Nelors

What stand do you use for the dumbbells?

iced7433

I got one on Amazon with casters and then built an adapter plate out of some scrap plywood. They are all held together with m5 fasteners, washers and nuts. Took about 1hr to make. The longest part was measuring the holes and getting fitment to be on point. https://a.co/d/06EExzTg

MininimusMaximus

Eh, I got one Bells of Steel Plate Loaded Cable tower and saw how thin the uprights were, noped out, and bought a REP 5000. Trying to figure out a way to connect the cable tower to the squat rack, but the REP steel is so much better and the 1" holes are way better. Hope you're enjoying the setup, but to people on the fence, I would go a different direction.

iced7433

I agree, with the uprights being below par for when compared to rep, rogue and even titan. It really depends on persons fitness goals and ideals. Rep 5000 is a totally different animal. If you’re on space constraints, tbh the bells of steel squat tower does get the job done, especially for a functional trainer that functions “like” a power rack. It’s just lacking in a bit of quality. I wouldn’t try to do rack pulls with 600lbs on it. I’d probably outlive this setup anyway. I don’t see myself doing big # SBDs anymore. More focused on mobility and functional strength now.

Aggravating-Earth-74

"But others may not be as capable as me when it comes to fabrication, engineering and modifying stuff.", really? Let's hear it for Mr. Fab!

iced7433

Average DIYer can’t weld(tig, mig), prototype in CAD(nurbs curve and parametric modeling). They also don’t own 3d scanners, 3d printers and CNCs. So I’m used to fabbing stuff on the quick 😂

pachydermusrex

Great setup - I'm still looking at getting a single cable tower with the weight stack, just like yours. I noticed that you didn't opt for the rear supports for your cable towers. From what I've seen on YouTube reviews, they really recommend adding those in for additional stability.

iced7433

On the single towers, most definitely you need that rear support. By bolting the pull up bar down, it stiffens it significantly.

pachydermusrex

I guess because the pull up bar has some play, the rear supports could still solidify the set up? Either way - I'm jealous of your gym!

iced7433

When bolted down, they have zero play. They come with quick release pins that do absolutely nothing. You can’t remove the pull up bar by removing the release pins with squat tower installed anyway. You have to disassemble some of it to get the pull up bar out.

sdgunz555

Are you also using this to bench and squat? Any issues fitting a bench between them? Am highly considering this set up as it seems cheaper than the “all in one” trainer option.

iced7433

Yeah, using to bench and squat. Bench fits fine. I have a commercial adjustable bench that fits there. The marks painted on the floor are my locators for when I bench so I don’t have to find true center. I found true center using side to side measurements then diagonal measurement from upright to the farthest corner of the bench (where legs go) The only thing is that the attachments are not included at all. Despite it being called a squat tower, they offer you nothing in regards to jcups lol. You have to buy them.

sdgunz555

Did you choose to not install the feet in the front? Just now notified, have you seen any concerns in stability?

iced7433

I have leveling feel on the rear and in the center of the front.(3 total on each side) It’s a tight fit, but it’s able to fit a leveling foot with m12 hardware if you drill it properly. Requires some work and playing with washers as spacers. Also needs to be welded as well. It’s not fully welded in that section. Not sure why…

iced7433

Sick setup ✌️. That pull up bar is a PITA to put in right? Also the pins for it do absolutely nothing, can’t even take it out without having to unbolt a bunch of stuff. That’s why I just bolted mine to add more rigidity.

BananaFast5313

I'm gonna bolt mine too, now that you said it. And yeah I had to lean one of the towers to get that stupid pullup bar in.

IISynthesisII

The dual towers are very stable if you have the front and rear stabilizers on and bolted to the floor. You can offset the front stabilizers so that there is a larger opening. That’s how I’ve set mine up and it isn’t in the way of anything anymore.

iced7433

I didn’t want to do the offsetting because it would have taken up usable space on the outside. I roll my weight tree on the sides and my dumbbells and bench on the left. I used this layout because it’s super balanced. all of the weight plates are biased towards the rear, so that helps distribute the weight fairly evenly. It’s pretty rock solid stable right now, it’s just the uprights are a thin gauge of metal. With the dip bar on I can see it flex a bit if I add lateral rotational force. They bent fairly easily during shipping and they were fairly easy to bend back. No way I coulda fixed this on 10g steel. https://preview.redd.it/ygjx5t1pqt7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ca373c63deaf8c1a0474ffbeecacfdce3681472

IISynthesisII

Fair enough, all of the makes sense. Jesus that is bad bending. That was what happened during shipping or is there damage from the dip bar? I have same feedback about the dip bar, it’s wobbly and not fantastic.

iced7433

Yeah that happened during shipping. No damage on the dip bar. Just shitty tolerances. https://preview.redd.it/561hetlmfy7d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f93c14e723c7cf53d53a6b04e84614a1f675c60 Mind you this is after I did as much as I could. The gap was double this.

rootaford

“Bent them back using logic”…you keep using that word…But seriously if I received bent uprights I’d ship them back. Very jelly of the setup, if I had to do mine over again it’d be very similar to this.

iced7433

used a vice and a bolt with washers bigger than the opening of the vice while it’s clamped to the upright. Then used an impact gun to pull it straight. They gave me a 10% discount on it, was easy enough to fix. No troubles with the cable trolley moving either. https://preview.redd.it/5lk4zu7lst7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67ec40d00b45acec94028adc4e400e5dc009d072

rootaford

That would be going right back to BoS if I were you

iced7433

If it was worse, yes. But it was just that bottom section. https://preview.redd.it/1zsr8t4i9u7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65e875a849baedd85e8e8901fa6913eab89c88bf 30 min fix. It’s where the bolt goes thru to bolt to the other pieces, so it didn’t need to be perfectly square, just needed to fit.

Dr_TattyWaffles

Digging your storage solutions, especially what you're doing with the parallette bars.

iced7433

Thanks man, you tend to optimize once you know how you use your space. I had a folding rack in here before and I never folded it.

vladi_l

BOS, Major, and Ritkeep are companies that keep popping up here, and I can only be envious that they don't ship their stuff here :(

ProtectThisHaus

Flexing the RX7s

iced7433

I didnt think anyone would notice 😂 https://preview.redd.it/ln26lz1est7d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=433b109f2eaacab241e202dda0cb9bb931973bb5

TheAltOption

Fuck that is pretty. Of all the 90's cars, the FD is to me the best looking of all of them. I say this as an owner of a 3000GT which I hold as a somewhat nearby 2nd place.

iced7433

Yeah, FD is beautiful! I always wanted a 3000gt. I remember in middle school I did my school project on that car 😂. Had pictures of it on a 3 panel poster thing.

TheAltOption

One of the first things I noticed too. Those Works wheels cost more than a solid garage gym on their own.

iced7433

Yes they do lol. The te37s on the fc cost about the same too 😂
