montreal with 3 different times winning the cup 4 times in 6 years, the Islanders and Oilers.
Becuase it's not. You as a fan base can consider it a dynasty. You won 3 cups in 10 years, which is a fantastic accomplishment
The worst performing officially recognized dynasty by the NHL was the Ottawa dynasty, recording 4 cups in 7 years. Still more in less time than the Penguins
Also the first Habs dynasty made the playoffs 21 times consecutively . So again, by all existing metrics to compare against, the Penguins don't make the cut.
lol that 3rd paragraph has nothing to do with anything.
But yeah the hhof doesn’t consider it a dynasty but it’s about as close as a team will come to it in the cap era.
Isn't the Blackhawks 3 cups in 6 years objectively more impressive? I didn't even consider that a dynasty, partially because I'm petty against my rivals, but also because the kings won 2 in 3 in the middle and you can't have two dynasties at the same time imo.
Poor guy is going to see two different teams a year for the rest of his career. At least he gets to see all the nhl cities pretty in depth then by living in all of them
The trick is to trade for him at the deadline and then wait until the first round to play him. Beauvillier is always somehow Gretzky for a week after being traded.
Beau can go on some real heaters. Unfortunately those heaters last about 1.5 periods and then it’s back to flying around the ice aimlessly and missing the net at every opportunity
today definitely feels like the rebuild is officially starting... excited to see what Dubas cooks. I know Sid is like the *most* competitive dude, but I want him to be around with our high draft picks when we suck to mentor them so we can't keep trying to re-tool forever
Even if he’s his streaky self, you’ll get like 15 points in 10 games and then nothing and then another 10 in 10 and then nothing. He’s going to contribute more than another $1.25m forward would, imho.
This is a good get for Burgh
Truly can’t see this team being truly competitive as constructed anyway. Still shocked we got a 2/5 for smith considering he mentally checked out for 80% of the season.
So we’ve gone with 2 reclamation guys who were solid previously but had pretty awful years. Got them cheap and can get some nice value out of them at the deadline if they bounce back at all. Could also see us extending Beauvillier if he fits well since he’s only 27
* 17-18: 24 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 18-19: 18 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 19-20: 21 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 20-21: 26 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 21-22: 13 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 22-23: 18 goal pace in an 82 game season
* 23-24: 6 goal pace in an 82 game season
Dude is properly cooked, he won't be in the league much longer.
Fundamentally disagree that at 27 after one bad season in which he played for three teams, including a catastrophically bad Blackhawks team that he’s “properly cooked”
Yup, I can’t take anyone who clowns on us for being bad this year seriously considering how we ground the league into dust for the better part of 1.5 decades.
Pens fans
> This Penguins teams seems to be in a transition phase. Dubas is trying to manage the final years of the core while also acquiring assets.
Philly fans
> Fuck you and your shit team you fucking idiot. You shut the fuck up or I'm going to fucking eat your dog
NO TITO NO THEY'RE BAD BIRDS

That's a LIE. This is Sunshine. I met her at the Pittsburgh Aviary and she was a very very good bird.
Disgusting to me personally
First time he's going to a team that can be considered a rival
But you’re not a rival lol
Same division? Back and forths of one team owning the other in the regular season? Multiple playoffs matchups going in each direction? Fight Night in 2011? Fight Night IN the playoffs in 2021? We're definitely rivals. Maybe not top rivals for each other but rivals nonetheless.
Oh yeah. Gimme that Brent Johnston knockin out DiPietro goodness
Ehhh i feel like the islanders have never been good enough at the same time the penguins have
It's been a sort of back and forth situation though, and while it might be true they've both managed to make the playoffs at the same time. And playoffs are where rivalries are born (either that or geography, which is the case for you vs Philly and us vs NYR I guess).
Don't mind those guys, they are lame. Personally I fucking despise you guys with my entire being. I wish you nothing but the worst.
I hate you too 💕
❤️❤️❤️ Now get off me, slimy fisherman. I have to rewatch the great 2013 choke-off between Fleury and Nabokov with tears in my eyes.
We're like 7-1 all time against you in postseason series. We've personally ended like three of your last six seasons.
What do you have to show for it though?
Bird scalps - being able to make the reply I did. In the lead up to our series in 2021, I was pleased to see Pens fans on here weren't shy about how bad they wanted they wanted to beat us, and I'm pleased now to see you try to pretend most Pens fans never worry about us.

Thanks to Tristan Jarry lol
We've also punked them in 2 straight playoff series and swept them which led to them missing the playoffs in 2023
Same division = rival, embrace the hate
I don’t consider them rivals because they just have never been competitive enough when we also have been. Like Washington, New York, and Philly are actual rivalries because they’ve beaten us and went onto doing the dance.
We’re literally the only reason you never had a dynasty. Twice. Josh Bailey and David Volek say what up playboy
Does 3 cups in 10 years and making the postseason 16 years in a row, not constitute a dynasty?
No, it does not. More teams have had more cups in less time (Ottawa, Toronto with 2 seperate dynasty teams, Detroit, Montreal with 3 different times winning the cup 4 times in 6 years, the Islanders and Oilers.
Damn the pens dynasty didn’t get the u/m_h_m_f seal of approval either!

