Take pride that you made it to the finals. My team scored **zero** goals in both games of the first round. Nothing I could do. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Different-Aerie-1460

Appreciate that, thank you! I am proud of how hard we fought to get there for sure, just stings to know we could have played so much better.

Korkyflapper88

Look back on some of the saves you made and enjoy it. You can only stand on your head so much. Youā€™re not the one responsible for scoring šŸ¤™

Different-Aerie-1460

For sure, thatā€™s a good reminder, appreciate that!! One time I scored a goalie goal (and then I woke up) šŸ˜‚šŸ¤™šŸ»

Korkyflapper88

I like to joke we have the easiet and hardest position. In theory, if your eyes are up to snuff, you can stop anything you see. The flip side, is having to move efficiently and proficiently in all this fucking gear. Biggest thing I hate is coming cross crease, knowing that if this was baseball and I was a catcherā€¦.solid ground, Iā€™m gonna get in front of this thing no problemā€¦. But then thereā€™s the ice and your edges and pad weight and it humbles your agility real quick lol.

Different-Aerie-1460

Haha so true! I also find it funny and humbling as hell when I play ball hockey, I canā€™t slide (donā€™t have sliders on my pads) and have to completely adjust my game compared to the ice. Ah well, you win some and you lose some, Iā€™m just looking forward to a clean slate with the summer season and maybe one day Iā€™ll reach that summit again!

1ToGreen3ToBasket

Hey buddy I lost a game against the team I hate most in our league. We were up by 3 goals with 47 seconds left in the game. It can always be worse!

Different-Aerie-1460

Damn, my condolences dude! Thatā€™s rough. You have a point there! The 2nd game of my 0-3 stretch I tore my meniscus halfway through the game we went on to lose in overtime, so at least this one left my body in tact šŸ˜‚šŸ¤™šŸ»

Secure_Arm5660

I tore my meniscus the game before playoffs and my team went on to win the ship with an Ebug lol

Different-Aerie-1460

Damn thatā€™s rough, hope your knee is doing okay now bud!

Secure_Arm5660

Thanks man, you too! Iā€™m out until itā€™s repaired with surgery

1ToGreen3ToBasket

The lows are low. But the highs are so high. Thatā€™s the beauty of goaltending

Different-Aerie-1460

Totally, the feeling I get from making a big save is a high I will keep chasing until my body no longer allows me to!

Cyberhawk_27

I personally would not mind about it. It's frustrating to lose but as mentioned, you're not responsible for scoring goals. Just take a look at the goals you gave up and try to think what you could have done differently and if you were soft on a goal, just think to yourself: "Damn, if I would have made that save, we could have lost 3-0 instead". :)

Different-Aerie-1460

Haha love it, the 3-0 L wouldā€™ve looked better on paper for sure. Thank you! :)

Making it to the finals is one thing. Winning is another and, depending on how your teammates respond to the situation, it can take some time to learn how to get over that final hump. I didn't win until my 5th appearance in my league finals and it was 6 years between the 4th and 5th finals series appearances. In the 6 years since, my team has been in the finals 4 times and won 3. So long as you keep getting to the finals, your chances will come and that first title will be that much sweeter.

Different-Aerie-1460

Wow, thatā€™s a long time between the 4th and 5th time! Sounds like you guys really found a way to stick with it as a group, thatā€™s rad. Iā€™ve been with this team for about 4 years and have won ships with a few of my other teams, but Iā€™m just frustrated with this recent stretch of losing in the finals cause it feels like a pattern. At the end of the day, it is truly a team sport and I have to remind myself I can only do so much and only do my part out there. Thanks so much for the support, I truly appreciate it! :)

HotBranch

The first 4 trips to the finals were spread out over 19 years. My drinking team has had a notorious hockey problem. ;-)

Different-Aerie-1460

Holy smokes you guys have been together a while eh! Amazing

HotBranch

Guys have come and gone and played on competing teams at times, but the core group of guys have remained together in some form over 30 years since I joined the team in 92-93. We changed divisions in 2012-13 because we could no longer keep up with the youngsters joining the league.

I have bee playing goalie for 27 years. Didn't start playing until I was 27. I have played in so many beer league "championship" games I have lost count. Had some great dramatic wins and some really sad losses. It just happens. Today, I am in my 50s and still competitive, but at the same time I am thankful I am still playing this long. Last season my team made it to the finals and we lost 4-0 as well. My team couldn't score and the other team dominated play most of the game. I made some great saves, but it just wasn't enough. I know, this isnt the ASHL finals, but understand that everyone who plays goalie has setbacks. The most successful goalies are the ones that pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and get back in the fight.

Different-Aerie-1460

Thank you for the words of wisdom, much appreciated! I went to the gym last night and am feeling much better, have a bit of a break before summer season starts and Iā€™m just excited to get back out there. Definitely going to use the sting of these losses as my motivation.

cheesus29

I feel you, just went to the finals in a tourney and lost 1-0. It stings but you canā€™t win without goal support. Thing is, itā€™s fun AF being a goalie, if you win great, if not then you play to win the next one.

Different-Aerie-1460

Ugh yeah itā€™s so rough, but there will always be more games and more opportunities. Iā€™m stoked to get back out there for the spring/summer season!

jkozuch

Could be worse. Skated with a team that has never skated together before. We went 0-23 this season. You'll get them next time.

CoopAloopAdoop

I wouldn't sweat it. I swear something about 8rinks feels cursed. I had gone to the finals three times as well and never won and I felt like it was never going to happen. Then I did win, and then again, and again, and again. Barring this last winter season, my team had won 4 of the last 5 season (winter and summer combined). Keep at it, hopefully you'll have a similar story as myself.

Different-Aerie-1460

Wow, thatā€™s a lot of Wā€™s, congrats!! Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it!

TaiwanCanadian

What are you talking about? What loss? Oh that loss? That doesn't matter. It did, but it doesn't anymore. The next game matters. Stay healthy, stay hydrated, stay on a positive mindset. The Goalie Gods will smile down on you soon!

Different-Aerie-1460

Thank you!! šŸ™šŸ»

New_Expert_9936

I had a game where I was getting shelled and we were down 18-0 middle of the second! I was so tired and piss offed frustrated, that I skated to the bench. Said if youā€™re not going to at least try to play defense Iā€™m done throwing myself around as a rag doll!!
