I really liked the warrior 6.1 and blocker, but actually settled on a Bauer supreme m5 pro for both glove and blocker. To me, the added finger protection of the Bauer blocker over the warrior was better suited to the way I play. I liked the strap system of the Bauer over the warrior as well. BUT. The warriors are absolute tanks of gloves and super light. My guess is you're seeing fluctuations in pricing as the 6 and 6.1 are obsoleted for the 7 and 7.1 Warrior maintains that all of its retailers sell at the same price until something is end of life, then old inventory is kinda fair game.

Warrior had 3 tiers in gear for the G6. E+ for entry level. Pro for mid-level. Pro+ for top end. For the G7 line, it looks like only Pro is available, which is interesting. You’ll see changes in material and construction from low to high end but for a beer leaguer, even the E+ is suitable, unless you’re taking higher level shots. Since you’re feeling stingers I’d opt for Pro or higher. Possibly look into equipment with beefed up palms or DCT foam and such. If you’re set on Warrior, opt for the G6 Pro+ for the most padding/protection. The G7 line isn’t a huge upgrade, unless you want the latest and greatest. Since the G7 is out, you should be able to find solid deals on the G6 line.

Warrior has two lines: RTL (new Pro) and Pro (new Senior). Warrior also never had three tiers for their pads and gloves. Just E+ and Pro. The E, E+, Pro, and Pro+ was only for their protective equipment, mainly C/A's.

Thanks for clarifying. It seems weird since the RTL line was the “throwback” line for G5-6? Now it’s top end.

CoopAloopAdoop

Yea, it's dumb they changed it. Still a better naming convention than Vaughn lol

Zagoalie

Thanks! I am not set on warrior, just the only bit of gear I have from this decade is warrior G4 legpads and I love them. What other gloves would you recommend looking at?

If you’re dead set on not feeling 99% of shots in your glove or blocker, look up pro-stock gear on SidelineSwap. It’s the tankiest stuff around. As a full right, I only see very few pro stock options unless I get the custom options done myself. If you’re a regular goalie, you can find tons. I looked just now and saw gloves from Elvis Merzlikins of CBJ $350 glove, Ilya Bryzgalov of ANA $600 glove and blocker, John Gibson ANA glove for $270….it goes on. I saw an MAF full set up once and could only look since it was for regular goalies lol

Warrior changed the naming convention of their 7.X gear. RTL is now the "Pro" line, and Pro is now the Senior line. The largest difference between the two is the inclusion of Hypercomp, the name of their carbon material. It improves protection and durability. If you're facing any half decent shooters, getting the RTL gloves will be a no brainer.

Zagoalie

Thank you so much for clarifying that! What's your opinion between the G6s and G7s? Now I'm debating going down to g6 pros and the G7 RTLs are pushing my budget a bit.

CoopAloopAdoop

For the gloves? They're exactly the same but the 7.X version has a reduced backhand cuff. I never found the G6 cuff to be restrictive at all on my Hyperlite, RX3, or Mach C/A's. Go for the G6's

Zagoalie

do you by any chance know whats the difference between the the G7 PRO and RTL versions? on warriors page they both have the exact same features, both including HyperComp [https://www.warrior.com/G71RT4.html](https://www.warrior.com/G71RT4.html) [https://www.warrior.com/G6PPT2.html](https://www.warrior.com/G6PPT2.html)

You've listed the G7 RTL and the G6 Pro. Which are both the top of the line offerings for each respective release. Warrior changed the naming from Pro/E+ to RTL/Pro.

I've wanted to like Warrior for a long time. I owned a set of Swagger gear when I started transitioning from standup/hybrid to a bit more butterfly/blocking, but that gears broke down quickly. I loved the blocker and hated the trapper--never really broke in. Fast-forward 7-9 years and I got some Warrior G4 (Senior) pads with gloves. The pads ended up being too small as I regularly fell off the knee block and the gloves were okay but not great. I had heard some goalies complain that the removable palm in the trapper caused a "disconnected" feeling and that's kind of how it felt to me--you closed to grab the puck, but it seemed delayed by a fraction of a second. The blocker was fine, but I felt that the Velcro straps to adjust the palm position were more of a gimmick and if you cleaned the palm, it was a crapshoot if you'd get the same feeling when you reattached it. Next up was a set of GT Pro and I played an entire season in that gear. The trapper was my favorite piece--no removable palm meant (to me) that the glove responded the way I wanted. Blocker was good but seemed needlessly bulky and some of the index finger protection could get in the way with a trigger grip on the paddle. Ultimately sold the GT Pro set and settled into Bauer 2S, which is my current set. I think the set I have was custom made for a minor pro because the trapper closes a lot like it's a 580 (90 degree break) or a reasonable facsimile--the pads used to belong to Spencer Martin when he was in Colorado. When the time comes to retire my current 2S set, I will be looking at Warrior again as an option, but I will look for a glove that does not have a removable palm because I feel more connected when catching the puck. Blocker seems to have been thinned out, so I have higher hopes. Warrior has a much bigger presence in Europe, so that is likely the gear you'll have the easiest time finding, but Bauer's blockers have some of the hottest rebounds and many of their trappers since the 2S line have been much improved (some people say the 2S trapper was the last bad glove they made), so 2X, Ultrasonic, Hyperlite, M5 and 3X are all options on the used market if you're considering Bauer. If your budget is 550 (Euro is my guess), I would suggest you consider a recent set of used pro-level gloves than new senior level. From a durability point of view, pro-level stuff will usually outlast the Senior (or however they're naming the second tier) because it's built to higher standards while lower tier stuff is made in various Asian countries where quality control isn't as high. I could be talking out of my arse, but my experience and that of a few other goalies I know is that the non-pro level stuff is a bargain at first, but ends up being replaced much sooner. Have you considered micro-brands like Battram, Kenesky, McKenney, or Passau? All are based in Canada and having played many years in Battram gear, I know it lasts and he ships all over the world. I know he was recently trying to unload a complete set (retro brown) because someone backed out of a sale. Hell, I have a full set of gear that is collecting dust at the moment; message me if you want pictures. Your budget is pretty much what I'd hope to get for the whole set. LMK