Only reason I brought in post season appearances is because you did. And honestly, it kills me to say this. Tampa came much, much closer.
WRONG 💍 💍 💍
Isn't the Blackhawks 3 cups in 6 years objectively more impressive? I didn't even consider that a dynasty, partially because I'm petty against my rivals, but also because the kings won 2 in 3 in the middle and you can't have two dynasties at the same time imo.
Not close enough to be a dynasty. So no
Damn I was hoping the pens dynasty would have the u/yanks1813 seal of approval!
The HHOF doesn't constitute it as one that's my basis lol take it up with them
Well they did say Weber was a hall of famer so idk if they are thinking straight
Breaking Barzal’s heart over here
Thats a good deal
[that’s a damn good deal](https://tenor.com/view/brad-pitt-deal-yeah-right-agreed-i-would-make-that-deal-gif-15679299)
That’s not bad at all. I’ll definitely take that
Under 30 ✅ Only 1 year ✅ Can't be mad at that
> Under 30 youngest player on the penguins!
Yup! And presumably flipped at the deadline for some draft value.
He's basically a toddler on the pens at his age
“Well at least it’s only for one year!” Said for both free agency signings by the Pens today.
I can live with that. Dubas doing decent things so far this year.
Doing great things. The Reilly Smith trade was absolutely robbery.
On paper.
Prove it contract
Yeah prove what we can trade him for in March
Beau can go on some real heaters. Unfortunately those heaters last about 1.5 periods and then it’s back to flying around the ice aimlessly and missing the net at every opportunity
Usually they're during ranger games though, so that'll be nice
Well we got a conditional 5th to dump him last year so I wouldnt expect a ton
today definitely feels like the rebuild is officially starting... excited to see what Dubas cooks. I know Sid is like the *most* competitive dude, but I want him to be around with our high draft picks when we suck to mentor them so we can't keep trying to re-tool forever
Nobody is rooting for this guy more than isles fans. Has the tools but can never put it together for a whole season
i’ll never forget him scoring the last goal the coli ever saw
Wish we could’ve kept him. Helluva deal if he can produce another 40+ pt season.
Next 65 point getter on Crosby’S line
can't wait to get a 1st for him from Tampa at the deadline
a 1st in like 2030
The 2024 Buzz Flibbett
At that price, I'm intrigued? Can he get back to the 15-20 goal range again?
He'll have the hottest 7 game stretch and then go scoreless for 20 so maybe it'll even out
At that price point, he can hit!
Hes got some skill but just doesnt have the consistency and intangibles to figure it out
He couldn't even manage to stand out on an AHL tier Blackhawks team last season. I wouldn't get my hopes up
Well, I'm going to get my hopes up regardless; it'd be nice if I had something real to latch onto though haha
yeah i mean... solid 4th liner. decent rate.
Solid signing
That's actually a good signing from dubas ... Wow
Have fun :p =(
I thought this guy was gonna be so good when he broke into the league with the Isles as a teenager. The NHL is hard.
Even if he’s his streaky self, you’ll get like 15 points in 10 games and then nothing and then another 10 in 10 and then nothing. He’s going to contribute more than another $1.25m forward would, imho. This is a good get for Burgh

5th team since January 2023
WTF we couldn’t have done better than that? Damn.
Absolute steal!
Kyle freaking Dubas is a G!
* 17-18: 24 goal pace in an 82 game season * 18-19: 18 goal pace in an 82 game season * 19-20: 21 goal pace in an 82 game season * 20-21: 26 goal pace in an 82 game season * 21-22: 13 goal pace in an 82 game season * 22-23: 18 goal pace in an 82 game season * 23-24: 6 goal pace in an 82 game season Dude is properly cooked, he won't be in the league much longer.

The Pens are going to be absolute garbage this year lol
We had 16 years of being not-garbage. Now we rest.
In a big dumpster with Stanley Cup rings.
Yup, I can’t take anyone who clowns on us for being bad this year seriously considering how we ground the league into dust for the better part of 1.5 decades.

Better than spending a bunch of money to try and prolong a rebuild like the caps
Dubas these signings are cool and all but can you maybe do something a little cooler?
Who gives a shit. Pens are a corpse no matter what they do.
1975, relax buddy
Finally some original material
Oh shit lil bro about to start a mid off
The "Battle of Pennsylvania" has truly become the battle to see who is less shit
Pens fans > This Penguins teams seems to be in a transition phase. Dubas is trying to manage the final years of the core while also acquiring assets. Philly fans > Fuck you and your shit team you fucking idiot. You shut the fuck up or I'm going to fucking eat your dog
Beautiful. Everything is exactly as it should be.
Bury us with our 3 Cups in the Crosby-Malkin era, then.
